Yeah, Hitler's got nothing to do with Faust... sweatdrop or we Germans in general! He was Austrian. Ja. *cough* But we love the Faust legend, and think Takei was pretty awesome to actually put a descendent in Shaman King.
I'm writing a fanfic about Faust. The first 4 chapters are in my Gaia journal. Lesen Sie, bitte! *read, please!* The Hitler thing got my attention, because I try to work actual events into the story. (For instance, a year after Eliza's death, Faust helps tear down the Berlin wall. I assume he's in Leipzig, like the original Faust, so that would make him East German.)
I have too much time on my hands apparently. But easy on the Germans!

D : I made the comment because of what Emi said. She said he scared her and made her sick but she still respects him. It CAN be compared to Hitler because even though he was a scary person and he had a 'sick dream' I can still find reasons to respect him. For one he pulled a destroyed country out of debt and got everyone back to work, as well as lifted their sprits (minus the Jews of course). He was also an incredible propogandist. FYI, I'm NOT a nazi.

I'm loving this discussion! I personally really like Faust.... and you're right about Hitler. He did bring the economy and spirits of the people up, even if he did terrible things. And while I laugh at things that parody Hitler, it's hard not to respect him when you see old footage of his speeches. The German language is incredibly charismatic. eek
Oh, and Hitler wasn't a propagandist, it was Joseph Goebels who mainly arranged the pograms and such. sweatdrop My father is really into reading about World War Two, and has a huge collection of books concerning the third Reich. I've read them all; the Germans were really on top of things during the war, but the Holocaust was a horrible occurence that German people are ashamed of. cry
Faust isn't Hitler, but you make some good points.

I'll admit you all are making some good points. Faust and Hitler both had up and down sides to them. I know that Faust can be sweet but using your wife's body as your spirit may just be a little obsessive. But you got to give the guy his props that helps to make for an interesting battle. Though in my pretend world his wife is still alive and they have a daughter and grandkid. Faust was also my biology teacher last year and he was rather nice. eek Wasn't that freaky either, other then the fact that he wouldn't where his shirt in the classroom. rolleyes

When I first read shaman king, I think I passed the "Faust vs. Anti-Faust" test. That's basically where he whips out the skeleton, professes his undying love for Eliza, and the reader either goes... 1. OHMYGOD NECROPHILIA gonk gonk gonk gonk gonk or 2. OHMYGOD that's the sweetest thing I've ever seen !!!! I want to marry someone just like him!!! heart razz mrgreen I kind of did something along the lines of the second one. rolleyes

Prodigious_girl tinmaiden Oh, and Hitler wasn't a propagandist, it was Joseph Goebels who mainly arranged the pograms and such. D : Doesn't Mein Kampf count? Yeah, but it was *mainly* Goebels. Hitler wasn't bad at advertising himself, but Goebels was the professional. Also, the book was not written for young people; Goebels found ways to reach the most impressionable Germans, mainly children. He published books, such as "The Magic Mushroom", that depicted Jewish child molesters tempting Aryan kids with drugged mushrooms in order to take advantage of them. It was of course a metaphor for the percieved Jewish domination of the economy, but to children it was a depiction of the Jew as a monster. (which they're not! I'm stating facts, not opinion. :-/

There were a lot of book burnings at the time that had nothing to do with the leading party members, but Goebels was in charge of some of them. Nietsche, right?
