I've never had a library fine because I rarely ever go unless there is a book there that I can't find elsewhere. Other than that I buy all the books I have ever read.

I love my school librarians, they let me check out more thanthe schools limit of out books, they waive all library fees on my account, and they let me have the non library books that are accidentally dropped in the return box. Librarians are good friends to have. Just offer to help a couple timesand they will let you do what you want, (Whithin the rules.)

I wish I were a librarian, too. :3 Doesn't being a librarian afford you certain privileges in terms of book-checking-out?

You get to read stuff before it goes on the shelves.
Well, yes. But one can gain that privilege simply by forcing librarian/editor peeps to allow you to be a reviewer. (And then, of course, review.) Yes?

But admittedly your method would be more efficient...and less time-consuming. Since you don't have to write the reviews.

You can also see what everyone is looking at on the library computers.

xd And that's why you should be careful.

I owe $20.00 in fines right now... sweatdrop
PostPosted: Wed Aug 03, 2005 4:26 pm

I've had a $10 fee on my card for about two years now. But I rarely use the library, and when I do, I just do self-checkout. The machine can't bust me for my fee. I plan on never paying it. =D

Your library has a self-checkout? How cool. biggrin How does that work? I want one at my library so I don''''t have to wait in line with an armload of heavy books.

I just got back from the library again. Another $5! The library upped their fines when I wasn''''t looking. It''''s 20 cents a day per book now. Does anyone else remember the good old days when fines were 5 cents? confused

My library charges $.25/day/book. My school library charges $.10/day/fiction novel or nonfiction book, and everything else (we can check out reference materials overnight and audiovisual equipment like cameras, VCRs and other stuff) is $1/class period/book. which REALLY sucks.

at the public library though (I live not three blocks from one of the Public library branches, it's awesome!) I checked out like, 8 books, and got grounded the DAY before they due, and my parents don't ground me from TV or video games, they ground me from books. So, I have these overdue books, that I can't read, and can't return, and I pay for all my library fines. (I have my own card, everything at our library is computerized, so you have to have a card to use the internet and stuff, and you can check on your account at the search station things, and renew books or reserve books, and you can have any book from a different city library transferred to any other library to pick up)But by the time I was ungrounded, I had a $38.50 fine. Our library sends out a notice after you get $20 in fines, and after you get $25 you have 3 weeks to pay it all off or the library sends a collection co. after you and you have to pay an extra $10 in service fees. But I only had $20. And you have to pay it ALL off (you can pay it off in increments, but if your balance is anything more than $0.00, you get the repo man). So I went down to the library to cough up my $20, and the librarian there (they know me there, I'm there constantly) took my $20 dollars and said..."Ooops...I just knocked off all your balance...oh well..." But I buy a new book in fines (and fees) almost monthly anymore.

I never use the library any more. They never get any new stock in, and never have any of the kinds of series that I like (somewhat violent mangas like Berserk, the Erevis Cale trilogy, books on ninjutsu and D&D ect) and I'm the kind of person that likes to keep books anyways to reread later, or to find a way to incorporate something I've read into a D&D game.

Once my family left on vacation and didn't realize untill we got back that me, my sister and my mom had all left huge stacks of library books under our beds. We ended up owing 63 dollars in fines, and couldn't show our faces in the library for weeks redface Now the librarians just renew our books for us, they know we won't steal any.

I have like a $2 fine at the video store, but still haven't had one at the library for awhile since I forgot about a research book that was left in bookbag. Before that incident in the name of college education, I can't remember the last time I had a fine. Our library also has extended rentals for movies to a week instead of just 3 days like they used to. Anyway my mom works there so I can just send my items needing returned with her if I can't make it on time.

The librarians know me on sight and are constantly calling me when I order stuff from other libraries.

I love my library! We have no fines whatsoever, you can put books on hold online and pick them up at the library of your choice, and we have three or four self-checkout machines. The downside is, the selection isn't quite as nice as in some of the other counties.

x) Haha. They're still 5 cents here--and I don't have to pay them at all! *waves library staff ID*

We have self-checkout and online request and renewal too.

We usually check out a lot of books from our library, so sometimes we'll forget a book when we go to return them, and we get fined, and sometimes we're really busy and forget about our books and when they were due, so we get fined like 2 dollars for each book.

For almost 2 1/2 years I worked at my public library and one of the perks is that I never had to pay any fines. Let me tell you that was nice cuz otherwise I would have owed so much. It also allowed me to keep books later than when they were due because I knew I wouldnt be fined.
