Dee was doing fine, all things considered, and didn't think she was being abused or ignored. She was simply confused and wishing she could do more for Jordan. "I won't say a thing, Jordan... but thank you for trusting someone you just met." She puts away her little kit and loops her bag around her shoulder. "I'm afraid I don't have much else to offer, in the way of information or suggestions," she sighs. "As you've probably guessed, I haven't been here too long."

He nodded towards Dee. "You've been helpful and I hope that you'll have more pleasant experiences." Jordan extended his paw to the woman who’d just tended to his wounds. It wasn’t easy being the new person, nor having to witness some of the acts that transpire on the island. “I’m not usually so high-strung. I apologize for the scene I’ve caused here.”
However, he didn’t appreciate the questions Awen was asking. Not one bit. Jordan was naïve, but not stupid. He knew she was friends with Richard and he delighted in terrorizing him at every moment he got. He shrugged his shoulders at her interrogation. Jordan didn’t like her association with the evil man. He was an upstart and a corrupting influence. “I’m not perfect and I’ve made some mistakes, but we all have.” He shot a suspicious look. If she was fishing for answers to give that miserable old codger, she’d have to try much, much harder.
Jordan wasn’t interested in playing twenty questions and he stood once he was sure Dee had finished. “This isn’t the time, nor the place to have this conversation.” He tried to blow it off for now, but he was certain, if Awen was anything like Richard, she’d harp him over and over again for the answers. “We shouldn’t stick around here much longer anyways.” Jordan sniffed around for the way that he’d come and began to backtrack his path, glancing backwards, giving his black nose a tap. “This way.”

Awen sighed heavily and shook her head. That was definately not the same islander she'd met only a few months ago. If the manta didn't know any better she'd say he was turning into a mule. She moved closer to him and leaned in slightly as he started forward. "Fine Jordan but seriously. I'm your friend, and if you don't trust me enough to say when we get a chance alone I'm really going to worry. I care about you hun, I want to know why you're risking your life."
The manta honestly and sincerely wasn't planning on telling Richard. Even though his note had been on her mind she wasn't about to abuse the trust of her friend like that. General gossip she'd probably pass along, but not a secret so in deep. If the wrong people didn't know about Jordan's affiliation and find out because of the newsletter... She would never be able to forgive herself if someone like Jamal went after the poor dog. She wouldn't ever risk that. But if Jordan didn't see that in her, it was worse than she would have thought.
"Can you point me in the direction of the nearest river? I don't think I'll be able to make the hike back to town." Her skin was positively flaking off by this point and her breath seemed a bit more ragged, even if she'd been learning to focus and concentrate on it more.

Dee brushed off the seat of her shorts and nodded, tossing a thumb over her shoulder. "Back that way, Awen...I passed over one on my way here. Just follow the game trail.
"And Jordan...if you don't mind me butting in, but you seem like a nice fellow. You're considerate, and you're not stupid, but from a third perspective you definitely sound brain-washed. You're Moreau's guinea pig, but he's not your master, and I'm disgusted at them for whatever they did to turn you into this." She wasn't referring to his appearance, naturally.
"I hope to be able to talk to you two at another time...when we're all calm and rational. I'm in Duplex 29."

Jordan was about to answer that he'd lead Awen to a river, but Dee had considerately informed her, which made his life easier. He liked Awen a lot, she was a good friend, actually she and Lauren had been his only friends for some time. Perhaps he should have been less suspicious of her, but he was merely erring on the side of caution. It was hard being Jordan. He was the Doctor’s pawn and trying to be what Moreau expected him to be so that he could survive this life- and remain in comfort. He didn’t know how he wanted to respond to Awen, so he simply didn’t, walking past her.
Dee had hit the target on the nose and that made him a bit worried. She was sharp, but kept it on the down-low that she was so close to the truth. “Thanks.” He forced a smile “You’re nice and considerate as well.” He nodded to what was said last. “Yeah.. maybe we can get together and have a better time in a more hospitable situation.”
Assuming Awen would part his company for the river, the dog of Moreau disappeared into the foliage of the jungle, backtracking on the path that he’d taken.

"Thanks Dee..." Awen smiled. "We'll meet up again when things aren't so crazy. Special Duplex 1, by the lake." She gave the two a wave and a smile. "Take care guys!"
Turning the manta went down in the direction that the other woman was kind enough to point her in. Right now she just couldn't wait to slip back into the refreshing life giving waters of the island and put all of this on the back burner of her mind for now.

Dee sighed, slightly surprised despite herself at the return of silence to the grove. With a quick check to make sure she didn't miss anything she, too, departs.
