The vampire slowly managed to get back onto her tired feet, to follow him inside. She was a little warry, not exactally sure why it was he was being so nice to her; after seeing her hand burn like that, undoubtedly he knew she had been bitten.

"I'm...I'm Ruka, Ruka Minase,"She said quietly, feeling bad for having forgotten to introduce herself up to this point...Of course, after, she realized she probably shouldn't have given him her real name, considering her family was more than likely still trying to find her.

She paused a minute, and then made up her mind. "Um...Can I ask your names...?" Clearly, she was including Jesse in the comment too.

"Name's Horatio. That's Jesse," he gestured towards the dog now following them into the building. "The good doctor is Lucretia, but she's on a well-deserved lunch break right now." He was now opening and going into a side room, not bothering to flip on the lights.

"I had to go back here a couple months ago. Some idiot sliced his arm open and needed a transfusion; waste of good blood, if you ask me." He came back with a cardboard box. "Should have just drained him for future use if he was that keen on parting ways with it." It was unclear how much of this statement was a joke, and Horatio didn't elaborate as he opened the box, taking out a plastic bag of bright red liquid.

"Type O. Not much you can do with it. Take it." He handed it to Ruka, who took it uncertainly. He returned the box to its place in the adjourning room, then pulled out his wallet and doled out some money, sticking it on Lucretia's desk.

She glanced from him, to the pouch only once, and then ripped off the top and started to drink it. Ruka was drinking suprisingly politely, considering how hungry she was. In only a moment, half the bag was gone.

As she got closer to emptying the packet, she could actually feel her eyes changing back to normal...clearly, she had waited too long between meals. Once every drop of blood had been emptied from it, she put the empty container into the trash can.

"Thank you, Horatio..."She said bowing slightly. She kind of looked around, making sure she was out of the sun, gently wiped her lips, and then moved her hood down so he could see her face. She smiled just a little, still wanting to keep from making him uncomfortable.

That was when she spotted the money on the desk. "Oh...you don't have to do that...I have some money..."She said, sounding a little embarrased. It wasn't a lie: she had taken some money from what her Sire generally left lying around their house, which happened to be quite a large amount. She figured she would need money for something or other along the line.

Horatio waved his hand, brushing off her protest. "It's a present," he said firmly. "You're a guest and some of us have not forgotten how," he paused for a moment as if suddenly changing what he was about to say, "to be polite to visitors.

"Now, I don't expect you want to wait in here, but I want to hear how you got here and how long you were thinking of staying. My shop is very close. I, however, need to get my lunch still. If you wouldn't mind walking over with me and then waiting there, we can talk and, if need be, make arrangements for your stay."

"...Thank you, again,"She said, bowing once more. She said that she wouldn't mind at all accompanying him, but he really didn't need to worry about where she would stay...She wasn't even sure if she had eneough time to stay yet.

"I've been moving a lot, so...I don't know how long I'll be staying in town..."She said, as she put her hood back up. As she got it just right so that the sun wouldn't hit her, she quietly added, "Besides...I don't think I'm entirely welcome here...." Ruka didn't want to cause trouble for anyone in the town, that much was for sure...

Horatio shrugged coldly as he locked the entrance to the building.

"Doesn't matter. If you want a place to stay for a few days or months, I can make some arrangements for you. How old are you?" he asked suddenly, glancing sideways at her, Jesse following cheerfully at their sides.

"Oh...Hm...Maybe...My thirties? Maybe more, maybe less..."She honestly couldn't really remember. She had lost track of the days around when she was first Sired, so she didn't even know if her birthday had passed before then or not...

It had been many, many years since she had celebrated her actual birthday, and since she had turned out to be such a dissappointment to them, her family never celebrated her 'other' birthday.

"Time starts to kind of...Not really matter after you've been bitten. The only thing that really matters is whether its day or night, and how long until the next eclipse or what not..."she sounded as though she were trying to explain something she only half remembered from a dream.

She honestly couldn't remember if she had been bitten 10 years ago, or 30...Time just blended together as a period when she couldn't go outside, and when she could.

"How about you?"She asked, hoping that wasn't too forward of her to ask.

Horatio gave a low bark of a laugh. "Not that age. I meant your real age. You can't be more than twenty, right? I'd expect to see your face in a highschool.

"I made thirty-seven this last May." They had reached his shop and he gestured for her to have a seat on the steps. "I'm just going to pick something up quickly. Forgive me for not letting you in. If the door's open, someone's going to come by wanting to purchase good from you. Jesse, come." The dog had been watching Ruka eagerly, clearly still holding out hope for another treat.

Jackson rolled his eyes very slightly and removed his cigarette, leaning it on the edge of his ashtray without extinguishing it. It was obvious that he would pick it up again once Lucretia left and was only taking it away from his mouth at all to end the conversation.

"That werewolf still outside?" He asked, leaning over the counter to look towards the door.

"Ah?" Lucretia looked up, snapped back from her spacing out. "Ah...yes... she is..." What was about Dee? It was starting to get on the doctor's nerves. She bit into the sandwich, barely tasting it as she chewed and swallowed. "I need to get back to the clinic, and send that vampire on her way." She stood up, leaving half the sandwich.
She swept out of the tavern, her labcoat flying white behind her. She brushed past Dee without even looking at her, but then stopped, in the middle of the street, and turned back to look at her.
"You know...the clinic...is free for anyone to stop by and visit..."
What the hell was she doing?! She felt like such a child all of a sudden.
Frightened more of herself than anything else, she rushed back to the clinic.

Horatio's dog was cute, and Dee had flashed it a smile as it had tracked back to sniff at her; no wonder it pelted off so quickly after her master. It quite amused Dee, though also made her a bit uncomfortable. She liked dogs, even though they seemed so small and fragile...

And then there was Lucretia. One hand's fingers drumming quickly on her thigh, Dee bit her lower lip hoping she could keep her cool and not... start to flip out or something, like some regular kid with a crush. Not just embarassing, but wouldn't do anything for the aura of authority she needed to have in this place. But then... Dee studied the Doctor as she stalked past, and came to the conclusion that while she might be a bit thin, she had really nice legs.

And at Lucretia's quick invite, Dee couldn't help the grin that spread all over her face and had to stop the happy, or maybe truimphant - what a stupid little vistory to feel good about - crow that slipped out in a suppressed giggle. Then Dee stood up, decided she could have beer later, and followed, slowly, after Lucretia.

Spooky drank her bottle slowly, and an amused smile twitched over her lips as Jackson was vaguely scolded for his smoking habit. She quirked an eyebrow and took out her own cigarettes as what was obviously Cascade's doctor left.
"Lucky I didn't had mine out yet, or otherwise I would have felt gulity, even though she would hardly scold a perfect stranger," Spooky chuckled and lit her choice of vice; she didn't drink anything other than hard cider, even though it tempted her sometimes... one dangerous and possibly debilitating drug was good enough, though.
"How much for the stable? I can give you that now and have a look at the rooms later."

Jackson gave her his smirk-grin and slid his own cigarette back into his mouth. "Ten for downpayment. Five for every night after that. Very reasonable. Never gets used."

"Oh! Happy birthday!"She said eagerly when Horatio told her how old he was. Ruka always liked making other people happy on their birthday...of course, this one was rather belated, but she didn't mind too much. "I think...I was about 23 when I was bitten...I sort of lost track of the time, so my birthday might have passed or not..."the vampire added, to answer his question.

"I don't mind waiting at all,"She said, now seeming much more stable than she had when she sat on the Clinic steps. She didn't need to lean against anything to stay up, either.

After the tiniest of pauses, she placed another treat on the ground next to Jesse. She couldn't help it: she had a weak spot for dogs. Then she kind of began to wonder if it was alright to be giving his dog treats without first asking. "Um....is this okay?"She asked, not wanting him to be angry with her.

"Fine with me," Horatio said, starting to head back to the bar. "Wait for me here." He paused for a moment, then added, "Jesse, stay."

The dog could take care of herself, if anything were to happen.

In a minute's time, he was entering the bar once more, leaning lightly on the counter opposite Jackson. "Lucrezia left already?" The barkeep nodded and Horatio sat down. "Give me what she had, but twice the size and not on a plate. I'm just picking up food today." He placed some money down.

Jackson gave him a suspicious state. "Why?"

"I'm in the middle of something. Don't want to get shavings all over your floor. Keeping your paper a little longer, too."

Jackson seemed to accept this as a legitimate response from the older man, and he busied himself with the ingredients for a (double decker, this time) turkey sandwich. He finished quickly and handed it over, only then noticing something different.

"Hey. Where's the dog?"

"Eating."

Horatio nodded to both people still in the bar and left, taking his food with him.

Ruka waited on the steps, carefully leaning so that her shadow cast over Jesse, and she could scratch the dog behind the ears. When she saw Horatio comming back, she looked up and said "I think I've made a friend."

She sat back, giving Jesse one more pat between the ears as she did so. The dog was so fuzzy, she could barely help herself.

"What did you get for lunch...?"she asked, hoping she wasn't prying or asking too many questions. She liked to know that people who's diet was more or less still solid still enjoyed their food...Sometimes she would eat actual food, but most of the time, it was just the spare drop or two of blood.

"Turkey sandwich." Horatio unlocked the door to his store and let all three of them inside, flipping open the paper to its front page as he did so. Slowly glancing over it, he took a bite of his sandwich and sat down behind his counter, Jesse following him.

He glanced up. "Have a seat."
