Okay, so, Lycan is short for Lycanthrope. And I know it wasn't really invented just from the movie Underworld. But after that movie came out, THEN it started to be used a lot. Hell, I bet a lot of people didn't even know that a term for werewolf was Lycanthrope. I donnoe... just one of those things that ticked me off... Sorta like how those little stereo types of vampires being gothic all the time and drinking blood while having raver parties as seen in some movies and such....
Ohhh, just to throw my two cents with the moon thing..... Sometimes I thought that the whole full moon thing was just a way to show that it was a rare shifting time span (every full moon lasts a few days a week, and only a week a month or so). Maybe every full moon would be an easy way to know when and how long to predict shiftings? If the moon DID have anything to do with shifting, well, sucks to be them if they ever visited Jupiter XD

I think I might do a study with shifters (mental, dream, physical) and their birth moons though, both in real life and lore. Would make one hell of a science project if I didn't care what would get out about my friends. I'm sure many of them want to keep it personal. And sure It would be a hell of a time on Jupiter. lol.

Dorian Requiem Azhreia Jenah Marcious_Pharoe Oh.... and I wish people would stop calling weres Lycans. .....it was a stupid movie coined phrase and now it's like the hip new label.... Just as many anthro artists hate being called furries, I hate the word Lycan. I'll shut up now *get's ready to go to sleep* ~'+.*}}i{{*.+'~
Actually, if you had read my first post in this topic, you would have seen that "lycan" is actually the most appropriate term for werewolves, simply due to etimology and the very origin of the word "lycanthrope". All it is is a shortened version, and I'm quite sure that it was not COINED in Underworld; it just simply came to the attention of more people through that medium.

Yes, but you can't call a werecat a lycan, now can you. Nor can you call a werepenguin a lycan. Were(insert non dog related animal), and you can't even try to call it a lycan. Its Weres in general, not just "werewolves". ~'+.*}}i{{*.+'~
~sigh~ I said all that in my very first post in this thread. And since this thread was originally about wereWOLVES, and the poster I was responding to was speaking about "lycan" in reference to wereWOLVES, then ... yeah.

Oh, I completely understand how you feel. Need I really mention the ramifications of The Craft? The only things that can really reconcile things like this is education. Problem is, most of the wannabes don't WANT to be educated, especially if there's even the slightest inkling that what they're so into isn't as SOOPER-UBER-KEWL as they think it is.
On a completely unrelated note, is there any way you could use a darker font? I just cannot see that pink, and it kills my (already horrid) eyes to try to read it. Thank you. heart
