Now Yanvir looked stricken. That was what he had wanted, right? But no! Wrong timing! What if he was scary when he wasn't trying to be? That would be bad! "No!" he yelped, diving after her and trying to grab the littler feien.

Berra protested a moment as he grabbed at her, shying away and scooting backward, before realizing he didn't sound angry, moreso, he sounded upset.
Bewildered, she stopped struggling and looked up at him, ears perking.

"That not fair!" stammered Yanvir as he finally got ahold of her, claws digging into her arms. He gave her a bit of a shake. "You scream only when Yanvir say scream! Yanvir is not SCARY!" And with that said, he pushed her away and went scurrying back behind the hippo.

Berra winced as he grabbed her, gritting her teeth against another cry as his claws pressed into her flesh. When he pushed her, she offered no resistance and fell briefly on her back, wings tangling about her.
She laid there for a long moment, trying to sort out what exactly had just happened before sitting up again. Examining her arms, she found that the skin had already begun to redden in the places his claws had dug in, though somehow he'd managed not to draw blood. Maybe if she was lucky, they wouldn't bruise either.
For a moment, she thought he'd gone, and then, looking a bit closer, spotted the golden tuft of one of his tails just barely peeping out from behind the hippo. Getting up, she approached again, stopping several paces from the plushie.
"I'm sorry, Yanvir." she said worriedly, feeling bad about having saddened him. Granted, she couldn't exactly help her kneejerk reaction to his yelling and flailing, but she hadn't meant to make him think he was some sort of monster. "I didn't mean to upset you..."

"That not FAIR!" came the clearly distressed voice. "Yanvir is no monster! Yanvir is great and mighty and no monster." Looking around the purple plushie revealed him to be practically curled up into a ball, knees tucked up under his chin, claws fiercely gripping his legs.
"Council LIES," he continued, "about Yanvir. All lies! Because they is jealous that Yanvir is BEST and GREATEST of all feien, EVER! They just think dumb things, but now all dead! Ha ha ha!" Which might have sounded slightly more menacing were not the last words choked out.

Kookaberra hesitated as she listened to his upset tirade before plucking up enough nerve to pad around to the other side of the plushie to find him in his current state. Biting her lip, feeling even worse, she knelt a short distance away from him, enough that she was near enough to speak softly, but out of immediate grabbing distance should his mood suddenly shift again.
Not that it mattered much, she thought with a bit of worry. With as quickly as he moved, she could be on the other side of the room and he could grab her before she had time to react.
"You're not a monster." she agreed softly. "That's awful that they would lie about you."
Honestly, she had no idea what had gone on...and she felt if she thought on it too heavily right now, she might become quite terrified of just what Yanvir was, or had been, capable of doing. Had HE been responsible for the deaths he'd mentioned?
Best not to think of it right now, she decided. At the moment, she just wanted to calm him if he'd let her.

With a shout of "BOO!" Yanvir whipped about and jumped towards her, claws extended, teeth bared, eyes crossed, and tongue lolling.

Apparantly she'd been too quick to let her guard down and nearly tumbled over the edge of the shelf with a loud yell of surprise. Catching herself, she panted, hair slightly frazzled, looking a bit like a kitten that had just climbed the curtains to escape the family dog.

Hysterical laughter greeted her as Yanvir went rolling head over heels into the air. "Ahaha! See you-- ha ha! Then Yanvir-- ha ha HA!" He drifted around randomly in the air as he convulsed with mirth, tears squeezing out of the corners of his eyes.

Trying to compose herself again, Berra's immediate instinct to feel reproachful toward him for having played on her sympathies receded almost as quickly as it surfaced. Yanvir couldn't help how he was, she told herself, and she'd much rather he was laughing than crying. It wasn't as though anyone chose to be crazy
....did they?
Managing some fractured laughter along with his own as the adrenaline coursing through her began to lessen, she got to her feet again. "Got me that time..." she smiled faintly, though now was a little wary as she wondered how many more screams he hoped to get out of her before this was all said and done.

That seemed to signal the end of it. "Okay, okay, you listening to me now. There weapon over in hilltop, top of hill, under ground, okay? Hill is in valley of mountain, perfect valley, all round, and in middle is hill. No trees on hill, which kinda creepy, but perfect hill in perfect circle of mountain. Then you dig in middle and find weapon, yes? It like fork for stab. Hafta dig long time. But that okay. Oh! And the circle-mountains are in big mountain chain south of here."
Yanvir paused a moment, almost but not quite giving Berra the chance to speak, then quickly prattled on, "except here not here any more! It south of old here, you know? Big mountains! Great place for Yanvir rule. Yanvir rule all see, so Yanvir live on big mountains! But circle-mountains south of Yanvir rule, where Yanvir not see, maybe seven day by wing. Have fun!" The little fairy gave an enthusiastic wave goodbye.

Berra's interest had been piqued immediately after she'd realized he'd begun to give her directions and tried desperately to remember all of what he'd said.
Yanvir's instructions were muddled, but she was fairly sure she could remember them....not to mention have a few days to puzzle them out and see if she couldn't make them more clear-cut. She badly wanted to get them all out on paper before they were forgotten and was relieved when he released her with a wave goodbye when he had finished speaking.
"Thank you, Yanvir! I'll do my best!" she said sincerely, giving him a respectful curtsy with her wingtips before turning and fluttering across the room to the mouth of the tunnel, landing on the ledge. "Goodbye! Take care!" she called to him, returning his wave, before disappearing from view to gratefully head back home.
All the while, she hoped she hadn't been missed yet.

Yanvir stood a moment, frozen in his waving goodbye, and then suddenly realized he'd been had. Or at least, he thought he had been had. No, wait, all this thinking made his head spin. He looked up at the ceiling once, frowned, and went to forage for some candy. Quote: Your task: Find the circular valley with the bare hill in the middle and dig! If you're lucky, you'll find the "stabbing fork."
