Stopping to turn at the top of the stairs, James looked at the wolf with utter confusion clear on his face “You think I’m prissy?” The phoenix couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s a first for me. I don’t think I’ve ever herd that one before.” James turned an took a step toward Carah. “I’m willing to try to change, to make less assumptions, If you are willing to talk through your feelings more. Don’t just pretend you don’t care. This may be another assumption, but I don’t think you would have stopped me if you didn’t care.” James took one more hesitant step. “Take away my assumptions Carah, tell me what you want. Then, if it is something you want, I’ll come back inside.” James smiled up at the wolf.

“I’m sorry. When you invited me here I thought my sleeping with you would be my price for staying here. I was fine with that, I mean, your hot. I was willing because. Like I said, I was drawn to you. I apologize, do you want me to go?”

James smiled at the bear as he slipped into his pants. “Hi.” James greeted him warmly before looking up from buttoning his pants. “Sorry about all of that. I hope we didn’t wake you up or anything. I’ll try to keep it out of the hall. I don’t have a lot of time to hang out, I mean, he may change his mind.” The phoenix sent the bear a mile and walked to the door. “By the way, my name is James.” He said from the doorway. He stood there half in and half out of the apartment.

Placing a light hand at the small of his companion’s back James said quietly “It’s not a big deal, he was just being nice.” Going further into the apartment James smiled at the wolf “Can I sleep with you tonight? Just sleep if that’s what you want, but I don’t really want to be alone.” Setting his shoes on the floor by the bed James stood up quickly. “Oh, by the way, I know you can take care of yourself, but if that little bit ever goes at your back I’ll kick his a**.”

“Thank you.” James mumbled as he sat down on the bed. Laying back on top of the covers he pulled his knees tightly against his chest, and tried to take up as little space as possible. Very quickly he drifted off into a fairly gentle sleep huddled on top of the bed.

James slept soundly through the night and well into the morning. An innocent smile played constantly across the phoenix’s face. *This is the first real bed James has been in for a while, so he will sleep a while, and Carah will probably wake up first.*

Waking in the morning when the sun hit his face James sits up and stretches. Smiling brightly he said a sunny “Morning, and thanks, that was the best night of sleep I’ve had in a long time.” Rising from the bed he walked over to the wolf in the kitchen. “Can I cook you breakfast? I fry some mean bacon, and scramble up some awesome eggs. Or do you want me to go? What do you want?” James smiled weakly at the wolf insecurity shining in his eyes.
