About this novel:
The eleventh book in the Wheel of Time series is entitled Knife of Dreams. Robert Jordan sent us this information after we heard the rumor:
That is the title I've given [to Tor Books]. Knife of Dreams. It came to me much earlier in the writing than usual. Wait until you see the epigram I've written for it.
When is it due out?
Knife of Dreams is due out in October, 2005. This is the date that Robert Jordan is telling everyone anyway. What's interesting about this release is that RJ will probably finish the book in the Spring of 2005, but will request that Tor Books do a full editorial cycle on the book before releasing it. For the previous 3 or 4 novels, Tor published his book just a short 6 weeks after it was complete. This time, he wants there to be more time for editing.
As he has in the past, it is highly likely that Robert Jordan will go on book tour in the U.S. when this book is released. He will probably do some overseas events as well, but we're not sure where or when.
What will happen in this book?
Right now, you're guess is as good as ours. Besides the usual speculation, Robert Jordan has teased us with this info that was found on Tor's website.
At ComicCon in San Deigo, CA, Robert Jordan said the following about one of the events in Knife of Dreams:
Something that has previously happened in the series is going to be revealed to have a terrible cost.... When you read it your reaction will be, "Gasp. How horrible!"
When RJ was asked for more info about the origins of Mat's ancient memories, RJ replied with:
... At least a partial answer will be coming up in the next main sequence book...
hmmmm....
Also, the way Robert Jordan is talking, this next book seems like it may start to deliver on a lot of exciting events:
I think [Knife of Dreams] will have enough incident to satisfy anyone, certainly.
In April 2004, Amazon UK published a general summary of the book. It's an unofficial summary, and nothing that came from Robert Jordan or his team. In other words, it was written by somebody who had no special inside information about the next plot.
Robert Jordan's epic fantasy saga The Wheel of Time is now firmly established as a classic of the genre and a world- wide bestseller. Now the series continues with the eagerly-awaited eleventh volume ... The Seanchan Empire has primed their invading armies and they are advancing rapidly. The people look to the Aes Sedai sisterhood for protection, but the Aes Sedai have grown complacent after generations of authority. Yet as their numbers have dwindled, a secret society has been hiding under the White Tower's very nose. A society rich in power that could make all the difference in the final conflict ... Yet Rand Al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, is the only one who can triumph against the Dark One, and he will have to battle against the Seanchan, the White Tower and betrayal before the last battle.
As we get more confirmed hints, we'll mention them here.
