Elnara Aldrich "That in itself is a huge step for me," she replied. "For the longest time I couldn't be anywhere near people at all. Pretty much the only reason I even tried in Gaia was because I was so lost and I wasn't stupid enough to ignore my need for help - and food. I'm sure it was the first time I spoke since it happened to me." She picked up the knife again and twirled it around her finger again. Triton Winters "A step most don't take no matter what," Triton replied again, she really did like blades. He should have shopped for one before he left, she would have liked that.
"You don't give yourself enough credit," Triton murmured, "At any rate how we are doing to prepare that?" he pointed to the turtle."
Tao didn't even bother she went back to the river and found fish... that didn't bite her back. Elnara Aldrich Without skipping a beat, she flicked her fingers and the knife zipped through the air and stuck in the turtle's softer underside. The turtle started swinging back and forth from the impact. "Once it's bled out, we can remove the underside ... a lot easier than taking the shell off," she told him. "Then it's the same as any other animal. Blood's healthy for you too. If you're ever stuck for something to drink, it'll do you. No other blood is safe to drink, it's all too salty." She grimaced. "The things I learned from my grandfather," she muttered, shaking her head and smiling. Triton Winters "Hey it's survival skills," Triton chuckled trying to hide a smile, "I think we kids all got lessons in first-aid along with survival just in case, though we ended up using the first-aid more though.... gah.. the problems with living out in the middle of nowhere." Elnara Aldrich "I was never taught either," she said thoughtfully. "Though I'm sure my parents ... had we gone on as a normal family ... would have taught me, or had me taught. I only learned the blades because my father shared my obsession ... or perhaps I shoud say, I shared his ... and his mother was the same. No, when I left, it was pretty much all trial and error." She grinned. "I guess I didn't do too too badly after all." Triton Winters Triton chuckled, "You could write a book on it...." he laughed a bit, "If you were so inclined to anyhow, though you did mention there are no books so that would be silly. Besides it means unless you also decided to invent a way to quickly copy writing, it would take forever to get more than one copy of a book out." Elnara Aldrich "Oh, there are books," she corrected him quickly, "lots of them. Just not kids books, is all." She blinked. "But what would I write a book about?" Triton Winters "About the things you've learnt, you've been out here for so long you probably know things that others do not," Triton replied, "And know things period. What better way to keep ideas alive than to write them down in a book?" Elnara Aldrich She blushed. "No one would believe me," she mumbled. "It would be a myth to them, a waste of precious materials ..." Triton Winters "And that's how myths are saved... besides... behind every myth is a grain of truth, it just takes finding," Triton replied, "All of our myths and legends gets written down, that's how they spread to different cultures that are not even our own." Elnara Aldrich She raised one eyebrow. "Keep in mind," she reminded him, "the literacy rate here is not nearly as high as in Gaia. Most knowledge is passed by work of mouth, not by literature or anything like that." Her fingers were twitching ... she needed to fiddle with something. She wished she hadn't thrown the knife ... Meh. She got to her feet and retrieved the knife, then sat down again and resumed twirling it around her finger. Triton Winters "True.... unlike most parts in Gaia where by law you have to send your child to school or home school them until they reach a certain age," Triton murmured, "Not that anyone pays attention to those laws the further you get away from the city." Elnara Aldrich "How strange," she mused. "We don't have schools ... not in the same sense as in Gaia. There are tutors, but mostly parents teach their children ... and those who want to learn a particular craft become apprentices." She frowned. "And then there are those of us who really have no choice in what we are to become." She looked up at him and grinned mischievously. "I don't suppose it would come as a surprise to you if I were to tell you that I don't see myself as future-queen material." Triton Winters "Not really.... you're knowledgable," Triton admitted, "And would be able to lead others, but the whole politics and mannerisms.... that is the problem," he chuckled a bit, "That or you'd drive whomever it was assigned to keep an eye on you nuts." Elnara Aldrich She laughed at his comment, though she wondered what he meant by it. "Do you mean they would go crazy because I have a tendancy to disappear?" she asked. "Or because having to have one would drive me crazy and I'd drive everyone else crazy complaining about it and he would go crazy doing a job he knows isn't wanted?" She laughed again.

Triton Winters "Perhaps a bit of both?" Triton suggested, "If you kept disappearing it would give any bodyguard a nervous break down... well maybe not any... not if you have one of those annoying bodyguards who are serious and way way too good at their job." Elnara Aldrich "Yeah, I had one of them once," she nodded, smiling. " ... yeah. Not fun." She shrugged. "But then, I suppose bodyguards aren't supposed to be fun ..." Her eyebrows creased. "Though apparently Ninako's wan't too bad ... or her ninako's ..." Elrohir Aldrich A group of fireflies floated out of the forest and hovered around the fire for a few seconds before wandering off into the night. Triton Winters "Well I guess it depends on how close you are to your bodyguard," Triton replied, "After all, the more of a stranger they are to you, the more you don't want them to be hanging around." Elnara Aldrich She laughed and watched the fireflies disappear. "Maybe I should tell you ... both of them ended up falling in love with and marrying their bodyguards." Triton Winters "Well..." Triton couldn't help but laugh, "You can't get any closer than that I'm afraid...."
He chuckled at the thought, it sounded like something out of a fairy tale. Elnara Aldrich She nodded slowly. Her thoughts were beginning to wander again ... "I wonder how Aranhil is ..." she said softly, staring across the river absently. Triton Winters "Who's Aranhil?" Triton asked curiously as he sat down, since there was nothing they could do till sunrise anyhow. Elnara Aldrich She lowered her head and blushed. "He ... was my boyfriend ... until I left," she said quietly. "I'm ... scared to see him again. He was a nice guy - but really we were both kids then - and ... now, with what's happened to me ..." She trailed off and hugged her knees close. "I'm just afraid," she finished simply. Triton Winters "Ah...." Triton murmured as if it spoke volumes, somehow he shouldn't have been so surprised, she was what?
In her teens when she left home, that was about the right time to have a boyfriend, if one was inclined to find a possible mate to be to begin with.
"Just take it one at a time," Triton murmured, "Who knows? Maybe having someone understanding and just willing to be there will help." Elnara Aldrich She looked up at him and nodded, then smiled softly. "Yeah, it does help to have understanding people around ..." She took a deep breath. "It's just ... been so long, I don't even know what he's like anymore." And to be honest, she wasn't sure she was ready to find out. Triton Winters "You're going to have to find out sooner or later," Triton murmured, "Unless he's moved or decided to go travelling he'll probably be there when we get there."
He crossed his legs, and breathed slowly, focusing just on his surroundings. There was no reason why he should let himself go neither... Elnara Aldrich She nodded, but didn't say anything further on the subject. She saw something moving in the corner of her eye and looked up. "Hey, a shooting star," she said with a smile, pointing it out to Triton. Triton Winters Triton opened his eyes and looked up in time to see it trail across the sky. He wondered how different the sky was from his own, he couldn't tell the difference, but Yuki probably could. Since he spent most of his time star gazing.
"Make a wish," he murmured. Elnara Aldrich A wish? Why not ... But she didn't know what she wanted to wish for ... her family ... to get over her fears ... to be able to go back to Gaia sometime ... to have a family ... to travel even more ... so many contradictions, which should she choose? Finally, she wished for the one thing she wanted more than anything else, though she knew that it would never come true. I wish my entire family was back together, Ninako, Father, Mother ... everyone.

Triton Winters Triton hadn't really been one for wishes, he didn't even know what he'd wish for. After all life was pretty good, and he didn't feel lonely, he supposed, he would wish for things to turn out better, for his mother. Though he had a funny feeling that wish was already in the works. Elnara Aldrich Elnara lay down and rested her head on her arm, pulling her blanket over herself. She stared into the fire silently, her head filled with thoughts. What if no one recognized her? Or what if they didn't believe her? She was sure they would be happy to see her again, but what if they didn't believe she had been in a different world, and that for her, only five years had passed? Then she wondered what the exact date was. It was Quellë, she knew, but ... what date? It could very well be her birthday soon ... or past, even. She wondered if she would be twenty or twenty six years old. Triton Winters Triton blanketed Tao before taking to his own place for the night thinking just random things. He kind of wished he brought his own journal, but well it couldn't be helped it wasn't like they were going to have time anyhow. Elnara Aldrich Elnara lay in silence for a few minutes, then said quietly, "Do you want the first watch, or do you want me to take it?" Triton Winters "I'll take it if you want," Triton replied, since he had found that really one would be hard pressed to fall off of Tao and if that being the case then it wouldn't matter how much sleep she got as long as Elnara was awake to lead. Elnara Aldrich "Thanks," she murmured, her eyes already closed. She had a vague thought that she should be checking on something before she ... She fell asleep. Triton Winters Triton watched the night, listening carefully and hearing the soothing sound of everyone else's breathing. He watched as the night past them by.
A few hours later, or there about he was shaking Elnara awake gently. His back was kind of stiff even though he was using Tao to proped himself up. Elnara Aldrich She instinctively grabbed his arms tightly as she jerked awake. When she saw that it was just him, she relaxed and let out her breath slowly. "Sorry," she murmured. "Everything okay?" She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Triton Winters "Yes, it's been a quiet night so you shouldn't have any trouble unless fate decides to be a b***h right now," Triton replied with a reassuring smile, he should have chosen another way to wake her, he kept that in mind though he wasn't sure how else since this wasn't Were. Elnara Aldrich She nodded and smiled, the pulled her blanket around her shoulders once more. "Sleep well," she told him, and prepared herself for her watch. Triton Winters "Thanks," Triton smiled before taking a spot near the fire.
He stared at it for a while before closing his eyes. He kind of wondered how many times his mom had done the same thing, only alone by herself. He kind of wondered what that was like. Elnara Aldrich She had only been watching for a few minutes when she heard something approaching softly. She tensed and melted back into the shadows, gripping the knife she still had from earlier, just in case. It turned out her fears were unfounded: it was only a small housecat that wandered up to their fire. She relaxed and sat once more by the fire. The cat was cute, she thought ... all black except for a white diamond just above its nose ... She watched it curiously as it sniffed around the fire, then padded over to Triton. It sniffed at his face for a minute, then at his ears. It sat and licked its shoulder, then sniffed Triton again. Then it wandered over to Elnara's side of the fire. She held out her hand, wondering if it would be scared of her ... Apparently not. It sniffed her hand, then rubbed its head against it. She scratched it behind the ears, then began petting it. It began purring, and stepped into her lap and curled up. Elnara shrugged. Ah well, the company would help keep her awake at any rate. She kept petting it, but returned her attention to the night surrounding them. Finally, after several hours, she got to her feet and went over to poke Triton awake, the cat following her. Triton Winters Triton grunted before opening his eyes curling up on his side as he looked at her and looked at the cat.
"When did we get a guest all the way out here?" he asked.
Not that he minded cats, there were more cat and cat like pets back home anyhow. Elnara Aldrich Elnara shrugged. "Pretty much right after you fell asleep," she told him, "though where it came from I have no idea. I'm amazed it survives the wild here." She headed back to her blanket. "At any rate, there are worse pets that could adopt us." She curled up in a ball and drew her blanket close. "Don't forget to wake me again," she murmured, falling asleep instantly. The cat followed her back, and when she didn't pet it again, it curled up right beside her face and fell asleep too. Triton Winters Triton sat up looking around the area now that it was his turn, but to also see what was around the area that could allow a cat of all things to live out here. Sure if it at least was a bobcat he could understand, but something the size of a housecat?
He shook his head, maybe it was travelling with it's owner... or something to that effect, who knew?

Elrohir Aldrich A sniffling noise suddenly started in the darkness, and Elnara's cloak started moving. Then came the sound of frightened tears. Triton Winters "Hmmm?" Triton rose from his spot cautiously going over to her cloak, reaching for the hem to pull it up and see why the sound. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron curled up in a ball and covered his head with his hands.
"Don' hurt me!" he whimpered, trembling. Triton Winters "Shhh...." Triton murmured softly kneeling beside the little boy stroking his hair or at least the part that was uncovered, "I'm not going to hurt you kiddo. It's okay."
He should have foreseen this, they both should have, after all how long was the kid with them? Elrohir Aldrich He opened one eye and looked up. It wasn't a scary voice ... and when he saw who it was, he realized it wasn't a scary man either. He scrambled into Triton's lap and wrapped his arms around him as tight as he could.
"Don' let 'em takes me back," he wimpered. "Don' wannit them hurts me no more!" Triton Winters "We're not going back," Triton replied rubbing Daeron's back and letting the child cling, "We're heading toward the Borderlands, far away from them. They won't get you." Elrohir Aldrich He cleaned his nose on Triton's shirt, then yawned.
"Still seepy," he lisped. Triton Winters "Then go back to sleep," Triton suggested, "It's night now and much past your bedtime I think don't you?" Elrohir Aldrich He nodded slowly and leaned into Triton, still clinging tightly to his shirt. Within seconds his light breathing indicated he was fast asleep once more. Triton Winters Triton made a note that sleepy peppermint did nothing for nightmares, sitting a bit more comfortably he held Daeron, he had a feeling he wasn't going to get up for the rest of the night. Elnara Aldrich Elnara stirred in her sleep. She opened her eyes to a black wall, and sat up halfway. When she saw it was the cat that had been in front of her she sighed and relaxed. She looked around for Triton, but she didn't see him ... "Tri?" she called, pulling her blanket around her shoulders. "Where are you?" Triton Winters "Over here," Triton replied from where he sat with Daeron in his arms, "He had a nightmare last night I think, and was kind of misplaced for a moment, at least I think so." Elnara Aldrich She turned around and saw him behind her with Daeron on his lap. She breathed a sigh of relief. "Poor kid," she murmured. "He must have really had it bad with those men ..." She felt sad, sadder than she had felt in a long time. "I just don't understand why you let them go," she added. "They're only going to do it again ..." Triton Winters Triton sighed, he hadn't thought about killing them, it just isn't the first thing that comes to mind, especially when they were so easily beat.
"A life is a life, no matter how anyone justifies it," Triton replied, "It's a heavy burden to bare, and one I don't know I can take on quite yet." Elnara Aldrich She shook her head. "Barbaric as my life may seem, I didn't mean kill them," she told him. "Simply taking them to where they could be tried by law. Or something." She yawned. "How much time left on your watch?" she asked. "Or is it my turn already?"

Triton Winters "I didn't imply anything by it," he murmured, "Only that I myself am not ready," he looked up at the sky for a while, "I think it's almost your turn, but I won't be able to get up and I don't want to wake Daron again." Elnara Aldrich She raised one eyebrow. "Unless you can sleep sitting up like that, I suggest you lie down ... somehow," she said with a smile. "I'll get your blanket for you ..." Triton Winters "Hmm....." Triton smiled a bit looking around, "This is going to be an interesting thing...."
He carefully tried to lay side first that way he wouldn't be landing hard on his back and he was sure the ground was pretty hard. Using is elbow to turn himself on his back and placying Daeron comfortably on top. Elnara Aldrich Elnara laughed and brought his blanket over. "If you want you can use my cloak as a pillow," she told him, "seeing as I don't need it, since I have my own blanket." Triton Winters "Nah..." Triton replied bending his neck back a bit to look at her, even though it was from an upside down point of view now that he was laying down, "I'm fine like this just a blanket so me and the kid won't freeze thanks." Elnara Aldrich She smiled and threw the blanket over them, making sure that their feet weren't sticking out the bottom. "All good?" she asked with a grin. Triton Winters Triton chuckled a bit, "It's good, I think we'll manage."
As strange as the position was.... Elnara Aldrich "Then get some rest," she told him. "If anything happens you're no good as a bodyguard if you're sleeping on your feet." She grinned. Triton Winters Triton laughed a bit, "Yes, yes I will then if that is the case," he put his hand on the back of Dareon before closing his eyes.
Hopefully the kid wouldn't have another nightmare that would be most unpleasant for him. Elnara Aldrich The remainder of the night passed uneventfully. The cat that had joined them kept Elnara company, and she was quite content to watch the rest of the night and let Triton sleep. It was true, neither of them had slept properly the night before; but she could sleep while awake, while Triton could not ... and it would be best if he were alert. The dawn crept up eventually, and Elnara put out the fire by passing her hand over it. She took a long drink from the river's cool clear water before waking Triton. She put one hand on his shoulder gently, trying to wake him while letting Daeron sleep. Triton Winters Triton cracked one eye open and sighed, for a guy who was use to getting up at the crack of dawn so he could do his katas he seemed to be not getting up as well since they got here. Perhaps there was a difference in time he was not yet aware of.
"So...." he murmured, "How do we keep Daeron from waking up?" Elnara Aldrich "Just move slowly," she said quietly, "he should stay sleeping. Even if the plant's effects are finished, he's probably really tired from his ordeal." A pained expression crossed her face as she said this. She added, "But it may not be a good idea for him to sleep too long. We should wake him when we're ready to start moving again. The longer he sleeps, the more likely he'll have nightmares." She spoke with the wisdom of one who knew from experience. Triton Winters "Okay...." Triton nodded as best as he could as he slowly moved to sit up so he could hand the kid over to Elnara.
It was a bit akward too, but at least he could sit up straight from a laying down position otherwise it would have never been possible. Elnara Aldrich She took Daeron carefully and held him like a baby in her arms. His head fell against her shoulder and he let out a little snort in his sleep, then sighed and went right on sleeping. She spread her cloak on the ground once more with her toes and laid the child down on it. Then something caught her eye. "I guess it'll be a while before we set off again," she said thoughtfully. "I forgot ... the turtle. It's ready now."

Triton Winters "That's good," Triton got up from the ground brushing is clothes off, for once he was grateful to the Eastern style clothing Helen had made him wear it was loose and comfortable, which was probably why he suggested it. Though he had to redo the shirt and belt since it also had become loose during the night. Elnara Aldrich She picked up the knife from where she had left it the night before. As she untied the turtle, she asked, "Want to help?" Triton Winters "Sure," Triton replied tucking the sides of the shirt in (since it was more of a wrap around to wear almost like a robe), "How do you want to prepare it?" Elnara Aldrich She brought it over to where they had slept. "The best thing would be to cure it, but that could take a few days ... and really there's a lot of meat on a turtle, but not so much that it's worth the wait," she said thoughtfully. "We could smoke it, that goes a little faster and has the same effect. Or we could just make one big meal out of it - which is also possible, since there are three of us - and eat it before we go on." Triton Winters "We could since most of us didn't really eat or skipped a meal completley yesterday," Triton looked at Daeron, "Especially him, so we could just eat it now, but does that mean we roast the bugger or something?" Elnara Aldrich "Roast the bugger," she repeated, laughing. "Oh, you're funny! We could do that, but first - no matter which way we're going to eat him - we need to separate the meat and the other good stuff from the bones and ... stuff." She giggled, then used the blade of the knife to start prying off the soft underside of the turtle's shell. Triton Winters "Well Tao would consider him a bugger if she could talk, he did snap onto her beak after all," Triton replied looking down at it, "And yes... cleaning and gutting it would be preferable, only I've never gutted a turtle before." Elnara Aldrich She laughed. "No better time to learn, then." She pushed harder on the knife, trying to find the weak spot where the shell would separate ... She gave up. "Here, you try," she said, handing both the turtle and the knife to Triton. "You should be able to just pry it, but if you can't ... we're going to have fun trying to get anything useful out of that turtle." She glared at it as if it were all the turtle's fault. Triton Winters "You mean there's a spot you can actually pry the shell open like you were dealing with crab or something?" Triton asked taking the turtle and knife looking for some kind of seam, though unlike crabs.... turtle shells didn't have joints a person to exploit if they wanted to get it out. Elnara Aldrich "Er, not really," she admitted. "Just a weaker spot where if you can get a good blade in it, you can snap it apart. Or cut it, if your blade is sharp enough ... which I doubt. The only blades I know of that would be sharp enough are littinum ... and I understand that there's nothing like it in your world." She looked at the turtle thoughtfully, wondering whether Triton's blade would even be strong enough to simply pry it open, or whether the blade would break ... She hoped it wouldn't. Triton Winters Triton handed the knife to Elnara, "Then this is not what we need," he really didn't like to use a blade that was obviously met for fighting but it was the only blade he had that could cut the stupid thing open anyhow he thought as he reached for his sword.
Carefully setting the turle on it's side on the ground he sliced the side open since Elnara probably still wanted it as a bowl. Elnara Aldrich She grinned, then laughed. "That works too!" She peered at it closely. "But what's left of the insides?" she giggled. "Skooshed all to mush, some of it." She picked up the smaller blade once more and started poking through it. Triton Winters "I guess that's what happens when you let it bleed out, it was also probably badly brusied from when Tao was swing it around it looked like she was going to try and crush it," Triton commented. Elnara Aldrich She laughed at the memory. "Yes, that could have something to do with it," she agreed. She set the two halves of the shell beside each other and began gutting the turtle. She set the meat and edible organs in the hard shell, and pre the remains in the soft part that would be left behind. Triton Winters Triton watched as she prepared the turle to be cooked, and was kind of curious because on the road cooking was something he never really done, sure he knew a lot about it, but to deal with what you had was a bit different.

Elnara Aldrich "Heart, liver, kidney," she muttered, setting them with the edibles. "Should we give what's left to Tao?" she asked Triton, glancing over at him. She held up the soft part of the shell and the things that were in it - bones, lungs, stomach and a few other things. Triton Winters "I don't see why not, she eats nearly everything else whole," Triton mused remembering her with a squirrel tail dangling out of her mouth.
After all she might like it... if she did one would pity the turtles back home. Elnara Aldrich She laughed and handed him the stuff for Tao. "I'll let you give it to her while I finish up here," she told him with a giggle. She wondered which way she should prepare it. "Do you want stew, soup, or roast?" she asked. Triton Winters "How about soup?" Triton asked as he took it over to Tao, who seemed to know she was getting a treat or at least something to eat.
She was pretty much dancing (in a way a horse would) from side to side eyeing what Triton had in his hands. Elrohir Aldrich Voices brought Daeron back to consciousness. His first instinct was to hide. He wimpered and curled up into a tiny ball and put his arms over his head protectively. Elnara Aldrich Elnara looked up when she heard the sound, and saw that Daeron was awake - either that or having another nightmare. She looked at her bloody hands and muttered, "Ah, great." She sighed. "Tri, can you get Daeron? I'm filthy." Triton Winters "Sure," Triton replied setting the food down for Tao who pounced on it with glee, he wiped his hands a bit on a near by tree though he nearly wiped it on his robes before crouching down near Daeron.
"Daeron?" he lightly touched the boy's shoulder. Elrohir Aldrich It wasn't a scary voice ... He squeezed one eye open.
"T'alion-tôl!" he squealed, and sat up. He rubbed his eyes, still sleepy. "Where Nara-thêl?" he asked, yawning. "Is the bad mans all gone?"
His hair on one side of his head was sticking straight out while the other side was normal, making him look funny. He of course did not realize this. Elnara Aldrich Elnara smiled. Another new name for Triton ... cute. She started the fire up again, this time smaller. Triton Winters "They didn't even dare set foot here," Triton replied licking the palm of his hand and trying to groom down the cowlick that Daeron got in his sleep, "Elnara is making breakfast." Elrohir Aldrich "B'ekky!" he squealed. The magic word. "I'm honny! What's her makin?" Elnara Aldrich She filled the shell with water and added as much of the turtle as she could fit in it, then set the shell right in the fire. "Turtle soup, little guy," she grinned. "I bet you're really hungry, you didn't eat much yesterday." Well, partially because she had drugged him early in the afternoon ... Triton Winters "Sounds good right?" Triton grinned sittind down next to Daeron, "And then on the road again, hopefully you won't get too bored." Elrohir Aldrich He looked around. "Woad? No woad here ..." He pointed at the river. "We gotta swim there?" he asked. "I don' like it waters ... Ada says cos I nearly drownded oncet. Inna waters by home." Elnara Aldrich Elnara realized suddenly that they had neither bowls nor spoons ... they were certainly going to have fun eating the soup ... Bah. She'd figure something out. She stirred it with the knife as it started steaming.

Triton Winters Triton eyed the river and the boy at the same time, he couldn't blame the kid.
"You can ride Tao, she can get across without having to swim it, and you're light enough so I don't think it'll be a problem for her." Elrohir Aldrich His eyes lit up. "I gidda fry?" he asked, grinning widely and clapping his hands. "I gidda fry!"
He looked over at the griffin and cocked his head curiously. "Zat ye'r griffin, T'alion-tôl?" he asked. Elnara Aldrich Elnara raised one eyebrow, listening to him talk. She didn't know if his speech was getting better or worse. Well, at least he wasn't talking like Nina anymore. Triton Winters "Well.... techically speaking that's my Mom's griffin," Triton explained, "She really wanted to make sure Elnara and I were fine so she sent Tao with us."
Which for now he was forever grateful. Elrohir Aldrich "You nana Nara's nana?" he asked innocently. "Makes sure you safes?" Triton Winters "Uhm...." Triton tried to untangle what Daeron just said, it was hard to tell, "Are you asking me if my Mom is... Nara's?" he blinked, okay he really didn't get that. Elrohir Aldrich "Is you nana Nara's nana?" he repeated obediently. "You Nara's tôl?" Elnara Aldrich She laughed as she stirred the broth. Ah, well, there were worse questions he could have asked. Triton Winters Triton sighed and looked over his shoulder at Elnara, "Okay, what is he asking me?" Elnara Aldrich She giggled. "If your mother is my mother, and if you're my brother." She looked up at him and laughed. "But honestly, if there's one assumption I don't mind people making about us, that's it!" Elrohir Aldrich Daeron nodded agreement, sending his hair bouncing up and down. "T'alion-tôl my tôl, Nara-thêl my thêl, so T'alian Nara's tôl and Nara T'alian's thêl," he said grinning. "Right?" Triton Winters "OH...." Triton replied as the light bulb went off in his head, "Well... uhm... not really, though no one would be surprised if that was the case," Triton added, "Seriously if you called Mom, Mom everyone would believe you back home." Elnara Aldrich She laughed again. "I'm probably closer to her age than she is to my mother's!" she grinned. "No way people would believe it. I mean, come on." Triton Winters Triton gave her a look before looking at himself, "And what does that make me? Do you know how akward it is to have a mother who could easily be your best friend's girl friend, if I had been ever so inclined to make friends with men my age?" Elnara Aldrich She paused thoughtfully. "Yeah ... you have a point there," she admitted. "I guess it's just because I've finally gotten used to the idea that you're only one solar year old ... no matter how mature you look, or are for that matter." She stirred the soup, which was beginning to boil.

Elrohir Aldrich Daeron crawled over to watch Elnara work.
"Gots nummies in dere?" he asked, pointing at the upside-down shell. "Smells nummies." Triton Winters Triton nodded, "Which is why you are more than capable of telling someone you're one of her kids because frankly after a while no one can tell the difference." Elrohir Aldrich Daeron looked up at Triton again. "Nara-thêl gonna steal you nana?" he asked. Elnara Aldrich Elnara nodded. "Well it's food anyways, whether or not it's going to be good is debatable," she muttered more to herself than in answer to Daeron's question. The cat appeared suddenly at her side and rubbed against her leg. She scratched it behind the ears absentmindedly. Triton Winters Triton laughed at that, "Well I'm so use to sharing my nana, that I'm sure if it came down to it Elnara wouldn't mind sharing mine if she wanted to." Elnara Aldrich She smiled. "Your mother is absolutely wonderful," she said wistfully. "Though I'm sure you understand I'd like to try to find my own first." She tucked her hair behind her ears and turned her attention to the food. Elrohir Aldrich "T'alian-tôl gots a nice nana?" Daeron asked eagerly. "I gots a nice nana too!" Triton Winters Triton grinned at Daeron before looking over at Elnara studying the turtle bowl, "Hmm... no spoons and one bowl, I think I have a cup somewhere..." Triton murmured shifting into his bag, he wasn't sure why they packed a cup, but they did, so he proved by pulling out a durable plastic one. Elnara Aldrich She looked up and grinned. "Good thing someone came prepared," she quipped. The cat purred as if agreeing with her. Elrohir Aldrich "Oohhh, kitty!" Daeron squealed. "Where the kitty come from?"
He knelt beside it and put his face next to the cat's. Triton Winters "Careful," Triton warned giving the mug to Elnara so she could put some soup into it, "Cats like their space."
And some cats were just vicious. Elnara Aldrich The cat poked at Daeron's face curiously, then head butted him and rubbed against him. Elnara laughed. "Doesn't look too dangerous to me," she replied. "Not like we're keeping it here anyways. As for the soup ... give me a few more minutes, I think ..." She set the mug on the ground beside her. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron giggled. "Nice kitty," he laughed. Elnara Aldrich Elnara smiled and speared a piece of turtle meat with the knife and blew on it, then took a tentative bite. "Excellent," she grinned. She dipped the cup in and handed it to Triton. "Careful," she warned, "it's really hot." Triton Winters "Thanks," Triton replied using his cloak to hold the cup, the cloth being an insulator against him getting burnt at the hands if it was too hot, though plastic tended to be okay compared to other types of mugs.

Elrohir Aldrich Daeron lost interest in the cat and wandered over to Tao instead. He started poking at one of her wings, running his fingers over her feathers. Elnara Aldrich Elnara finished the piece of meat she had on the knife. It had been a long while now since she had had something like this ... she hadn't realized that she had missed it. But then, she'd had a lot of delicious new foods to try out in Gaia ... Triton Winters Tao tittered bending her head around to look at the little boy and gently groomed his hair, which to her was trying to pick out any bugs that might be in it. Though he didn't have bugs in his hair, but it didn't stop her from trying.
Triton drank slowly, blowing on the hot steam while keeping an eye on the Griffin and child. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron giggled. "Tickles." He started petting her wings. "Pretty g'iffin." Elnara Aldrich Elnara put out the fire and carefully lifted the shell from the pile of sticks. She glanced over at Daeron and Tao and smiled. "Careful," she warned. She knew Tao was gentle and friendly - but she didn't know what her limits were. Triton Winters "It's okay," Triton murmured between sips, "Tao is just grooming him for bugs, not like he has any, but she does it anyways. Though she's young, she's a match for Mom in the terms of motherly instincts." Elnara Aldrich She relaxed. "Good. It's good for him to have something else to draw his attention. Otherwise he's going to drive us both crazy before we get far." She grinned. "At least Nina's still sleeping." Triton Winters "Yes, and as long as nothing wakes her up she'll stay alseep for a day longer," Triton replied with a bit of relief, "This, is going to be a long trip, how far are we from the nearest town? Because we really should get him something to fiddle with, otherwise even with Nina asleep he'll be driving us nuts." Elnara Aldrich "Town?" she repeated, then took a thoughtful sip of the soup. "The one we were at the other day. Other than that ... there's the settlement in the Borderlands, where we're headed anyways. It's ... another week, anyways. Elvish week. Six days," she added. The cat sidled up beside her and meowed as if asking for some food. She smiled and flicked one of the smaller pieces of meat at it. Triton Winters "A week..." Triton sighed, he had enough siblings to know what that would mean, "Then we better thing of creative ways to keep him occupied because a week's travel, six days is a lot for a kid. Unless you think he's use to it?" Elrohir Aldrich "Town?" Daeron asked. His ears had picked that out. "Borderlan's?" He broke into a wide grin and tromped back over to Elnara and Triton. "Are we're gonna see the mount'ns?" he asked, his eyes lit with excitement. "I like's them!" Elnara Aldrich She laughed. "Yes, we're going to the mountains. Do you go there a lot?" she asked, wondering if he was maybe come from there. "You go places a lot?" Elrohir Aldrich He nodded. "Lotses! Likes the mount'ns. My town gots lotsa mount'ns roun' it, an' a river too dist like this one!" He pointed to the river. "But not inna Borderlan's, dist Ada's fammy goes dere."
He leaned on Elnara's shoulder and pointed at the shell full of soup. "Sommer dat's for me?" he asked eagerly. Elnara Aldrich She laughed. "Yes, yes, some for you," she grinned, and handed him the shell. She looked up at Triton. "There's some good news, he's from my city." Triton Winters "So we can drop him off on the way," Triton nodded, "At least now we know where to take him, though that still doesn't solve the problem of what to do with him during a very long trip."

Elrohir Aldrich Daeron looked up from his meal. "Kin I ride onner g'iffin?" he asked hopefully. "I likes her." He looked over at her again. "Sees p'etty." Elnara Aldrich Elnara raised one eyebrow. "Triton?" Triton Winters "Sure," Trition murmured, "I don't see why not, you don't weigh much anyhow and I'm sure Tao won't mind."
In fact she might be very happy, she seemed to take well to children in general. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron started bouncing happily. "Yay!" he squealed. The soup started sliding out of the shell, and he grabbed it again. "Uh oh!"
He giggled and started eating again. Elnara Aldrich "Careful!" Elnara warned him again. "You're going to burn yourself, or waste the food!" Elrohir Aldrich He looked up. "I sowwy." His eyes welled up with tears. "You not gonna hurts me, is you?"
He set the shell down carefully and started to back up. Elnara Aldrich Elnara gasped. "Of course not!" She ran over to him and gathered him in her arms and hugged him. "No one's gonna hurt you," she reassured him. "Not while Triton and I are around to keep you safe." She ran her fingers through his hair and hugged him again. What did he go through, she wondered, that he's this scared of eating wrong?Perhaps he wouldn't get over his ordeal as quickly as she had hoped. Triton Winters Triton mused on this for a moment touching his bag gently, perhaps it wasn't such a bad thing Nina was with them now. At least, despite her illogical way of talking, she could help the poor guy.
"Don't worry," Triton nodded in agreement. Elrohir Aldrich He snuggled down into Elnara's lap, then looked up at her. "Then I can eats more?" Elnara Aldrich She gave him a squeeze. "As much as you want," she assured him. Triton Winters Triton grinned a bit, "So better eat up, because it'll be hard to eat while being on Tao. Since we better get going...." Elrohir Aldrich Daeron nodded eagerly and picked up the shell once more. By now the soup was no longer hot - merely warm - and he picked up the pieces of meat with his fingers and shoved a bunch of them in his mouth all at once.
"Is nummy," he grinned.
He had it all gone within a few minutes. "I gets to ride onna g'iffin now?" he asked eagerly, running over to Triton and looking up at him with big pleading eyes. Triton Winters Triton nodded, "Yes yes.... it would be better than you swimming across the river, I just need to put my bag onto her first."
And to tell Tao to becareful, even though he knew he didn't need telling. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron grinned and ran off towards Tao. Elnara Aldrich Elnara watched him go with one eyebrow raised. "You know," she commented, rising to her feet, "I think Tao might actually be the best thing for him." She picked up the turtle shell and rinsed it in the river, then tucked it into her bag. "Let me put my bag on her, too," she said. "I'd prefer if it didn't get wet either."

Triton Winters "Yea, besides they aren't that heavy," Triton replied as he secured his back to her carefully.
He was kind of grateful now for the collar otherwise there would be problems. Elrohir Aldrich "D'er I gets to ride on 'er now?" Daeron asked, bobbing up and down on his tippy-toes. He grabbed onto Triton's sleeve. "D'er I gets tto get on 'er?"
He grinned widely and tugged on Triton's sleeve. Triton Winters Triton chuckled, "A bit of patience Daeron, we have to make sure everything is secure you know. Yes you'll get to ride her in the a second, just need to make sure everything is there." Elnara Aldrich Elnara laughed. "Patience, Daeron, settle down." She closed her bag and brought it over to Triton and handed it to him so he could tie it on Tao as well. Triton Winters "Hold still," Triton told Tao as he took her bag and secured it to Tao's other side, he hoped she would be alright with it, but she seemed fine enough considering she was going to carry two bags and a little boy across the river. Elrohir Aldrich "Me me me me me!" Daeron begged, tugging on Triton's sleeve again. "Whenner I getta go on?" Triton Winters Triton had to chuckle at that as he picked Daeron up and placed the little boy on top of the griffin, carefully setting his legs where it wouldn't get in the way of her wings and giving him the rope.
"Now you have to hold on tight to her okay?" Elrohir Aldrich He nodded, grinning. "Is we gonna fry?" he asked. "Over the water? So I don' hafta swim it?"
He gripped the rope so hard his knuckles started turning white. Triton Winters "I'd like to call it a running leap, the river isn't is wide, but not wide enough where she would have to do some serious wing flapping," Triton explain, "She'll probably just glide across, but yes you'll be flying for a minute or two."
At least he'll be on land quite safely. Elnara Aldrich Elnara grinned at Daeron. "You going to be ready for this?" she asked. "Not going to fall off?" Elrohir Aldrich He leaned over and poked her nose. "Not gonner fall," he grinned. "I hold on tight an' fry." Triton Winters "Good," Triton nodded at Tao.
Tao squealed before trotting back to take a running leap, she did have very large wings so gliding should not be at all a problem. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron held on tight and grinned, though he was scared. A griffin didn't move like a horse ... Triton Winters She spread her wings and leaped letting the wind glide her across, sometimes catching an updraft that would allow her to go a little higher. Tao enjoyed this, but she knew that flightless chick should not be up so high, so when the first moment opened itself, she landed back on the ground, on the other side of the river. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron laughed. "Fun!" he giggled. Then he looked back to the other side of the river. "T'mon!" he called. "Tome over here wif me!"

Elnara Aldrich Elnara looked at Triton and grinned. "Hope you're a strong swimmer." Then she stepped into the water. It was cold, so cold it felt it was squeezing the air from her lungs. She waded in until it came up to her neck, then pushed off with her toes and started swimming. Triton Winters Triton sighed, he didn't hate water he thought as he dipped himself into the river and shuddered a bit, forcing himself to cross. But wet fur did not feel so pleasant, nor did wet ears. Elnara Aldrich Elnara took a deep breath and dipped her head under the water. It was clear and clean, and she dove for the bottom, reaching out with her hands. She felt smugly satisfied when she touched it, then brought her feet down as well. She kicked off for the surface. Triton Winters His ears pressed tightly against his skull, not happy about being wet as he swam as fast as he could, since he wanted out of the water. It wasn't like he disliked water, he liked showers, but he didn't like that feeling. Elnara Aldrich She broke surface and took a deep breath of air, then wiped the water from her eyes and looked around, smiling. She had drifted a little downstream ... She stretched her arms out and started swimming for the far shore. Triton Winters When he did reach the surface or rather the shore, the first thing Triton did was shake the water up and tried to knock it out of his ears, because it was bugging him a great deal. He felt heavy and wet.... nope not a happy camper on that one. Elnara Aldrich She felt her feet touch bottom once more, and waded the rest of the way out. Her clothes were dripping and clinging to her. She made a face. Walking in wet clothes ... not fun. At least it was still summery weather. She would be dry soon enough. She glanced over at Triton. "You ok?" Triton Winters "I don't like swimming much," Triton muttered, "My tail feels like lead and my ears are clogged up....." Elnara Aldrich Her brows wrinkled in apology. "Sorry." She peeled the bottom of her tunic away from her skin. "At least you can take off some of your clothes if you need to," she laughed, "and still be decently clad." Elrohir Aldrich Daeron giggled. "T'alion-tôl all wet!" he said, pointing. "Nara-thêl, too!" Triton Winters "It's not your fault," Triton replied undoing the belt and throwing his over robe aside, at least he was wearing pants, thank god for that, it was in the style of a fighting gi or at least the pattern was, "We had to cross, it's just I don't like getting throughually wet like that." Elnara Aldrich "I don't know why they don't make a bridge somewhere around here," she commented. "I mean ... as a shortcut, it's not exactly popular, though it is used often enough." She squeezed some water out of her shirt. Triton Winters "Well it is quite far away from town and the time and energy it would take to maintain it might be a problem," Triton suggested taking a look around. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron looked around, then pointed up the river. "What about that bidge there?" he asked. Elnara Aldrich Elnara followed his finger and her jaw dropped when she saw the bridge that was nearly out of sight. She blinked. "I ... guess ... someone else thought there should be one, too." She bit her lip and looked back to Triton. "Sorry ... didn't know there was one."

Triton Winters Triton was nearly torn between tireness and laughter, laughter won out.
"Well it has been a long time," Triton chuckled looking over to where the bridge was. Elnara Aldrich Elnara let out her breath and allowed herself a giggle. "I guess a lot changes in six years," she agreed. She looked at the bridge again. "Though I think I'd have swum anyways," she grinned. "Just because." Triton Winters "On the way back though, we take the bridge," Triton replied.
Yes... yes he wasn't fond of cold river water not like the mertwins. Not at all. Elrohir Aldrich "Der I still getta ride?" Daeron asked eagerly. "Is fun up here!"
He ran his fingers through the fur on Tao's back. Triton Winters "Yes.." Triton said slowly taking Elnara's bag so he could give it back to her, "Tao should be fine if we ride her together."
Though putting both Daeron and Nina on the same method of transportation didn't seem like a bright idea to him. Elnara Aldrich She accepted her bag with a grin. "Thanks." She slung it over her shoulder, then looked past Tao to where her horse was standing, dripping. She raised one eyebrow. "I think I'll be walking for a while, at least until I'm dry ... and the horse." She looked into her bag to make sure everything was dry. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron was giddy. "I gets to ride'r g'iffin!" he laughed. Triton Winters "Good point, no point in getting Tao wet too," Triton murmured before nodding at Daeron, "Yes you do, but be gentle with her okay?" Elrohir Aldrich He nodded wildly, making his hair bob up and down. "I be's real carefoo," he agreed. "I be's good." Elnara Aldrich Elnara smiled. "So you're going to walk, too, then?" she asked. "It's good, it'll make you dry faster." She remembered something suddenly, and dug around in her bag. "Here," she said, holding out his knife to give it back to him. "I forgot to give it back to you earlier." Triton Winters Triton carefully folding up his over robe, before taking the knife, rearranging his things since he didn't have the shirt to hide anything up sleeves he now didn't have.
"Thanks." Elnara Aldrich She smiled. "Welcome. Shall we?" And she nodded at the forest in front of them. Elrohir Aldrich "Where we goin', Nara-thêl?" Daeron asked, leaning forward over Tao's neck. "Is we gonna go home?" Elnara Aldrich She grinned. "Absolutely." Triton Winters Triton kept quiet, after all it wasn't his home, but teh little tyke didn't need to know that, or maybe the kid already knew. He took the rope from around Tao's neck to lead her, since she might be inclined to play with just Daeron on her back.

Elnara Aldrich As they set out, Elnara found herself wondering who Daeron's parents were. If he was only four years old ... his parents could possibly be around her age. Or, the age she was supposed to be. Maybe she had known them. Elrohir Aldrich "T'alion-tol," Daeron said, leaning so far forward he was almost lying on his stomach on Tao's back, "where's'r coron'elf? See seeping?" Triton Winters "The unicorn?" Triton asked before realizing he meant Nina, "She's sleeping, she's actually very young, so she needs all the sleep she can get."
And they needed all the sanity they could get. Elnara Aldrich Elnara smiled and translated the nickname for Triton. "Coron is a ball," she explained, "and helf is fur - so when he calls her 'coronhelf' - which is how he should really be saying it - he's calling her 'furball'." She laughed. "It fits her." Young, and needed lots of sleep ... well the peppermint sleeper didn't hurt either. Elrohir Aldrich "I seep'd lots wif the mans," Daeron said quietly. "They was mean to me. Maked me hurt an' seep." Elnara Aldrich Poor kid, she thought. "How long were you with them?" she asked, wondering if she would understand his response. Elrohir Aldrich He hugged Tao's neck. "Losta moons," he answered. "Losta moons ... they tooked me when I played inna snow." Elnara Aldrich Elnara's eyes grew wide. Almost a year ... Triton Winters "So which means we're about a year's journey from home?" Triton guessed, "Or did they stop a lot?"
It was hard to tell, he was surprised they even kept the kid for a year. Elnara Aldrich His comment made Elnara laugh. "No, no, we can be home inside of a month," she giggled. "But it makes me wonder ... where they went ... and what they did to him." She watched Daeron playing with Tao. "As if they needed to break him in or something, and he just wouldn't ..." Elrohir Aldrich Daeron noticed suddenly that Triton's bag was still tied on Tao's back. Curious to know what was in there, besides the things he had already seen, he opened it up and started poking around inside. Triton Winters Nina was sleeping in Triton's bag on top of all of his things and she tossed a bit since it felt like something was moving, though she had been moving for sometime now. She giggles in her sleep so it seems. Elrohir Aldrich Daeron looked at the kirin and giggled. "Kin I wakes her up?" he asked Triton, holding the bag open for him to see. "Or does see needs her seep more?" Elnara Aldrich Elnara winced. "Please, no," she groaned. Triton Winters "Let her sleep," Triton laughed softly, "She's like a baby after all, so she needs her sleep."
He couldn't help but chuckle at the look on Elnara's face.
