"No sir. I'm...I'm sorry that I looked femine to you. But..."
Irene hated himself for unable to control his emotions. He felt an urge to punch the other man in the face. What kind person was he? Had he no shame? He should have never gotten himself involved in this incident. Irene damned himself for not looking at where he was walking in the first place.
So with a clear voice he continued.
"I, sir, am a man. And if you did not know the traditional customs of dancing, it requires a male and a female. Two males...it just doesn't work that way."
He felt a harshly obvious burn on his face, mostly from the supressed rage and embarrassment. Why did he have to blush so obviously? Irene wanted to leave this place, just to get himself out of this hold that he had dug up. He wished the other man could just let him go, or at least, stop trying to make him his dance partner.

Suddenly, Kyuubi's mischievous aura vanished. Anyone who was in-tune with others emotions would be backing up. The fox's eyes narrowed, and he stared down at Irene, suddenly dead-serious.
"Two males just don't work, huh? Do you have something against gays?" Kyuubi growled, bristling with righteous fury. In his lifetime, he'd known many gay men. Kyuubi, himself, was bisexual. He did not tolerate anyone who had anything against those of homosexual orientation.

Crystal could hear Irene's voice clearly, followed by the other's angry retort. This was getting bad. She stopped dancing suddenly, turning to face the two, ready to move if one of them started anything. The woman almost blamed herself for this but...it seemed the fox-man wasn't as interested in dancing with women as he was with Irene. At any other time, she would have laughed at the thought, but right now her date was fractions away from getting in a fight with the larger man.
"Barbaric," she murmured to the women, frowning. This is why she didn't much care for the social teachings of the higher classes; the arrogance and ignorance left a bad taste in her mouth. She was hoping Irene would walk away, but she knew he was a creature of pride. This story wasn't heading for a happy ending.

Gays....?
Irene had vaguely heard about this "gay" word that the other was talking about. His mother hated it, and surely enough, he himself did not think so happily about it either. But he had never imagined that he'd encounter such a man, who would care less about the gender of his counterpart. It was insane! And from a science perspective, it certainly defied the laws of nature.
Irene didn't want to offend anyone, so he shook his head, and forced a smile on his face. "No, sir. I have nothing against homosexuality. However, me myself do not have a....homosexual or bisexual orientation. I hope that, in return of my respect to you, you will respect me back my preferences."
Sounded logical enough. The young man could only hope that the other had enough sense to not invoke a fight in the middle of a formal ball.

She frowned at the two arguing males. This was turning bad quickly, and a scene just because of a bit of fun... that just wasn’t right. She felt bad, after all she had as much been a part of this as Crystal and May. “Maybe we should go interject...”

"Liar," Kyuubi growled. As soon as Irene had finished his sentance, Kyuubi's fist collided with the man's face. He could sense how the man felt. To Kyuubi, being with a man felt more natural than any woman could make him feel. Hell, he preferred men over women, but he wouldn't complain if he was getting some companionship.
In his state, he could feel the rage coiling darkly in his stomach. Right now, nothing felt more satisfying than putting this stuck-up kid in his rightful place.

Now it was the time to wish that he had a sword with him.
Irene's hands insticntively covered his face when the fist came. It made a loud, crahsing noise as the two colided. The young man hissed in pain, and the force shoved him backward, pushing him off balance. His body then came in touch with the drink table that happened to be located behind him. It shook, knocking several chaimpagns and wines over, shattering their glasses and spilling out the liquid of various colors. Some of them spashed onto Irene, for he felt fluid coolness that came in touch with his skin when they seeped though the fine linens of his cloths. Lifting his hand off of his face he felt the bones in his hand vibrate. He moved it slowly, and, after making sure that no bones were broken, Irene looked up at the other, full of rage, which this time he did not bother to hide.
He's had enough of this...this...savage.
Panting, and without a fitting weapon in his hand, he could not do anything as to hurt the other physically, despite how much he had wanted to. So instead he hissed, full of sacrasm.
"sir, I did not know that GAYs are so...rude in their manners. Perhaps this is why they were rejected by the mass society?"

Crystal moved swiftly to Irene, doing the only thing she could think of: she threw her arms around him, effectively putting her body between the two men. "This is madness!" she cried, looking over her shoulder to the fox-man. "Please, Lords, I beg of you...stop this!" She didn't care about the liquid she could feel seeping through her gloves; she held onto the man tightly so that he would not throw her off.
There was no use reasoning with the larger man, as he had heard words that Irene had not said. Instead, she pressed her masked cheek against the side of her date's head, whispering in his ear, "Please, my Lord...please. Stay with me and do not let him have the satisfaction of hurting you further." Crystal was trying to get between two very large egos; she felt that Irene was rational enough to hear her, but she did not know if he would listen. Her dark eyes turned momentarily to the other women, hoping they wouldn't get involved. She would take the consequences of getting between the two.

The sudden embrace from Crystal was out of his prediction. Irene had suspected another blow from the man, but the girl had sufficiently interfered. So he let the girl embrace him, feeling a little satisfied that at least the girl had came, however delayed her reaction was. Ensurring the lady that he was safe was the priority, so he shook his head and gave Crystal a gentle and charming smile.
"I had no intention to hurt, or getting hurt in the first place. Please do not fret, my lady." He gave quickly glanced at the man to make sure that he was not taking advantage of this moment to hurt him further, and carefully put a hand on the girl's back, and patted her softly.
"I apologize, my lady, for my rudeness. I am sorry that I have offended this gentleman right here...and caused such an unpleasant scene that made you worry. Is there any way I can repay my debt to you? Would a humble kiss on your lovely cheek work?"

"I didn't know that all of the high-society constantly had sticks shoved up their pompous asses!" Kyuubi retorted, readying himself for another punch to the kid. But then Crystal jumped in front of him. He cursed, snarling at Irene from behind Crystal. "Consider yourself lucky, a*****e. It just so happens that it's my policy not to harm women, unless they can fight for themselves."
That said, the Kitsune waltzed off, looking for Kyoko. Damnit, he'd had enough of these high-society pussies. He needed someone he could relate to.

Sommer watched from her spot not far away from the fight. She had followed Crystal there with the intention of stepping in between if she couldn’t stop the fight on her own. But it seemed the fox had had enough of this and marched off.
Sommer’s gaze turned to Crystal and her companion, who seemed to be okay. Well thank god for small favors.

Crystal wanted to scream and hit him herself, after seeing his nonchalant smile and sudden revert to being a gentleman. However, she was his date and should act as proper as he. Men were so frustrating! "You owe me no boon," she replied calmly, a slight tremor running just under skin at how close he had come to being beaten to a pulp, "and my concern is with you and you alone."
She slowly released him, dismissing her wet gloves for the time being. Crystal glanced at the retreating fox-man, making a mental note to find him later and talk to him like a normal human being. She did not want her date to be thought of so ill. She glanced over to Sommer, giving the all-suffering smile of one who had to do many things for the service of another. "A rain check on that dance, if you please," she chuckled. Turning her stormy gaze back to Irene, she gently took his arm, trying to lead him away from the mess. "Shall we get you cleaned up, my Lord?"

"I am deeply touched by your graciousness, my lady." Irene noded, ignoring the fact that the girl was probably not very pleased with his sudden change of demeanor. He'd cheer her up later...for now, he had to make a suitable impression of himself to the public.
"This...was none other than a mere misunderstanding on our part. I should apologize to that gentleman later when I see him again." He said the words intentionally loud, so the bystanders could hear. He then turned bacl to Cyrstal, and gave her a most mischevious smile. "Do I deserve the honor to be served by you, my lady?"

Crystal gave Irene a dazzling smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. She knew very well that this was for the sake of his reputation, and she did not wish to tarnish it with beating him upside the head. "Of course, my Lord. A simple misunderstanding," she echoed, just in case those near by decided to turn a deaf ear.
Her eyes darkened as she looked at her date, unable to stop the look from seeping through her mask. He wasn't...he couldn't be...no, he was just flirting. She was still grinning, despite her mistrusting eyes, saying brightly, "If it pleases you, my Lord." If he wanted to compromise her time, it wouldn't be difficult; she had to play the game for his sake, and if he wanted to mix the game with his true intentions, she would have to abide by them. She curled her arm tighter with his, speaking so that only he could hear, "Mayhaps, and then perhaps not, but I'm willing to be kind." Her free hand touched the spot on his face where he was hit, her sharp gaze softening just a touch.

That was the last time Kyoko drank that much punch at once. Not only had she gotten lost on her way to the bathroom, she'd gotten lost on her way back. And still no Kyuubi in sight! The normally cheery girl was starting to feel a bit...out of sorts. She'd never done very well in 'high society'. Why she had decided to come to this, she had no idea...Oh yeah. Now she remembered. Her father had insisted she try and make some acquaintances in higher places, especially if she was going into the world of dance after high school. She fiddled with the green pet tag of her dog collar, trying to do the calming breathes she normally did before a recital.
And then she spotted him. With a squeal of delight, she ran over to Kyuubi and clung to him. "Kyuubi-kun! I thought I'd never find you!"
