Wouldn't it be easier if we didn't have a list of betas people could go to? I mean we do have a master list already. It would be less work for you if the requirements were to simply find a beta, and then we'd verify that the beta actually did the work or something like that.
Probably we can set up and raise enough gold for the prizes for now. Oh you know what, I have quite a few mules that aren't doing anything. We could maybe designate one or make a new one specifically for this.

We have a list, yeah...but it's old. When I was looking for a beta for my FFVII fanfic, I sent off PMs to a tonne of folks. A lot didn't reply. Those that did...it took at least a week. I've only heard from one since then. So the point of having the list would be confirmation that these people are -active-, and still willing to beta original fic short stories. I know it'd be less work for me, but...well, less work isn't necessarily the point.
Hmm, a mule. I've never really understood the point of mules - but maybe that's because I come from MMORPGS, where 'mules' that do something to benefit the main character are cause to get you IP-banned. Or...something. Eh. But I guess I can see why a mule would be good in this case...
(I have 19k now! Woohoo for slots.)

I have the same problem. I only have one beta at the moment, and have yet to hear a reply. So perhaps we could send PMs to everyone on the beta list, asking them if they are active.
A mule would be useful because all the judges could know the password, and they could edit something in the post if need be (for example, updating the lists of betas, gammas, donators, etc.).
I have 7k and a sealed envolope for July 2007 I can sell. Thats about 15k, at the least.

Woot! Chibi pwns you all. I have 130k total in gold for this account with about 10k for my other ones collectively.
Yeah, the list is old, and some people may be too busy to beta. That's a shame. We might have to periodically go through the list to see if the betas are active. It's going to be time consuming.
What Kaarii said. A mule would be good for not only editing each others works, but people can PM the mule so the judges won't be swamped with PMs. Not to mention, it would be simple for the contestants to send their entries to one person.

I'm not asking you to donate all your gold sweatdrop I'm willing to, but that's mostly because I've got nothing else to do with it, as I don't really see the point in spending so much effort to dress up my avatar (okay. Well, I do see the point, but it's not a task I wish to tackle...)
Still, donations are always wonderful!
Is it allowed for a mule to be shared between people? I can't see why it couldn't be (and I couldn't find anything in a quick search on the topic), but, uh...anyone know for sure?
Yeah, I was thinking I'd just send out a mass of PMs. Not sure that we shouldn't wait a bit for people to be back from vacation, though. I guess it wouldn't make too much difference...

Not planning on donating all of my gold anyways. XD Just showing that I can donate gold for the contest. Well, I have enough clothes to dress up my avatar that I'm going after pure gold so I don't have to try and play catch up with the prices.
Yes. An online friend and I share a mule for an art shop. I've seen threads where people share a mule except it's uncommon, but still out there.
Maybe create a template so you don't have to keep typing it.

I would be quite willing to judge in the fanfiction contest whenever it gets off the ground; I'm a little less sure of my abilities with original fiction, but I could give it a shot.
I'm limited as far as when I can get things done, because my only concrete, for-sure internet time is a four-hour chunk every Saturday night, but that's not going to change for the foreseeable future since it's related to my job and not school; hopefully it will work well enough.
Also, I can spare up to 10k right now for the contest. ^^

People may have been available back then, but RL now prevents them from either writing or editing. We really need to make sure the list is of active participants so anyone searching doesn't become frustrated.

And, no, those folks aren't all inactive...I only sent out these messages a few hours ago, so most haven't had time to reply.
It's amazing how few betas are on the list, though, compared to the number of people who're in the guild.

Ah. Mod stuff. Sofu and I were discussing the whole clean up process. We were going to split the work into three evenly and assign each section to one person. The template makes it easier for us so we don't have to type the message several times.
That's good. I thought out of all of them, only one was active. *pokes* flight815kitsune is still active and looking for gammas. XD I should know since she's my beta. *huggles FK*
Yeah. I'm guessing they forget about joining or something. Maybe they come to look on the list or it looks good on their profile. *shrugs*

Uhh...sorry if you wanted to do it yourselves. Or if you didn't want me to do it. Sometimes I ask, and, uh, sometimes I just go ahead and do things. *shuffle*

EDIT: Oh, what the hey. I've gone and added the fanfic folks. There were only four of them to PM, anyway, as I know the fifth is active (she just finished up doing a supreme job of beta'ing that FFVII fic of mine. Woo!)
