At the mention of the c-word, Billy's eyes brightened up and he straightened up with a groan, "F'I... ne'er 'gain... ne'er... jes'... aach..." His increased eagerness was quickly thwarted by a flicker and a buzz.

Sid chuckled with Alec's question. "There might have been adrenaline shots, I dunno. All I know is nothing melts a chick's heart like seeing some guy laid up in a hospital bed, dragged back from the brink of death and swearing he'll change, that he kick the habit, if she'll only be his." He put his hand- bottle and all- to his heart as though it actually touched him. Sad thing was after so many years whatever passion had driven him to spout crap like that had faded. Still, he was caught up in the memory enough that he didn't notice when Billy triggered another doping.

He kept talking and hobbling with the cane obliviously. "And I did change- for a while, but it turned out I wasn't the type to settle down. It didn't end well. She got the kid and I got to pay alimony and child support. But I did give up coke, just like I promised!"

Alec raised a brow at Sid when he caught the tail-end of the story, finding in particularly interesting. "Ye go' a runt? Man.... tha sucks she too' i'." The boy frowned and tapped the handlebars of the wheelchair as they lumbered on through the jungle. "Good on' ye f'quittin' a guess. Don' worreh 'bou' the past though, a' don' go' much luck wi' th'ladehs eitheh. Neveh did, realleh." The sharkboy trailed off as if he was falling into somesort of reverie, his turn to lament on the past. "A' go' this thin' wi' couples yanno, a' joost don' feel righ'..." He shrugged, leaving the details obscure for now.

Turning his eyes back to the path ahead, he noticed Billy induce another response from the gizmo around his neck and sighed. "Ye can' ge' so worked up, take i' easeh theh." He offered the suggestion with little hope the concern would be taken to heart.

Billy gave a miserable groan, settling back in his chair as he hugged his backpack tightly, (or as tightly as he could manage) befor he lifted the matches uselessly to Sid, wordlessly asking for help.

"Yeah, well... All in the past. Probably couldn't have salvaged things even if..." Sid trailed off and shook his head as once again it came back to that. "I'm not good with relationships, either, it's kinda... oh, sorry." Once he finally spotted Billy's plea for help he fell back a few paces. He looked at the bottle, then the cane. Letting Billy hold on to the booze was likely a bad idea, so Sid was forced to stick both the bottle and the cane under each arm while he attempt to light the match.

It took a few attempts to get it, and naturally once he held the lit match out to Billy the bottle slipped from his arm. It landed with a crash, scattering glass and whiskey all over the path. Sid glanced down a second after. "s**t."

Alec winced as he heard the loud crash from just over his shoulder, guessing the cumbersome object would fall sooner or later judging by how awkwardly Sid was juggling it about. "'ow long were ye marreh'd?" The teen decided to press on in the conversation in hopes it would prevent any remorse for the fallen whiskey, even though he wasn't too thrilled over the topic they were discussing. Although he didn't want to talk about it, he definetly felt more open around a bunch of guys than if he was having the same conversation with anyone else so it all wasn't that bad. Billy sure didn't seem to mind.

Billy wobbled as the smoke was lit, grey whisps cirlcling up from his ear as he leaned back. Sid began to come into a bit clearer focus with the soothing blanket of nicotine ebbing through his cells. Sid was cool. He knew Sid. Sid with fingers. And a sharp tooth problem. Alec, though, despite the similar sharpness was a different matter.

"Who th'feck're you?"

"I'll leave the introductions up to you two," Sid said after a moment's hesitation. In the meantime he knocked the shards of glass out of the wheelchair's path with his cane.

After a quick glance in Sid's direction, Alec stared down again once he realized the delerious man was referring to him. With a reaction like that, he was starting to wonder if he'd chanced upon an old folks home with how utterly off everyone was acting. "Alec." He uttered flatly in response, forgetting to take note if Sid had ever referred to the grumpy blob with a name. "An' ye?"

Billy flinched at the reply, reeling in a slightly discoordinated way as his multilimbed hold on his bag shifted. "...William," He finally replied, "Where're... we goin'? Sid... where're... we goin'?"

"We're going to the village." Sid turned and gestured that way as if he needed to clarify where it was. Maybe he did, given Billy's condition. "Just for a little while. I mean, just long enough to get something to eat."

The more he thought about it, the more it seemed like Billy needed a hell of a lot more than that, but he was still waiting for a better idea to hit him. He glanced to Alec, just to confirm he was still cool with that. It hadn't occurred to him that he ought to feel at least a little bad for dragging the kid into helping.

William. Alec recorded in his memory, doubting he'd ever forget the visage of that guy anytime soon. He also seemed to have an access that struck him as similar, though definetly not from his neck of the woods.

Falling silent, the teen went about listening to the conversation and pondering the mentioned details. For one, he'd only remembered then that he'd left his spare pair of pants by the lakeside. He'd have to retriev them later. In addition, the realization that this little trek back to the Village was going to possibly take up a large amonut of time. He couldn't leave Sid alone with William, it would be impossible for the old man to ensure his safety single-handedly. Catching Sid's eye, the teen nodded calmly. Why not? He still needed his good deed for the day.

"Almos' theh, ay?" He hoped. The truth was that trudging through the underbrush pushing a wheelchair was starting to take its toll on his rubbery, vulnerable feet.

THe octopus took another slow pull from his cigarette, eyes lolling to Alec's side as he spoke, but his gaze lowered to his tentacled lap and the moving ground, "M'fine. M'no' hungry."

Sid took the lead again. He was moving slowly more for the sake of his leg than to keep from leaving the rusty wheelchair behind. "Fine. Then we'll just... sit and talk."

The pills never seemed to kick in fast enough. So far he just felt dizzy. It made even more difficult to try and figure how they might manage force feeding the octopus. There'd likely be more ink involved. Sid chuckled without knowing why, that possibility wasn't even funny.

Alec couldn't help but chuff a laugh as he continued to push the wheelchair at both Billy's denial, and Sid's persistance. All he knew was that this was going to be a weird experience, comparable in his mind to some twisted family dinnertime over the supper table. Hopefully the small-talk wouldn't be too painful.

"'ow'd ye ge' all th'way teh th'lake like tha', ay Bill?" He didn't want to insinuate that he was incapable, but the prospect of him dragging himself all the way there in his current state seemed unbelievable.
