As Tommy began to charge back towards Sent the large avian slipped back another half a step. His staff reversed directions to return to its former position, as if the end pointing up made a difference, and slammed the tip into the ground. The flames around Sent began to flare up, his own defenses and countermeasures increasing in strength temporarily.

The divine energy was not based on the idea of light or a holy element, but simply the magical energy derived from a divine being. As Aetas, to whom Sent is The Herald, is neither holy or unholy, nullification based on these two elements do not operate. Furthermore, it is not the flame and the divine energy that repulses the blow, but the deflection aura that is granted to Sent by the breastplate he wears under his robes. The spear would rip through cloth and split the deflection away, only to stop dead on the finely crafted armor that encapsulates The Herald's torso. A single taloned hand would lash out with the intent of grabbing Tommy, the appendage still immolated in its divine conflagration.

The leg would be missing as Tommy rushed in for the attack, the birdman literally flipping over in midair. One hand would be guiding the staff down towards Tommy's form while a hand swept in from the side with intent to grab him. If both failed the flip would continue, allowing the aven's massive wings a chance to whip past and buffet Tommy as Sent continued on the rotation to a normal position.

The air began to catch flame in Sent's wake as he shifted, the massive quarterstaff down to sweep across the ground where Tommy was. The swing was simple, and he did not truly expect it to hit after the display of his opponent's abilities thus far. As such, the majority of his focus was instead devoted to summoning of divine will to build another spell.
