Vajra B. Hairava God, I feel so dirty. Must go take shower.... at 1:30 in the morning... gonk Better than taking a shower in the morning, evening or at midday when your shower's located in the middle of the basement without a shower curtain and people keep walking by. I've mostly solved the problem, now (people who walk by get sprayed), but it drives me nuts.

And why are there people walking around in your basement anyway? Can't you just hang up a "Do not disturb" sign on the basement door? Or lock the basement door? Or do I just not understand how basements work? I've only seen them in movies. eek

There is no basement door. I mean, there's one to Mom's room from the basement, but it's just a wide-open area.
There's a bathtub upstairs, but the drain doesn't work and I don't know what to do about it.
Also, we're always out of shampoo even though my dad works at Aveda. He gives free shampoo to everyone else, but always fails to buy any for me. I'm the only one with a substantial amount of hair around (who washes it; my brother has hair but he only bathes once every few months, which is absolutely disgusting).

Oh my, that is an awkward situation. This doesn't sound like a normal basement, though. Usually, I think of basements as dark, danky rooms down a long flight of stairs with a solid door at the top. Is this a finished basement or something? Maybe if someone goes out to get shampoo, they can pick up a bottle of Drain-O or Liquid Plumber while they're at it. confused (Also, same situation with my brother. He "showers" but he doesn't use soap OR shampoo most of the time. Basically just a long rinse).

As far as I know, it's pretty normal. It's just not the sort you see in movies. razz And no, it's not finished. The spiders bug me.
And Dad always buys shampoo from the company store (it is one of the best shampoo companies in the world), but they don't sell Drain-O there.

How bizzare you are EI. Is there not even someone else's shampoo around that you can steal? I haven't used my own shampoo for weeks.
Hm, how does one get into the shampoo buisness anyway? Seems such a random career.
Xeigrich, you've only seen basements in movies? Thats a sentence I never thought I'd read/hear. They usually aren't all that danky, its just more house but with less windows. Only really old houses tend to have the stereotypical dustly dark dirt floor basements.

I don't like basements. They're icky. D:
(I've only seen one, though. I live in an apartment, but my friend lives in a house across town, so I visit now and then, but GEEZ! Her basement is FREAKY!!! I think she has a goblin down there or something. confused )

I'm not sure if this is true or not, but I've been told that in most of Texas and Louisiana, the soil is too soft and shifty to support decent foundations, and basements are just impractical. True or not, I have yet to actually visit or even just SEE a basement in real life, since everyone I've ever known either lives/lived in a small house with no basement or in an apartment. I have noticed, though, that nearly EVERY house in any given movie has a basement. It's like house = basement + ground floor + attic, when Hollywood is concerned.

Every house I've ever lived in (like 5) have always been basement + ground floor + attic, but then again I'm not living on shifty soil.
You know, If I ever have a house I want one of those rock lawns like they have in Arizona-ext., watering and mowing grass are stupid. I'd rather just hose off some rocks once in awhile.

I also have a shower/bath tub in the basement at my dad's house. After two weeks of my little brothers moving down there, the shower/bath tub won't even turn on anymore! xp

I've never lived in a house with an attic, but my grandparents' house has two attics... One at floor-level to the second floor (accessed via a tiny door in one of the rooms) and one with a typical drop-down ladder that leads to the under-roof-area. I've only seen the inside of 2 or 3 attics in my whole life. And I'm also against lawn mowing. I wouldn't mind so much if hadn't been stuck mowing down a jungle of a lawn, with 60 degree slopes on half the yard, and the most thick and unruly grass you ever tried to walk through. And this was just once every two weeks. Took 3 hours to do a yard that's not even half an acre. I want a rock lawn in the front yard, and a pool/deck/zen garden combo in the back yard, with two or three small raised gardens. XD

All the houses I lived in were bungalows (two floors, typically a main floor and a basement). The one I live in was a raised bungalow, only time I didn't have a basement - but it did have a crawl space (three feet of space below the house to crawl through because... something... is down there lol...
But the place I live now has a basement, but no real attic. Just the dusty unfinished space between the ceiling and the roof... accessed by a hole in the ceiling in the coat closet.
