Shade tossed back her head making her mane fly and chuckled at Daray’s actions, her flaming tail swung wildly back and forth behind her with loud snaps and whips. “Do you think you could stand in my way if I wanted to attack?” She swayed back and forth on her hooves like a cobra then suddenly snapped back into a straight pose like a statue of the finest marble brought to life by vibrant paint. Her eyes were glowing line tiny suns in the darkness and they caste a eerie glow on her pearly fangs.

She turned suddenly to address Aita “it’s the way of our world, he is not nearly as strong as us and in my eyes a lesser race…” she eyed Daray “my mate taught his surrogate son to eat meat…” she threw back her head and let out a loud laugh. It resounded of the trees cold, evil, and dark “the colt is now completely mad.” Shade grinned “lessers just aren’t suited for eating meat as we are they need the grass that their stomachs strive on.”

She was speaking to Aita almost as if she were another kalona, worthy to speak to with high regard. She lowered her head and grabbed one of the deer’s for legs and ripped it off shoulder blade and all. She bite down cracking the leg bones in half. “Some may have promise … but none of them can live on meat along…” she turned to Daray then, “you may enjoy the taste of meat … but your body really isn’t made to live on it like mine and Aita’s, remember it boy as much as you want to be like her you can’t be a full meat eater it just wasn’t how you were born.”

She wasn’t saying he couldn’t eat meat, it was just a simple warning that he shouldn’t expect to live fully on meat. She’d seen first hand the horror that such thoughts could do to a lesser and it bothered her in some deep core of her body. She snorted and ate the leg of her kill. Finishing with the meat she gnawed on the leg bone her eyes never leaving the pair.

Above her lighting flew streaking to the ground crashing somewhere farther off in the forest turning night into day, not long after a huge clap of thunder drowned out all sound around them making Shade chuckle “don’t you just love nature’s fury at her best ….so beautiful …full of rage and hate as if she’s trying to ride the world of weak creatures unworthy to tread apon her body.”

Daray remained close to Aita and snorted gently as the kalona spoke. He couldn't let her words... no, he wouldn't let her words get to him.

"My body may be nowhere near as fit to attack as yours, as sharp and deadly as it is" he growled softly, ignoring the trembling his legs gave way to, "but I'd give my life if it meant only a few moments to defend Aita."

He flinched. Did he really just say that aloud? He felt like burying his head in the ground in embarassment... Aita must think of him as the ultimate fool by now. She didn't need him to defend her... if anything, she would end up being the one to defend him. He was useless to her, and he knew it.

Instead of looking in the Nightmare's direction, Daray held his head high and kept his gaze on the swaying kalona, and watched her snap back into a cold, statue-like form. He listened to Shade talk to Aita as if he wasn't even there. Something about a story of some stallion she knew who was driven mad... by eating meat? What was so bad about meat?

His eyes drifted across the kalona's body. She was indeed a magnificent creature, a nature's killer at its best. His focus snapped back towards her mouth as he heard the cracking of the bones of the meat she began to feast upon. She then took a moment to address him, and his ears flattened as her words fell upon him like an unneeded, or rather, unwanted lecture.

"I never expected my body to be able to survive on meat alone," He gritted through his teeth, feeling ashamed that he failed, once again, at being able to do something. The two mares in his company both were able to survive on meat alone, in fact, it was probably their only diet. He began to feel just as Shade had described him... a lesser race.

He listened as she continued, noting the weather outside and commenting on it. It was almost as if her description of nature was referring to him.. and his standard, ordinary self. Already brought down by her words earlier, he thought to himself that he'd be damned if he let this kalona get the best of him. Stepping forward and away from Aita, Daray leaned over into the gaping hole of the bear and grabbed a hunk of the flesh with his flat teeth. Pulling hard and swift, he ripped off the piece and began chewing roughly and fast.

Eyeing the kalona mare in front of him, he swallowed.

"But just because I can't survive on meat alone doesn't mean I don't enjoy eating it.....and killing for it."

Aita was quite surprised. It took alot for a normal soquili to stand fearlessly before a kalona, especially one such this Shade. Curiousity got the better of her and she stayed silent a moment, observing what he would do next. Such potential she saw in him, perhaps she had chosen him for his inital promise, but...what she saw now...it ran deeper. He was a rarity and somethign to be held onto. Not even the bravest stallions usually stood up to a kalona so easily. Or perhaps there was more to it...if she could only see what he was thinking and feeling.

Aita only smirked at the kalona. "ah but it is only the way of our world in your eyes. He has shown such great promise and potential..why look at him? and how he stands before you, quaking in fear he will not let take him over. How many others can do that so easily?" She moved forward a bit to stand next to Daray. "Even so, this one does not wish to live on meat alone. He still has a wonderfully greedy nature for his beloved snacks of tastey berries and the like."

Aita watched Daray, defiant and bold...such qualities she admired in a stallion. She had noted his trembling legs and yet he still stood before this mare, without showing any fear. He had spoken of defending her, not that she needed it but..he had to feel strongly for her if he meant to give his life to protect her. That was something she would not forget. Would she have done the same? Maybe, but then again...who really knew.

Aita watched the mare as she ate her kill. A flawless killer she was. Aita wondered how she would fare with such a mare in battle, but then she only worried about killing what ran from her. Her speed to run was slow..but in battle she was powerful, close quarters suited her well.

Aita's eyes found their way to Daray, who seemed to have a rather bleak and saddened expression for a moment, and then the defiance returned and she watched as he spoke and ripped off a chunk of meat. She smiled, a rather large and pleased smile. She moved to stand next to Daray and swiftly joined him in the meal before them. She stood close enough their bodies brushed against one another. Dipping her muzzle into the fresh blood she spoke once more, "A lesser race? I think not. I think he stands higher then most in his race. He should have been born of our species, not theirs. But his spirit, his mind and his atttiude define what he is, not his physical appearance."

And then, just on impulse and urge, Aita turned to Daray, and smeared blood from her muzzle all over his. Almost like a wet bloody kiss, almost affectionate in a morbid kind of way, she left the oozing blood all over his muzzle, grinning as she looked at him a moment before tearing into the bear once more and devouring the fresh blood and flesh.

Shade laughed, “well I must give it to ya boy, you have guts and I applaud you for that.” She shifted on her hooves as her glowing eyes stared at them a dark gleam , shaking he head her long fur lock flopped into her face over the glowing orbs. Shade looked between the two of them, like a beacon in the dark she could see a light of love within this ‘Daray’ for the nightmaress.

Stabbing the spade of her tail into the kill she meandered closer to them the carcass dragging along behind her. She kept eyeing the two trying to figure they’re relationship out, she hoped these two wouldn’t be like the mushy fools she saw all the time, but at the same time she doubted they’d be like her and Calamity not showing their obvious affection for each other in public.

“It’ll take much training for you, but feel proud of yourself Daray as I see you on a far higher scale than the rest of the lessers.” Shade watched him for a moment then nodded her head as if she’d made a point to herself and went back to the meal laying at her hooves.

Daray was surprised on both accounts... by Aita's actions and Shade's words. He had never.. NEVER expected to hear such a compliment from one so evil and powerful as a kalona, much less Shade, and Aita's blood sharing was much more than erotic to the stallion (which was strange, in and of itself)... it was a touch of a lover, of a mate, this bloody kiss of hers.

Or perhaps he was reading too deep into it. He watched her return to her meal after giving him a grin. Any other Soquili who would have stood there watching the mare smile with blood running all over her muzzle would have thought it disgusting, but Daray found it rather cute, in a devilish sort of way.

His ears perked up as he heard Shade mention the term "training". Was she offering up her services as a hunter to teach Daray the skills neccessary to be able to assist Aita better in killing? If anyone knew how to hunt, it was a kalona.

Daray stepped forward, engrossed in watching Shade tear apart her former victim and current dinner. "Are you suggesting you train me, Nightshade?" He asked, afraid he was too quiet with his question as she continued to eat.

This could be his chance to impress Aita... to show him what his real potential could be. If Shade was willing to train him, she could turn him into a vicious killer like herself... and perhaps Aita would fall in love with him then? Perhaps she could love him if he turned as dark and evil as she?

Aita watched the conversation between Shade and Daray, silently eatting her meal of flesh and blood, her crimson eyes speaking volumes. A small part of her wanted to chase this amre away, Daray was hers after all...he was her hunting companion and her stallion to mould and to follow her orders....it was almost as if a small twinge of jealousy ran through her.

Aita's ears perked, then flickered back and forth as Daray asked this kalona mare about her offer to train him in hunting. A small glare was shot from him then to her. She would make sure she was there so he was not stolen from her. She was almost feeling possessive of Daray. Why should she feel so...strongly? This wasn't like her...something was different but she had yet to figure out exactly what this....difference...was.

She violently ripped off a huge chunk of meat and deliberately tore the carcass and flesh wide open, allowing the blood to flow generously before her, taking out all her emotions and anger on the flesh of the bear. She dipped her muzzle into the blood, trying to resist the urge to challenge this mare, to show this kalona Daray was hers and hers alone.

Shade watched the two for a long moment her stance and appearance was one of calm consideration, “it’s more of an offer to Aita m’dear,” she looked to the nightmaress. Shade had her lover and future father of her foals she didn’t need nor did she want Daray and she showed that clearly to the flaming mare. Shade didn’t mind helping in the training since there were something she could teach him that Aita couldn’t, just like there were thing Aita could teach him that Shade couldn’t and wouldn’t.

The mare turned away almost as if she were going to move away, Shade had her eyes closed and was thinking about something. Her tail twitched like a cats when it’s been annoyed to the point of pouncing, her mane whisked against her sleek neck with a tiny breeze. Suddenly she turned back towards them as her eyes opened the blazed with something darker and more sinister than Shade normally displayed, but after a moment the look disappeared.

“It’s your choice Aita, I’ll help you train him if you wish it, or not doesn’t matter to me either way, I have my own mate and I’m not after your lover.” Shade lifted her kill daintily in her muzzle and held it easily in the air, “when you’ve made your decision I’ll be at the creek.” Without another word the female spun around like a trained soldier and moved off seeming the meld into the shadows as if she were one herself.

Daray noticed the glare Aita gave him as he questioned the kalona, and it puzzled him. Wouldn't she want him to become a stronger stallion? Or maybe she thought lesser of him because he asked for help?

He took a step back, his gaze glancing back and forth from the kalona to the nightmare, and then back to the kalona again. There were female vibes going between the two of them, and either he was too dense to figure out what those vibes were exactly, or it was just another mystery of the female gender he'd never understand. Aita stood there, grinding the food in her mouth and looking grouchy as ever, and Shade looked as if she could care less... as if the two of them were just temporary entertainment for her.

He remained there, quiet, as Shade spoke directly to Aita. It irritated him some, as she spoke to the Nightmare as if Daray was a foal, leaving his "training" up to her decision. Although miffed, he respected and cared enough for Aita that he wouldn't bring it up, not now, and probably never.

His ears twitched when he heard Shade use the term "lover". Did Aita and him give off the appearance that they were a couple? It secretly delighted him to hear himself paired with the beautiful mare, and he turned to watch Aita's expression, not noticing that Shade had picked up her kill and was beginning to exit the cave.

He did manage to hear her last words, though, as he continued to watch Aita with interest. What did she think about all of this? Would she be willing to allow him to be trained by a vicious Kalona? Or perhaps she had ideas of her own for Daray?

After Shade had left their prescence, he slowly walked his way towards Aita and attempted to meet her eyesight with his own.

"What's on your mind, Aita?" He asked quietly, watching a drop of blood slowly trickle its way down her muzzle, tempted to lick it off. "Do you think it is wise to trust the kalona?"

Aita arched a brow at the kalona's words. An offer? An iteresting offer but if Daray wanted to be trained to hunt by a kalona so be it. It was really his choice, not hers. Funny how shade seemed to treat it as if it was her choice what Daray did. Shade's body language seemed to trying to convince her She was not interested in Daray, and perhaps that was true but Aita could not help the overwhelming feeling she felt creeping up inside of her. Was it jealousy?

Aita watched the mare silently, taking note of the dark, sinister look that briefly appeared in the kalona's eyes. But it was Shade's next words that puzzled Aita the most. She went wide-eyed at the kalona mare, as she seemed to indicate Daray was Aita's lover? A heated blush flushed Aita's face and the food she had been holding dropped out of her mouth in the shock of what was said. She wasn't his lover..she could not love him...could she? no of course she couldn't...a nightmare was not one capable of love really. Or at least thats what she tried convincing herself, trying to push the unfamiliar emotions down inside of her.

It was only when the kalona had left and Daray spoke to Aita that she snapped back to reality. She shook her head a moment to clear her thoughts. "I don't think she is a threat...if she was she would have attacked rather then talk and make an offer" Aita spoke softly but with a strained voice...one that indicated she had alot on her mind. She tirned her crimson orbs to meet Daray's fiery orange ones. "I think its up to you if you want her training but if you do I go with you. I'd like to make sure and keep an eye on her, just to be safe."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 29, 2007 5:46 pm

Even though the mood was nothing but serious, Daray had to let out a laugh.

"Something tells me, Aita, nothing about this whole situation can be deemed 'safe'." He chuckled, then leaned over to pick up the piece of flesh that she had dropped. He had assumed she dropped it because she was finished eating, and took advantage of the already torn off piece and began to chew it earnestly. "But, if it's alright with you," He said between chews, "I'd like to see what Shade could teach me... I feel that she might be able to show me a few pointers. Not that you couldn't show me yourself," he quickly added, hoping not to offend her.

He was beginning to love the feeling and the taste of meat, and his flat teeth had slowly begun to adjust themselves to working around the tough and juicyness of it. Greedily, he finished devouring and swallowed the remainder of the torn piece, and returned his orange gaze to her own crimson one. "I think it would be helpful to learn to hunt and kill. That way, I won't get us into another... dangerous situation, like earlier."

He had enough of a guilty conscious to look away, embarrassed of his past actions, and wished he had thought the situation out a little better than he had. But was done was done, and he planned on learning from his mistakes.

Aita stared at Daray a moment. Why was he laughing? Perhaps he felt the need to laugh in a most unsafe situation as he seemed to see it? She watched as he snatched up the meat she had dropped. She shrugged a moment, not caring that he did so. She could always tear off another piece. "Being a kalona Daray, I am sure she could teach you somethings I cannot. Speed and stamina are definitely my weaknesses. There is always a benefit to dual training. " She snorted and nodded in agreement with his statement about the earlier situation. "So be it then Daray. Let us go find Shade and begin your training" And with that she dragged the bear's carcass behind a large boulder at the back of the cave, hiding it from others who might try to scavange it. She trotted to the cave's entrance and peeked out. The storm seemed to be clearing now. She motioned for Daray to follow and set out to find Shade at the creek.

Shade was hsarpning he straight horn against a rock when she heard the sound of hoof beats. She raised her head slightly eyes scanning the woods even though she knew exactly whom it was she wanted to make sure it was exactly whom she thought it was.

As she saw the emerge from the darkness she turned to face them "greetings again, have you made a decision then?" Her ears twitched lightly twoards the pair as she watched them carefully.

Daray could only nod in response, his eyes gazing cautiously at the fierce creature's sharp horns. He knew he shouldn't fear this being, but his natural instinct told him that Kalonas were not to be trusted and to run.

Keeping his grounds, he walked closer towards the evil-looking creature and cleared his throat. "Yes, we have." he said, trying to sound as brave and fearless as he could muster. "If the offer is still on the table, I would be honored to have you train me and teach me some of your hunting skills."

As much as he wanted to, Daray resisted turning to look at Aita. He needed to show her... he needed to show both of them that he was independant.. that he only had himself to rely on and was choosing to have Shade assist him in what he wanted to learn.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 29, 2007 7:33 pm

Aita nodded a greeting to the mare and stood silently beside Daray. She watched the exchange between them as Daray walked forward and stated his intentions, accepting her offer of training to hunt and kill. There really wasn't much for Aita to say or do really. She would watch the training and perhaps she could listena nd learn tips to be a little faster and build her stamina. Naturally she was not going to let on about this. She did not want the kalona to know such a thing. It was never wise to show a weakness. In close combat Aita was deadly, but stamina and running.....she just was lacking in that department.

Shade nodded slightly, "then it's decided...we shall start tomorrow after a goodnights rest." Shade wasn't to proud or afraid to admit that she needed sleep especially after haveing a large meal. Twitching her tail the mare turned nonchalantly back to the stone and started to sharpen her cloven hooves.

As the days turned to weeks, Shade taught Daray everything she knew about hunting, and the kill. She gave him exercises to do that would increase his strength and senses. She worked him hard all the time to keep him strong and in shape.

Sometimes she would tell Aita the lesson and let the nightmaress teach Daray herself while she too learned at the same time. Shade watched Daray become strong and mighty in the hunt and felt a stir of pride at the fact hat she was part of the reason he was this way, but even more she began to miss Calamity's company and it showed on her face.
