Wyrsa snorted. "My gift to you," she said, only half sarcastic.

This night was certainly becoming more interesting and more complicated all the time.

"D'awwww..." Tloc crooned as he lifted his head. Some snake meat strung from his lips. "That is so kind of you! And I don't have anything else in return." The stallion thought, was he -in a sense- now indebted to this mare? He hoped not.

The mare considered this. Was he indebted to her? She'd been sarcastic about the gift part...but what if he had taken that seriously? Could she impose upon him? And how?

"Well," she drawled, "the shortest way out of this desert would be nice." If he didn't tell her, well, she'd have to try and trace her own footsteps, and hopefully it'd be before the heat of the day came. If he did though...it could only help.

Tloc eyed the mare, maybe she was taking this seriously. Well, he wouldn't have /that/ held over him at a later date. He sneered and his eyes glinted, "Fine.... are you ready now? This is the last oasis before we get out of the desert and enter the mountains to the southwest."

Wyrsa cast a final glance around the oasis. "By all means, lead the way." She paced over towards Tloc, careful to leave the stallion his space.

Tloc finished off his snake-meal patiently. When he felt ready, he went to the small opening for water and quench the little thirst he had. He wouldn't let this mare push him... he'd go when he was ready.

Finished, Tloc turned towards the mountains and walked. "This way..."

As they left the oasis, he let the flames at his hooves increase the light it gave off... to let them see if anything dangerous crossed their path. The moon only gave off so much light.

Wyrsa followed suit with a drink. She was surprised to see his flaming hooves give off even more light (how bright did the things get?) but tried to not let her surprise show. The mare was careful as she followed Tloc, her gaze constantly roaming all around and occassionally behind.

She wasn't sure if more light was a good thing. It made it difficult to differentiate between the dark shadows in the distance.

Tlocatl lead the way through the desert. He was almost corteous, showing Wyrsa where not to step, what kind of places to avoid, etc etc. He spoke only in reference to the dangers... not offering small talk or commentaries. It was obvious that he was doing a job, and not incredibly pleased with it... for Tloc hated to be in this 'debt' that he owed.

Finally, they reached the point where the desert met with the river and the mountains. It was still dark, and now the high rocks blocked away some of the light the cosmos offered.

"Here we are, Wyrsa... and here is where I depart." There was an edge to his voice. When Tloc returned to the teepee where the human wouldn't keep her services away from he, he would definately be leaving this out to any that asked about his night.

With that, the kalona took to the sky and headed off.

Wyrsa had followed Tloc's lead diligently, storing every bit of information away against future need. The stallion knew so much more than she about the desert, so much that she would need to know if she chose to return here. (And she might. She did enjoy the quiet and solace she'd found out here.)

But she certainly wasn't surprised by the Kalona's abrupt departure. She'd been expecting it for...for a while now, and had been stunned to have him lead her all the way out. Perhaps there was some honor among the Kalona? She'd have to meet more to find out.

And pray that they were all as inclined to spar words over hooves.

With that melancholy thought, the Soquili headed off towards the forest as the grey light of predawn touched the sky above her.
