Ahote smiled, realizing that her studder had ceased. He looked at her and took in the true happiness on her face and in her eyes.
"You don't need to thank me, Flower. All I can ask for is your friendship. And I'll be here as a friend to you whenever you need me."
He smiled again, watching as the tears dried from her eyes, and enjoyed the finally happy look on her face. Flower was going to be ok. And that made him feel great, knowing that he had helped somebody feel at ease after suffering for so long. It was a completely selfless feeling, and there was no other motivation behind his kindness other than wanting to see Flower happy.

A grin slipped across her face and her eyes danced with joy. "And likewise, if you ever need anything." She told him bumping her shoulder into his playfully. She sighed contentidly, for the first time in her life feeling like she belonged amongst her species and not just Usdia's, all equine kind.
The plucky little stallion had opened a many door and a whole new world to her. Now that she knew friendship was possible, she was determined to make it happen. She thought back to what males might like to do, and dawned a slightly pensive look and it came to her. "Wanna race?" She asked with a smirk, glancing a rather large, apple blossom, laden tree.

Ahote smiled back at Flower. He was surprised as she bumped her shoulder into his. That must have been a big step for her, seeing as she got so tense with physical contact. When asked if he wanted to race, he jumped up, quite excited.
"Yes! I love racing! I had a race the other day with this big-sized Soquili named Kitsune, and I beat him! Even though his legs were longer, I still beat him! Where do you want to race to?"
Ahote was back to his usual giddy self, searching for fun everywhere, eager for a challenge.

She chuckled as he seemed to get very excited at the prospect of a race. "Wow, you beat a Soquili?" She asked, unsure if he was just blowing steam or not. Either way she'd find out soon enough. The mare tossed her legs a bit to try and get up. She was on her feet quickly and looked to him. "I was thinking to that apple tree and back..." She told him. "Unless of course you have another idea." She told him, a smile playing at her lips.

Ahote smiled, looking at the apple tree in the distance. It seemed a decent distance, not too short, but not so long that it would tire him out.
"Ok, sounds good. Do you want a head start?" he asked teasingly.
He stretched his legs, they needed it after lying on the ground for so long. He reared back on his hind legs and pawed at the air, grinning as he landed his front feet back on the ground.
"You ready?"

Flower stretched just a little bit, to loosen her joints. She looked to him and scoffed in mock indignation. "S'cause I'm a mare isn't it?" She asked playfully. "No, I don't want a head start...we'll do this fairly." She told him as she readied herself.
"I was born ready! Count of three all right?" She asked assuming that'd make it even.

Ahote nodded and stood in a ready position, looking sideways at Flower. He looked to the apple tree before he started the count.
"1....2....3!"
With that, he took off, his feet tearing at the ground. He tossed up chunks of dirt and grass as he ran, flying towards the apple tree. He looked back, trying to see where Flower was. He lost his balance a little and began to swerve, so he set his eyes forward again, watching directly in front of him.

Flower began to run at a break neck speed. She lowered her head to give her body a more streamlined shape. Her mane and tail flower behind her like black and white streamers. She glanced to him, hardly moving her head to see where he was.
A-ha! He was a little ahead of her. She'd soon fix that. The tree came ever closer, her breath began to become heavy and somewhat laboured but she didn't stop, her hooves making ruts in the grass as she leaned to the left and turned around the three and headed back towards the stream.

He had gotten himself distracted, and he cursed himself for it now. At the tree, Flower pulled ahead of him, and flew around the tree. He stumbled a little bit, but he caught himself before falling. He raced around the tree but still trailed Flower as she reached the stream. He caught up with her at the finish line.
"Jeeze, you're fast!"
His breaths were a little heavy, and he grinned at Flower. He hadn't expected that much out of her. He had really been trying his hardest, but she still beat him.

Flower took a few long drinks of water and laughed softly, her eyes bright. "Yeah...you gave me a good...run though." She said as she tried to catch her breath.
In truth, she had to be fast. Otherwise her family would have found her on the night she escaped. But that was in the past now, and in the present she had a new friend and had just one a race.
The mare looked to him. "You almost beat me a few times though." She added. "Not too shabby yourself mate." She added with a warm smile.

Ahote took a few sips of the water himself, smiling at Flower between gulps. He noticed that she was quite out of breath herself, so perhaps she had been trying really hard.
He raised his head from the stream and shook his scruffy mane out of his face.
"I did almost have you. But you got me around that tree. Couldn't catch up after that!"
He smiled and looked at the sky. They had been out there for a fairly long time. It was almost time for the sun to set, and the air was cooling.
"Where do you live, Flower? I'll walk you home."

Flower smiled softly. He certainly was playing the part of a gentleman. Perhaps he wasn't as child-like as she had first pegged him out to be. It was certainly a nice suprise.
"Oh, I live back towards the forest in a clearing." She told him as she nodded her head to her left. "You really don't have to walk me home...unless of course you'd like too." She added. No, the more she thought about the more charming the hyper little stallion seemed. The mare definately thought he was someone worth knowing. Coyly she turned and began to walk, slowly, towards the forest, her tail flicking slightly.

Ahote smiled and followed Flower, trotting to catch up with her.
"I don't mind. And I don't want anything to happen to you. Its getting dark, and who knows what could happen?"
He smiled, and nudged Flower with his shoulder as he walked beside her. They headed towards the forest, the sunset behind them painting the sky pink, orange, and blue.

Flower smiled hapilly but when he mentioned something happening to her it struck a chord. Her left ear twitched slightly, a soft, bland expression slipped across her face. Did he mean she couldn't take care of herself? Was he trying to baby her after what she had told him? No, she'd give him the benefit of the doubt.
"Thanks for caring Ahote." She said gently, her eyes turning from him to the sunset as she walked. "It's gorgeous isn't it?" She breathed. "It's so big but it's nothing compared to the night." She added.

Ahote noticed that Flower paused before speaking again. He thought for a moment that he might have offended her by saying he didn't want anything to happen to her...perhaps suggesting that she couldn't take care of herself. But the hesitation was short, so he didn't ask about it. He nodded, watching the sunset as well.
"It is beautiful. Its one of my most favourite things to watch. Its always so pretty."
The colours began to fade as they made their way to the forrest. The light was fading on the land, and all the daytime creatures of the world would soon be asleep.
