I thought you read Animorphs. In one book, the brother of one that is infected (keep in mind it has been years since I last read a book.) had oatmeal for breakfast, and the Yeerk started to come out of his head. Unfortunately, the sibling couldn't help without revealing what kind of powers that person had, so some other people that had Yeerks inside them came and took him away to put the Yeerk back in.

I read a lot of them, but the series was getting long and I was getting bored.
