The hybrid tried to pick up speed as the unknown intruder did, but went sliding through the muck. By sheer luck 'she' escaped plopping into the slime, though once she grazed a tree, scraping some of the skin off of the soft lavendar arm. Branwen could not seem to gain any ground on her prey; however, she was gladly not losing too much. It was a cat and mouse game of fishlike proportions, an effort in futility. One could only hope that it would eventually come to a dramatic conclusion, but neither half was holding their respective breaths.

A root came up from the muck and snagged Locien's foot, tripping he slid in the muck, grunting, a small ball of light fluttered in his face. He felt a strange connection to it. Reaching out to touch it only to have it jet away towards Branwen.

It was his Mellon, it came to him. Nodding his head grimly, he saluted it as he tried to scramble out of the muck. Instead of turning around and joining it to fend of his pursure in the muck.

He ran, he ran for his very life.

"Sorry," He muttered, "But I trust no one..."

The Mellon did not know of his 'betrayl' it started to divebomb Branwen, getting all in her face.

Branwen tried to stop as the little bug flew into her face, causing her to plop backwards.

"YOU STUPID LITTLE NUISANCE!" Wen grabbed the mellon as she watched the shadow disappear from sight. "Your Master has left you; there's nowhere to go now." Smirking, she pulled at one of its wings until she felt a ripping sensation. "Heh, pity you can't talk. I'd torture the information out of you. It will be your fault that my master will be angry with me." For the next few minutes, Wen poked and prodded and tormented the mellon in a strangely overdone revenge until it passed out from shock and fear. "Useless... I didn't even pull out the dagger yet."

"My arm hurts," the angel cried as the rain kept the scrape raw and burning. "Ooo that thing is glowy! Can I have it?"

"Knock yourself out kid," Wen frowned.

"Yay!" Bran giggled at the wounded mellon. "If it lives I can make it a pet! Or or... AN ACCESSORY! A glowy hair pin!"

"Nuclear Bombing
And crushed mothers screaming.
Too much for doctors
The death count exceeding." Amara softly sang, having already picked up what was going on. X-ray eyes were marvelous really. So she was feeling very cheerful right then. She always loved it when pae'il were evil enough to hurt another, but stupid enough to get caught. It just made her look even better. Hopefully it wasn't her new apprentice though, else she'd have to finish him off herself so he didn't spill anything involving her...

Phim was laying in a nearby tree. He had just gotten out of the marsh, and finished cleaning up. "Evil as you are, you have an excellent singing voice." He said, mildly surprised that she hadn't seen him. "Know who did it yet?" Phim asked, knowing that she would have a bit more information than he did on what was going on. The sheer amount of worry in the air was enough to make any bad pae have fun during a night like this.

"Just because I'm evil doesn't mean I have to hurt my own eardrums singing." Amara spoke, clearly not surprised. Of course she had seen him there. Again...x-ray vision did wonders. But no...she didn't know who did it. She had watched as the pae'il was carried to the healing houses, and the huge gathering at the marshes and had peiced togeather vaguely what happened. Pae got attacked, now there was a search party. But of course, she remained silent on this, simply looking cooly up at Phim. She had told him that raining evening, that he would only get that one time to ask her questions. As far as he was concerned...she'd never answer another one again for the rest of his days.

Maybe it wasn't the smartest idea he'd ever had, but it must be done. Kane was still nursing the wounds he sported from his encounter with the primate creature that fled Dragnid, but he'd waited long enough to make sure that there was no blood scent that would attact any more savage creatures towards him. He needed to travel quickly and quietly. Hopefully, whatever it had been wouldn't happen again. And if it did, he only hoped he could control himself this time.

Bracing himself, he plunged headlong into the dark woods. His destination? The very center of Dragnid. Or at the very least, as deeply as he could get before the forest's darkness overtook him again. At the first sign of a headache, he planned to turn tail and run. Normally he wouldn't have even considered the thought, but there was no worrying about pride in cases like this. Survival was the central issue here.

Following close behind survival, however, was pure curiosity. Kane HAD to know what had happened to him the other day. The attack; the pain; the...transformation? He knew it had something to do with this damned forest and he wasn't going to let the matter slide until he found out exactly what was affecting him.

Snarling softly, the feral feline Pae'il took to the trees, bounding lightly from branch to branch. While deep still-healing gashes criss-crossed his form, Kane was relieved to note that his abilities didn't seem to be hindered. In fact, if anything, they seemed...enhanced. ...wait a minute. Frowning in concern, he made a personal note to keep an eye on that as well as a lookout for any possible headaches as he plunged deeper into the forest.

He heard the distant voices of...two Pae'il, perhaps? Odd that anyone else would be in here with him, but he didn't have time to worry about them. Not that he cared what they were doing in here anyway. He continued on his high-speed, silent flight though the trees, senses on intense alert for any signs of danger or anything out of the ordinary. He wouldn't be taken by surprise...not again.

Phim hadn't expected an answer, he had remembered very well that he had already used his only chance for questions the night she had taken him on as an aprentice. "Found this, thought you might be able to use it for something." He said, tossing an armband with a celtic design on it to Amara. "Someone's coming." Phim stood up and hopped down out of the tree and stood next to his master. "Course, if you can't use it for anything then you don't need to."

"From the attack site, or on one of your playmates?" She slipped it onto her arm for convinence sake and tightened her amber eyes. Amara scanned the area around before focusing on the approching pae. "Adult male, coming in fast...threat level...average I suppose. Seems feral, from dragnid perhaps?" She relaxed her vision, pulling away from her hard honned ability. "I shall take my leave, you do the same and come back in five minutes when he has passed. Try not to be eaten in that time." with that amara jumped into the trees and bounded away.

"Attack site." He said, listening to her as she spoke of the male coming. "Aye." Phim stated, getting back into a tree and strolling off in a random direction to avoid the male.

Kane growled softly, using one branch to spring to another a good distance away before resuming his flight through the trees. His sharp ears tracked both of the Pae'il as they hurried off in different directions. Fools. They weren't any of his concern. Though, at least he didn't have to worry about them slowing him down with stupid questions or the like. He flew through the area and was gone as quickly as he arrived.

His senses wouldn't be turned off, however. Hmm...by the scents, it was a male and a female. The first, angelic, the second... He hissed softly. One of THOSE things again. Stupid Faes...why was he cursed to be a magnet for the ignorant beasts? Lovey, clingy, whining, crying...

He shook his head slightly, focusing on the matter at hand. No distractions now. He had more important matters to consider. He could practically feel the dark forest's strength increasing by the second. His eyes sparkled with feral delight, anticipating violence...fighting...death...

Ugh...it was getting harder to fight now. Snarling, Kane halted his mad dash for a moment, surveying the area as he composed himself. Glancing down, he could swear he saw tracks through the mud. Hmm...the question was how old they might be...if they were any more than a couple days old, they'd hold no interest for him. Any sort of beast could have been through here at any time. He just wanted to know if it had been through LATELY and if he was likely to run into it...and whether it was hungry.

Kane stayed in the trees for now, out of the muck, using his sharp eyes and night vision to scan the darkness below for any other clues to what could have been here lately. So many smells...it was taking time to sort through them all.

Amara was not so concerned about him disturbing them as...he seeing that they were togeather. She'd much prefer if her association with seraphim was kept quiet, have as least amount of eyes notice them as possible. Because as soon as they noticed...she would have to get rid of him. The fae glided easily back to the spot after a while, making sure that the other had passed with her vision. She streached. What a nuisance

Eyes narrowing, the feline focused intensely on the ground. Was that what he thought it was? It had to be...any hunter knew how to read a trail. Though what had been through here exactly was hard to say. The question was whether to follow whatever this thing was...or things...or to see where it was coming from. Maybe it had been running from something, like the primate creature he'd fought with.

As much as he would like to follow the trail to find out what sort of creature had created such a path, his instincts told him that his answers lay in the other direction. Either this creature had been running FROM something...or it was the beast that the others had been fleeing. No matter which, Kane wondered more about where it had come from than where it had gone. Turning back in the opposite direction from which the crushed foliage pointed, Kane bound from tree to tree, pausing frequently to study the signs below him before descending deeper and deeper into the heart of Dragnid. The darkness of the forest was nearly tangible now, a solid, evil form that sought to destroy any who dared challenge it.

Slightly off Kane's 5 o'clock, a shadowy form tailed him, meeting him jump for jump, closing the gap between them readily. It's tail wished hungrily, bladed end held steady and ready to strike.

As it closed to stirking distance, the tail lashed out, rending a deep grove in the bark above Kane's head.

With a lound frustrated hiss, the creature lept to a nearby tree, to set itself up for a better attack, it's body still shadowed by the canopy's shadow.

If not for his supernatural reflexes, momentarily boosted by the forest's own magic, Kane's head would have probably been on the ground, staring blankly up at his own body in the trees. Or smashed against the tree trunk. It was hard to say at this point.

Whatever the case, a number of silvery strands of hair wafted gently down towards the forest floor as the feral feline Pae hissed and tensed, leaping for a lower branch before whirling around to face this new threat. Surprisingly, even his enhanced night vision couldn't decern what sort of beast lurked in the shadows. Probably the dark magic of the forest aiding its native creature, Kane thought grimly. Great.

"So, are you the great beast everyone's been fleeing from?" he mused aloud, his slitted eyes glowing with a feral light in the darkness. The powerful urge to hunt, fight, and kill was growing again. His adrenaline was pumping and though he couldn't see it himself, his eyes were starting to take on that reddish, bloodshot look again that Alaera had noticed the other day. He growled softly, retractable claws shooting forth as he prepared for battle.

"Nah, probably not you," he taunted, his voice low. "You're fast though...and agile. I'll give you that much. But can you fight when you're facing a foe head-on?"

He chuckled, barely realizing the darkness was slowly seeping into his mind again. "What's the matter? I impede on your 'holy domain?' Afraid I'm here to take your hunting grounds? I'm just passing through." He paused, realizing he'd been in the reverse situation before...when he'd nearly attacked Kika with the same accusation. Funny.

Still...it bothered him that he couldn't even see what he was fighting. Let alone know why it had attacked him. Though, this was Dragnid...these beasts needed no reason for their aggression. Glancing briefly over his shoulder, then back to his foe, he wondered quietly, 'Unless there's something this thing doesn't want me to see...'
