Would 'the ghost in the shell' count as valid? It's a modern myth/legend, AIs that think for themselves and whether or not they have a soul - or what makes a soul.
I think that'd be awesome to see, with the assumption that the AI had a soul and so could be reborn after a system wipe or virus attack or something...

Ummmm....I wanted to claim the phoenix fa'e concept for my use, but has anyone already gotten hold of it? That and I don't know which specific culture to place it on. Phoenixes appear in Chinese, Japanese, Christian, and...uh...somewhere else...mythologies, so I'm not sure what to do about that. D:'

Actually, there's been a Phoenix quest in the past that we would've approved. Though you should probably check with Neith-Kia (Kia's guardian) to be absolutely certain, I think that as long as you avoid the Bennu and pick a specific culture to center on, you should be fine.
(Assuming it doesn't interfere too much with the Russian Firebird concept that Vash has -- but, if I remember correctly, that doesn't have too much to do with reincarnation, right? :C)

I looked at some other mythologies concerning phoenixes; I liked the Simurgh (sp?) and the Roc, especially, and I was looking through other bestiaries and indexes of mythological birds. I like. ^w^
I may even scrap my original idea and go with something completely different based on what I find! 4laugh

I just thought this one up, and while it's not one I want to do, maybe someone else would do it?
The all-encompassing "enchanted woods" from fairytales.

Sosiqui Here's another neat one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saci_(Brazilian_folklore) Its been a long, hard road trying to find a mythbase that doesn't tread on or overlap existing concepts and Fa'e. xd If its alright, I would like to give this one a go. Research it a bit more and perhaps use it for a concept character. Is there anything contained in its mythos that could potentially overlap existing fa'e and dream fa'e?

If Santa Claus is considered valid for rebirth, I think it could be really interesting for someone to take that idea on.
Different stories about Santa say different things. Some say he's immortal, but a lot play with the idea of Santa being a series of men carrying on a tradition then passing the torch on to some other guy. If someone went with the latter, there'd be a number of different time periods and origin stories to pick from for the mythbase. The former might be harder to qualify for death and rebirth, but it could probably be done if shameless commercialism were brought in as a villain, or maybe one of the Christmas special characters. He's definitely magic, even when you exclude the reindeer and the elves and whatnot as being separate from Santa himself, most stories imply he has some magic of his own, like the way he goes back up the chimneys. I don't think he counts as part of a major practiced religion...that's kind of a weird case there.
Anyways, Santa Claus has potential to be a really interesting Fa'e.

This is actually something I am not really exploring with Sei. (If machines/ai can actually have souls on their own - Sei's was acquired differently) But god god god if this pass and someone takes this, I would be willing to work and plot with them SO HARD.

Chang'eRabbit on the Moon/Jade RabbitChinese goddess of the moon. Or, uh...maybe someone could do the Jade Rabbit? I dunno, xD. It'd be interesting to see more rabbits, though. so as long as they don't interfere with Faye's plans"According to tradition, the Jade Rabbit pounds out medicine for the gods with the lady Chang'e. Others say that the Jade Rabbit is a shape assumed by Chang'e herself"
