um, sleet, wind...not tuba-friendly weather, we didn't march in it, but we came pretty darn close, since no one told us that the show was moved inside (I HATE indoor shows...'cept the dome) yeah, a snare drummer's fingers went numb and turned a pretty purple colour, and our DM/mello's face went numb...it was NOT fun

One kinda small competition my band was at this year was cursed with rain. Lots of it, but not enough at once to cancel the show. However, the center of the field was so muddy it was practically like quicksand...there were spots several inches deep. gonk

not really wheather conditions, but there is this one competition that is cursed...first year I went (2 yrs ago) a friend of mine got it in the eye with a piece of guard equipment, it was not pretty, then the school truck (which was hauling our trailer) broke down at a service station, and this last year, the band parents' minivan blew a tire...we're not goin there again any time soon...

I'm a freshman so this is my first year of marching. Before the school year started we had two weeks of band camp where we had to march on the practice field (a parking lot painted like the football field) in 90+ weather in the middle of the afternoon.
The worst field we've marched on is the field at Judson Stadium. They coat the grass in this rubber stuff that makes you bounce uncontrollably if you don't roll your feet just right and the field is CURVED. It's higher in the middle than on the sidelines which REALLY made it hard to march. The stands are old and the wood is rotten so we couldn't get up and dance like we usually did at games because we were afraid the stands would collapse.
At a game against Seguin High School, we had to march in 30 degree weather on that same field. This was after weeks of typical San Antonio weather (mid 80s to upper 90s). Our band directors wouldn't let us bring jackets or blankets and most of the woodwind players were having trouble playing by the time we took the field at halftime because our gloves are fingerless (they made us cut the fingers off our gloves at the beginning of the year.) Even though our uniforms are made of really thick wool-like material, the wind was coming up from under the rickety stands and freezing our legs. The poor flags had to march in black sleeveless unitards and silver sequined togas with NO JACKETS (They have new costumes for every show. They had jackets and blankets in the stands so it wasn't too bad for them while we were waiting).

No socks or underwear. Had a really rough afternoon and I was in a rush because I was super late.

My gosh, I had one this year exactly like that!! Where was it?! You MUST tell me!! gonk

Yeah. The mud was several inches deep. I heard a flute fell and had to shove her instrument into the ground. eek Luckily, they strawed our field right before our guard started setting up. 3nodding It still was nerve-racking. eek I be just freshman...so I was shaking, walking onto the field. I fall a lot, in circumstances such as those. xp And it rained...and rained...and I tripped and fell into a puddle...luckily it was between prelims and finals, so I didn't have my jacket on. So much for my pancho. stare gonk

during the memorial day parade, it was baking hot outside and really sweaty. some guy nearly passed out or so i heard... and we walked like a mile without playing through this semi deserted place...and there was like...a lot of bugs...pesky. then at the end, it started raining, hard. and our conducter (the stupid a** he is) had an umberella and used it...and let us march in the rain.

I'm sure most of you have this problem too. Our uniforms are the hottest things to be in when it is hot outside, but they are the coldest things to be in when it is cold. It is a lose lose situation. Anyway, My fresahman year we played a competition at someplace called sullivan. It sucked. To start out, we had to perform on a practice field. It had rained all day and was freezing cold. Instead of canceling due to field conditions, they just put kitty litter and sawdust down on the field. To make matters worse, we had to do three-to-fives sideways during our snare solo.

it had rained on and off so the ground was wet when we were in Blue Springs, (?)Missouri(?).
for our state marching band "competition," NSBA, (which wasn't actually a competition, or so they said), it was raining AND extremely freakin cold cold - trust me, the thermals didn't help out too much

then again, I can't have imagined marching the show out there in that COLD uniform withOUT my thermals, so... I guess that it could have been WAAAAAY worse!

well, i live in the northwest and it gets kinda cold up here in the end of october. usually our state competition gets down in the 40s or even upper 30. even our football games get near that temperature. it ususally rains at that competition as well. so your cold and wet. but the worst is the wind. we wear shakos with plumes and when the wind is blowing really hard your shako goes to the side and/or backwards (our shakos have to be very low).
The worst competition that i have been was in Corvallis, Oregon. Prelims, the wind was blowing really hard, and i play flute, so we had problems getting sound out. and of course our shakos were back too far (i actually think one of them fell off of a girl, but we have chains so it was still on her neck. and this colorgaurd's hair came out), along with the wind it was raining, so the shakos didnt protect us as much as usual because the rain was falling at more of a slant. it was miserable. i swear the rain didnt come without the rain because at finals it was not raining, but then it started to sprinke a little and the wind started back up again.
My freshmen year, our first three competitions were 80 degrees or higher.

We had a competition where it rained, which of course, brought out the ants. Along with the obvious mud, the wind was blowing so half our props almost blew away. redface
