"Er.... good evening." Caitlin straightened up unconsciously, accent jarring slightly, eyes flicking nervously to the tentacles. With sock puppets. Something reeeeeally strange was going on here.....

"Would you.... I mean, sorry, impolite of me." She dipped her head. "My name's L - Caitlin, but I haven't been here very long." She gestured at the people around, ruthlessly taking the nervousness out of her action.

"Um..... either the fancy dress is very good or the research that Doctor mentioned is more widespread than I thought.."

Richard smiled his grandfatherly smile and extended his hand to Catlin. "The name is Richard, Richard Harrision. Please to meet you."

"Just arrived eh?" Richard debated telling her a lie to get her through the night but decided that was againist his principles. "Everyone in the duplexes participates in the Doctor's research I'm afriad. Not much to be done about it right now. Its a big social event now. I know this is shocking but try not to make much of a scene about it. We all know our appearences are odd but some are more sensitive than others." He winked trying to give an appearence that he himself did care.

The senators nodded.

Despite the casual sentence Caitlin still blanched. Everyone was part of the research? Judging by the many houses that she'd seen on the way here, that was a lot. Bizarre jaws, tails, tentacles...... a girl with a tail over there, but that -had- to be part of the costume. Had to....

"What kind of research is it supposed to BE?" She said almost weakly, looking round again. "You must be being paid a hell of a lot."

((*Emer's hop-hopping in!*))

The first thing Emerwyn noticed when she entered the tent was the intense smell of... meat. Red meat. It wasn't very strong from the entrance, so she was able to ignore, however she made a mental note to avoid where it was coming from at all costs.

Her robes were very heavy, and she knew she was going to have to remove them sooner or later. The thought of this sickened her. She was none too specific about how the costume should look aside from the robes, and, well, she looked like one of Ian's tavern wenches underneath.
All in good time. Perhaps she'll not have to resort to that.

In the meanwhile, she walked about. Perhaps she'd enjoy herself more than she had last year... Last year. One whole, cursed year...

It was Halloween already? The year had gone by rather fast. Zach took one step into the tent, glanced around at all the either hated or unfamiliar faces of the people meandering around, and made a beeline for the table where the alcohol bottles were lined up. Though he hadn't touched alcohol in months, surivivng this party sober was simply not an option, especially if anyone like Chubbs or the snake were to show up. Into a plastic cup he poured a suitable amount of vodka, and then filled up the rest with punch till the mix in his cup had a diluted greenish hue to it. That'd do the trick. Cup in hand, he wandered down the rest of the tables and noted how pretty much everything there was unappetizing or inedible to his newfound tastes at this point. Even the alcohol was going to be a bit of a risk.

When he ordered his costume, he'd asked for something that didn't require a lot of time to get on, and he hadn't been let down. His costume itself was fairly simple. Around his waist was a black cloth wrap over some loose black shorts, and around his shoulders a tattered black cape made of the same material as the wrap. The cape was thrown back between his wings so the whole thing couldn't just slip off. With some black face paint he'd done a hasty job of circling his eyes to make them look sunken. It was all topped off with a fancy plastic pitchfork which he held loosely by his side. The other satanic features - horns, wings, red scales - weren't something he could take off at the end of the day. Shockingly enough, he'd abandoned the hat for a day, though his bald and half-scaled head was now well exposed.

With nothing better to do but wait for someone he knew to show up, he retreated to a table where he could lap up his drink. He figured the party would at least seem a little more fun once he drained a couple of cups.

Sayuri had long since gotten a drink and taken it to a quiet corner, kneeling a little awkwardly on the floor as she sipped it. It hadnt been too bad here so far, she reflected, watching people enter, leave and move around talking to each other. She still felt far too under dressed, and really wanted to go back to her Duplex and change into a kimono but she darent. Wearing this..thing was her desperate way of showing Sabin that she was worthy of him.
Sighing she got to her feet, adjusting the skirt and padding off in the direction of the older man talking to the woman. She neared them and drifted to a halt, near enough to sort of hear their conversation but not brave enough to outright go up and introduce herself. The man was wearing a strange sheet costume, and appeared to have wavy things similar to her Danna's cat.

Richard sighed, He wished he had his letters with him. He didn't feel like explaning the whole story right now. He wanted to enjoy the evening. Well he could tell her about the bulletin board... Yes that would work.

"Ah you haven't read the welcome literature yet have you? Tell you what, back towards the village center is a bulletin board with an envelope of welcome letters. Why don't you take a walk to collect yourself and read one of the letters. Then see if you can't cobble yourself something of a costume together so you don't stick out like a sore thumb. After that I'd be more than happy to answer any remaining questions."

Sayuri shifted on the spot, tail wiggling a little as she cast her eyes around the interior of the tent once more. She spied a very strange looking winged creature; a very good costume? Either they looked intimidating enough to secure her feet to the floor.
There was however another newcomer, one she was pretty sure she recognised. She smiled, waving to try and catch Emerwyn's attention.

Emerwyn had drifed about for a while, eventually deciding that she'd fetch herself a drink, when she spotted Zach. She walked over to him.
"Good evening, Zach."

As she was greeting Zach, however, she also caught Sayuri's wave that seemed to be aimed at her. She returned the smile, and gestured for Sayuri to join them.
"Hello, Sayuri!"

"I... I'm okay not wearing costume. Honestly." She flinched aside as she let another few people past, and tried not to pale more at their appearances. Some of them looked... well, downright sci-fi, as if they had stepped out of a film set.

"But.... you're right. A bulletin board, you say?" Explanations, she needed some hard facts right now. Too many fuzzy words, the fish mutant, Duvert and now the many many 'people' she could see around her. Caitlin bit her lip, and took a step backwards.

"I'll..... go do that. Perhaps I'll come past later, how about it?" She smiled briefly, her eyes still wide in her face and not particularly meaning the smile at all. "Thanks, Richard."

She turned and walked away from the tent, keeping her walk easy until she felt she was far enough away to scurry undignifiedly fast. It wasn't fleeing. It wasn't. It was a strategic withdrawal....

Tommy was at the moment just hanging out off to the side, people (creature) watching. It looked to him like there was more than just one new person here. You have the guy in the gorilla suit and then the other chick without a costume...and she had a certain mannerism about her that was very familiar to the ex-Air Force cadet. He shakes his head, lifting up his mask for a moment to drain some blood...idly pondering if his body could take a heavy dose of alcohol.

Caitlin and Richards' discussion had Oz's rapt attention, despite the fact he was too far away to listen. Oz was terrible at reading people in general, but just like Tommy ealier in the evening, he could pick up an obvious unrest in Caitlin. And it concerned Oz. What did she have to be worried about? Maybe she had an anxious disposition because of her addiction or something. Regardless, his eyes kept glancing back to Caitlin and Richard.

That is, until some more people arrived. There was a very elegant looking lady, again in a double-costume, but she had a sort of ethereal beauty. Very deer-like in appearance, almost reminding him of the fairytales and bed time stories his Aunt Tabitha used to tell him. And ho boy! The dragon-dude - tremendous costume! That must have taken days to make! Another hardcore fan of Halloween. Seemed a chame for the fellow to just grab a drink and hide in the corner. Oz made a mental note to go over and say 'Hi' later in the evening.

Oh, there's Sayuri!

He was wondering where she'd gotten to after getting a drink, so it was nice to see her (well more specifically her figure) again. He tucked the gorilla head mask under his arm and walked over to her side, knowing this would be easier than mumbling through the mask.

Sayuri hesitated a little. Emerwyn had headed for the scary looking..well she wasnt even sure what he was. But she liked Emerwyn, and so walked over, bowing to her when she drew near.
'Hello,' she said, straightening, her eyes flickering over the form of the winged and cloaked something.
'It is very nice to see Emerwyn again.'

Zach pulled himself up from his slouch over the table when he heard Emer's voice, immediately clamping his mouth shut. The way he had to drink from cups now was pretty embarassing.

"Oh, hey Emerwyn..." He drummed his fingers on the table, across which lay the pitchfork. "Want to sit?"

Someone else had come over at Emerwyn's gesturing, a person he'd never met before. He looked over at the girl in the skimpy outfit, not sure what to think of her or the bowing. Customary wherever she came from, he supposed. As long as she was Emerwyn's friend, though, she probably wasn't dangerous. "And uh, nice to meet you..." He hoped she'd fill in with a name.

"It is good to see you, as well, Sayuri.

Oh, Zach," Emerwyn introduced sayuri for her. "This is Sayuri."
She chose to respect the costume. Noah loved Star Wars. The only reason she had seen it.

She smiled gratefully at Zach and sat down, having a bit of touble adjusting the folds of robes to do so.
