Just picked up a copy of the Harlequin.. I'll give you my opinion on the book tomorrow. (I'm a fast reader. lol) smile

Well I read it...in a grand total of...let me see...about 8 or 9 hours strait...so yea it was very good. A few little inconsistencies but that's bound to happen when you have this many characters running around...the sylvie thing is easy to explan thought...all the onther people in the room were men, so if it did get out of controle she would be one of only two women in the room...with alot of men...see where I'm going. Anyway other then that good book, I WANT MORE DAMIAN and Jason too! Can't wait for the next Merry book, see you all in December!

I'm putting most of my post into white text because I'm not holding back on Spoilers...

>One, it was very good to see Edward back HOWEVER he wasn't the 'monster' that he was in Obsidian Butterfly which was a slight disappointment made up only by the fact that Peter was the 'monster' Edward wasn't, if that makes sense. It was also good to see Olaf, the creepy son of a b***h, and the fact that he kissed Anita? I liked that she puked afterwards though.
Two, it was very good to see Nathaniel come more into himself and that Anita didn't just run away screaming. One thing that was beginning to bug me about the last few books was that I was really starting to hate how the Anita Blake character was turning out, she was turning into a Mary Sue, and she still is... But she makes up for it in this book by some things just making more sense. Like the whole Vampire to Necromancer attraction thing. I kinda went off Nate then but ohwell.
It was good to see the Cookie Monster again, even though I didn't particularly like him in the last book and I still don't like him now. It seems like he's going to be a bad-a** Micah. A Micah/Richard combo only with some JC sensibility. lol Kinda wish Joseph didn't get away. That b*****d deserved to die.
What else... My mind has gone blank which is a shame.
Oh yeah... Rafael. What a spectacle that was. lol Same with the Swan King, didn't expect mr Swan to be linked all the swans in the US and kinda backs up that though he's a prey animal he's still a force to be reckoned with in his own way. Back to Rafe quickly, I can only imagine what Louie thought of that and what he's gonna tell Ronnie so that if Ronnie does come back in the next book just what she's gonna say to have Anita just snap. lol
Richard... What an asshat. He starts coming good, just like he seemed to be coming good at the end of the last book, and then he screws it up. And those lovers of Richard who think part of the problem was Anita? You can't put it to her this time. She actually came across as reasonable in this book when it came to Richard, miracle of miracles. He deserved what came to him.
And to my comments earlier in this thread, yay Edward didn't ******** Anita. Yay, Edward even left the room when sex came into the picture. Yay, Edward is still gonna stick by Anita and be her friend even now the he knows it all. Small things to be gleeful about but Edward is still a cool character.
<

To gist it up with no spoilers...

It was good to read an Anita Blake book that was mostly action, even if it wasn't the action I so enjoyed in the first few books, with very little sex scenes.
Yes, there were sex scenes but the chapters weren't overly long and drawn out.. there was actually plot. There was actually a story.

It's brought back my faith into the series. I will not be stopping reading these books any time soon. smile

Quick edit; I really hope like hell they find someway to replace Richard in the Triumvirate. I really do. (Just reread the last couple of chapters.)

Spoilers
[Yay Edward's back whee But I agree with you...he's gone a bit soft now that he has the "almost" family...tho I'm intrested to see how Peter will turn out. I don't know whether to be intreruged or disturbed Edward is training him in the "family Bussnius" and all.

Dude...Olaf...they should have just killed him when they had the chance...He's just too creepy and twisted to keep alive.

I like cookie blaugh it's good that he wants to be a better person and seems like the Lions are finally gonna get some better members. ******** Joseph xp you know, it just said he "went missing" that doesn't mean he got away...it just ment they couldn't find the body wink <******** Richard scream OMG! It seemed like he was finally gonna come around and resolve his issues and be a team player and all that good stuff. but then he has to ******** it up. Gah! Richard was one of my favorite characters in the beginning too.

I like that the smut was toned down a bit this time...the smut in the last few books was just so over the top.

I like that Nathanial is growing more.

hmmm what else...where the heck is LKH going with Anita catching all these strains of Lycanthropy? what is it? 4 now? plus the unknown one...
]

Non spolier version yay plot! yay finaly adressing issues that rose in the other books. yay bringing back charaters we haven't seen in forever!

WARNING, SPOILERS!!!! IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE BOOK YET, PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS!!!! IF YOU DON'T CARE, THEN READ AWAY, BUT YOU AHVE BEEN WARNED!
I will turn to white ext myself, but the warning stays

It was the most awesome book, i loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy she cut the sex down, I was so happy about cookie monster and richard. i amglad he is gone from anita's heart, and that Cookie monster is the new Rex of the St.Louis lions, i like the non-whimpy way he thinks, and Richard was always dragging everyone down, he deserves a silver shot to the heart. . . AGAIN! xd , He almost ******** killed Jean Claude over his own Stupid emotions. . . But Marmee Noir is scaring the s**t out of me, Why doesn't anita take the plunge and become Jean Claudes full human servant????? Wouldn't it be right and Safer??? She loves him! And Belle Morte too, both want her as theirs, it would be better to fully be his, she is already in a servant master thing full with Damian, right? So many questions that i need answered*sob*. Edward made me proud, But Dolph is starting to go into my richard Catagory, cause he is being a d**k. I like him too. . . .. The olaf thing freaked me out, And peter??? Poor kid. I like how Nathaniel is being more dominant, and that Anita is starting to change for him too. The thing wit Rafeal made me a little sick, i couldn't help it, it did, But not with The Swan king. . . . . . . . Wonder why, I kept thinking,"she gonna eat him, she gonna eat him!" The friggin Harlequin Pissed me off, I don't care, they did. Why are laws made? lol. Jason and Asher were almost no where in this book, save in being mentioned, which made me mad. I love them sooooo much. They are awesome characters.

I so agree about Richard. I'm glad Anita has finaly had some revelation about him to finally say, enough is enough...

I agree with your thoughts on wanting her to go all the way and take JC 4th mark...I mean, she already might have done it with Damion so what's the harm in getting the last one form JC...

yay cookie! I'm interested to see how it goes with him.

Yes...we need more Asher and Jason. I miss them crying
Tho I'm glad she finally pulled Zabrowski out of obscurity... Ya, Dolph is becoming another Richard -_- He really should take a leave of absents form police work until and get help with his issues.

Yay Edward... my jury's still out on Peter...Olaf needs to die...he's too twisted to be kept alive

YAYYY, Someone who agrees with me!!!!!! Yea, olaf can so be killed gruesome by now. but i did like what she had done to the Harlequin woman with Olaf, it disgusted me, but i thought it was so perfect. You know, kinda like you need to do bad things to make it all good?

SPOILERS!!

I totally LOVED it! I mean the rat king...the god damned swan king! I didn't see either of them coming and when they did it was like " Wow, what the hell was that? " sorta like after being hit by a car and surviving. The Harlequin were kinda stupid though cause even though they figured one of their own was breaking the rules they just stood back and let Anita do the work instead of doing their jobs and off-ing the rouges themselves. I like that Haven (Cookie) is back but I kinda figured that he was gonna be back because he left such a big imprint on my mind and Anita kept thinking of him. I'm glad Richard is gone, he was bringing everyone down, Anita should just put him in a coma so that they can just use him like a battery but not have to put up with his crap. Would have liked it if Asher had been in it especially scince he just made a closer bond with Anita in the last book, I mean he practically drained her dry and she still loves him. I adore LKH for bring back Olaf it was hilarious the way that while in Obsidian Butterfly Anita just thougt if he tried anything she'd just kill him and now she is just trying to stay out of arms reach I suppose because there is a difference between being told you are someone's type and having that person ask to halp you cut out somethings heart! Edward I can just picture him being Mister Deadly Daddy and teaching Peter the ins and outs of murder though I wonder how Peter will develope because of it.

Thats about all. I am waiting impatiently for the next Merry Gentry book and really hope that I can build a time machine to get to December faster!!
