Yeah hedgehogs are quite amazing. At the start they will be shy and in fact you are supposed to leave them alone so they can adjust to their new environment. When you feel your hedgie is comfortable with his/her new home then try positive handling for about 20 minutes every day. The more positive human experience they have the more trusting and sociable they become. It does take time to get them to warm up to you but when they do it’s a great achievement in deed. Handling does become easier with time and the shyness will fade more and more. My summer has been busy and I have been away a lot lately and my mother has looked after my Nettle. I notice without constant handling he became a bit unsocial but when I start the process over he always comes around. Good Luck!
