She shook her head again, shifting her weight onto one foot. She frowned softly, making a soft, squeaking noise, face scrwed up in what looked like frustration. Finally, after a moment of silent personal debate, she raised a hand, laying the bone white, pale fingers over her throat, tightening them theeatrically. Then, she raised her hands in a helpless, resigned motion. The meaning was clear. Clayr was mute.

It only took Orrin a moment to figure out what she was doing and when he did, he smacked his forehead. "Ow.." He shook his head a little then looked back at her. "And here I am asking you all this stuff. I'm sorry about that." He fidgeted a little the rubbed the side of his neck. "I guess I should go then. I didn't mean to intrude like this."

She made another squeak and stumbled forward, clasping his arm with cool, gentle hands. She shook her head, adamantly, looking worried, and pointed out the window. It had started to rain, and rather hard at that. She tugged on his sleeve insistantly, reaching to her waist to produce a small, leather-bound folding book. She flipped it open, and showed him. It was a refillable notepad, with a pen hooked in the bind. She removed the pen, scribbling for a moment. She held it out to him, patiently. On the unlined paper, there was a single neat word scrawled in pretty, small script.

'Clayr'

Orrin had jumped when she came over and took his arm. She was still practically a stranger who still lived in a creepy house. When she pointed to the window, he looked over then frowned. How had he not heard the rain? He shook his head a little then looked back to her, looking down at the pad and seeing the name. "That's a pretty name. I'm Orrin." He smiled a little, stepping in some to close the door. Thought she might not have been able to say his name, he felt it right to tell her since she had, in her way, told him hers.

She smiled, shyly, blushing a little and shuffling her feet. She took a deep breath and took to scribbling again, then held out the book, eagerly.
'Thank you. Please, stay with us. We won't hurt you. Crow will be nice.'
She was smiling much more warmly now, and much more shyly.

Orrin looked at the pad then tilted his head. "Crow? Is he a pet or something?" Now that she was smiling, she and the house seemed more inviting. No evil witch could be someone like her. "I wouldn't want to overstay my welcome. I just haven't been able to find the town yet."

Clayr grinned broadly at the idea of Crow being her pet. She exhaled a soft, sharp breath that posed as a laugh, shaking her head. But at the mention of town, she seemed more serious. and pointed in the general direction of the town she and Crow had skirted to find the house. The she picked up her pen to scribble more.

'That way. Stay with us. Isn't our place, isn't anyone's. We found it.'

Orrin read the pad then glanced around the place. It certainly looked big enough to house several people but houses like this always scared him. He was a chicken. "I-I wouldn't want to intrude..." Since she had said the house was abandoned before, he was sure there had to be ghosts or something lurking about. Maybe even a monster under some of the beds or skeletons in the closets.

She smiled warmly, scribbling and holding the pad out for him to read.
'Crow can protect you, too. Like he does me.'
After giving him enough time to read, she closed it, hooking it back into her waist, and held out a slim, small pale hand out to him, invitingly. She ducked her head, gently, looking up at him through the silver-white locks of her hair, smiling and blushing lightly.

"He can, eh?" Orrin hoped this Crow was like a big dog or something. Usually those were good at protecting people. When seeing her hold out her hand to him, he hesitated a moment before taking it. It felt small and fragile against his own large rough ones. When she blushed, Orrin could help but do the same.

She beamed brightly, tugging him along behind her as she padded back up the stairs, squeezing his hand, tightly. She made it to the top, then frowned, heavily. There was a solid wall where the hallway to her room should have been. She huffed, frustratedly, and dropped his hand, stomping over to it. She reared her foot back and kicked it, aggravatedly, crossing her arms.

After a moment, she looked at Orrin, contemplatively, then at the wall. She held out her hand, with a slight smile, an encouraging one. 'Trust me', she seemed to be saying.

Orrin followed her, keeping hold of her hand while trying not to trip as he looked around. He felt like if he let go, something else would jump out and grab him. When they stopped, Orrin watched Clayr kick the wall which only made him blink in confusion. Maybe she didn't like that particular wall? He took her hand again when she held it out, thinking she'd just lead him further down the hall or something.

She took a deep breath, patting her stomach, then reached out and patted his as well, telling him to take a deep breath, to hold it. Without waiting for a reply, she tugged him behind her, passing through the wall, and pulling him very quickly behind her.

Orrin watched her, drawing in a deep breath and holding it. He didn't understand why. Was it some odd game? He knew several children who played some of the weirdest games. But when she passed through the wall and pulled him along, he started to panic, suddenly clinging onto her, his arms wrapping around her waist tightly, though not too much, in fear of getting stuck in the wall if he tried letting go.

She tugged him through, surprised at his reaction, but not distressed by it. She tugged him through the wall, gently, where they stood in the hallway she'd been looking for. Instead of proceeding down the hall, she stopped, letting his momentum send him crashing into her. When he did, she followed his lead, wrapping her arms around his waist, catching him gently, holding him close against her in an effort to comfort him. She stood on her toes, squeezing him gently, shhhing him and rubbing his back in gentle circles.
