Well, Christianity condemning something is hardly an accurate measure of whether or not you should trust it, however I'm with them on this one. Even though the board may not be "evil" (excluding that morals are relative and nothing is inherently evil) it has more than a small potential to cause great and lasting damage. What do you plan to do if some high level demon from the blackest, darkest depths of the netherworld decides to use it as a portal and come visit you? I highly doubt any of the magick that most of the people here claim to use can banish something so powerful on a mere whim.

I would say that they are not a good idea....they can be used as a portal for any entity to come through. Evil or good.

I've used homemade ones on several occasions in the past, I've never had a bad experience with them, which surprises me because I attract negative spirits. I've only had really amusing experiences. I started using a Ouija board on the bus in middle school because an older student had done so with success, and I wanted to give it a go. I later stopped because the student who first started got possessed while on the bus (...I thought it was funny, the spirit was really weak, and she was a self proclaimed almighty practioner of magic) and became hysterical whenever she saw someone use one. I started up again at a friend's house because she had a glow in the dark one, and while we didn't get anyone to talk to us, we sure as hell got poked a lot. Since then I use them off and on when ever I get bored. I tend to either use them alone or with one other person.
I'm rather reckless when I get bored, but I haven't used one in over a year now.

I do use a Ouija board. It was given to me by my father. I've never had a problem with them. Some creepy experiences, yes, but nothing more. I've also seen that spirits (at least the ones that speak with me) cannot spell very well. They don't spell words very often, more often wanting to stay with 'yes-and-no' questions.
I use it to talk to the spirits that are in my home. I never ask for spirits to come in and speak with us.
However, I do have certain rules when I use it. I usually light white candles, say a prayer, and I never use it by myself. Perhaps next time I'll take the salt suggestion ^^

I used to use Ouija boards, but it wasn't a very nice experience. It kinda drove me nuts. :/

My friend has one that I asked her to bring to my house for a party over the summer. We told my dad we were looking for sticks to cook marshmellows and went into the woods to try it out because I've been convinced there's something in there since I was little. Anyways, her, I, and another friend tried it while the rest of the group stood about four feet away and watched. We had gotten someone and we started asking him/her questions. Where I live, there is church not to far that was used for the Underground Railroad, and I had seen the ghost of a black lady in a colonial style blue dress when I was little, so I asked if the person was a slave: it said no. My friend asked if it ment us harm: it said yes. The three of us screamed, everyone else screamed and we pushed the pointer off the board. Needless to say, my dad heard us scream and came to see what was going on. Another friend stuffed the board up her shirt so he wouldn't see it and everyone else started looking for sticks. In the end he found us hiding the pointer with a rosery wrapped around it (we were trying to purify it) and made me promise not to use one again. The thing is now I'm intrigued and want to do research and try it again. My mom had one when she was younger then me, but it was distroid when their house caught on fire. (not because of the board, my grandfather's shirt caught on fire and he threw it behind him onto a wooden table and freshly painted walls)

Meh, the ouija, like anything else, is a tool. It is a neutral device.
What gives it its energy is the practitioners' usage (past and present) as well as the residual off anything that's been contacted using it. If you properly clean it and know what you're doing, nothing should be wrong.

I gotta say, who doesn't expect a malicious spirit when dealing with ouija boards? Its about as common a stereotype as anything out there. I'm always disappointed when people freak out when screwing around...
Anyways, yeah, I agree with what Azana said. Though, I'm a little more lax with whats necissary for such things.

get this, my mom says she does not believe in ghosts, but does not like the ouija board because it can attract 'bad things'
anyways, i dont use one, if i so desperately need to talk with a spirit, i can find safer methods of doing it.

I just recently bought something called the "Enchanted Spiritboard" but I haven't even used it yet. The only reason I got it was because the "Enchanted Tarot Deck" is the only tarot deck I have that actually seems to respond to me. I think I'm actually afraid to take out my board though. I know they can work with one person, but I don't know that it will for me and I don't want to end up out of my comfort zone. I think I will stick with my tarot for now. That makes me happy. smile
