Reaching out with his other hand he let loose another fire spell hoping that if he could get a hold of Kaleb or the shield that the mage wouldn't be able to counter it.

Kaleb just grinned, enjoying the challenge. He brought up his other hand and used the energy he had been channeling to form a cold shield that would remove the fire's heat and make the flames vanish.

He switched his grip on his e-mag and was about to aim another blow a Kaleb when he heard Rufus voice.
"Enough Reno." His voice snapped into the quiet around them. He'd seen what he needed to see for the moment.

Kaleb took a step back and let go of the magic he had been channeling, feeling almost disappointed that they couldn't continue longer. But then he turned around to look over at Rufus, biting his lower lip a bit as he waited for any comment that would indicate if his employer found his skills adequate or inadequate.

"Impressive for mostly a defensive skill." He walked over and stopped after he moved Reno out of his way. "You would be completely useless if we take you with us to deal with things."

Kaleb chewed on his lip a bit more, pleased that Rufus was impressed, but unsure how to take the rest of it. He just stayed quiet, fidgeting a bit more as he waited for Rufus to continue or give him further instructions.

He flipped his weapon shut and after snapping it from around his wrist and slid it into his jacket.
"You would, though, perhaps fair better when the others rather than on your own."

Kaleb nodded, even at the institute where he had studied, his skills had been put to the best use when paired with someone specializing in offensive maneuvers. He wasn't kidding when he said he was harmless, the closest thing he had to offense was shields that reflected the opponent's attacks, or an air spell designed to give him space to prepare another defense.

"I belive that means you will be accompanying Tseng should he join Reno and Rude." Their numbers weren't what they were once so that would be the option until he tempted more into their ranks.

Kaleb nodded again, and then fidgeted a bit. "S-so you think my shielding skills are good enough?" he asked hesitantly after a second or two, not sure if he should ask so bluntly, but not sure if he could handle the doubt otherwise.

"They are impressive compared to what Materia can do. Rather interesting if i do say so." It was almost said he'd already said that Kaleb would be safe from the scientific department

He stretched and leaned on Rufus shoulder. "So boss .... do i still get that treat you promised me?"
"Later." He looked at Reno for a moment before returning his attention to Kaleb. "I should perhaps have you practice with Reno more often"

Kaleb grinned before he could help himself. "I would love that," he said happily, but then seemed to deflate a bit. "But only if Reno doesn't mind, I don't want to be a bother."
