She listened quietly so many emotions running through her brain, none of which Alexa would be able to read with how stone like she kept her features. When the younger girl finally finished all she could do was nod, and move the tail away. But as she did it, the tail moved from her hair and then down the side of her face in a soft carrass. She REALLY shouldn't have done that. That much she knew. But her damn tail had a mind of its own it seemed like. It always acted and reacted with how she was inwardly feeling. Stupid thing.

The lemur laughed at that thought, oh so very true. "Well that's karma for you," she said smoothly before turning her attention back to the panaromic view of the duplex. "So what do you have to drink around here?"

Alexa had no idea what Maryke was thinking, that much was true. Her face was stoned like she'd seen so many times before, the lemur features only enhancing it. Yet, as if she was trying to say something she wouldn't otherwise emitt, her tail caressed Alexa's cheek. She melted on the inside. It was a small spark, a glimmer of hope that Maryke hadn't completely forgotten about her. At least, that's what she took it for. She could have been wrong, but generally speaking Maryke didn't make a move unless she had something in mind, and it was clear by that gesture that someting was lingering.

She paused for a moment, awash with the feelings of the moment. Then she stiffened as she realized she was being talked to. "Uhhhhhh..." she started, eyes wandering to the fridge. She wondered if someone had come by to stock it. She had seen people in and out when she had locked herself in occationally, as it was expected of them as far as she was concerned to keep things in her fridge. She moved away from Maryke, each step cutting into her, and opened the door, peering inside. "Well... I've got some water... and some juice... What did you have in mind?"

"No alcohol?" she asked, this time her feeling was evident as there was a small frown covering the front of her maw. "Figured you'd be loaded with it. Or did you try to drown out your sorrows?"

She glanced over her shoulder, catching the frown, then went back to digging around. "Well, there wasn't much in here when I arrived, and after I saw you that first day I made it a point to empty anything and everything in the fridge..." She scrounged through it, finding two beer bottles in the back. Lame. "I've got beer..." She said, the disappointment and mild disgust evident in her voice even though Maryke couldn't see her equally disgusted face.

Seldom did Maryke get her hopes up these days. Life in general for the former madam had been one dissappointment after the next, but now it was just a series of big letdowns. So with that being said, she shrugged and took the beer offered to her. It wasn't exactly cream of the crop in the acohol department, but it would do. Popping the tab she took a long swig as her ruffed ears twitched and her long silky tailk moved slowly back and forth.

Alexa pulled the remaining container from the fridge and shut it, straightening her stance. She turned and watched Maryke as she took a swig in silence. Something about this... was nice. She popped her own open after a moment's hesitation to admire the now-turned-lemur woman that used to be her boss. She ddin't take much more than a sip before she gestured to the couch. "You can sit if you want... the chairs don't bite." Of course, in this setting, she may not have been surprised if they did.

A still well kempt eyebrow, though now it blended in slightly with the rest of her blackened face, raised up as she cast a sidelong glance at her counterpart. A small unintelligable noise escaped her maw as she considered the offer. It was still raining she could hear it outside. She could obviously escape the downpour easily, but she wasn't so sure she wanted to be alone in her duplex should the rain pick up completely and turn into a fullfledged storm. It may have sounded kiddish, but storms were very frightening. Especially when you were already living under the fear that a feral tiger man wanted to rape and kill you. Perhaps in that order, perhaps not.

Billy was too far away and everyone else probably would feel ackward shelving her. And that only left one person. So she had no choice (in her own mind at least) to relent. She slinked over and flopped on the couch, careful not to spill her can of beer as she did so.

Alexa kept a keen eye on Maryke. She seemed to be considering the offer, but in a much heavier sense than Alexa had suspected necessary. Afterall, it was a simple question, wasn't it? She could either sit down or remain standing... but the gears in the older woman's head were churning. Something else was on her mind; perhaps something else was wrong.

The sound of the rain tinking against the fire escape was faint because of their distance from it, but it was easily heard on the roof since they were on the second floor. Alexa let a small sigh escape from her chest as she saw Maryke sink into her plush couch. She thought for a moent, but rather than simply taking a seat, she went to the door and fastened the locks. Then, once she was certain it was secure, she came to the couch, taking a seat at the other end so as not to step on the lemur woman's toes, so to say. She folded her legs and nestled into the corner between the arm rest and the back of the apholstery, holding her can in both hands like a child with a hot beverage. She sat in silence, watching her as if she knew Maryke had something to share.

Maryke was silent throughout the whole time, the ackwardness that had settled between then didn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Niether did the rain. She held her drink with one hand, idly tracing the can opening with the other, just simply staring off into the nothingness that was Alexa's place. When Alexa finally set back down Maryke couldn't help, but freak the girl out, if only just slightly.

So she slid the can of beer from the hand she was holding it from to her outstreched monkey foothand before drinking it from that, using her leg and foot much like an arm and leg combo.

The trick would have scared her more, had she not already spent some time with the lemur girl. Now, however, she was growing accustomed to seeing the fur and extra strange appendages. Alexa was always quick at adapting, and the fact that she was still in love with Maryke probably helped to expedite the process. Still, when she moved the drink to her foot and drank from it that way, Alexa couldn't help but to widen her eyes and watch in mild amazement.

Apparently Maryke was more monkey than Alexa originally anticipated. "That's neat..." she said after a pause to break the silence. She had considered lighting some candles; not for romance's sake, or in case the lights went out--she knew there must be a generator that would keep some lights working if not all of them--but just for comfort's sake. However, she didn't want to get up. Sitting in the somewhat dim, cozy lighting with Maryke was comforting in and of itself. Better than she had anticipated after their first meeting.

"Neat?" she scoffed quckly moving the drink back to its original position and putting her foot back down. "There's nothing neat about it!" Of course the original act was meant to tease and maybe shock Alexa, but something about the way she repsonded just rubbed her the wrong way.

"I'm a damn freak," she insisted, finally swallowing the rest of her beer, crunching up the can with ease and making a toss into a nearby wastebasket. "You can't honestly think this is all fun and games, can you?"

Alexa shrunk back, pressing further into the corner she'd seated herself against. She hadn't meant to strike a nerve, but it seemed like she certainly had. For a moment or two she wondered why Maryke reacted so violently to an innocent comment, but then she remembered. Maryke was Maryke. If something bothered her, you'd know.

"Of course not," she responded, somewhat meekly. "I just don't think you should call yourself a freak..." She trailed off for a moment collecting her thoughts further before continuing. "Even if you're part lemur, you're the same on the inside... and you still look the same, just furrier with a muzzle and a few new talents. Even if this isn't fun and games, shouldn't you appreciate what they gave you?" She cocked her head slightly to one side, wondering if she'd said too much, knowing that she probably had and Maryke might be angered further at the younger girl's appreciation of her new talents.

"you always were stupid and naive," she said bitterly, raising herself to hre full height, still on lemur tip toes once there. "You should learn to actually THINK before you speak. What talents do I actually have, Lexa? Huh? Tell me that? This....all of this," she said grabbing hold of her ears, then her tail, "It's DISGUSTING. You think just because *I* haven't changed on the outside then that makes everything okay? I AM a damn freak, everyone here is. And anyone who says otherwise," she sent a cold look towards the other, "Is a damn fool!"

She set her beer down on the coffee table slowly and looked at her with a guilty, scorned puppy look. Slowly, her eyes sunk to the floor as she realized, more than before, that she should have never opened her mouth. Then again, Alexa really never knew when to keep it shut in the first place, which is why she was always in so much trouble. So Alexa was a fool, and stupid, and naive. So what? At least she saw something good; an upside. Afterall, everyone had new abilities after they were changed, or so she supposed. For example, that Newt man could stand up very very tall, and Maryke could hang from the trees with her toes, and probably juggle very well if she was put to it since she had five appendages all suited for grabbing things.

It wasn't her fault she could see the good in it, even if it was an evil and twisted trick to play on anyone, herself included. Maybe she'd change her mind when she was sprouting fur or a tail or fins or gills or some other weird thing, but for now she couldn't help but to think the way she always had. "I still think you're beautiful..." she breathed under her breath, barely a sound at all. She knew she would probably be the only one to hear it, but it didn't matter. Saying it was enough for her.

Two white ruffed ears picked up the phrase being as strong as her senses were. It made her heart skip a few beats. Sure she had heard that phrase before, even a bit when she was this creature, this monster. But NEVER had it been uttered that earnestly, that softly, and that.....goddamn she needed to stop thinking. But all she could do was stare at Alexa wide eyed with her mouth slightly parted.
