Plucking Meepo off her shoulder, she set him on the floor. Smirking a little, she picked up her fork and glanced at him across the table.
"I meant what I said. I've gotten a lot of practice," she smirked, taking a deep breath, trying to shove away the fear she had experienced in nearly losing Mecca more than once. Leaning an elbow on the table, she watched him for a moment as she stirred her food around on her plate.

"Why'd you do it?" she asked, looking down at her plate. "Take the relic, I mean. Wouldn't you rather live your life in peace rather than on the run?"

Orarion smiled and started to eat.
"Because the people who want it are bad. If they get hold of it then it could mean the end ... for all of us." He said, concern crossing his brow. He allowed it to sit there for a few moments and swallowed. "I have to keep it away from them."

Breathing deeply he ate some more and smiled at her.
"How did you meet Mecca? He is usually so solitary."

Covet took in his answer and frowned a little as she ate. When he spoke again, she looked up and smiled at his question.
"We met as children in Crescent City. He tried to explain to me how he could think pain was fun and won himself that feather he wears in his hair," she laughed a little. "Our paths kept crossing after that until he one day disappeared without a trace for a few years. When he decided to return we... rekindled our friendship, if you could call it that," she smirked. "Believe me. I'm just as surprised as you are by all of this," she said, gesturing to the cozy cottage that had become their home. She continued to eat for a moment, then paused and looked back up at him.

"What does it do? Why do they want it so badly?" she asked, turning the conversation back to the relic.

Orarion smiled and laughed.
"I'm glad Mecca has found a purpose and a home here." He said as he finished off his breakfast. "The relic has a terribly destructive power. If it fell into the wrong hands they could use it to overthrow and kill a lot of people."

he smiled at her again and placed his spoon down on the table.
"Will you come for a walk with me?" He asked gently. "I feel a bit nervous to go on my own."

Covet watched him closely as he answered her, then looked down and stirred the remainder of her meal around. She could feel the inkling of doubt about turning Orarion away with such an object in his possession. If they managed to capture him, they would most likely kill him and then such a powerful object would be in their hands and more shu might die. At his request, she looked up and gave him a small, warm smile.

"Of course. It would be nice to get a proper walk in without the threat of being soaked," she smiled, and rose to her feet to make light work of cleaning up the breakfast dishes.

It was cool and breezy out on the cliff tops. The air clear enough to see for miles. Where the sea met the sky on the horizon.
"You are lucky to live here." he said with a gentle smile. Sliping his hands into his pockets as they strolled along the dry path. "It is so beautiful and feels so liberating." He smirked a little and looked out at the view. "Have you been to Sarges? I have lived there most of my life. Not such an atmospheric place."

The bangles around her ankle jangled gently as she walked beside him, the breeze toying with her long, free hair. Folding her arms behind her back, she looked up at him as he spoke and smiled as her eyes travelled over the gorgeous view.
"I have," she smiled. "I have been to Sagres once and it has atmosphere. Just not one so peaceful and bright. And luck has nothing to do with it," she said with a small shrug of her slender white shoulder. "It was simply a matter of choice. One you have too, you know."

Orarion smiled and turned his eyes back to the path.
"Well, maybe I do need a change of scenery." he said whistfully. "I just need to find a suitable hiding place for the relic."

He watched her out of the corner of his eye. Still not understanding why Mecca found her so interesting.
"Though I doubt Mecca would want me steping onto his territory."

Covet smirked and continued to watch the path before her as she listened to him.
"You speak of him as if he were a dog. Mecca keeps to himself. As long as his peace goes undisturbed I do not think he would care one way or the other," she said, watching a furry creature much like Meepo run off the path and into the grass away from the intruders.
"Why don't you hide the relic in Sagres? If they know you are no longer there, you could slip back in to find a hiding place for it, then leave again to start anew in some other place. Surely it does not have to be with someone in order to remain safe," she suggested, looking down at the path, then up at him, reaching up to sweep her hair back out of her eyes.

Orarion shrugged and kept his eyes ahead of them.
"Sagres is too full of oppertunists. People who would seek it for profit. No, it needs to be somewhere. safe."

he smiled and turned to look at her again.
"What do you do in this town? Are you just Mecca's house keeer or do you earn your own keep?"

Covet stopped walking and looked at him for a moment.
"I own my own cafe on the seafront," she said watching him closely. She was a little miffed by his suggestion, but supposed she couldn't fault him for assuming as much. Taking a deep breath, she remained where she was and turned her eyes out to the endless horizon.

"No more games Orarion. I'm tired of playing. Why are you insisting that Mecca take the relic from you? I'm sure an intelligent shu like yourself could think of other means to keep it safe. Why does it have to be Mecca?" she asked, sliding her cool green eyes over to him.

At her words Orarion sighed inwardly. Mecca would have to choose an inquisitive pain for his 'companion'.
"Mecca is a much higher level than I. His knowledge and magic would help to kee it safe from those who wish to destroy."

He sighed and shook his head.
"And I play no games with you. Is normal conversation too much to ask for?"

Smirking a little, Covet turned and stepped closer to him to peer up into his ice blue eyes.
"You know, he's not the only shu who has great knowledge in magic," she smirked, slipping her arms behind her back again and continuing down the path.
"And if you play no games, then my mistake," she cast over her shoulder at him, fluffing her wings briefly before resettling them against her back. "Forgive me?" she asked with a slightly coy smirk.

"You think you can handle such power." He asked her with a raise eyebrow and a smirk. "I would not want to drag such a rare jewel into our darkness."

He laughed at her words and shook his head.
"You are fogiven Covet." He smiled continuing to walk. "Though there must be something darker that you show in your soul. Why else would you choose such an emotionless companion. I wonder if you know what it truely is to feel."

Covet smirked a little and glanced up at him.
"I can handle anything I put my mind to," she smirked, keeping her eyes on him for a moment. At his next words her smirk deepened and she looked away, reaching up with a soft clinking of bracelets as she tucked some of her wild hair behind her ear.
"Perhaps you're right," she said with non-chalance. "Perhaps I do have a dark blight on my soul, and perhaps I don't know what it is to truly feel other than physical pain. Is that such a crime?" she asked, turning her eyes back to him with an arched brow.
