"Are you sure?" Laceration, cheekbone, possibly infected, perhaps embedded with ressidue from the incidents cause - possible staunching inacted, blood lost... The thoughts came without beckon as she continued eyeing the napkin with a bit of apprehension. Napkins were no substitute for bandages, especially not when said bandages had been exposed to an agent that would reduce the pain. At least, that was her opinion, if the man wanted to use a napkin - than let him. She only withdrew her hand, the question causing her to snap from her analysis of the injury and towards the fact that they were still in a public position. "At a party, I suppose. I certainly wasn't invited, but than again, no one seems to mind me being here so..." It sounded quite foolish, but as it was the first thing to spill from her lips, she did not readily retract it, at least not until given reason.

Oh, the woman was so very lucky that it was the Kestrel that she'd decided to interfere with. Because the Kestrel, frankly, didn't care. There was, actually, a mild hiss of annoyance when she approached, taking the attention of the bleeding man away. But nevermind, he wasn't going to cling to his prize, and there were plenty of others that he could talk to.

Still, he'd answer their question, first. Why not?

"Just a holiday party for the Kin." Savius gave another shrug his wings rustling mildly with the movement. Their surprise seemed silly, but who was he to talk? Some people grew up sheltered, and didn't manifest from birds or wands. "No weirder than anything else that happens on Gaia."

"'course no one minds. There's at least a few unbonded Kin here. They're probably hunting."

That said, he turned away from the almost interesting man and the woman that had taken him. Where was Xaxis anyway?

Oh. He headed toward the Raven at a mild pace, memories of their sleepover warm in his mind. Besides, there was Jer'ain, and her present.

Oblivious as ever, Diacyn had not been paying attention to all the fuss over the bleeding Lyle, or Nikel, even his "mortal enemy" Savius. He vaguely considered them (Savius = probably can't fight him here, Nikel = food, thank you very much, that's an ugly outfit, and Lyle = dude, who beat YOU up?), but: There was FOOD to be had. His two favorite things in life were Iamel and Food, and he had a ready supply of both.

As usual, food came first. He was currently engrossed in attempting to tear the ear off an entire flattened raccoon. It was not a sight for the faint of heart, or stomach.

Taylor, on the other hand, was more then a little worried, and more then a little considering slipping out the back. First attacked by shadows, then whisked off to an intergalactic spa, and now a party. With roadkill? She was almost getting used to wierdness. Almost.

"Um, are these alcoholic?" she asked the man- woman- who could TELL under that mask and dress?- who offered her a cocktail. She was glad her lizard mask covered her cheeks, because they were bright red. The costume was definetely NOT family-friendly. What kind of party WAS this?

((All done~!))

Luis ignored the dead animals laid out on the table with holly leaves framing their smashed figures. He ignored the wings, the cat ears, the masks, the much too short french maid outfit. He set the last tray down inbetween a stuffed pig and a rotting oposum. The oposum looked up at him with vacant eyes the consitancy of jelly. A white film had collected on the surfface of the soft tissue, and a clear liquid was seeping out of the socket. Luis swallowed hard. Oposums were easily excitable, and often knocked themselves out in panic attacks. Playing dead. In a few hours, they would wake up again and go about their daily routine, as if nothing had happened.

A large raptor flew from the rafters and began picking at the dead animal, tearing open the flesh with its sharp talons. The scavenger, like the rest of the animals crawling through the room, seemed to be enjoying itself. Luis managed a half smile. He didn't feel so well.

The duck pulled at her chariots hair, making his vision blur as his eyes roved in their well-attatched sockets, searching for a spot to focus on. Outside. Luis had the pressence of a tablecloth. He was underappreciated and often got wrapped up in himself. Not that she wanted to drink punch in the first place.

The duck enjoyed quite a different flavour of treat.

Outside, footsteps. One, two, three. A crowd. Luis stuck close to the table, picking up a raw oyster with two fingers, he delicately directed it into the birds mouth. The oyster's slick and lifeless body swam out of Luis' grasp with a boneless squish. A human acquired taste. A sea duck staple.

One, two, three. The animal stopped abruptly and held up his scarlet hand. A few "concerned" characters circling round like vultures above a carcass. Waiting to see if it moved. Kin. She slid the word back and forth in her head like a hard candy. Something moved. Bowed. Socialized. But the duck enjoyed a different type of meat, so she merely looked on with mild interest. For there were many more interesting Matters at hand.

A scarlet Matter had His attention. Blood trickled down his face in little inlets beneath his skin. Ba-bump Ba-bump. The living flesh. The blood spreading like ink onto the paper towel. Underneath the blood fastmoving, quickspreading was a face. Just a papercut.

Something bubbled over inside his head, pouring forth onto the floor. Sliding through his skin. Ba-bump, ba-bump, it went.

Luis felt sick.

There was something about the masked figures that seemed . . . off. For everyone whom entered, for all the guardians of death, the kin, the companions, the unknowing. For all the birds that hid high above in the rafters, for those that watched the proceedings far below, there was something a little different about the two guests that entered the party.

For starters, they were twins in appearance. Two thick black robes covered their bodies and figures. The black fabric draped over their faces, hiding what masks they might (or might not) wear. Both held a small scythe, crimson liquid dripping from the razors edge. Be it fake or real, one couldn't tell and somehow, one really didn't dare ask.

Twin grim reapers, oh the irony at the thought. Linked arm in arm, there was nothing to distinguish the figures save the lone fingers that wrapped tight around scythe. Were they human? Possibly.

Were they invited? One couldn't say.

Silent, the pair stood at the door way, investigating the scene. Was this worth their time? Was this where they needed to be. . ?

Yes. Yes of course.

Silently approving, the two figures seperated to mingle with the new figures. One decided to mingle amongst the chattering crowds, while the other decided to join a small group of nobodies near the dance floor.

Whoever they were, there was a presence about them that caused a small wave in the overall happiness of the evening.

There was a disturbance in the air, the subdued quiet before the storm. The lion-faced man, dressed in gold and silver, felt it. There was something . . . . off.

Something that didn't feel a hundred percent right.

A look up, a glance around the room. The happy visitors and content Kin seemed oblivious. The chattering guests, the drifting dancers, nothing seemed out of place.

Hnn. Perhaps he was being too paranoid.

((Feel free to ignore this. Unless you're JoJo/Shanuh/Nikel/Kirwan. . . life is good. x3 Shanuh's just being a teensy bit silly. . . . perhaps. Insert introduction of metaplotness here. Guardians MAY do a double take if they notice said Grim Reapers, but it's nothing they're going to focus on or be surprised about.))

With Amber gone, and the duck doing her own thing, Xaxis contemplated his next move. There was Kin to greet - something about pretending to play human disturbed the raven. He didn't want to be an intern anymore, for now, he wanted to be around those like him. Those with wings, those with an understanding of life and living, those who knew the flavor of death.

With everyone hidden behind masks, it was a bit difficult to tell who was who. Some felt similar, but he couldn't place the who or what. Those like Riycan, whom hadn't returned to visit the shop, were all but strangers. Where their more that would arrive this day. . .?

Perhaps. Perhaps.

Magenta eyes were drawn, of course, to a far too familiar figure. For representing the smallest raptor in the avian kingdom (or at the very least one of them) Savius as a teenager was anything but small. Broad shoulders and height, and a cool, disengaging presence that somehow stood out amongst the rest.

His wings, of course, were a dead give away. The soft thistle blues, blacks and maroons proved that the elegantly dressed warrior was noneother than Savius.

A smile, genuine, and another sniffle. Fingers reaching up, the unjangly Xaxis pushed up his feather rimmed glasses. "Well aren't you two a pair!" From the old-fashioned elegance on Savius, to the mobster boss of Jer'ain, the raven couldn't help but admire the two. More to Jer'ain than the kestrel, Xaxis gave an approving nod at the girls choice. "Not that my words mean much of anything, but I approve whole heartedly of your choice in clothing."

There was something charming about Savius sibling, so polite and helpful, dressed to kill. All she needed was a tommy-gun and the girl would be set! Leave it to Lithle and Savius, of course, to provide it~!

With the nearness of his most dear friend, Xaxis couldn't help but be pleased. It was only a year previous that his friend had perched upon his shoulder as an avian, and the two had chattered about the world.

How things surely did change.

Lyle nodded to this Amber character as she insisted upon reassuring his health, a sense of 'trust me, really, I'm fine, sweetheart' coming across his brow in the lightest way. "I'm quite sure, thanks." And she took her hand back, which was good; he had either his awkward and underused left hand or his primary hand, the right, which was preoccupied by having its fingers tainted in his own blood. Pleasant. Definitely a good thing she'd withdrawn that hand - it would be really quite disgusting for both of them.

The nurse and the, uh, other thing with the mask, the wings, and the mobster girlfriend said two very similar things at two very similar times. All Lyle could tell from it was that he was in a party - something about Kin, something about not being invited. Had the Gentleman not left so very quickly Lyle would have asked about 'Kin' and maybe the fact that everyone had wings - but the Gentleman had, and Lyle couldn't. A party made perfect sense to him, though he had no alternatives to make less sense [undereducation was never very beneficial].

Two somethings walked around him and put him back into the state of mind where he realized that s**t, could I be any more in the way? He looked towards the pair to apologize but stumbled over his words; really, he supposed the hoods and such were fine, given the party as it was with birdpeople and dresses on gals and suits on boys and sometime dresses on boys and suit on gals. What had caught his attention, though, was the very familiar viscous substance spread about their gleaming weapons. Ah, he recognized what that stuff was now - it was coming out of his cheek, and now he began to look back at the squirrel dinner and think maybe that roast chipmunk mightn't be too terrible, really.

It was with that confirmation that Amber nodded and turned away, deciding that she need not coddle an adult into submitting to her medical practices.

"Please excuse me." And nothing more. She only wandered away from him and back towards her location, only to find her previous companion had not waited behind.

Ah well, the girl looked around for him for a few moments, but catching glimpse of his predetermined location, she decided that now would be a good time to sample some of the provided delicacies and meander over the whole matter of what in the world these people meant by 'Kin'. Was it a family reunion? Amber slowed her step as she came upon another small crowd, and she looked to see what similarities she could find. Well...it didn't take a genius, but it was quickly surmised that no one looked quite alike, but all of these people apparently had either

A. walked in, univited, like her: or

B. had some sort of feather fetish.

Almost all of them seemed to have at least one feather hanging out at some odd angle, if not more. Perhaps Kin simply met a group of over obsessed bird lovers?

Obsessed was right. A brow gently arched itself as she turned her attentions to the free flying creatures. Song bird, Raptors, Shore Birds, and Mountain birds...none of these things really belonged together, at least not in the same area, but the laws of nature appeared to have simply melted away, as though some one had told Mother Nature to take a night off so that this event could be held. Not even the laws of man held taunt, for some of the birds openly associated themselves within the personal space of, what she assumed to be, humans, including herself.

One had perched itself upon the table nearest to her and only inclined its head as though to ask, Why?, Why was she here?, Why did she think she was above something as graceful as he (or she)?

Surely no human girl could outmanuver an avian.

Amber glared slightly at the impertinent (in her own mind anyways) bird and dismissed the look with a slight shrug for comfort and a snatch of whatever it was provided. It looked an awful lot like cranberry, so she gave no more thought to it than she would a fruit at home, popping it into her mouth and watching distant feathery fiends and friends mingle.

Gam was people watching. He was even attempting to be subtle, it wasn't working but he was trying. He twisted on of the feathers hanging from a string Anna had glued to his mask. She'd plucked them from his wings. He'd have to pay her back for that later. Shaking his head to clear it he shifted his wings and leaned back against the wall his arms crossed in front of him. He had only been in the shop a few days before being sold to Anna and hadn't gotten a chance to get to know the other birds very well and now none of them were birds. Strangely enough he recognized how they felt though they looked different.

Anna had wandered off to get punch and was returning rather akwardly trying not to trip on her long skirts. She managed to reach Gam without spilling and handed him a cup. She leaned one shoulder against the wall beside her 'charge' and was silent for a moment before it was obvious Gam wasn't going to speak. "Cheer up grumpy guss. Go and socialize." She pushed him forward with a teasing grin on her pretty face.

Gam stuck his tongue out but did as she told him. He was in a too small suit and a fancy mask. He knew when he was beat. There was a man he thought he knew from somewhere. He watched Shanuh with a furrowed brow and subconsciously wandered towards him.

Kat was just used to fox's hating cats. Her late - Well yes it was a part fox racoon thing. There child? More fox then she liked. Shrugging she offerd small explanation, "I was just curious as my son- His father was part fox- Is... More fox then anything else and doesn't seem like he'll manage the power of speach. He just-" She cut of when blood was mentioned. Gave a heartiful sniff and whirled around. Saw who it was from and shrugged again turning slightly back to D.S.

D.S. swiveled her ears at the mention of the blood but did little else. The odd creatures that were in the room could handle themselves. "Part fox...?" She questioned. That meant the boy would be part cat. That was an odd mix indeed. "In order for him to learn it, he should talk with a fox... " She suggested lightly with a shake of her head. "Otherwise he'll never understand it." Socalizing wasn't so bad after all... even if it was with a cat.

Kat grimced.. Maybe it wouldn't be to much damage to say 'exactly' what the child was.. "Well, He's actually part fox, cat, fallen angel, elemental elf, racoon, robin and somehow he's got love in his soul.." She muttered the last little bit. Then her ears perked, "You mean? He needs to be -taught- how to talk in both laugages?" She gave a tiny groan. "His dad is never around and he's the fox." She gave a snort shagged a cup of punch and hopped it had alcohol in it. "Sorry, its, I just dont really get to-" She paused, "Talk to other foxes." She grimced a little still not totally at ease with D.S. "I don't know anyone who could help me there!" She sighed again and took another gulp of punch.

She rose a silver eyebrow at the mention of how many things the poor kid was mixed with. "Uh... I don't even want to know... " She gave a nonchlant shrug. "I don't talk to cats much either..." Sniffing it first, she took a cup as well and sipped it. OK, that was NOT human punch... With a slight cough she put it down and picked at her road kill. A flick of her tail showed her slight annoyance.

She sighed. She REALLY needed her 'medication' if she was going to do this. "How old is the kid?" The sleeve of her T-shirt slid over her arm as she reached for another plate revealing what looked to be a mulitude of needle marks. From the look of it, D.S. was a drugie.

Kat held back a giggle at D.S. when she picked up the cup of punch. Not a good idea to piss of this one she figured. "He's about 1 and a half, He curently makes screach-growl noise's that sounds kinda like a cry..." As D.S moved to grabsome more food her shirt slipped back and revealed what looked like needle marks, shrugging Kat asked "You have a run in with stinger tree or? something?"((Stinger trees are plants with 'heart' shapped leaves that have sharp needle like thorns all over them)) She tried to soud humourus, humor was more her nature and she liked to joke about things to make people feel more comfortable. Or make herself relax a little.

(Thanks for the explination xd )

One and half... The fox debated it for a moment then nodded. "He might be trying fox..." She mused out loud before glancing down at her arm. With a slight growl she shoved the sleeve down. "Stinger tree?" She questioned then actually broke in a small, almost unnatural looking, smile. This cat wasn't so bad...

"Its a medication I take..." She said as though that explained the entire reason for the marks, though the word medication was stressed.

Matsuo had a gift. He had an uncanny ability to stumble upon parties or promos for parties that attributed rather heavily to his lifestyle. One may argue that had he not been quite so gifted his life would not be spiralling so out of control. Of course anyone saying that to Matsuo's face would be scoffed and promptly added to his ignore list, a list that was growing at an alarming rate these days; Matsuo was proud of his gift and quite content with his life.

As such, it had been during one of his leisurely strolls through the streets of the city that he had come across the poster on the wall of the Birdcage; it was a purely by chance, a stroll meant to shirk responsibilities and most definately not to try and converse with that impossible, condescending but inhumanely beautiful shopkeeper. A party? A masquerade no less, with a Christmas theme! Matsuo's mind had gone wild with ideas for an appropriate costume to wear.. although Matsuo's idea of appropriate deviated rather severely from the majority of the world.

It was because of this that he showed up at the location (tardy as he usually was... all the better to make an impression) as a candy cane. At least that was what he was saying his costume was. To the casual observer even that could be hard to decipher. Red leather boots covered his legs to his knees with his thighs only covered from the elements by a two inch thick red ribbon that wound up each one, over the red short shorts he was wearing and up over his chest to tie at his neck in a bow. He had striped gloves from his hands up to mid arm and since technically all the important bits were out of sight, to Matsuo it was appropriate garb for a party. He had allowed himself a red sanata jacket for warmth while walking, but as he stood outside the apartment complex, wondering if he had found the right place (it seemed rather shabby to be associated with the likes of that beautiful shopkeeper) he shrugged off the warm garment and wrapped a red ribbon over his eyes in lue of a full mask.

Only one way to find out...

Stepping forward he reached for the door, opening it up to slip inside, more than a little amazed to see how his preconceptions were quickly forgotten in lue of the festive beauty inside... Of course he'd never admit that he was wrong about the place, not that anyone really knew what he had been thinking beforehand. Following the noise he came down to the room where it seemed the main party was taking place, he paused a moment at the door, taking in the sight of everything around him when a familiar lanky body and set of wings caught his eye, a slow grin crossing his face. 'This could be interesting...' He thought as he slowly sauntered over.
