to understand what i mean, check out stuff by Suicide Commando (like Massaker,) Frontline Assembly (SYL's Devin Townsend did guitar work on Hard Wired and Millenium,) Velvet Acid Chist (Speedball OD,) Venetian Snares, Otto Von Schriach, Aphex Twin (especially Come to Daddy.) these aren't metal bands, but some of the stuff they do is pretty ******** "metal" in spirit. check em out. or don't.

To me metal is music, an art form if you will but also a lifestyle for normal people. Metal is not just listening to the heaviest music, with the most distortion but also living to support it to help it grow and gain respect from those who don't understand what it is... It's also a lot about brother hood as rap and a lot of other musical styles are all for me and none for anyone else but in metal bands help each other to grow they give out constructive criticisms. It's about having fun while competing and growing with other people rather than just seeing who's better than the other... It's also a lot like punk in the sense that they don't really see rules as important because rules would just inhibit its growth making harder for it to expand... so yeah I could continue but I think I'll stop here...

metal is a way to express yourself, with limited rules on how you express yourself. it is a way of constructively working out problems and anger, and is highly creative. it can be individualistic, with people doing things on their own terms, but it also is a closely knit community where true metalheads help each other out. it is both music and a philosophy.

Metal used to be my life... then I realised that there were so many other things that was worthed living for... like myself, those who love me and who I love, and life... life's worth living for the heck of it whee
Now, to me, metal is a music genre that has fullfilled most of my expectations regarding music: great musicianship, great cultural combinations, great skills in writting along as in performing, and I respect this genre A LOT for what it has accomplished and for what it meant to me in the past.
Still, now I can enjoy it, but I realise I don't need it to sustain myself... I can reserve that to my own psyche.

to me metal is the music i love! and the music my friends love. so its a friendship thing and great music at the same time biggrin

Metal is a genre of music. Thats all.
Music cannot save you, music cannot be your life.
Any music is considered an art form.
Art is catagorized by something that emits deep emotional feeling.
So basically any sound is art.
Hell, its not even that great of a music genre.
Most metal is very generic vocally talentless.
Rap is where the real vocal talent exists.

Rap is where the real vocal talent exists. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Rap! Ill admit alot of metals vocals arnt that great but rap? They can rhyme...so what! Fat Joe for example he can say crack a whole bunch of times for no reason....there is no talent there.
