it's simply read as "holic"
the holic probably stands for... well, Yuko's clients usually have these kinds of... habits, right? for example.. (let's use Yuko as an example XD)
Yuko loves to drink alcohol, so she's an alcoHOLIC... that's probably how the title came to be XD
i have the xxxHOLiC movie on DVD... it's cool! (though i was surprised/shocked/scared at one part of the movie.... XD)
and about the first post in this thread... (i dunno if someone has mentioned this already, but anyway) the last name of Yuko is Ichihara... some translations are wrong though. but the real official name CLAMP gave was Ichihara Yuko... (can't say it's real, since Yuko said herself that it's an alias xd )

xxxHolic is by far my favorite CLAMP anime/Manga. I've finished the series, read up to chapter 136 of the manga, and have my own guild dedicated to the Donut love. I so so want to see Watanuki and Doumeki end up together.
