No, I used to go to the Baseball and comicbook gatherings at my local mall.
Now I hear about the expensive Monument Conventions.

craftymama I am so jealous of you all! I want to go to a con so bad! However since many of you have been may I ask you for your insider opinions? I working on a gift for one of my best friends. She is a huge Sailor Jupiter fan (from Sailor Moon). I found a cross stitch pattern of Sailor Jupiter that is 200x300 approximately. Once all that stitching is done I plan to turn it into a pillow. This endeavor was inspired by the pillow on this link: Fuu from Raye Earth Pillow It is so pretty!!! Anyway, my question is this... if I made more anime inspired pillows, wall hangings, ect. that are cross stitched like this do you think they would sell at conventions? Hell, do you think I could sell them on ebay, around town, or period? Have any of you ever seen such at any of the conventions you've been too? If so what kind of prices do you recall? A friend of mine who lives in Japan says that over there this sort of thing pulls $300-500 for a pillow or wall hanging the size I'm making of this or similar characters. He said certain others and other sizes can fetch up to $1,000 - $5,000 with the most insane one fetching nearly 1 million. (That last one was a "life size" wall hanging of Akira and his motorcycle.) Well, for now I need to go. The friend I'm making it for is on her way over to hang out and I need to hide it before she sees it. ^_^ I really think you could sell something like that! I didn't venture too far into the Art Alley at ACEN so I can't tell you if there was anything like it, but I am most sure you could sell them. I'm not sure of pricing but that can be haggled I'm sure.

I went to Sugoicon in Fort Mitchell Kentucky the weekend before Thanksgiving. Kinda small, kinda sucky (we lost our art table in Artist's Alley because Con-Ops didn't communicate with us none too well) but all in all it was an ok first con experience. i'm shooting for Ohayocon in January but if I can't make it I'm definitely doing Asen in March. Otakon or bust in 2008! I'm going come hell or high water!

I'm going to MegaCon in Orlando! It'll be my 3rd MegaCon and my 5th convention alltogether. The only thing is, I need a job and a costume before I go. It's next month, and I can't really have one without the other. sweatdrop Oh, why did I quit my job at Jo~Ann?! I could have had money AND fabric! I'm going to be living off ramen noodles for a while. stressed

*Dusts off topic* Yeah, I go to conventions. The last ones I went to was Comic Con in San Diego last year, and i just went to Anime Con her in the City Of Angels on the fourth of July. Best fourth of July I’ve ever had. lol I also got to meet Lanzer there. whee I got a picture when we were just chillin, it was when he had down time and no one knew who he was. I want to go to Comic Con this year, but it's hard to get transportation that far. sweatdrop And tickets cost a lot if your not in the Navy. rolleyes

I'm a regular in the Florida con' scene, although I have been known to venture out of state on occasion. And Crafty, OMG, where'd you find this anime cross stitch pattern 'n are there video game ones, as well?
This entry was made a while ago, but I simply must know. *senses a new- found hobby coming on*

I don't think that I'd want to work as staff at a convention again. I'd much rather be able to enjoy them as an attendee. Yes I will admit that the perks are nice but who knows.
The last few conventions I went to were the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo and the Colorado Renaissance Festival. Both were alot of fun. And if all goes well next year I will be attending TFcon. The Transformers convention in Toronto. And if we are lucky maybe Gallifrey-One.

I've been to several conventions in TX. I'm probably going to A-kon and if things go as planned I'm going to go to my first comic con and dragon con. : )
