Hands around the cabbage's base, Iijima rolled back on his heels and pulled. Most of the plant came loose from the ground. "That's okay!" he grunted out, trying to disconnect the little fibrous strands of root down at the bottom. With a final tug, the cabbage was free, and Iijima gave a small exclaimation of happy accomplishment. "I don't mind." He moved the giant ball of leaves over to the waiting pot and dropped it in, standing up.
Iijima was completely covered in dirt from chest to toe. Grinning, he brushed his hands together ineffectually and wiped his forehead, smearing a line of dirt across his brow. He proudly proclaimed, "There we go!"

She smiled and applauded his show of strength, then scrabbled up, bringing the pot full of cabbage with her. "Thank you so much," Lixxie said cheerfully, adjusting the grip on the pot to make sure she didn't drop it. That would be Very Bad. Looking down at the cabbage, she scrutinized it for flaws or brown spots or something. It was just habit, from shopping in the produce section of the local grocery store.

"That's it then," said iijima, almost resignedly. He stuck out his hand towards Lixxie, then noticed all the dirt on his fingers and drew the hand back with a chuckle. "Be sure to come back if you have any questions."

She nodded firmly. "I will!" If only to talk to Iijima again. He seemed like great fun, when she wasn't offending him. "Thank you for your help," and saving me from that crazy kid at the front desk. As much as she'd like to call Ariko a crazy kid, Lixxie wanted to be polite.

Iijima settled on a smile and a wave, since a handshake was out of the question. "It was a pleasure meeting you. Take care of yourself, and the cabbage."

"You too!" She smiled and sort of waved back. If she moved one arm very far, she was afraid she'd drop the pot. Lixxie turned and quickly made to leave- hopefully before Ariko returned to the front desk. Really, she could do the paperwork later. Really.

Iijima smiled as he watched Lixxie leave. She would be a great guardian for that child, he was sure of it. As for himself... "Well"" he said, looking down at the hole where once a cabbage had been. With any luck, in a few weeks time it would be home to a cabbage again. In the meantime, he had work to do. He spared a moment to consider the dirt under his nails. Ariko would be furious for sure. Grinning, Iijima set about filling the hole in the Patch.
