May 8th, 2005 Ghlyssa: Home Sweet Home
"Up we go!" Ghlyssa scooped Airyn up into her arms. "Are you hungry? Or just lonely and bored?"
They had only been settled down into the house properly for a few days, but Ghlyssa was already feeling quite at home. She was not, however, quite sure about this motherhood thing.
Airyn was so small, and so perfect, and Glee was feeling just a tiny bit out of her depth. Sunny had told her that most new mothers felt that way, that she wasn't the first new mother unsure of everything from how to hold the baby correctly, how feed it, how to change diapers...
She was managing.
Airyn stopped fussing quickly when she was picked up, pleased beyond the words she didn't have yet that she was no longer stuck in the crib. She burbled at her mother, reached out to touch the thick green hair that seemed to hang like a curtain around her whenever mom-person picked her up, grasped and pulled.
Ghlyssa winced. "Ow. That's mommy's hair. Ow!" She detached herself with some difficulty, shifted Airyn to her other arm, and discovered... that she was suddenly missing a flower.
Airyn was quite happily clutching the little blue blossom in her fist. She giggled and waved it like a flag.
Ghlyssa giggled. "I guess you can have that... it'll grow back and it won't hurt you if you eat it... but I don't think it would taste very good." She took one of the little plush bunnies from the shelf set into the living wall, and offered it instead.
Airyn blinked at the bunny, up at her mother, and decided she liked the flower better. She gurgled and waved it around some more before she decided to stick it in her mouth, because that was where everything that was vaguely interesting was supposed to go.
Yech.
Ghlyssa laughed again. "I told you it wouldn't taste good!" She took the crumpled flower and set it on the dresser. "I suppose it's time for lunch for you..."

May 9th, 2005 Riven: A Visit With Airi
Anen had visited her a few days agao and now Airi was starring at a small note laying in her lap. A letter from Riven who wanted for her to meet his daughter. His daughter? How strange ... Airi remembered that Riven was all to keen on becoming an Ancient. Why would he have a daughter?
She carefully put the paper on the table near her and floated up from the chari to look at the garden outside her window. The time written in the letter indicated that the two would be here in a few minutes. Airi had already asked Fluorine to lead the guests to her room. Now, all she could do was wait and wonder ...
Airyn made soft noises, gumming the toy of the day eagerly as her father carried her down the path to Fa'e HQ. Riven winced as she kicked a bit, then squirmed and settled into what was apparently a more comfortable position. "Be good," he told her.
"Abababebe," she responded, looking up with wide blue eyes and kicking again.
He rolled his eyes and opened the door to HQ - seeing no-one, he began to call out. "Um... Lady Airi? It's Riven, Lady Airi...?"
"Come in ... Riven" - was the quiet answer from behind the door. As Riven entered he saw a small bedroom with a large armchair facing the open window. Airi was floating in front of the window, her eyes on the two guests, her multicolored hair moved gently by the breeze - a picture of ghostly etherealness.
Riven smiled at Airi and nodded respectfully to her. "Hello, Lady. Um... how are you?" Airyn kicked again, and he quickly held her up so Airi could see. "I brought the baby... uh, our daughter. My daughter and Ghlyssa's too, I mean. Um." He felt very awkward, suddenly. "Her name is, um, Airyn." Riven said the name shyly, and wondered if she would approve.
Airyn herself squirmed to peer at Airi with wide-open blue eyes, one tentacle from her octopus plushie still crammed in her mouth. "Ah-BE," she proclaimed, though her voice was muffled.
Airi floated up to the child and looked at her curiously: "Hello Airyn." - she nodded to the baby politely. "She looks like Ghlyssa. But she has swirls like you." - she observed. "And she is not a fa'e. Why is it, then, that she was born to you both?"
"Abawrrr," Airyn babbled through the toy in her mouth, kicking both feet out energetically towards Airi. Then she stared at her toes as if fascinated by them.
Riven looked sheepish. "No, she's not... um, we... Purr-Purr's Guardian, Kamiki, she helped us... like with Kia and Taka?"
"Oh yes. Of course." - Airi nodded and pointed at the smaller chair by the window - "She must be hard to hold. Please sit down."
"Why is it that you wanted to talk to me today, Riven." - she then asked.
Riven coiled his tail and lowered himself awkwardly onto the chair - it was somewhat of a challenge to hold a baby without a proper lap, but he'd figured something out. "Um... I guess because of the baby," he said. Why HAD he come, anyway? Airi seemed as fragile and aloof as ever. He remembered the last time they'd spoken, when she'd seemed... angry. "Ghlyssa really wanted a baby, but we had to stay Fa'e... we want to become Ancients. So we can... I can do my duty still."
He felt like he was babbling, and looked down quickly at Airyn to hide his discomfiture. She looked up at him, hiccuped, then began tugging energetically at his shirt. "Bawbaaaaah."
Airi was watching the baby now. She hadn't been around many children at all so she was not sure what to do about this one. It looked like a fa'e but was human. It looked like a fa'e Ghlyssa and Riven would hvae given brith to but didn't have the powers or a destiny. At first Airi foudn that dissapointing but then she thought that this child is also not burdened with all the responcibility that came with power. This little girl, Airyn, was free of destiny, of the past. She could create her own future, and be free.
"You are such a lucky child, Airyn" - she uttered, taking the tiny hand into hers. "You are not bound by duty liek your mother and father. Like me. Your life is all your own ..." Airyn peered curiously at Airi and wrapped her fingers around one of Airi's, holding on tight. "Bbbbbbb," she gurgled, drooling a bit on the plushie. Riven grinned sheepishly at her. "I hope we can do a good job with her," he said, quietly. "Our Guardians will help us if... duty, like you said, calls us away."
Ah yes, duty. That brought to mind another thought, one that he'd been avoiding - the real reason why he'd come. Airyn had been a useful excuse. "Lady Airi, there is something else... about duty, I guess... have you noticed anything odd? Er, lately?" He looked down, and avoided her gaze.
Still being held by Airyn's little hand, Airi looked up at Riven: "I have not been feelign well and I had expended a lot of my magic to give brith to the last three fa'e, so ... I was not able to really ... notice anythign much recently. Anen has told me however that he met a man named Conrad. Have you met him before as well?"
Riven bit his lip and looked down at Airyn's hair as though it were the most interesting thing in the world. "You, um, know my duty? Last time you asked me about..." He took another deep breath. "If it was fair to keep Chaos imprisoned..."
Airi's eyes went a bit blank and she uttered in an even, emotionless voice: "Yes. What are your thoughts about it?"
Riven was about to blurt out what had happened with Chaos and the Barrier and those... things, whatever they were, that had escaped, but.... that had been months ago, hadn't it? And nothing had happened since, right? Maybe they'd all died. Or been lost. Or something. And the little part of him that squirmed with guilt whenever he remembered that incident was urging him not to say anything...
He gave in. "... nothing. Ah, I mean, er... I'm still not sure I understand what you meant, but, um... I guess I was afraid you were angry?" His voice trailed off then, and he looked down at Airyn, annoyed at himself. She giggled and slapped the drool-soaked plush on his arm. Lovely.
Airi was quiet for a little while lookign down, probably tryign to reign in her emotions on the subject. When she looked up she was the usual Airi again - peacefull, serene, enigmatic. "I am not angry at you, Riven. I have considered your duty and I understand why you carry it out still. You are afraid. The one's who have created you so long ago also were afraid. And I have to admitt that I, too am afraid of him."
"But look inside your heart. Do you think that imprisoning anyone for such a long time is right?"
Riven shook his head; Airyn caught sight of the bright feather swinging above her and made a grab for it. Fortunately, she missed, but she blew an irritated raspberry at Riven and gummed the plushie ferociously. "Mrr."
"That's what I don't understand," Riven said, after re-settling Airyn. "I really don't... how is it fair to... Chaos wants to destroy everything, I know that. Is Chaos being free worth more to you than... than everything?" He gave her a look of frustration, mixed with confusion... and a little fear.
"I understand the danger, but eventually I hop that there will be enough power to stop Chaos and so to undo a great wrong. You see, without Chaos the Universe has lost the freedom it once had. Because Chaos is hidden away, the worlds are stable, the magic few and far between and the gods only exist if they are worshiped. This Universe is stiffled by the laws of science and the rule of mortals." - Airi whispered quietly, not sure whater she should be sharing such information with the one who guards him.
"... at least the universe exists," Riven mumbled. "I... I am sorry, Lady Airi. Maybe you know something I can't understand, because I... I just don't. But I'll think about it," he added.
He got up off the chair so quickly that Airyn let out a loud "Abah!" of surprise. "Thank you for letting us come and visit you." His voice was full of regret, but also confusion - it was obvious that try as he might, the Fa'e really couldn't comprehend what Airi was saying...
Quickly, before she could say anything else that would give him sleepless nights, Riven left, Airyn peering wide-eyed over his shoulder at Airi before the door closed.

May 15th, 2005 RP Log: The Fa'e HQ
Silver was lounging at a table, his seat propped back against the wall, his hindpaws up on the table as he stared into the distance, lost in thought, a glass of juice in his hand.
Ghlyssa peeked into the HQ, carrying Airyn over her shoulder. The baby was mumbling through a mouthful of stuffed bunny-ear, quite content with the way the world seemed to be at the moment.
"Oh!" Glee blinked at Silver, and smiled. "Hi. I haven't seen you in a little while, I guess."
Head tilting to one side, Silver swung his feet off the chair. "Havn't seen you in a while either Glee. And who's the adorable little one?" He smiled a little, setting down his glass, and standing, pulling out a chair for Ghlyssa.
"This is... this is my daughter. Mine and Riven's." Ghlyssa blushed a little. "Her name is Airyn Svrellia."
Airyn blinked at Silver, and giggled. He was like a big teddy bear! How neat was that? She proceeded to tell him so in babbles, managing to take the bunny out of her mouth long enough to do so.
"Congratulations! You and Riven, huh?" He gave a chuckle, holding out a finger for Airyn to grab if she wanted, babbling back at her. "You two will make excellent parents. But.." He stopped a moment, thinking. "She isn't fa'e is she? You went to the gmfc?" He smiled a little, winking at Glee.
"We did," Ghlyssa nodded, rather glad she didn't have to explain it; she wasn't sure how it worked, herself. "She's... she's human. We have a house and a daughter and we're going to get married... eventually. When we're not so busy."
Airyn blinked at this big fuzzy finger, and seized onto it in delight. It was fuzzy, just like her blankets or her stuffed animals!
Laughing a little, he wiggled the finger a little, like it was a small animal trying to escape. "Sounds like you've got everything thought out, hmmm?" Silver just gave another laugh. "Children are always good for the soul. They bring a sense of wonder like nothing else can. She may keep you busy, but in the end, it will all be worth it, ne?"
"Oh, I've been so happy... you have no idea." Ghlyssa closed her eyes, simply beaming.
Airyn didn't dare let go of her prize, and watched Silver's finger wiggle in her hands with innocent joy. Did it taste good, though? That was, after all, the ultimate test of all things soft and fuzzy. She squirmed foward and attempted to gum on Silver's finger.
"You show it. Your almost radiant my friend." He gives a small chuckle as Airyn gummed at his finger. "Do i taste good little one?" He wiggled the finger a little, being very careful of the nail on the end. it was a dull point, but if he wiggled it wrong, it could hurt her, which he definatly didn't want.
Airyn let go of Silver's finger and pulled back, bothered by the texture. Hairy was not the same as fuzzy, and not quite as good to chew on. She screwed up her face miserably for a moment, then popped the bunny's ear into her mouth again.
"Do I really show it? You can tell that?" Ghlyssa blinked, confused by this claim.
"Aww, guess i don't taste as good as mr rabbit there, huh?" Looking up at Glee, he gave a wink. "M'lady, your in love, and its obvious to the entire world. Whats more, since i'm in love myself, i recognize the signs." He stood, heading for the kitchen. "You want anything to drink of snack on while I'm up? Or how about something for Airyn?"
Ghlyssa laughed quietly. "I didn't know it showed.... if you wanted to get some juice or something for Airyn... apple juice, maybe? If there is any."
Airyn paused mid-chew, blinking at Silver. The teddy bear was going away? Why? Just because she had decided he didn't taste good?
Silver chuckled, pouring out some more fruit punch for himself, and making up a bottle of apple juice for Airyn, walking back over and handing the bottle to Ghlyssa, sitting down himself. "Yeah, it shows. Not that its a bad thing mind you." He gave another wink, leaning back a bit. "So how is Riven taking to fatherhood?"
Ghlyssa shifted in her seat. "He adores Airyn... It's so funny to see him with her. I don't think either of us really know what we're doing..." She moved Airyn in her arms; the child was once again staring at Silver, happy he'd returned. "Do you want some apple juice?" She offered the bottle.
Airyn knew what bottles meant! They meant good yummy things. She grasped at the bottle and sucked happily, her eyes still trained firmly upon the teddy bear man.
Silver just gave a grin. "Oh, i can imagine. Riven's so innocent in his outlook on the world. Still, i'm sure he makes a wonderful father" Chuckling again, silver made a couple silly faces at Airyn, his ears swivling around.
Airyn giggled through the apple juice, and dribbled a little. Glee dabbed at it with her sleeve. "He is a very wonderful father," she agreed quietly. True, he was a little bit sketchy on the diapers-and-feeding bit, but she wasn't much better, either.
Chuckling a little, silver leaned back, sighing. "Heh. Sometimes I almost wish I could have kids of my own. But, well, I have duty to think of, and I don't know if I could be that great a father. Ah well." Silver closed his eyes, smiling a little.
"I know. I have my own duties, and so does Riven. I think you'd be a good father," Ghlyssa said abruptly. "I think you probably know more about what to do with babies than I do."
Airyn burbled and pushed the bottle away, satisfied and rather more in the mood for bunny-ear at the moment. "Bubabbeeba," she said at Silver.
Blushing a little, Silver looked down at his paws, shaking his head. "Na, my hands are to bloodstained to raise a child." He gave a crooked smile, then looked at Airyn, babbling back at her, his ears moving around randomly to amuse her."
Airyn squealed delightedly. She could watch this teddy bear for hours, she was sure!
Ghlyssa tilted her head, peering at the leftover apple juice. "I suppose I wouldn't know about that," she admitted. "That's not something... I have a lot of experience with."
Silver gave a weak smile. "Its not something i'm proud of, but, i suppose, it comes as part of the job of being the guardian of the fa'e. There may come a day when I have to kill someone to protect one of you, and I'm not allowed to hesitate. Unfortunatly, i learned this early in life. Its haunted me ever since. But if i have to, I can kill again." He looks up, smiling again. "Sorry to go off like that. I've just been thinking to much I suppose."
"It's okay. Sometimes I think I think too much about things, too. I never had to kill anyone, though. I... I really don't think I could..." She shook her head. "I'm sorry."
Airyn babbled at Silver, alarmed by his sudden bad mood.
Silver shook his head. "Ah, but see, i'm here so you don't have to." He gave a chuckle, going back to making faces at Airyn. "and don't be sorry. this is the path I chose for myself. I'm content with the lot life has given me."
Airyn squealed, delighted once more. This was the best teddy bear, ever, without a doubt.
Ghlyssa nodded, slowly. "I'm glad, then, and I hope you don't have to, either." She shuddered, disturbed at the very thought.
Silver shrugged, and then smiled a little. "Thank you for the thought Glee. I hope the same thing myself. Unfortunately, i've got to go check on the club to make sure everything's in working order while one of my co-owners is out of town. Still, was nice seeing you again, and nice to meet Airyn." chuckling a little, he kissed Airyn on the forehead, and then waved goodbye, hugging Glee before he slipped out the door.

Monday 23rd, 2005 Ghlyssa: Gardening
The soil near the glade was pleasantly dark and fragrant, the sort that Ghlyssa loved to sink her toes into. It was teeming with life, with the potential for life.
It would make a good garden, Ghlyssa had decided.
So, in a patch of earth near the house, she had spent some time persuading the grass to move elsewhere so that she could plant a few things in it. She had loosened up the earth, and was, with a sense of great accomplishment, planting radishes.
She had already planted some carrots, and some marigolds, tomatoes, and some poppies and sunflowers. There wasn't really any organization; things were planted wherever Ghlyssa thought they wanted to be.
Airyn was nearby, on a blanket than had been laid out on the grass. She babbled happily to her octopus, wrapped happily in her bunny-ear towel. She was full, her diaper was dry, and the sun was warm. Life, for Airyn, was good, as good as life could possibly be for someone who was not toilet trained.
She babbled, but she watched her mother intently.
It was very peculiar, this whole putting-things-into-the-dirt.
Ghlyssa sat back on her heels, peering at her haphazard garden plot. "We'll have lots of good thing to eat," she told Airyn, "and we won't even have to go to the store."
"Um-baaah." Airyn saw this as a summons and crawled forward on her stomach; Ghlyssa brushed her hands off on her skirt and scooped up Airyn, who giggled.
Glee pressed her free hand to the ground, eyes closed; sprouts sprang up. A few were weeds; Glee just made sure they didn't harm her intended plants, and let them be.
Weeding in the traditional sense was out of the question.
Airyn squealed in delight. "Bu-bu-bu-bu-ba!" Ghlyssa let her down on the ground; Airyn grabbed at a plant and pulled.
"Oh no! No, Airyn, give that back to me." Distressed, Glee wrenched the sprout from her daughter's tight fist, and replaced it in the earth. It was a little crushed and slightly wobbly, but... with any luck, it would recover.
Airyn screwed up her face for a moment, and began to wail; she had lost her wonderful new prize, this wonderful green thing, and she didn't even get to find out if it was any good to eat! Unfair!
"Oh, don't cry, don't cry! Please, Airyn, don't cry."
Airyn kept screaming, reaching for the garden in great distress. Glee made a grab for the octopus. "Here, Airyn. See? This is much better."
She hesitated, sniffed, and began to cry again, though perhaps with not quite as much gusto as previously.
Glee got up and bounced Airyn gently in her arms. She tried reasoning. "If you pull out all my garden, what will we eat?"
This, unsurprisingly, did not work.
"Please, Airyn. Um. Look!"
Ghlyssa reached out to the nearest tree branch that emerged from the house. A few new leafs unfurled under her fingers. Airyn blinked at this, and giggled.
"Isn't that much nicer?" Ghlyssa sighed. She pulled a flower form her own hair--no harm in picking that--and tucked it behind Airyn's ear.
Babies were... complicated.

BackdatedGhlyssa's DiaryGhlyssa Diary Riven's, well... Riven's gone.
He said he needed to think. Um. I wished him luck, but it means that me and Airyn are going to have to be alone for a while. I already miss him a lot.
The Earthkeeper is used to being alone. The Earthkeeper is always alone. Ghlyssa isn't. I'm used to have people around me. I like it, when there's me, and Riven, and Airyn. It's nice. It's perfect.
Sunny looked funny at me when I told her about Riven going. I think she's worried. She won't say about what. She said she was sure Riven would come back, eventually, if he said so, but... I'm not sure she believed it...
He is coming back, right?

June 14th, 2005 Session: Losing and Finding
Riven almost slunk into the small clearing in front of the house, hiding behind trees, flitting quickly from one trunk to the next, Biome following. The twin dragons' claws dug deep gouges in the moss as they leapt after their master.
"Why are youyou so worried?" they asked as Riven stopped behind one tree for a moment, leaning back against the trunk and closing his eyes.
"Because... I didn't mean to be gone this long," the spirit Fa'e mumbled.
It had been easy to slip away, after one last nightmare broke his resolve... one last nightmare of being trapped, not within the Spirit Realm, but here in the Glade, unable to break free as Chaos ravaged the world around him.
Ghlyssa had understood, he thought, but he hadn't meant to be gone this long. He'd told her, of course he had told her he was leaving. He LOVED her. They had kissed; she had wished him luck in finding what he sought, and then he and Biome had gone, heading out into the woods where silence and peace could hopefully be found.
It had been too easy to stay away for so long, away from Ssala's demands, from Airyn's insistent babble, from Ghlyssa's gentle kisses.
Now, two weeks later, he was coming back, but he wasn't at all sure what reception he'd find. He was almost scared to go inside.
"Something isis at the door," Biome observed, trundling over and picking up a small squashy pink bunny.
Riven blinked, then followed, fists clenched. Reluctantly, he approached wrinkled his nose at the note. "Ala...?" The name wasn't familiar, but the present seemed okay.
The spirit Fa'e worked up his confidence, then floated through the door without making a sound. And Airyn was there in the living room, happily wriggling around on her blanket in the living room, a teething ring in her mouth. Her eyes lit up when she saw him.
"Ah-DADADADADADADA~" she burbled loudly, and Riven's eyes widened.
"Shh! Airyn... argh..." He gave her the bunny in hopes that it would quiet her down - he needed time to think, time to think, but he'd HAD so much time to think, how could he need more?
Airyn mumbled in satisfaction, and discarded the teething ring in favor of the rabbit. She stuffed the bunny's ears into her mouth and began to chew.

Ghlyssa peered around the corner from the next room; she'd just left Airyn there for a minute, and the sudden outburst had startled, and slightly worried her.
She stared for a moment, and dropped the diaper she'd been carrying.
"Dadadadada," Airyn burbled happily through a mouthful of rabbit ear.
Ghlyssa picked up the diaper, twisting it in her hands. "Hello, Riven," she said, her voice small and far away. "I was..."
She didn't know what to say. She wanted to hug him, kiss him, scream at him, burst into tears, everything all at once. Glee scooped Airyn up into her arms, seeking some sort of comfort; Airyn reached for her father excitedly.
"I was beginning to wonder if you were coming back," Glee managed to choke out.

Riven looked down at the moss-covered floor; behind him, Biome quietly nosed the door open and flowed past them quiet as a breeze, heading for the kitchen.
"I... had to think..." Riven said, weakly. Oh, it had been too easy to lose count of the rhythm of days and nights, especially since he didn't have to worry about food. "Why would I leave you and not come back? I wouldn't do that... right?" He reached out to her, but stopped halfway, looking at Ghlyssa with uncertainty in his eyes.

"You could've... you could've... I don't know... wrote a letter or called or even told Sunny, I don't know!" Glee took a moment to try to compose herself, breathing hard, her voice shrill. "You.. you could have been dead, or in trouble, or just... forgotten about me... or..." She wavered on the edge of tears, unable to speak.
Airyn was growing distressed; Riven would not pick her up, and now her mother was getting upset, and while she certainly didn't know why, she knew she didn't like that at all. "Da-DADADA!"

"But... there wasn't a phone! Or a mailbox, and I didn't see your Guardian," Riven protested, feeling that was unfair. "Just trees... lots and lots of trees. And a lake, once," he added. "I think you would have liked it?"
He reached out and gently took Airyn from her; the baby whapped him on the nose with the drool-soaked bunny and tugged hard on the feather in his hair. "A-MAmamamama," she said, tugging again, then waving both hands at Ghlyssa.

"You could've... well, you could've done something." Ghlyssa stared miserably at the floor, hugging herself. "It doesn't matter if I would've liked it, because I wasn't there. I was here. With Airyn. And we were by ourselves."
She added, after a moment, "For a really long time."

Airyn TUGGED.
"Ow!" Riven pulled away; the feather came off in her hand.
"Bah-ah," she said, and stuffed it in her mouth.
"Airyn, no... NO, give that back," Riven said, and tried to extract it from her mouth, but she flailed at him. Finally, he managed to pull it out. The core was cracked in half, and the whole thing was coated in sticky baby drool.
Riven sighed. "I'm... I'm sorry. I lost track. And when I realized I was almost scared to come back... I.. I don't know. But I love you?" The last was offered in a very small voice.
He sank down to the floor and put Airyn down. She scrabbled at his clothes for a minute, then scooted over to the discarded bunny and began gnawing on it again.
