[April 25th, 2005~]
[Opening Run]Quote: Chao looked up, barely catching sight of the last fading rays of the sun before turning back to Aido and the level, slightly annoyed look the Embellished Tale was giving her.
"Aemu, I'll be fine, just let me go for a little while?"
The Author dragged a hand through her dark locks, "fine, fine. But are you sure you don't want me to come with?" The look returned. "Alright, alright, I'll be by later after I get my stuff from the library. Don't go anywhere else but the Stationary Store," she gave her daughter a cold stare, blinking as she recieved a hug in return.
"I won't! Promise!" Turning swiftly Aido dashed down the walkway towards the Stationary Store, a confidence she didn't feel in her stride. She dropped to a slow walk after Chao dissapeared around the corner. She sighed and chewed on her lip as she walked, halo glowing softly to further light the way until the streetlights came on."I'm not being slow ya know. And I know.. but I'd rather keep it locked anyway. Call it a very old habit." That made him snicker as he sung Jiro down onto the ground and let him walk on his own. The portal to the store was already opened so it wasn't hard to just get there. Sah rather loved Silent's company and Silent learned quickly that females ewre treated very very well here. Mainly cause there weren't that many there. This race was mainly male. But the animosity beteen Angelus and Jiro was still very much alive and 'well' and it bothered him. "Not that I don't trust everyone here, just i've lived in the human world too long heh..I cant help it. Think anyone'll be at the store?" " Yeah yeah yeah. You need to lose some weight. You know, Sah was commenting on your habit of eating too many sweets." She couldn't help but tease the man. Sah never said such a thing, but it was fun nonetheless. Silent looked down at Angelus. Nothing. Not a word nor peep. She turned her attention back to Jiro and Akiya. " The human world is a scary place, I agree. Hmm... Hopefully someone will be there, if not, we can always get more books." Silent's favorite room at the home was the little library. More books were always better. Angelus' head lay over Silent's shoulder. Emotionless brown eyes looked to Jiro then to Akiya. At rare moments did the child so any sign of feeling. But those moments were with Silent or Akiya. No one else. Aido peered through the glass of the Stationary Shop breifly before taking a deep breath of air and running her fingers through Rael's fur as the Shadow briefly appeared. The bell rang softly as she entered, only to find that no one else was there. Laughing quietly to herself she simply shook her head, heading deeper into the little shop, examining it from her new vantage point. She wouldn't mind just waiting here, even if no one else was about, the Stationary Shop always made her feel safe after all."Am I getting fat?" He had the feeling this was a joke so he played along with it, letting out little whimpers as he pt his rock hard stomach> "waahh well I'd better start working out or something before I get fatter. Then Sah'll abadon me and it'll be all sorts of bad!" Snickering, he let those two enter the portal first before he and Jiro. "Yeah that's true... I need to get some of my books back from Keeper.. if he's done reading them anyway..." He noticed those annoying eyes looking at him, and he smoothly looked away. Annoying Angelus. Bad enough he was still living, he kept looking at him. It bugged him like nothing else that he had shared his blood with that no good upstart. When Angelus looked at him, his eyes softened as he smiled at him. The longer his silence, continued, the more determined he got to fix him.. whtever it took. He would make him better... As soon as Akiya passed the portal and stood next to her and patted the flat stomach. She grabbed about a centimeter of skin. " You see that? Look at that fat. Don't worry. You and I can start working out. That way I can get in shape as well." She also grabbed her skin, pretending for it to be fat. " Now now. Sah will love you. Wether you blow up to be a hippo. I think he'd like the extra meat." She winked at the angel. Angelus didn't react to Jiro's expression. It was as if he never noticed it. He stood quiet. Motionless, except for his eyes moving about him. He didn't have Darkness anymore. From what he heard, the man left the cave that day and was never seen again. A shiver ran down his spine. He swiftly closed his eyes. Ever since the transfussion, strange things happened to his body. What did the Tale's blood do to him? Angelus watched the smile on the man's face as he opened his eyes. His fingers gripped Silent's shoulders. He wanted to reach out; wanted to be held by the angel, but knowing Jiro... That would never be.His face showed true horror as fake little tears slipped down his face. "Waaah I'm so fat! And trust me, me dear, Sah would not wish to be crushed by a hippo XDDD" Looking at her little bit of flesh, he snorted. "You should meet my sisters. They have the same issue you do XD." Feeling a faint tug on his robes, he looked down at Jiro, who was sending images into his head. "All right. Go ahead and see if anyone is there.." Jiro liked to scamper off ahead after awhile of being in their company. It wasn't much and it saddened Akiya like nothing else, but it was better than him being as openly hostile as he had been before. His eyes were soft as he watched him reach the door of the shop and disappear inside before he felt someone looked at him and looked back at Angelus. There was a sensation.. Angelus wanted something. Silent..? Would it be all right if I hold Angelus for a little bit?" Shoving open the door, he looked around, not seeing anyone he knew. There was one person there, btu he didn't exactly know her so he went over to his trusty box and rummaged about for his plush. But that smell was familiar...Aido hummed to herself as she looked at the various Stationary, idly hoping to find something to read, she was getting tempted to break her promise to Aemu and wander off. It wasn't like she'd go far, just enough to see something- The thought never finished itself as Rael brushed against one bare foot and she turned around at the sound of a box opening and froze. It was Jiro, but he only glanced at her and she wasn't sure what she should do, he seemed intent on finding something. Still.... "Hi Jiro," she said softly, hand back on Rael's head for comfort.Silent could only laugh at the angel's expression. " Please. Sah would probably be crushed under the weight." She chuckled. Her smile turned into a huff at the comment about his sisters. " They probably have the right idea." She smiled at the gentle jibes between the two. Her brown eyes fell to look at the top of a brown head. Her hand ran over his hair. She looked to Akiya at the request. Nodding her head, she carefully placed the child in his arms. The trio finally made it to the shop and walked through the door. Angelus felt his being held by Akiay. His eyes went to the angels neck. No scar. Not like the one he had, but he huddled his face in his neck breathing in his scent. He was safe in the mans arms. Just like Silent's arms, he felt peace. Someone was speaking to him. In a casual tone as if they were friends or something. It irked him but he paused in what he was doing, dropping the plush he had managed to grab onto as he looked at Aido carefully. There was something... hmm.. That smell. That hair color... the eyes. Finally, he gave a curt nod. "Greetings, Aido." The knight in shining armor chick. Seems she had grown up since last they met. What was he supposed to say to that. You look nice? are you wearing something new? He shouldn't listen to Mouu when he read those stupid human mags. "Good to see you're doing well..."
Good that was smart. Civil.. whatever. He couldn't care less. But Shouhin said to be civil to everyone. He might as well force himself. But his inner thoughts he kept behind his calm exterior. "And how are you?""My fears exactly." SNickering to himself more than anything else, he pulled Angelus close, stroking his hair. Poor little thing that gone through so much hell... but he wasn't alone. Silent and now Akiya and his family were doing everything they could to make him better. He had a scar on his neck, but his was made by a blade and was hidden mainly by his hair. Feeling him shift, he smiled before they all went inside and saw Jiro speaking to... "Aido?" She's grown since last time he had seen her! Aido smiled slightly as Jiro recognized her, it seemed to take people a moment now. He was even being well, rather nice. She wasn't sure what to expect from people now, especially Jiro, "it's nice to see you Jiro. I'm mostly alright, how're you?" And then the group came through and she went stiff again, briefly giving them a deer in the headlights look before waving weaking at Akiya and Silent, "ara, um, hallo everyone." Suddenly caught sight of her silent friend, huddled against Akiya's neck, "Ang'lus!" she started, she hadn't seen her friend since the incident with Glory and Darkness and immediately rushed over, hesitation and uncertainty gone. Standing on her tiptoes to see her friend better, "are you alright? Is he alright Akiya? Silent?" She looked from one adult to the other worriedly.Angelus let out a small sigh at the caress against his hair. He grasped the mans shoulders tighter. Is this what it felt like to have a father figure? He shook his head. No. He had Jiro. And he had Silent, but his whole home was full of women. No male figure. He couldn't help but look up to Akiya. Even Sah, even though he did have womanly tendencies. His attention went from the mans neck to a older girl. His eyes squinted at the female. They widened in realization. Aido. He tried to hide his face. What would she think of him? A poor pathetic child who got everyone in child and couldn't defeat the master of Glory. He was weak. Weak.Silent didn't know how to answer that. " Well... He's awake and eating, but..." A sigh escaped her lips. How could she tell her that he wasn't the same. The two childhood friends. " Ever since the incident... He hasn't been the same." Maybe seeing Aido would do Angelus some good. He only gave a slight shrug in responce. He was being civil. Civil was not nice. "Well enough..." But when his Shouhin came in, his mouth shut instantly and he went back to rummaging about in his box. Somehow, he had to pick a dragon he wanted to keep... His head hurt for a moment and he sighed before he picked up another dragon. ....."He's all right for right now, Aido.. just.. very quiet..." He nodded as he shifted down a bit so she could see him better. Though it seemed impossible, he did sometimes forget about his height and the fact he towered above most people. "He's very quiet so please forgive him for not saying anything..." In his eyes, he cared for Angelus the same way he did for Jiro. But the thing was, he was getting faint images from Angelus, like he did from jiro and he blinked before he tilted his head up so he looked at him. "You aren't weak, Angelus.." He placed a light kiss on his forehead and sent him an image. If his guess was right, he'd be able to pick it up. The image basically showed him that he held the two tales in the same regard. If Angelus needed him for anything, even if it was a hug or just a shoulder to cry on, he'd be there for him. Make no mistake. But he felt something and looked down at Jiro, who was holding something in his hands. "Jiro?" He was not a pleased puppy, but he wanted to do this. Why? He didn't know. "It's for him." He nodded his head in Angelus direction before he extended the gift to him. "It's nothing much..." Shrugging, he let Akiya take the dragon and he went to sit down by his box and play with his black glowy one. One nice thing he'd ever do for Angelus. Ever. His eyes softened with a deep sense of pride for his little Tale before he offered Angelus the dragon plush. "Will you accept this?" Aido caught the look before Angelus could hide his face and bit her lip, worry clouding her eyes, unsure as to how to take that look of disgust. Was he disgusted with her or angry at himself or...? Her eyes slid to Silent then back to Angelus, stretching herself up further, trying to get on eye level with her friend, "Ang'lus? Ang'lus wha's the matter?" She dropped down, gave Akiya a small nod and moved so that she was around the back of Akiya as Jiro extended his gift and was back on her toes instantly. "Ang'lus, we still best friends, right?" she asked quietly, willing her friend to look at her and she reached one hand up and put it on his. "Why's Ang'lus sad?" She didn't know why Angelus would be angry at himself or think he was weak, or even if those were really the reason's for the other Tale's silence, she just hoped he would answer her.Silent nodded in agreement with Akiya. " He's much more quiet than he used to, but due to the situation, I think he's holding up ok." she nodded. Silent couldn't help but smile as Akiya held Angelus as if he was his own. Angelus needed that, she knew it. Her brown eyes looked into the angels, as if silently thanking him. For everything. Angelus eyes widened. She didn't think he would hear him, but a sigh escaped his lips. He understood. His neck craned higher into his lips. His mind was flooded with an image. Him and Jiro. Sons to the angel. He thought of him that way? He did. He actually did. He gripped his fingers tighter around his shoulders, as if holding on for dear life. The fallen angel also sent an image back to Akiya. Holding him in the same regard as Silent. As a parent. Angelus opened his eyes and looked at the gift. Jiro? Jiro gave this to him? His brown eyes looked to the Tale who was busy playing with his own dragon. He nodded his acceptance. Secretely, he admired Jiro. His being interested him. Angelus sent to Akiya. Brother. he nodded his head to the other Tale. Even though Jiro might not think it, but Angelus did look at him as a brother. Living together made him see the Tale in a new light.
His brown eyes went to the older female. Aido. He couldn't help but smile at the girl. Aido always had that affect on him. " Best friends." He whispered. Aido will always be his best friend no matter what. " Sorry." He tried to apologize everything in just one word, but it would take more than just a sorry. " Not angry. Never." He appeased her thoughts. His head shook in a tiny shake, dark blue eyes serene. The angel really didn't need any thanks. That just wasn't his way. He never did things to get a reward. Only if it truly and honestly called him to do so. Seeing Angelus' reaction made him chuckle. So, his guess had been right. The image connection he share with Jiro also passed to Angelus in the transfusion.. so he was, in some small ways, a telepath like Jiro was. It had awhile to figure out that he was a telepath.. but it was only by pushing Akiya's limits to test his mental strength did he figure it out. It pleased him muchly. Shifting his grip so he could hold him more tightly, he nodded as he got the image. To be Angelus' parent gave him a great sense of pride and happiness. "I'm glad you accept his gift, Angelus." He knew it was damn hard for Jiro to swollow his own dislike to give Angelus something of his like that. But like he had heard Angelus call him brother, his demonic wing gave off a violent twitch, making akiya smirk. This was just bound to be interesting. To hear Angelus speak again released some of the pent up stress and worry he had be haboring since he had woken up this way. He would heal now, he knew he would. Aido smiled, relieved at Angelus' words and gave his hand a squeeze, though she would've much rather been able to hug her friend like in the past. But even though she'd grown she wasn't even near the angel's height, and unless she climbed up him it wouldn't work too well. At his apology she shook her head, "s'alrigh', Ai just happy that Ang'lus' safe and alrigh'," and not angry or disgusted with her, her mind added silently though she pushed it back. Now wasn't the time for any growth induced uncertainties.Silent walked to the side of Akiya and placed her hand on his shoulder. " Thank you." She whisperd. The angel would know what she meant. She couldn't help but be surprised at Jiro's actions. Things may change. No on ever knows what the future holds, but it might be a good one for the two Tales. Angelus' feathered wings slightly ruffled at the hand placed over his. Aido's. It was great to be with his friend. " Thank you." he said to the girl. " You're pretty." He tried to hide the smile behind Akiya's shoulder. At the whisper, he nodded again. "heh welcome." He did understand what she was getting up with those words and he was pleased to be able to do something helpful for them. He was also thinking along the same lines as Silent where his Jiro was concerned.. but time would only tell what would happen next. It was something that couldn't be rushed. A chuckle left him when Angelus tried to hdie his face after calling Aido pretty. Now that was cute. Was muttering in his head as he played with his dragon, pulling out his green fortune one so they could play smash and destroy. He liked it when the twins were there to play with him. This situation was making him edgy.. could they go home now? This was Angelus' thing.. it had nothing to do with him in the least.. so why be here?
He just hoped Akiya would hurry so he could play with Kali some more.Even though her mother had said something along the same time when she'd first seen her after she grown Aido blushed slightly at the compliment and coughed in an attempt to hide it. "Than'kyu," she murmured, falling back on the courtesy Chao had taught her, but she couldn't help a mock glaring at her friend from beneath her lashes for the disarming comment, though the brightness of her eyes assured Angelus that she wasn't angry at all.
The door to the shop jangled as Chao entered, a rather heavy looking bag slung over her shoulder. She blinked at the sight of everyone then smiled, waving with one hand before hurriedly clasping the bag again, "hello all."Silent looked to the opening door. Chao. " Hey there." She smiled at her friend. It had been awhile since Angelus and herself left Akiya's home grounds. It was nice to see the females. Silent couldn't help but heave a sigh of relief. Angelus was talking. Almost as if things were back to normal. Angelus looked to Jiro, noticing his impatience. He wanted to say something, but bit his bottom lip. Maybe he would tell him when they got back home. Pain was evident in the childs features. A flash of pain ran through his neck. He became stiff. A slight wimper escaped his lips. He grown used to it. Ever since Glory had a bite, now and then he would get pains in his neck. He gripped the dragon plushie in his hands for comfort. He opened his eyes after the pain went away and slowly smiled at Aido. "You're welcome." Though Akiya knew that Silent felt rather.. well off cause there were mainly males in his world, but it wasn't so easy to get the females that where there out of hiding. Though if Silent met Lexus.. oooh dear lords, that'd be scary. He nodded to Chao when she came in, since she was holding Angelus, he couldn't very well wave.. or something heh. When angelus got that pain his neck again, he made a face. Annoying... he got it every so often, at the same time that fallen did. and he knew it was cause of Angelus he was feeling it. Bleh, he didn't want this link..not at all...At the whimper Aido bit her lip in response and was back on her toes, peering at the wound unhappily and squeezing her friend's hand with both of her's this time. She glanced back and Rael stretched himself back into physical exsistence then shrugged, giving Angelus something akin to a lop-sided smile, though the Shadow's golden eyes were concerned as well. He liked the winged boy and felt the same unease as Aido when he looked at the wound.
"Hey yourself," Chao said with a smile towards Silent and a nod at Akiya, bah at school making her head home! She wanted to visit with the other Authors. But ah, maybe another time.... She didn't want to leave Aido there as it got darker either, so home it was for them. "Arg, I wish we could stay longer, but we need to head home. Common Ai."
"Aemu..." Aido sighed unhappily, bad timing on her mother's part. She braced her legs and actually hopped up, giving Angelus a breif hug as Rael supported her momentarily before hopping back down. "See you soon." Ducking beneath Akiya's shoulder she made her way over to her mother's side and waved to everyone. "Bye Silent, Akiya, Jiro, Ang'lus."
Chao waved as well, "see you everyone! Hopefully next time for a longer amount of time," shoulder the bag again, and grimacing as a book edge poked into her back, she headed out the door, followed by Aido.Silent nodded and waved goodbye to the woman and little girl. A smile graced her lips as she watched the grown up Aido leave. It was a good thing she brought Angelus with today. Looking to the angel she chuckled. " I think it's time that we say goodnight ourselves." Not wanting to disturb Angelus in his arms, Silent walked over to Jiro. Bending at the knee, she offered her open arms to the boy. " Want to go home?" she asked the child. Angelus waved goodbye to Aido and let out a yawn. He couldn't stay up all day like he used to. Recently, he grew weak quickly and wasn't energetic as he used to be. He hoped that changed. Soon.

[May 1st, 2005] Rabbit Rabbit [A single beginning.]Quote: The Stationary Shop was nearly empty, no one save for Aido and Chao were there, which was sort of expected. Sundays were always slow for everyone it seemed. Chao herself was simply packed herself away in a corner, scribbling away in a notebook with a half made hat perched on her head. It seemed the final quarter of school was beginning to get to the Gaian and she still had weeks to go. But being at the Shop was better than home at the moment, too many distractions there.
Aido was sitting aways away, humming to herself and bent over a book, eyes scanning over the maps displayed on the pages, turning them every so often to look at another page her finger held in place.Shiroi pushed open the door to the Stationary Shop, a small bell chiming her entrance. Miako followed her, gripping Shiroi's hand tightly and stumbling on occasion; she hadn't quite gotten the art of walking down yet. "Hello?" Shiroi called, "Is anyone in here?"Chao didn't even look up, too absorbed in her work to notice the newcomers. The headphones on her ears didn't help matters much.
Aido's eyes flickered off the page at the jangle and quickly she manuvered two scraps of paper into the book, marking her place before she set the book aside and stood up, smiling at Shiroi and Miako. "Hello and welcome to the Tall Tales Stationary Shop," hopefully Linny wouldn't mind her breif take over of his role as greeter. She glanced at Miako and her smile grew a tiny bit. Another Tale! And one she hadn't met yet at that."Hi," Shiroi said, smiling at the child. "I'm Shiroi, and this is Miako. She's a little shy around new people.""Hello." Miako said, looking at the older girl, and her.. halo? Was she a Tale, like herself?Aido nodded her head, "nice to meet you Sh-Ms. Shiroi," she didn't like using the honorifics, even if her mother insisted that you didn't usually call those older than yourself by their first name. Her halo was glowing dimly and hovering a bit above her head, though it seemed to glow brightly for a moment only to dip lower to her head as Aido breifly noticed Miako's attention on it. Truthfully Aido didn't notice the action, nor control it really. Nodding to Shiroi she knelt down on her knees, lessening the slight difference in height between herself and Miako, and offering her hand to the younger Tale, "hello Miako, my name's Ai. Nice to meet you."
Chao finally looked up as the introductions began and jolted softly as she noticed Shiroi and Miako. Dropping her notebook and pulling off her headphones she waved to the two. "Hello over there," she called, standing up."Nice to meet you too, Ai-san." Miako said, grabbing Aido's hand.Satisfied that Miako was going to be okay, Shiroi walked over to Chao. "Hi, I'm Shiroi. Your name is... Chao, right? My memory for names is horrible."Aido blinked, puzzeled by the tag on her name. She glanced to Chao, who smirked and mouthed 'honorific.' Aido made a face at her Author, deciding that she would fine out percisely to then turned back to Miako with a small smile as she gave the other girl's hand a small shake, "would just Ai be alright?"
Chao nodded to Shiroi, "yep! Chao is I. Or... I am Chao," she chuckled and pulled at her hair, her brain felt scrambled from the school work. "It's nice to meet you Shiroi." She looked over to Aido and Miako, "ooo, is that little one a new Tale?""Okay, Ai." Miako nodded, "You came from the book too, right? Are there other Tales too?""Yep, Miako came out of the Tome a week ago. Scared the heck out of me, too. And it's been interesting trying to take care of her, I never was a very good babysitter.""The Tome you mean?" she asked, glancing towards the currently locked study. "I think so.... The Tome is nice to talk to when the Study's open." At the mention of other Tales she nodded, thinking of her friends. "Yeah! There are a lot of us Tales. There's Linny, Viddy, Khia, Ang'lus, Capn' Tybo, Nala, Jiro and a bunch more!"
"You get used to it after a while, don't worry. Second nature, accuried insticts and all that. Aido's been with me..." she paused, glancing at a calendar and chuckling in slight amazement, "for a little over three months now actually." How time flies....Miako's eyes widened at the mention of so many people. "Wow, Ai knows lotsa Tales!" she exclaimed. "But Miako only knows Ai..." She cast her eyes downwards in a feeling of inadequacy. "But maybe Ai eentroduce Mii to some?""Three months? So you must have a lot of practice with that sort of stuff." Shiroi said, keeping one eye on the talking Tales.Aido smiled kindly, "Aemu takes me here alot so Ai gets to meet a lot of other Tales," she shrugged and moved from bending on her knees to sitting crosslegged. "O'course! Soon Mii will know lotsa Tales and if Ai's here she'll introduce Mii to them," she nodded firmly.
"Errr... sorta. Sometimes I think you can never have a lot of practice when it comes to anything in Gaia," she thought about what had happened in the last few months and shook her head gently."Yay! Thank you!" Miako said, clapping her baby hands."That's true. Gaia is so unpredictable, well, always." Shiroi then noticed the clock in the corner of the room, and more importantly, the time it said on it. "Oh, crap! Not good, not good. I'm afraid I have to run. It was nice meeting you! Mii, say goodbye to Aido." Shiroi picked up Miako and hustled out of the store, Miako waving to Aido over the redhead's shoulder. Aido smiled at Miako's happy reaction but then blinked as the younger Tale was scooped up into her Author's arms, standing again she waved, "bai Mii and Shiroi!"
Slightly startled Chao smiled and waved to the two, "see you! It was nice meeting you two!" she called after them before glancing over to Aido, "we should be heading home as well."
Nodding Aido grabbed her book and slid on her newly acquired sneakers, watching as her mother got her own things before the two of them stood and headed out the door.

A deep laugh echoed about the yard as Rico disengaged yet another weed from the ground. "Possessed headphones, hrm?"
"Yes!" Chao snapped in frustration at her twin, narrowing her grey eyes at him and throwing a patch of earth that the roots of one of the paracitic weeds had dragged up. "They refuse to play anything except Must be Dreaming. I should have known that shop was weird."
"Did you try to go back?"
"I can't, Ai's taking a liking to it and won't let me get near it now."
"Tsk-tsk, being ofted by your own daughter already Aeon? Not a good sign. Not a good sign," Rico waved a finger at his sister for emphasis.
Chao glared, both for the use of her real name and her brother's infuriating manner in general. It didn't last though, within a few moments they both dropped their gaze to the earth they were weeding.
"How long until you leave?" Chao asked quietly, grabbing out another weed and yanking it out with unneeded force.
"Few hours, I'm all packed."
"You shouldn't."
"I have to."
"No you don't!" her brow furrowed and she wrung her hands. "Why in Hael's name should you work?"
"I like it, and the money's not bad either."
"But you don't even know where you're going! There could be creatures worse than Heiflia-"
"Ae', we go through this every time. I. Will. Be. Fine. Stop worrying so much. It's not like I'm rejoyicing in the idea of you and Ai' being alone for over a month."
Chao raked a hand through her hair, tugging several long strands loose from her bun. "I know, I know. M'sorry. Traveling makes me edgy. M'sorry..." she grumbled, pulling at another weed.
Rico sighed and went back to the task at hand. -- [to be finished in the morning]

Quote: Lyris sighed as she wandered into the shop, Luna dancing about her ankles, clawing nervous at her robes. There was a soft echo of barking coming after her. Lyris wandered in, plopping down on the floor and sighing as Luna crawled into her lap and scurried up onto her head as a wolf cub scampered in the door.
Barking frantically, Kris scampered into the shop, sniffing at the new surrounding and looking around curiously as his little puppy body, finally fully healed, took off under the tables and chair, exploring.
Akshaya smiled softly as she followed her sister into the shop, noticing the young girl's solemn scowl and passive gaze about her. Lyris didn't seem too upbeat today, not like she had been the last few. Maybe she was becoming how she'd been when she'd first arrived, wavering back into the constant depression and vicious attitude.Nalira felt the snow crunching beneath her as she moved through the blanket, her eyes closed in a half-conscious state. As she walked, the lightning crashed above, illuminating her features. Her honey-brown hair cascaded down to the small of her back, and was tied back loosley, and looked as if it hadn't been brushed in days. Freckles were cropped around her cheeks, which held little to no colour, like the rest of her body. She was as pale as the snow that was piled beneath her. Her eyes were a deep, beckoning amber that faded into the pupil.
Suddenly, a twig snapped from under her foot, jerking Nalira out of her half-conscious state. She glanced around slowly, her heart beating rapidly against her. Nalira placed her hand upon her chest, attempting to slow the beat of her heart. She cursed herself for being so easily afraid, and continued at her original pace. Nalira pulled her jacket further over her shoulders, listening to the gentle hum of the thunder above, the wind catching her hair and blowing it behind her in a mixture of honey and brown curls. Nalira always walked carelessly, letting the winding footpath take her to wherever it pleased.
Suddenly, the Stationary Shop came into view. She let out a breath of relief, smiling at the fast approaching building, advancing forward in at a quick pace. As she reached the door, she slipped in quickly, closing the door behind her with a snap. She flicked her gaze over the contents, letting out a heavy breath.Aido looked up at the sky as she walked, cringing as the sound of thunder cut through the tune of the 'possessed' headphones that donned her ears.
She was alone for once, though not for too long. Chao, having heard that the resident book store was getting their shipment early had headed off, telling Aido to go straight to the shop. She was supposed to meet her there. How long until then? Well, she really didn't know. They'd parted ways before the storm had begun.
With a sigh she shoved her hands into her jean pockets, scarf tugging at her neck as the gust of wind picked it up, strengthening quickly. Catching sight of the Stationary Shop she broke into a jog, heading towards the warmly lit window and barely catching sight of a tall, familar figure opening the door and sliping inside. Nalira's gaze turned to the familliar silhouette as it entered the stationary shop. A smile tugged at her lips, although she slunk back slightly, crouching down into the shadows. She didn't want to be seen, she didn't want to talk to anyone. If she became close to anyone, they would come for them. Just like the came for Lemon.
Tears streaked her face as these memories played at her heart, her breath becoming rapid. She slid down the wall, staring at the ceiling, her eyes travelling over the delicate dips and markings. She entwined her fingers around her jacket, pulling it over her body softly. She gently closed her eyes, her head pounding viciously. She always seemed to have headaches lately. Lyris blinked up at the door, watching as two figures slipped inside; one familiar, one unfamiliar. She watched as the unfamiliar face slipped into shadows along the walls of the shop. She was curious, but in her current state, she wasn't about to pursue that curiousity.
Slowly, she raised a hand to wave at Aido. Luna slinked down off of Lyris's head when she spotted Aido, scampering over to see if Rael was there to play with and protect her from Akshaya's demon dog.
Kris skittered back out from under the table, the wolf cub barking happily at the new faces, dashing over to Lyris and pouncing up onto her, licking her face before scampering over top of her onto a chair and jumping off onto the floor, ending up at Nalira's feet, looking up at her curiously. Just before she reached the door the water came crashing down, freezing her in place momentarily as the sheets hit her. With a shake she sprinted the last few feet and burst into the room, already soaked through.
Blinking she quietly slipped off her sneakers before looking around, waving to Lyris then focusing on the figure in the shadows, eyes momentarily lighting up as she placed who it was.
"Nala!" she called, immediately rushing over to the other girl and bending to her knees as she caught sight of the tears, kneeling in front of her, carefully avoiding the excited wolf pup. Nalira seemed even worse than she had for the few minutes Aido had seen the other girl at Huni's party.
"Oh Nala, what'sa matter?" she asked, putting her damp hand over the other girl's and gripping it tightly. "Did something happen?" Nalira looked down at the little one, smiling softly, running a hand over it's cranium. It was strange how canines were attracted to her so. She entwined her fingers in it's fair, then jerking at the sudden call of her name. She glanced up, letting out a sharp breath.
"Aido .." She whispered huskily, coughing slightly. She shook her head, sitting indian-style on the floor, closing her eyes, still running her fingers through the little canines fur.
"Don't speak to me, don't come near me. I'll only cause you pain .." She hissed under her breath, looking up at Aido viciously, her once amber eyes now a dull grey. Her eyes glanced over the other silhouette slowly, tilting her head. She was slightly intruiged by the being. Shaking her head slightly, she returned her gaze to Aido, her lips suddenly going very dry.Aido blinked, her brow creasing. Nalira was going to hurt her?
No, she couldn't believe that. She'd known Nalira since the Beginning.
"Nala, what do you mean? What happened?" The other girls talk of pain and suffering only made Aido shuffle closer, pulling off her scarf and wrapping around the other girl's neck loosely though she kept one hand on the wolf Tale's as she did, feeling as if, if she let go, Nalira would dissapear. Or bolt. Or some combination of the two.
Rael quickly pulled himself into being and exchanged glances with Aido. Without a word he was off, heading for the linen closet, waving his tail towards Luna in a sort of breif greeting.Kris barked happily, curling against Nalira as she pet him. She was an interesting person. She smiled good, appealing. Not like his owner or any of the other people in their house.
Akshaya settled herself in one of the chairs, just watching. She wasn't up to interacting with anyone right now. She was just to watch Lyris.
Luna blinked, turning again and starting back over to the other side of the room to great Aido. She paused slightly and rub against Lyris. The poor girl was feelin anti-social today. She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling warmth flood through her in rivers as the scarf was gently placed upon her trembling body. She gently picked the wolf cub up, placing it on her crossed legs, continuing her gentle petting.
"If they know about you, they will come for you. They will come for you, torture you, kill you .. Justl like they did to Lemon."
It was known by many that Nalira was quite unstable at the moment. Hell, she was a teenager, her hormones were raging, but to lose your mother is something not even the strongest could ignore. Suddenly, she let out a strangled cry, placing her head on Aido's shoulder and crying. Just, crying. Aido's gasped and began to shake slightly. Lemon was dead? No wait. Dead or lost? The two were very different things and Aido was forever the optimist.
But as Nalira put her head on her shoulder Aido pushed the thought aside for later and wrapped her arms around her friend, falling back on memories of what Chao had done for her when she'd awoken from nightmares or found herself in other pain. Quietly she began to stroke the other Tale's hair, biting her lip to keep herself from speaking, from questioning. For now she just let her friend cry on her shoulder.Kris barked worryingly, looking up at Nalira with question. His Shaya had done this leaky thing before. The water tasted good, and it seemed to cheer his Shaya up when he licked her salty water covered cheeks, so he perched himself up, barking and whimpering softly as his rough tongue gently slipped over Nalira's cheek, licking up the tears as he snuggled against her.
Luna mewled scampering over next to Rael as she looked up at him curiously. She wasn't sure what was going on, and Lyris wasn't paying attention, so she wasn't getting any information from her.She simply cried on her friends shoulder. Her hands lay limply at her sides, the tears burning as they slid menacingly down her cheeks. The meomnt seemed to trail on forever, her whole body contracting, withering, dying.
".. Thank you, Aido."
She whispered softly under her breath, unaware that he voice was cracking as she spoke. Her voice had a slight irish-accent to it, which only seemed to be shining through in her teenage years. She smiled softly as the little one licked the tears from her face, and she pulled back slightly, pushing it back gently.
"Silly .." She said softly, rubbing it's head.Aido squeezed her friends shoulders slightly and offered her a small, smile.
"Nalira... I don't care if they come for me," she whispered, eyes hard at the thought of anyone daring to harm her friend's family. "You're not alone."
Closing her eyes breifly she pulled back slightly, scratching behind the ears of the pup gently. Still, she kept one hand on her friend at all times, her fingers gripping gently onto Nalira's jacket.
Rael looked down, his golden eyes worried as he looked at Luna. Whatever was going on it was obviously serious. Pushing himself onto his back legs his paw like appendages took on more hand like look as she opened the closet and took out several blankets and two towels and balanced them on his back before quickly trotting back towards Aido and Nalira. She stared at Aido gratefully, then shook her head suddenly, her eyes wide and fearful.
"Oh, you have no idea what they are capable of. They .. they are capable of doing such aweful things. I can't risk that, I can't let them take you."
She whispered hastilly, her grip becoming suddenly very hard on the wolf pup, but not hard enough to hurt him. She whiped a stray tear from her face, taking in a deep breath.
" .. I can't let them take you." Kris barked softly, curling his fluffy body in Nalira's lap, snuggling down protectively, lookin around the room. Akshaya smirked softly as she chuckled a bit. Seemed that her little boy had found himself a new friend. She'd probably get dragged back by more than just watching Lyris now.
Luna paced back with Rael, settling down next to Aido, on the opposite side that Rael was on. She mewled, leaning against the young girl as she glanced back at Lyris.
Lyris had stood up, wandering over to the shelves and pulling down what looked like a book, flopping down in that area and opening it up, running her hands over the words. She could read most of them. The temple had taught her well, but there were still several that looked unfamiliar. This was the other side of Lyris. Passive, cold, and anti-social.Aido's grip tightened and she shook her head, "I don't care. They won't take me Nalira. If they come, I won't let them, Rael won't let them." She gestured to her Shadow with her free hand as he padded up beside them, offering the towels and settling by her side.
"You're my friend Nala, I don't mind being in danger if it's for you. It'd be worse to leave you to face this alone. So, I won't," she nodded decidedly, halo glowing softly and whether Nalira knew it or not, there was no chance that Aido was going to change her mind when it came to this. Nalira smiled softly, wrapping her arms around Aido. She just didn't know how much this meant to her, she just didn't know.
"You're the best .."
She grinned, looking up at the others in the room. She tilted her head slightly, sighing heavily. They were probably afraid of her, everyone else was. Looking to the ground softly, she ran her fingers over the little pup softly.
"They have taken Lemon. I think they've killed her." Her voice choked at this, yet she continued.
"Around a month ago, I watched them take her. I watched them hurt her .. They said they would kill her unless I come an join them. Unless I come and be their queen."Kris started barking viciously. Who was this They? He'd rip them to pieces. He stood, padded around in circles, barking his head off before letting a howl rip past his muzzle and plopping back down in Nalira's lap, curling against her, his spine ridge as his eyes scanned the room for any sign of a threat.
Luna snorted, annoying beast. She sighed, ringing around Aido and nuzzling Rael softly before padding back over and plopping at Lyris's side. She had her charge to guard, if no one wanted to play. And she wasn't in the mood to put up with that beast at the moment.Aido couldn't help but smile and returned the hug, happy to see the glimmer of joy. She'd always be there, or try to be there, for her friends. It was so silly that they hadn't realized it yet.
Aido scooted over, sitting next to Nalira and finally releasing the other girl's jacket, satisfied that she wouldn't bolt. She threw one of the larger blankets over both their legs, arranging it around Kris as he settled back down again then lent back against the wall and began to listen to what happened as Rael settled his head on her lap and Luna wandered off.
"That was why they took you the first time then? They want a Queen," she considered this, filing it away for later. "I wonder why...?"
She chewed on her bottom lip, thinking of Lemon, of what someone with the desire to hurt could use her for. "Nala... they might not have killed her." She glanced at Rael and quietly they confered, thinking of the books she'd read and she nodded after a moment. "A hostage is more useful than a dead person." She nearly tripped over the last words herself, but barrled on with her train of thought.
Looking down at the fold in the blanket she poked and prodded at them, "Rael could search. It might take awhile, but he found Angelus when he was lost...." To Be Continued...

[June 5th, 2004~]
[Old friends and new meetings.]Quote: Sin walked quietly into the stationary shop, wondering why she hadn't noticed it's form lurking behind that other shop that she spent so much time in these days. Her kabuki child, Ave, trailed behind her, silently following his mother as he carried a small wicker basket. Inside that basket lay two eggs, his new friends, as his mother had put it. Sin began to poke around the shop, while Ave promptly sat down in a corner to play with the eggs. Aido trailed after her mother quietly as they headed for the Stationary shop, one hand on her shirt sleeve. She let out a small yawn. Maybe it hadn't been so smart to try to go all the way to the Port of Gambino on Rael....
"Common Ai, we're almost there," Chao said, ending her comment with a deep yawn and shifting the binder beneath her arm, looking nearly as tired as her daughter. Stupid finals. Giving her head a shake and attempting to look a little less like her brain was about to explode Chao pushed open the door to the shop, smiling as the cool air hit her face. "Air conditioning, I love you sooo...."Sin turned, dimmly aware that there was suddenly someone else in the shop. What she hadn't anticipated was Ave's rather loud shriek and running tackle of his aunt. "Auntie Chao!" Ave shrieked happily throwing his arms around his aunt who had vanished from his life soon after the House of Noh disbannded."Oof!" Chao took a step back as she was tackled by yet another kid who'd determined she was his Aunt. "Ave!" kneeling down she got a better grip on the Kabuki child and gave him a real hug before noticing the other woman. "And Sin! How are you two?"
Aido gave her head a startled shake and let go of Chao's shirt sleeve as her mother was suddenly tackled by a boy with wings. She looked from him to the other woman in the shop and cocked her head curiously, who were these people?Ave stared at Chao, "Why did you leave?" He demanded, his wings ruffling slightly, and in an irritated way.Sin had carefully retrieved the basket of eggs, and stood before her friend, looking at her apraisingly. "Don't tell me that you went and adopted a kid or anything crazy like that." But Sin already knew that Chao had, because what else would explain the girl lurking quietly in the shadows, away from Ave and Sin's happy smiles. Sin sighed, Only Chao. Chao let out a guilty laugh, "m'sorry Ave, I got wind that my brother was in Gaia, I had to go find him," feh, not like her twin actually stuck around that often, "when I got back there was no one left at the house of Noh." At Sin's comment she looked up, "well, yes. And you're one to talk anyway," she sent her friend a playful glare and stood, slinging an arm around Aido's shoulders.
"Sin, Ave, this is my Daughter, Aido, Ai this is Ave and Sin. I've known Sin for a very long time, very long, I told you a little about her, remember?" She smiled at the other girl, she was one of the few people who she'd known both before and now in Gaia. "And Ave I've known since I first stopped in at the House of Noh."
Aido smiled tenatively, "it's nice to meet you, Ave, Auntie Sin."Sin smiled slightly, "It's nice to meet you Aido. I never said that I was your aunt." Ave detached himself from Chao and moved to poke Aido's halo. "It's pretty."Sin turned to Chao. "Something happened at the House of Noh, everyone, Schala, every, just left. I came home one day and it was all abondonned. I didn't know what to do, so I came back to Gaia. I've been staying at my old place." Her referance to the small appartment where she lived with the many creatures that she had picked up over time made the eggs in the basket shift slightly. "Oh, this is Luke and Elemra. They haven't hatched yet." Aido blinked, "but if Aemu's Ave's Aunt, aren't you mine?" She tugged at a sleeve, obviously thinking about it before her halo reflexively swivled out of the way of Ave's fingers, sending a wave of cold up her back and shifting her attention to Ave.
With a slight laugh she shrugged at Ave and shivered slightly, "I don't think it likes to be touched. It always does that whenever someone tries."
"I wonder what happened..." she muttered quietly before looking back to up to Sin, "really? Huh, you two should come over to our house for dinner sometime, we rarely get visitors."
"Ahhh...least they're just normal eggs. I think I may have found a pair of possessed headphones," she chuckled, thinking of the headphones that were sitting on Ai's desk at home. "When'll they hatch? Any idea?"Sin shrugged, glancing down at the eggs fondly, "Haven't the slightest, I just hope that I don't have to keep Luke in water, he's supposed to be fish-like. According to Wolfie and Uni, they're supposed to be mice-like. Although Elemera is a little fiery, even for an egg." She giggled. "They're Ave's new project." Ave stared at that halo. He just had to touch it. Quite suddenly, he made a lunging dive, sucessfully knocking Aido and several books down. Sin blinked, "Posessed... headphones?" Chao watched with a slightly evil grin as Aido was knocked down, she knew they'd be fine. Besides, it was fun seeing Aido get pounced. Grinning at Sin she nodded, "yes, possessed headphones, they refuse to play anything other than Must be Dreaming by Frou Frou even when they're not plugged in."
Aido yelped and hit the ground, grimancing as several books pegged her, her halo manuvering as far away from Ave's fingers as possible without escaping from her head completely. Why in heaven's name were people so entranched by the stupid thing?!
"Don't!" she yelped, batting his hands away and trying to pry the boy off of her as gently as she could, though the desire to simply kick him off was almost overpowering.Sin boggled at Chao, "That is just a little strange. Did you ever wonder if they were just 'special' headphones. I read about them. They play only the bestest of the best songs, apparently." At the sudden exclamation of Aido, Sin turned just in time to see Ave attempt to pounce on the taller girl. She had to smile, this was truelly amusing. Ave sighed, and pushed himself away from Aido. "Sorry." He said, offering her an hand. Obviously, the evil halo wanted nothing to do with him. Ave resolved not to let Aido play with his wings.Aido sighed in relief when he got off her and took the offered hand, pulling herself up, "s'alright, it just... hurts when people try to touch it."
"Really?" she raised an eyebrow, "interesting.... Still, it's more fun to think of them as possessed."Sin smiled slighly, "I'm sure a good exorcism could get the Frou Frou demon out of them if you really wanted it out of there." Ave blinked slowly, helping Aido to her feet. Suddenly it dawned on him. "I'm... sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you!"She shrugged and smiled, "it's fine, you didn't mean too."
"Nah, Ai won't let me near it, the Frou Frou demon will have to stay." Glancing at the clock Chao sighed, "darn, d to be off. I need to get some studying done." She held up the stuffed binder unhappily, "finals and such," quickly she gave her friend a hug and gestured to Aido.
Nodding Aido quickly gave Ave a hug then trotted over to her mother, "bye Ave and Auntie Sin! It was nice meeting you."
"Yep, bye you two!" She stooped down and gave Ave one last hug before trotting to the door. "Stop in at our house or give us a call sometime, 'kay?" pushing open the door the two made their exit.

[June 6th, 2005] Many apologies for how long this is taking to write [Echoing timbre.]
Aido let out a small huff of air from her place on the roof and rolled over, bi-colored eyes taking in the overcast sky. Rain again it seemed. At least now the rain was welcome it would give her a better excuse to stay inside and not explore than the promise she'd made her mother.
["Please Ai," Chao had nearly pleaded the previous Friday.
"Aemu-"
"I know you love to explore but please, just for the next week, don't. Stay near the house. This is really important for me Aido. I can't fail these finals. Promise me, it's only for the next week."
Slowly Aido had sighed and nodded. "I promise, Aemu."
A bright smile had spread over her mother's face and the Author had enveloped the Tale in a hug.]
Looking back on it Aido really wasn't sure whether or not making the promise had been the right decision, her mother wasn't even studying and she was bored out of her skull. Chao herself was roaming around the house muttering to herself about 'pros and cons' for something or other she'd cooked up. Aido had decided to stay out of it until Chao seemed in a better state to talk to.
A door shut quietly and music began to drift from her mother's room, a tell tale sign that Chao had returned to her studies for the moment.
Aido yawned again and shut her eyes, putting one hand to the 'possessed' headphones that hung around her ears, humming along softly. Around her feet the Shadows stirred slightly, raising themselves from the little nooks and crannies of the roof, their tiny, wraith like bodies drifting and swirling about in the slight breeze.
Rael watched them calmly from Aido's side, ears alert and flickering slightly. Suddenly his head rose -Someone's here.-
Aido's eyes blinked open and she pulled the headphones away, ceasing her humming and standing up quietly; The Shadows immediately ceased their motions and dropped away, fading back into their usual places.
"Who is it?"
Rael tilted his head then let out a small bark of a laugh, -I think it's the post actually. That's odd, they usually hate coming up here.-
"I know, odd, huh?"
-Mhm, shall we see what they want?-
"Mmm, let's," in a moment she was moving towards the edge of the roof with practiced ease. With a hop she'd jumped from the roof onto the still unmoved table then onto the ground. Rael simply reentered the Shadows, pulling himself out of Aido's as she rounded the corner.
"Hello there," she called warmly to the man in the brown uniform who started slightly at the sight of the halo-d girl and the Shadow creature at her side.
After staring for a moment he mentally shrugged, when you lived in Gaia you got used to bizarre sights pretty quickly.
"Yes, I've got a package for one 'Aeon Luaier.'"
"I'm her daughter, Aido, I'll take it," Aido said, tilting her head. It had to be from someone close to Aemu if it were under her 'forbidden' name.
"Right then, sign here please," he presented her with a clip-board and a pen and she signed her signature quickly.
"It's pretty heavy, would you like me to get the dolly?" he asked, walking back towards the truck.
"Rae-" she was cut off as Rael sent her a nasty look. He was not going to be a packhorse for something of Chao's, thank you!
"Er, I mean, that'd be great, thank you," she said, smiling at the man, "I'll get the door open." As she entered the key to the house into the lock and opened the door he pulled a rather large cardboard box out of the trunk and with a thump set it on the dolly.
Aido swung the first door open and helped the man navigate to their living room where they both had to push the heavy box off the dolly.
"Thank you," Aido called as the mail man departed, he simply smiled and nodded and Aido turned her attention to the box.
The knowledge that it was probably from some close relative Aido felt no guilt what so ever opening it before her mother found out. The teen probably hadn't even heard the man arrive and Ru would be upstairs with her mother.
Kneeling by the box she nibbled on her lip. During the week she'd taken to experimenting with her abilities, trying, almost desperately, to get used to traveling through the Shadows.
It seemed to be working, to a moderate extent at least. She hadn't passed out the last time she'd gone from her home to Gambino [that was the only time she'd attempted to go outside the range of the forest, as much because waking up half soaked in sea water hadn't been a fun experience and her promise to her mother.] The question now was, what else could the Shadows do?
Rael sat by her, golden eyes watching keenly as Aido reached into the boxes shadow and brought up a handful of the void.
"Now...?"
-Mhm....- he bobbed his head in a nod.
Her hand clenched and with it the Shadow straightened out, solidifying after a moment into what could be passable as a very crude knife, possible made of obsidian.
"Did it work?" Aido asked, panting, eyes firmly shut, brow knit closely together in concentration.
-Yes!- Rael let out something akin of a laughing bark of pleasure, -good job. It seems stable, open your eyes.-
Aido cracked one open then the other and her face split into a grin. "It worked! I can't believe it!"
-I told you it would. Now will you be a little more willing to explore your abilities?-
Aido ran one finger over the knife. "Maybe...." Straightening up she split the tape and glanced at the return address. Yuki and Kadae; her grandparents.
-We should go on a congratulatory walk,- Rael chimed in, interrupting her thoughts.
"We're not supposed to worry Aemu," Aido said, half glaring at Rael as she opened the box further only to reveal another box; a wooden chest to be precise. With a sigh she began to cut away the cardboard box, vaguely wondering how her grandparents had gotten the chest in the box in the first place.
-We won't go far. Besides, you going crazy won't help your mother study, now will it?-
Aido paused and glanced at Rael, "you're just as stir crazy as I am, aren't you?
-...yes, yes I am. And I'm man enough to admit it. Now may we get out of this cramped place?-
She looked up at the wall, thinking for a moment, recalling her exact promise, before nodding slowly, standing as a smile pulled at her lips as she decided the box could wait. "Yeah, as long as we stay close."
-And close is a relative thing anyway....-
With a rush of energy Aido climbed onto Rael and the two disappeared into the nearest shadow.
It was only a few minutes later that Chao wandered downstairs to find a half split open cardboard box lying in the living room and finished extracting the chest from the box.
She smiled fondly and ran one hand along the wood. She knew this box.
"I wonder why Mom sent this..." --
Rael raced across the forest floor, easily navigating his way through the trees. Aido was pressed against his back, eyes shut, taking in the feeling of the wind rushing over Rael's fur and against her face.
As he began to slow her eyes cracked open and she eased herself up, looking around at the new area they were in.
"Where are we?"
-Close to the river.-
Aido nodded and soon the sky came back into view. The clouds had darkened drasticly and the wind burst up, blowing her hair into her face momentarily as they paused at the top of the riverbank.
Leaning off Rael she curiously looked down into the fast moving depths of the murky water, listening to it gurgle as it ran quickly over various rocks, fueled by recent rains. A shiver crawled down her spine and her hands curled into fists, bunching Rael's fur between them.
"This isn't the end." The tone was more than simply angry or frustrated, it was venomous and full of cruel triumph.
She began to shake.
Glancing up Rael quickly moved further away from the river's edge, back into the fringe of the forest.
"Let's head for the source," her voice cracked slightly; overhead a flock of crows took flight into the air, cawing loudly as their dark forms speed across the sky.
Rael bobbed his head in a light nod and sped up slightly, keeping just in sight of the river's edge.
But soon the trees thinned yet again as the pair arrived at a large, thankfully placid pond, the source of the river.
Feeling her shivers subside and the lump in her throat lessen as curiosity rose up within her like a wave, easily pushing aside the unexplainable emotions for the moment. She never knew whether to attempt to attempt to dissect them and figure out the reason behind them or simply be thankful they'd subsided. More often than not she simply opted for the later.
Easily she dismounted from Rael, thankful that the tell-tale headache decided not to appear this time, just a old tired feeling, like she'd run a mile earlier that day and had yet to truly rest. A ledge jutted out across the pond, providing a good place to look into the dark, but placid, depths.
At the edge she sat, joined after a moment by Rael, and her halo began to glow softly, providing the extra illumination that the blocked sun couldn't.
-There's something in there.-
"Like fish?"
-Bigger than a fish- his keen eyes flickered about the shadowed depths then he sat back, resting against Aido. -I think they like the glow, just stay still for a few moments.-
"They?" Aido asked, but did as Rael suggested and didn't turn her head to look at her Shadow companion.
-Mm.-
It took a few minutes, and soon Aido was wishing she'd left her head in a better position but an answering glow began to light up the depths of the water and soon two shapes were becoming more and more clear as two beings approached the surface.
The smaller, and brighter, of the two was the first to surface. It arched upwards, barely coming out of the water before plunging back in and taking to swimming about.
The larger being rose with a careful grace to it. It's snout breeched the air and it's wing like fins made a steady, powerful push and it turned, glowing form slowing to a stop just to the right and front of Aido.
Job seemingly finished her halo let out one small flicker of light then collapsed on her hair, just barely refracting the light that bounced off it's silver surface.
Aido's gaze was locked on the glowing creatures. The fish like one was still whisking about below the surface but the darker shaded one seemed content to stay where it was. With a blink her eyes flickered down the length of it before a small tentative smile poked at her lips and she waved lightly to the creatures, waving worked with nearly everyone after all.
"Hello there," she called. The creature seemed to pause, the circlet of light that ran along above its head brightened momentarily before one the of the long stalks that drifted upwards from its back stretched out further, breaking through the water level into the air and waved back in forth, mimicking Aido's movement.
Feeling warmly received, and hopefully understood, Aido plunged onwards, "my name's Aido and this is Rael," she gestured to each of them in turn, "do you two have a name?"
The stalk seemed to waver and curiously Rael maneuvered his tail to meet with it. Aido watched on quietly.
-They have many names it seems. It'd probably be best if you simply gave them each one yourself- the Shadow murmured after a moment.
"Oh..." leaning back against her hands she surveyed the two. "The Golden Carp and Sika." She said decidedly after a moment.
Rael blinked and tilted his head and Aido went on to explain.
"The Golden Carp is from Wicked a book Aemu read to me when I was little. It was a myth that a Golden Carp lived in Sarima's well. Liir was locked in there once while playing hide and seek and the two supposedly talk. And Sike simply seems to fit," she shrugged. It sounded slightly silly aloud but she was still satisfied.
Carp and Sika seemed to be satisfied as well as Carp resumed it's swimming and Sika reached out its stalk towards her. Shuffling forward Aido met it halfway and the stalk glowed warmly.
At that same instant the first few drops of rain began to fall, growing in speed and number by the second.
Rolling her eyes towards the heaven's Aido stood and mounted Rael's back, waving to the two creatures, "I'll come back and visit sometime, it was nice meeting you Carp and Sika!" and with that she pulled back on her headphones and Rael was off.
The two beings lingered momentarily, watching as girl and Shadow speed off before turning back to one another.
--Life has sprung anew from Dark and Light.--
--The Crossroads?--
--Malice.--
--But, twice born anew? Unheard of.--
--Unheard of from benevolence but not from malice.--
--True.--
--How long can the cycle last?--
Something seemed to pass between the two, the feeling of unknowing what was to come after the addition of yet another variable into something so set. After a moment they dove beneath the depths of the river yet again. -- Soaked but happy and no longer feeling stifled the duo arrived home. As she began to dismount Aido sneexed and wiped her nose, feeling the weight against her ears shift.
Suddenly the music rose in volume and she was forced to drag her headphones off her ears. As her hands touched the surface there was a slight popping noise and clingint to her shoulder was a small pup.
Rael gave a snort of laughed as pup and Tale blinked curiously at one another.
"Er, hello there, are you what was possessing my headphones?"
The pup merely barked and nuzzled Aido's hand as she brought them up to get a better grip on the pup.
"That's good then, Aemu will be happy to know you're not just a ghost. Do you have a name?"
The pup barked again.
-He doesn't- Rael supplied as he slid back into Aido's shadow.
Holding the pup against her chest Aido made her way towards the welcoming door of home, "is the name Remedy alright with you?" she asked, the pup yawned and curled up against her chest and Aido smiled, "that's good then."
Chao Journal, Almost done with finals and I think I've figured out a way to go to Ar'Idil and not leave Aido by herself. Ai herself went out exploring today. She assurees me she didn't go far, decided to believe her for the sake of my sanity and possible voice. We also recieved Mom's trunk! Can you believe it? She's so clingy to things. I love it though. It's full of old costumes they let her keep after acting gigs and the like. Aido and I went nuts and now she's walking around looking like something out of an fantasy adventure movie and I feel spiffy in my tophat. Pictures may be collected later! Ep, the timer is going off for dinner. I shall write more later, time permitting. ~Aeon [x] Click for extra entry Art :3

Grimacing Aido fell into her bed, legs protesting loudly. Somewhere in the room her CD player was playing quietly, instrumental music floating through the room.
Gnawing on her lip she rolled over and wiggled until she was half off her bed and that much closer to her self and reached up, motioning for one of the Shadows to rise and tilt the tome she was trying to reach into her waiting hand before falling back as she squirmed back onto her now thoroughly rumpled bed.Aido--June 14th Dear Journal, Does everyone simply call their journal 'journal' or are names given? If I use up more than one do I give you each separate names? I think my mind had been far too mangled by riding horses today to think much further on that. Horses have muscles where there should be no muscles, did you know that? It's very uncomfortable, especially after riding on Rael's back for so long. Despite the horses, who are actually very nice when one is not riding them, I've been having a good time at the 'camp' Aemu decided to send me too. Rael and I both agree that she probably just wants to know where we are, it's a bit silly though. We always come back and we've never gotten lost. It's probably because she's a mother, which must account for quite a bit of her worrying. But back to camp: I met two very nice people, they're CITs [Counselors in Training] and because I was dropped in late they showed me 'the ropes' [no ropes were actually involved]. Rein is very nice and patient, he explained to me how one should always be kind to the Seamstresses and Semesters as they have power over your costume, I tried to explain that I really didn't know why I should be mean in the first place but was cut off. Victoria showed me how to ride a horse, how to hold a sword, how to swing a sword properly (a lesson that took far longer than one would expect) and the basics of jousting and swordplay. I think I'm going to love jousting once I adapt to riding my horse who I've names Dusk. She's very nice and doesn't mind Rael at all. I think I should go to bed now, I can't keep my eyes open and the letters are getting slurred. ~Aido Aido--June 15th Dear Journal, It was much easier to ride today. Our instructor let us put on the padding and joust. I was paired up with a boy named Dillon. I think he likes Vic; he kept looking at her and saying he'd win jousts for her. It's almost sweet. On the other hand it is not a good idea to joust against someone who is pining. They hit hard enough to bruise and get very angry when you push them off their horse. I really don't think he liked me. ~Aido Aido--June 17th Dear Journal, Sadly enough, I've been confirmed, Dillon seems to dislike me very, very much. And not just because I pushed him off his horse it seems, as I've apologized for that (though, isn't that the aim of jousting anyway?). It was pouring and, as the counselors refused to let us ride the horses the 'knights', as we're known to the rest of the camp it seems, decided to attack the 'bards', who'd arrived early for once. It escalated into a massive mud fight that left all of all coated from head to toe. About halfway through I was struck not with mud but with a rock disguised as mud. A painful experience, I assure you journal, avoid it if you can. Strangely enough the perpetrator was not, in fact, Dillon, rather it was one of Dillon's friends, who immediately rushed over to apologize. No, what has convinced me of Dillon's dislike [hatred? Aemu said it was a strong word to use, but maybe it's apt anyway] of myself is; while I was reeling in my patch of mud I was kicked, laughed at and had mud thrown in my face by Dillon. His friend, James, assured me that this is very out of character for Dillon but offered to help me get revenge anyway. Being coated in mud and soaking wet does not make for good decision making. We stuffed cold mud down his shirt. He squealed 'like a little girl' as James said. It was very fun and strangely satisfying. Poor James, he got ranted at, but didn't seem to mind. I thanked him then quickly went off to the mud fort to help with the attack. I suppose now I'm doomed to forever deal with Dillon's bad attitude but, ah well, maybe I can avoid him? Camp only lasts a few more weeks anyway. ~Aido

[June 24th, 2005~] It is the roleplay that never ends~ x3 another 'your message is too long' rp <3 [The secret place.]
The red head was seated on one of the plush arm chairs in the shop, a book in one hand, Paestri on her lap. She was reading as the infant slept, the pink haired baby had been doing a lot of that, sleeping that is and it made the red head curious about it. But maybe all babies slept a lot and only Linny didn't take as much naps? Huni wasn't sure, but she couldn't very well ask Paestri now, could she?
"Ow, please don't poke it Aemu."
"We're almost there Ai, how hard did he hit you anyway?"
"...not that hard."
"Liar." Chao frowned, shaking her head as they turned the corner, heading for the Stationary Shop, "I can't believe you two went at it like that. Hopefully the Stationary Store has some more ice."
Aido didn't reply, settling for cradling her bruised jaw against the rapidly melting ice pack.
Chao pushed open the door and looked around, waving as she noticed Huni while nudging Aido towards the kitchen gently, "hey Huni, is it alright if Aido took some ice from the kitchen?" her eyes flickered to Paestri, "and who's the little cutie?" she asked, lowering her voice slightly.
It was at this moment that Linneas decided to come inside after his 'practice session' with the mop. He had been working on learning how to use it as a weapon to be used not just against dirt. He made his way from the kitchen's backdoor into the shop front and saw Aido and... why was there an ice pack against her jaw?!
"Ai, you okay?" he asked in concern.
Huni nodded to Chao that she was free to do what she wanted, though the concern for the female Tale was evident in the red head's eyes.
"Oh this?" the red head smiled fondly at the pink haired infant, "This is Paestri, I... found her in an abandoned bakery that disappeared the next day."
Paestri heard the faint voices and pried her pink eyes open. She gave a small yawn before resting her gaze on Chao.
At her name Aido looked up towards the redhead Tale, "Linny!" she said, smiling brightly and reflexively pulling away the icepack. All together it was a bad idea as pain flared up again from the large already darkening bruise was splayed out along the right side of her jaw. Immediately she pushed the icepack back against it with a grimance.
"Go put some extra ice on that before it starts to swell," Chao admonished, pushing Aido gently towards the kitchen.
Aido nodded and headed that way, eyees flickering to Linny and then back to the kitchen, waving him over. She wanted to talk to her friend, it felt like she hadn't seen him in forever.
Chao waited for a moment, making sure Aido was heading for the kitchen and not Linneas before walking over to Huni and kneeling down to get a better look at the infant before looking back up to Huni.
"Ah, the oddness that is Gaia strikes again, hm?" she said with a knowing nod of her head. "She's adorable, her name's Paestri?" she smiled gently to the infant and waved her hand slightly, "hello then Paestri."
Like a puppy, Linneas followed after Aido into the kitchen, his brows knotted together in worry. "What happened to you?" he asked, not wanting to beat around the bush. Normally, the boy wasn't comfortable about prying, but this was different! Someone had hurt Aido and whoever it was will pay! Thank goodness he had started to learn how to fight. Even if it is with a mop.
He pulled out a chair for his friend as he set off to the refrigerator to bring out an ice tray for Aido's melting ice pack.
"You took the words out of my mouth." Huni chuckled as she put the book away to give Paestri more freedom. "I'm not sure what she is, though. She's certainly no ordinary baby, and I haven't heard of any bakeries where children just pop out of the oven."
Paestri didn't understand much of what these big people were saying, except that the one that wasn't her mama had said her name. She cooed to Chao and reached out with her chubby fingers as if returning the greeting.
Aido couldn't help but smile at Linny's tone as she took a seat. He sounded almost protective, a tone she didn't mind if it came from her oldest friend. She set down the icepack and loosened her ever present scarf slightly from around her neck, "it wasn't anything bad Linny, Aemu signed me up for a," she looke dup the ceiling, trying to remember the right words, "'Renaissance Camp' I think it's called? Dillon, my partner for today, and I got a little," she shrugged slightly, embaressed by her own actions, "'out of hand' while we were practising?" she rubbed at her nearly numb jaw, remembering the lecture they'd recieved from their instructor after Chao and Dillon's parent had been called.
She sighed, "it was my fault anyway. But anyway," she looked up and smiled slightly, "how've you been Linny?"
"You know, this being Gaia and all, I wouldn't be surprised it there was one at one time. But maybe Paestri was just meant to be found by you there? Maybe once you found her the bakery was done it's task and thusly dissapeared because of that?" she mused aloud. Gaia was so confusing.
At Paestri's coo she smiled and gently took one of the little girl's tiny hands.
Linneas frowned, whatever this "camp" thing that Aunt Chao signed Ai up for didn't sound very nice. Especially if it got Ai hurt. "Are you going to go back to it?" he had wanted to ask who this Dillon was, but decided not to.
"Oh I've been okay, I think. I've been practicing too, but just by myself though." He shrugged, "I've talked to Captain Tybalt a few weeks ago and got to know Jiro too. He's pretty good at fighting even if he is younger than me." he added sheepishly.
"Mmmm, maybe, like the way I was meant to write in that Tome and receive Linny." Huni nodded, "But still, I can't help but feel a little... I don't know, unworthy? I mean, it's not like I'm the best mom around." she sighed, her gaze moving towards the kitchen where her son was.
Paestri gurgled in glee at Chao's touch, and her pink eyes shone in delight. Her fingers curled around one of Chao's as she sucked on her free hand.
Aido looked up pensively then nodded slowly, "yeah, I like it there too much to let him get to me. Anyway, I think Dillon's been wanting to do something like that ever since I got there anyway. Maybe now he won't do it again?" She played with her scarf and looked back at the tabletop, her own words sounded hollow, even to her. She didn't understand Dillon's inate dislike of her and it bothered her.
She sat up again, giving her friend a curious look. "Practicing fighting you mean?"
Chao looked to her friend in concern, giving Paestri's fingers a few strokes with one of her own. "What do you mean Huni?" She thought her friend was a wonderful mother!

"Well, I wouldn't call it 'fighting' exactly, sorta like, swinging my mop around but I have to picture hitting this target thingy." Linneas began, he wasn't really sure what he was doing other than practicing the basics that Jiro had taught him.
"And maybe if mommy will let me, maybe I can join this 'camp' thing. So at least if this Dillon tries to hurt you, you won't be alone." he offered. He wasn't sure if he could be of much help or use, but at least he was offering his support.
"Well... Linny has been, well, I can't describe it in any other way but rebelling. It's like he doesn't want to listen to me, he's changing... he's not as open to me as he was. The only one he talks to is Ning, and the Fandangle refuses to say anything that Linny doesn't want her to say." Huni sighed, "Are all children like this?" she asked, her jade eyes suddenly resting on Paestri.
Paestri turned her attention to her mama, she may not have understood the words, but she could understand the sadness in them. Still clinging onto Chao's finger, Paestri babbled to Huni, as if trying to comfort her.
Aido swung her legs slightly from her chair, imagining Linny swinging his mop around and smiled. Camp wasn't much different, except they usually had wooden swords instead of a mop and were either trying to hit one another [when they were wearing padding of course] or a real target.
At his offer her eyes brightened and she looked up, "you'd do that?" she wasn't sure if she wanted her friend to go just because of her, espically when he didn't even know what the camp was like, though the company would be muchly appreciated....
Chao looked up, thinking, "it sounds normal actually, isn't this what usually happens when children become teens? They rebel, get mood swingy and the like?" she looked towards the kitchen to where Aido and Linneas were talking. "And they're both teenagers in Tale time I suppose...."
"Yeah, that is, if you don't mind me coming." Linneas added, realizing that Ai might not want him around. It was normal for Linny to put the feelings of others before his, and even though Tybalt had encouraged him to do what he wanted, he couldn't do that all the time. It just wasn't in his nature.
"Yeah, you're right, I should have known it was too good to last..." Huni sighed, "Linneas was always a sweetie and I guess I expected him to be like that forever. But my little man's growing up..." the red head smiled wanly. Then she turned her attention to Paestri.
"You won't be growing up anytime soon, right?" she smiled, nuzzling her nose against Paestri's.
Paestri giggled at what her mama was doing and wondered if all big people did stuff like this.
"How are things with you and Ai, by the way?" Huni whispered, leaning in close to Chao.
Aido shook her head quickly, "of course I don't mind you coming! I...just didn't want you to feel like you had to or anything..." she looked to the side, continuing to play with her scarf, she just wasn't good with dealing with people doing things for her. Still, "I really would like it if you came Linny," she said looking back up with a greatful smile.
"Maybe it would help you with your training too?" she said with a blink, suddenly realizing something, "I haven't even told you what the camp's like have I?"
Chao looked on fondly and wondered how her other self and the Aerandir were doing. She really needed to write....
At Huni's question she blinked and looked back to Aido and dropped her voice as well. "Ai and I? We're...alright I suppose? It's mostly the same, save she wanders off with Rael more and has decided that she doesn't need to tell me where she's going. Not that she ever did, but when she was little her tiny legs couldn't carry her that far. When I ask half the time she simply shrugs. That's partially why I signed her up for camp. As awful as it sounds, now at least I know where she is for some of the daylight hours. And hopefully she'll learn a bit more about protection so I can stop worring all the time that she's going to be kidnapped of something horrible like that...."
Suddenly she seemed to realize how she sounded and laughed quietly, running a hand through her long hair, "wow, I forgot how easily it is to fall into 'worried babbeling mother' mode."
Relief flooded the boy when Aido said she didn't mind if he came along. The last thing Linneas wanted was to make Ai feel bad, or worse make her dislike him.
"Yeah! That would be great!" he nodded, "So, what's camp like?"
"You signed Ai up for camp? What sort of camp it is?" Huni asked in interest, maybe if it was still open she could sign Linneas up for it. She had noticed the boy had been wanting to spend more time outdoors than inside.
Paestri tilted her head as she stared at Chao's long hair. Her mama didn't have long hair and the baby wondered how it would feel, so she reached out for it.
Aido smiled, "it's really nice! Our instructor said it was for people who wanted to work in renaissance fairs, which is where people dress up like it's the middle ages, with knights and bards and everything," after her first day she'd asked Chao what the middle ages were and had been treated to a pretty through explanation by the teen on the more fantisful elements that went into Renaissance fairs.
"The part Aemu signed me up for is mostly for learning horseback riding and how to joust, which is harder than it looks cause a lance weighs a lot and you have padding on and you're on a horse, but once you get into it it's great! But there's sections for learning costume design and bard... stuff." She shrugged, "they have camp at a different time so I haven't been able to talk to them. But there's also swordplay practice, which could help with your training right?" she tilted her head.
"Yep. It's mostly for teen's who want to work at Renaissance fairs," Chao said with a smile, "horseback riding, jousting and swordplay stuff, or that's what I signed Ai up for as I didn't think she'd like sewing/costume design things as much or the other stuff offered. It's still going on if you're interested," maybe Linny would keep Aido out of trouble....
Feeling a tug on her long hair Chao blinked and smiled at Paestri, and lent down a bit so the little girl could look at the dark strand, "hey Paestri, don't tug too hard 'kay?"
"Wow, that sounds fun!" Linneas chirped, "I'm guessing you get dirty, but still it sounds great." the boy nodded enthusiastically, he had taken a particular interest in the costume designing and things that required him to work with his hands so long as it didn't involve cooking. The boy could never get the hang of culinary matters, except with the microwave that is.
"Did you get hurt in the jousting? Or was it in the swordplay?" he asked, he'd get Huni to sign him up there so he could be with Ai.
Huni thought about it and decided she would sign Linny up, "I'll ask Linny if he wants to join it. I don't want to force the boy after all." she added, mainly because she hadn't the heart to do something like that.
Paestri just blinked at Chao, what was the big person saying? But even if the baby did decide to yank hard, it wouldn't have been painful. She had such a gentle touch to her.
"It is," she nodded, "sometimes we get dirty, but the only time it was really bad was when someone started a mud fight on a day it'd been raining." She smiled at the memory.
"Sortof during swordplay; Dillon and I weren't in armor and I tripped on a rock and ran into him and he got angry and swung his sword at me and I blocked and tried to apologize but he got even madder and..." she shook her head, cutting off the babeling stream of words, "it kind-of went from there...."
Chao looked back to Huni and nodded, "yeah, being forced into camps is awful." She turned back to Paestri and couldn't help but smile and give the girl's hair a tiny ruffle, she was too cute.
Linneas frowned as Ai narrated her little 'scuffle' with this Dillon person. He wasn't normally a prejudiced person, but he couldn't help dislike him instantly simply because he hurt Aido over something as simple as a misunderstanding!
"Well, I just hope we don't run into him during the camp..." Linneas mumbled, though he was certain he wouldn't be doing anything rash. Not that he could do much of anything after all. "Think I can join the costume making? That sounds like fun." he declared, changing the topic as he began to feel uncomfortable about the whole Dillan thing.
Paestri giggled as the big person ruffled her hair a bit, and tried to duplicate that on Chao with what little strands she had in her grasp. Needless to say, she didn't quite get the desired effect.
"But Ai likes going to that camp, right?" Huni smiled, trying to reassure herself that signing Linneas up was a good thing.
"Hopefully..." but very, very doubtful as neither of them had been expelled from the camp. Aido decided not to mention that, besides, there was a chance Dillon had switched classes or something.
"I bet you could," she tilted her head, "they're always looking for more people who'd be interested in it because more people signed up for the jousting and stuff. It's really cool what they're going to be making though, sheilds and fancy dresses and all these awesome things. I think that there might be a minture festival at the end of it all."
"Yeah, Ai loves it, save for the fight thing. And it's a pretty varied camp, I'm sure there'd be something that'd catch Linny's eye," she said with a reassuring smile which turned into a slightly funny look as she felt her hair being played with again as Paestri attempted to ruffle the ends of her hair.
By now, Linneas was determined to attend this camp, and his Huni wouldn't let him, he'd get Uncle Syrie's permission instead. "I can't wait! When're you going back there?" he asked, golden eyes shining in delight. "Maybe I can make you something, Ai?" he added a little shyly.
Huni nodded, then noticed what the infant in her arms was trying to do. She gave a soft chuckle, "She's getting a little more active now, she usually just takes nap after nap. Curious, eh? And let's hope she doesn't end up giving you split ends." she grinned.
Paestri was oblivious to what Huni and Chao were saying, there was something so intriguing about Chao's hair. Something she couldn't quite put a finger on, an essence of sorts.
"Um... hopefully in a few days, Aemu said not until the bruise heals but that'll be foever, so I'm hoping she'll just forget about that part," she said with a slightly michevious smile. "If Auntie Huni lets you go I'll find a way to convince her to let me go with you." Or she could just sneak out of the house, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that.
At Linny's offer a small blush burned on her cheeks but she couldn't help but smile, "that'd be really nice of you Linny," she murmured after a moment, bi-colored eyes flickering to the table in embarassment as she willed her blush to fade. Awful, she was awful with recieving things! Even if they were only offers.
She blinked and suddenly looked up, eyes bright, "oh! There's something I want to show you Linny!" Pushing back from the chair she headed for the door, "Aemu, Auntie Huni, would it be alright if Linny I went out for a bit?"
"Ah naps, I didn't appreciate those until finals came around again and I was scrambling for sleep," she sighed whistfully then shrugged in reply to the hair comment, "meh- I haven't cut my hair in forever anyway."
As Aido came in Chao fixed her daughter with a look, "I don't know...." She looked to Huni, "what do you think?"
Linneas felt his own cheeks crimson lightly at Aido's smile, at least he had gotten her mind off that Dillon person. When Aido had told him she had something to show him, the boy tilted his head curiously and followed after Aido into the shop front.
"Don't we always appreciate the things we can't or can hardly have?" Huni chuckled, remembering how she often she felt like she would have killed just to get some sleep last year.
Linneas joined in with his own request, "Please mommy? Please? I won't run away or do anything bad like that." He promised, not like he really would in the first place. But lately, his mother was getting suspicious of his actions.
Huni turned her gaze to Chao a little hesitantly, but thought that Linneas did deserve her trust. He had never run off on his own without leaving a note after all.
"I... suppose so. But be back in one hour! And no later than that!" she declared and raised one finger for emphasis.
Distracted for a moment, Paestri gurgled and babbled in the same tone Huni had taken. She even went so far as to copy Huni's hand, though her fingers didn't stay quite as straight.
"Thanks mommy!" Linneas grinned.
Chao nodded and rolled her eyes at the two Tales, "if it's alright with Huni it's alright with me, but no getting into fights, getting kidnapped or anything of that sort, and don't talk to strangers," she glared lightly at Aido, making sure her daughter caught how serious she was.
Aido gave her mother a slightly exasperated look before she caught sight of Peastri and laughed at the little girl's mimicry then waved to her warmly. "Thank you! An hour's great. We can take Rael," the Shadows were faster but who knew how that would work with Linny?
Grabbing onto her friend's hand she led him out the door and nudged at her shadow with her toe. After the door chimed behind them the Shadow stretched up, growing to the size of a medium sized horse, big enough for both of them to ride. Rael looked over to Linny and nodded in appreciation. It was one of the Tales he reconized as favorable, good.
"Linny this is Rael, Rael this is Linny," she said, motioning to each in turn as Rael lent down so the two of them could mount.
With a big grin, Linneas followed after his friend and waved to Huni and Paestri. "Rael?" the boy wondered and soon found out who or rather what it was. He stared at the shadow for a few moments before he tentatively climbed onto the pseudo-horse.
He had half-expected to fall through, but other than a little instability on his part (as he had never ridden a horse before), Linneas found Rael quite solid. "You could do this with your shadow? Way cool!" he declared.
"Well, I trust that they'll be back in an hour, where do you suppose they're going?" Huni asked her friend as she gently tickled Paestri.
Paestri waved to her brother and the other small person he was with. "Baaaa!" she called.
Rael shifted slightly, tiny tendrils occassionally whisking off from his body back into the main shadow beneath them or around Linny's ankles. They felt strangely cool, as did Rael's entire body. Quite different than the warmth of a living horse.
Aido waved a last time through the shop window then climbed in front of Linny, giving Rael a rather fond pat. Several thick tendrils of shadow wrapped around in her hand in response before making their way back to Rael. She nodded absentmindedly at Linny's words, thinking of where she wanted to go and quietly communing that to Rael, who was pleased with the choice, "mmhm..." she blinked, catching onto what Linny had said, "er, really? You think so?" It was all 'normal' to her by now.
Rael stretched beneath them and with one fluid movement was off, heading away from Barton, towards the woods of Durem.
"I do too. They're probably heading somewhere in the woods near our house, as far as I know that's Ai's primary exploration grounds. But as to what they're seeing I haven't the foggiest."
It was all very new to the boy, he hadn't seen much of Gaia as he had kept to the Stationery Store most of his life. If there were more extraordinary things out there, he wanted to see them first hand. He held on tightly to Ai as they headed for the woods of Durem.
"Linny doesn't go exploring much, maybe it's because I never encouraged him?" Huni mentioned, as Paestri suddenly gave a yawn and snuggled up against her to take another one of her numerous naps.
Aido was nearly the exact opposite of Linny, the entire woods held a feeling of familarity to her; but there was forever the feeling that there was more out there just waiting to be found. For now she was simply happy to share her findings with her friend.
Gradually Rael slowed as they approached a fast moving river. At the sight Aido shivered and Rael turned, troting easily along a trail they both knew. Soon the trees thinned and a medium sized placid pond came into sight. A small piece of earth jutted out over the water, forming a small ledge. Before they reached it Rael stopped and lent down and Aido slid off, giving herself a shake to clear her head and wake herself up from the lull she'd fallen into. Even though the headaches and such she used to get from riding Rael were mostly gone she still felt tired from the trip and strain of having Rael carry them both.
"Maybe, or maybe he just wasn't interested? Aido's been exploring since she could move, crawling included." She smiled and chuckled, "if Linny wishes it Aido will gladly drag out on a few explorations."
Huni laughed, "Yeah, I'm sure he'd like that. So, tell me, where and when can I sign Linny up for that camp?"
By now, Paestri was feeling sleepy again, even though she had just taken a nap a few moments ago. She doesn't know why, but her lids are so heavy and soon, she is dozing off.
"You okay?" Linneas asked when they arrived, he had noticed Ai had grown silent but decided not to ask while they were on Rael. "And what is this place?" he added, looking around.
"I think I have their phone number written down...." pulling up her satchel onto her lap she began to rumage through it until she pulled out a black bound sketchbook. Flipping to the back she gave the blank page an annoyed look and began to skin through it until she came to a page where a number was written down in hurried, scrawled script. Math equations and various French vocabulary littered the edges of the page.
Straightening up she looked for something to copy the number onto, "I know they're accepting new people every week until they completely fill up, which I don't think they have just yet. The newer campers usually get an introduction by the older ones and then get mentored, I think by a CIT, until they catch up, that way they don't have a set date. Ai started a few days late."
Rael silently moved away from Linneas to Aido's side as she made her made her way towards the ledge. "This is a pond," she answered quietly, a small grin tugging at her lips as she looked back towards Linneas, "it's also Sika and Carp's home, they're kind-of skiddish," which explained the quiet tone of her voice and why she was minding the sticks that riddled the path to the ledge. Once there she sat down and peered over the edge, halo glowing warmly as her bi-colored eyes searched the depths. After a moment an answering glow began to resonate from the water and her halo dimmed and flopped onto her hair.
From the water two forms began to grow larger and more clear until a small, golden fish-like form surfaced, quietly followed by a much larger creature. What looked vaguely like glowing green tenacles reached up past the water, sending silver ripples skitting across the mainly placid surface. "Hey Sika, Carp, this is my friend, Linny," Aido said, voice returning to a normal volume before sitting back on her hands and looking up to Linneas.
"Well, that's good. At least Linny can do something with all that energy he's been having trouble expending." Huni nodded as she stood up. "I have some paper upstairs, let's go get that while I put Pae into her crib." she suggested.
Linneas followed Ai up to the pond's edge as he watched the unfolding events. He took care to avoid any sudden noise and kept quiet, until he saw the two aquatic creatures surface. His golden eyes widened a bit in surprise and fascination, particularly at the tentacles. "Hello." he squeaked, then whispered to Ai "Which one's Carp and which one's Sika?" he asked.
"Sounds good," Chao replied brightly, standing again and stretching briefly, she'd never really properally sat down and her muscles were protesting. Sketchbook held beneath her arm she simply left her satchel where it lay and followed Huni.
The two creatures paused at Linny's greeting. The stalk that had found it's way above the water extended a bit, moving slightly towards the boy, as if it was trying to get a better look at him. The golden fish brightened after a moment then continued it's energetic swimming around the pond.
Aido leant forward a bit and gestured to the golden fish "that's The Golden Carp, or just Carp," she then gestured to the darker creature, "and that's Sika. Rael said they already had names but that it'd be best if I just added my own, so they were kind-a spur of the moment."
They ascended the stairs, quietly and carefully so as not to stir the sleeping infant in Huni's arms. Wordlessly, Huni opened the door to Paestri's room and a pair of eyes were waiting in the darkness. The red head smiled at Pretzel as the archemeral footnote flew up to the headboard of the crib to watch over her owner.
"Sleep well, love." the red head whispered and kissed the baby before she left for her own room. "Be forewarned, this is going to get messy." Huni grinned as she turned the knob to her room. Messy was right, clothes and books and other knick knacks were scattered everywhere. It was the one room Huni absolutely forbade Linny to even try to clean up.
"I have some paper here somewhere... Aha! Found it!" Huni declared triumphantly as she brought out a small notepad. "Now to find a pen..."
"Hello, Sika." Linneas nervously waved at the stalk. Would they like him? he wondered. "Hello, Carp." he added, "When did you find er, meet them?"
Chao blinked for the merest of moments, the only hint that she was surprised that such a room exsisted in Huni's household.
As the paper was found Chao grinned, "don't worry about finding a pen," she replied as she pulled out a mechanical pencil from her pocket. The teen had a slightly obsessive tendany to carry around writing impliments with her sketchbook as you never knew when inspiration was going to strike.
Taking the paper in hand she manuvered her sketchbook back into sight and copied down the number in slightly shaky, but readable, script.
The owner of the stalk seemed pleased and it imitated the waving motion easily.
Aido's brow furrowed at the question, "hrm... when Aemu was still taking finals, and, er, we weren't supposed to be exploring too far from the house," she added sheepishly. Not that he mother had cared too much, "though really, we're not that far from home. But it was a few weeks ago. I haven't visited as much as I should've..." shuffling forward she ran her hand over the stalk, the tendril's glow increased just a tiny bit at the contact.
"Camp keeping you away?" Linneas asked, and smiled at the stalk's imitation. "And, do they understand what we're saying? Or do you have to speak in a different language?" the questions just kept pouring out, didn't they? Linny was genuinely intrigued by Sika and Carp's presence.
"Great, thanks, let's go back down, I'm starting to worry that you'll get lost in here." Huni chuckled as she opened the door.
For a moment there was no reply and it looked as if Chao really had been eaten by the room. Then there was a small cough as the Guardian found herself on the other side of the room, having walked over to inspect something or other.
"Eh heh, yeah, let's head back down," before she could become distracted again she managed to make her way back to Huni and the safty of the hallway.
"Bleh, yeah, camp has it's downsides, though Aemu was happy. Less wandering is nice in her opinion."
Her gaze drifted to the sky, pondering Linny's questions, "they understand, or at least I think they do, but I wouldn't know their replies without Rael. Sometimes they don't talk to him. They don't talk like we do, with our mouths and stuff." She turned to her friend, "they're really old though. Ancient." A pause and she looked towards the creatures quietly, "the remind me of the Cross Roads. Familiar but...not."

[June 24th, 2005~] It goes on and on my friiiieeendsss~! -bricked- [Sing me the song of the starrs.]Huni laughed at Chao's antics as they made their way down the hall. "I think we have leftover cake in the fridge. You hungry?" she asked, hinting that even if Chao wasn't, Huni still intended to devour said cake.
"Sometimes I wish I could find cool places when I explore. Most of the time, I just find weird shops that mommy says I shouldn't go in." Linny sighed as he sat himself down. "They don't talk with their mouths? Do they talk like Ning, then?" he clarified, the fandangle after all had no mouth to speak of, being a widget and all. But Ning was still capable of speech."Cake is always welcome," Chao replied with a grin.
Aido swung her legs over the side and Sika retreated her stalk. "Weird shops would be fun to explore," she replied with a small grin. "And if Linny ever wants to explore and Auntie Huni doesn't want you to be alone I'm always up for it. It's better to explore with someone else anyway."
-Less chance you'll fall out of a tree or get yourselves kidnapped,- Rael chimed in for the first time in their conversation, his words drifting into Linny's mind, the faintest feeling of a cool breeze accompaning them. It was a first for the Shadow who was so particular about company.
Aido blinked, surprised at the Shadow, "they talk... well, sorta like that. 'Cept just to Rael. I've never spoken to them directly.""Good! Because if not, I'd feel like such a glutton eating it all by myself." Huni chuckled as they made their way into the kitchen. She had been planning to start baking ever since she found Paestri, but she just hadn't had the time to buy ingredients or the equipment.
Opening the fridge, Huni took out a fairly large slab of what appears to be a Brase de Mercedes*. After setting on the table, she went to the drawers got out a knife, and two forks and got two plates.
"Here you go, just tell me how big a slice you want." Huni nodded, slicing into the cake for her own share.
Linneas didn't feel alarmed at Rael's voice, considering that was how Ning first spoke to him. It felt odd to hear someone else though, but when the shadow's words sunk in, he grew worried. "Someone tried to kidnap you Ai?" he asked, concern evident in his voice and eyes.Chao peered at the cake with a slightly tilted head, "ooo, I've never tried it before, so maybe just a smallish piece?"
Aido blinked and looked back to the heaven's quickly, she would never be used to recieving concern from anyone but her mother, "er, no. I don't think so."
-Not yet at least,- Rael grumbled to both of them, golden eyes pegging Aido with a look to which the Tale merely sighed in response."Certainly." Huni nodded, slicing a fairly thin piece for Chao. "I'll get you some water, some people find it too sweet on their first bite." she grins, bringing out the pitcher and some glasses.
"Well then it's a good thing you're taking those lessons at that camp." Linneas stated, sounding older than he ever intended to be. "I don't think I can be of any protection, I don't even know how to defend myself." he sighed.Chao exaimed the sweet cake, and moved the plates and silverware to the table, taking the glasses after Huni had finished filling them before sitting down.
A small smile curled on Aido's lips and she she shuffled closer to lean against her friend, using his shoulder as a pillow. "Linny's a fine protecter..." she murmured, eyes on the water, thinking back to when she was little. Not all protection came from fending off tangible enemies after all.
"Just maybe not a typical one.""What do you think they're doing out there?" Huni suddenly asked, as she sat back down to eat the remainder of her cake.
Linny felt his cheeks grow warm, and this fuzzy feeling blossomed in his chest at Ai's words. "That's a... good thing, then?" he smiled. "Not being typical I mean."Chao nibbled on the first bite of her cake and looked up to the ceiling thoughtfully, "I'm not sure. Talking I suppose. Or riding around on Rael; or maybe just looking at whatever Aido wanted to share."
Aido nodded against his sleeve and glanced up at Linny's face through her bi-colored bangs, "mhm. Very good.""Yeah, that's probably it." Huni nodded, "After all, Aido's a fine young lady, and Linny's the proper gentleman. And they are both just children."
"Thank you." Linneas smiled, his golden eyes peering down to lock with Aido's bi-colored ones. "I don't know if I've told you this before, but I feel much more comfortable with you than the others. Not that I don't feel comfortable with them, but with you and Khia it's different. Don't know why, but it's a good different."Chao smiled over her cake, "mhm, fine young people and all that. Though, they are young teens now, aren't they?"
"You're welcome," Aido returned the smile, and colored slightly as Linny continued, "I'm glad," her eyes flickered back towards the water before she continued. "I really trust you Linny. I feel confortable to be me. It's like you said, with you and a few others it's different. But it's a good different."Honestly, I'm still in denial that he's growing up. It seems just yesterday that he was a baby and now he's actually getting hormones..." Huni sighed, "It's all so... surreal."
Linneas smiled as his own gaze rested upon the waters. He said nothing, there was little else to say. But the silence wasn't awkward, it was comfortable, as if they continued to speak with each other just without the words. "Ai knows that she can always be whoever, or whatever she wants to be with Linny, right?" he adds softly.Chao paused with her fork in mid-air as a thought struck her. Hormones... "Oh dear," she glanced to Huni, eyes wide, "does this mean we have to give them 'The Talk'?"
Aido shut her eyes as they went silent, soaking it in and idly noting that Linny's shoulder really did make an excellent pillow, which explained why she hadn't bothered to move.
"Ai's always known that..." she replied with a light smile, blinking her bi-colored eyes open again, "and Linny knows he can be whoever or whatever he wants to be with Ai, right?""Ugh! Don't even get me started on that, how does one ever go about giving 'the talk'? I had mine in school, and I don't think I'm in any position to enroll Linny now. I can just see it "When was he born? January 5, 2005. And why is he going to school if he's less than a year old?" Egads, what do I tell the administrators?" she moaned.
Linny nodded, resting his head against Ai's as she spoke. He noticed how nice her hair smelled, and how light she was despite her leaning on him. He felt relaxed, like he had no need of proving himself to her, not like the way he felt in his dreams.
With that horrible blonde woman who looked so familiar and so much like him she could almost have been his mother. If not for the fact that he knew Huni was his 'mommy.'
"Do you ever wish sometimes that the world would just go to sleep and only you and some of your friends could stay up and do whatever we wanted?""You're lucky, I got to overhear tales of others escapades then an older friend sat me down when I was tweleve and told me it straight out and finally I got to relearn it in school. I've been trumatized and thusly never want to give it," she shuddered. Remembering just how hot her small face had gotten when she'd been explained 'the facts of life and birth' by Senrai.
She laughed as Huni went on, "Aido's camp offericers asked the same thing, according to their records she was born in 1992."
The weight atop her head felt nice, she could feel Linneas' head move as he nodded and when he began to speak she felt his jaw moving as he spoke, ruffling her bi-colored strands.
His words made her think though, "I...don't know really. With everyone else asleep we'd wouldn't meet anyone new, friend or enemy," she paused, "but it might be nice, if it was only for a little while." "The camp won't ask for birth certificates right? I don't know how I'd be able to forge those..." Huni groaned comically, before shoving the last of the cake on her plate into her mouth. "Hmmm, I'll have to figure out old he is exactly..."
"Yeah, not forever, just for a little while. Forever is too long, and then what'll happen when we get sleepy?" Linneas laughed, "Ever wonder if our shadows get sleepy too?" the boy knew Ai's shadows were special, but that didn't stop him from wondering.Chao chuckled and shook her head, "nope, thankfully they didn't. They weren't even too surprised at Ai's halo, which was surprising in itself."
Aido laughed and nodded, "forever really is too long," she agreed.
"Our Shadows? Of course they get sleepy," she nudged at Linny's shadow with her foot and it stirred to her touch to illustrate her point. "They're around for so long, ages and ages, never really sleeping the true sleep," it almost sounded like someone else was speaking, someone who had been taught about these things, not the young Tale who was still finding her way."Really? Maybe they thought it was some fancy headband. One good thing about Linny, he looks like every kid his age, except he likes to dress fancy and clean things up." Huni laughed.
"True sleep, that sounds too good to be true, don't you think? I feel like we're going to be walking around for ages and ages to come but without realizing just how long it'll be." Linneas agreed, he too sounded different, more tired and more jaded about life. He sounded like the man in his dreams. Perhaps it was the man talking instead of Linny."Maybe. Yes, a fancy, floating... glowing headband," Chao laughed, "well, you never know with Gaians. Half of us seem to know that kids can come from books and Bakeries the other half is completely oblivious."
"Yes, it does feel like that, doesn't it?" She'd taken on a slightly similar tone, yet the optimism and hope Aido seemed to hold was still there, "but... someday, we'll all get a chance to truly sleep, though who knows for how long.""Sometimes I wish I was still part of the oblivious ones. But sometimes I'm glad I'm not because at least my heart won't be as shocked with each new 'quirk' we discover." Huni nodded, pouring herself some water. "Want some more cake?"
"I hope so, being tired is no fun. But I guess when you're with someone you trust and are comfy with, you don't get as tired as easily." Linneas smiled, the boy's own feelings were evident in his words and tone."If we were still part of the oblivious ones we wouldn't have our wonderful Tale children," Chao pointed out with the smallest of devilish smiles, "though that does offer a few upsides, no?" it was clear from her tone that she was joking. However hard it was to care and worry for another, Chao wouldn't have it any other way.
She waved her hand to the offer of more cake, "nah, I'm good, thanks."
Aido smiled warmly and looked back to her friend, bi-colored eyes shining, "as long as there's people like that this path is worth traveling and true sleep can wait.""Mmm hmm!" Huni nodded in agreement. "I guess everything has its reasons, eh? What time is it, by the way?"
Linny nodded, true sleep was something he seemed to look forward to, but regular sleep was a different matter. But as long as Ai was around he felt calm."It must," Chao agreed with a nod, "huh, I'm not sure." Shifting in her chair she looked around for a clock.
Aido smiled then blinked as she felt Rael nudge her leg. Shifting her head for the first time, and gaining a small crack as things shifting back into place, she looked at the Shadow curiously.
-Do either of you have a watch?- Rael chirped, though there was the slightest edge of something to his voice, causing Aido to give him a curious look before his words sank in.
"Oh no, have we been out more than an hour?" she asked, smacking one hand to her forehead gently, she'd completely forgotten about their promise to their mother's and has lost all sense of time once she and Linny had settled in. "Oh gods, they'll kill us if we're late."As much as Linny wanted to stay longer, they had made a promise. That and given Aido's reaction, he felt the urgency to get back on time. "Let's hurry, maybe mommy hasn't realized how long we've been gone."
"Hrmrmrm," Huni continued and scanned the walls for a clock, noting to herself that they had to get one. "Let's go to the shop front, I'm pretty sure there's a clock there, I hung it myself.""Maybe..." Aido said as Rael grew to a comfortable riding size again. She looked around the spot, feeling the desire to stay as well. But a promise was a promise. With a sigh she pulled herself onto Rael's back then reached down, helping Linny up afterwards. Before they headed off she paused, staring at the ledge. She felt like something had just happened, something notable.
"Linny..." She glanced back to her friend with a small smile, "how about this spot be our secret? Our meeting place if things get too much and we need to rest."
"Right," Chao said, pushing out of her chair and making her way to the front, sighting the clock, "wow, 4:14 already." Seeing as the kids had left when it was just after 3:00 they were already running late.Linneas got onto Rael's back with Ai's help and like Aido he too felt the need to have this place kept a secret. He smiled at Ai, "That's a great idea, Ai." he nodded and gave the younger Tale a quick hug.
"We'll give them like five more minutes, I was young once, I know what it feels like to go out and find the time has gone by too fast." Huni suggested, remembering how she often came home an hour late. Still, if she was to instil discipline into her children she'd have to take a firm stand.Aido beamed, glad Linny liked the suggestion as well and returned the hug before settling herself fimly into the riding posistion. Rippling beneath the two Tales Rael took off across the forest ground, traveling at a faster speed than when they'd come this way, mostly fueled by haste but now that they were primarily heading downhill, gravity helped as well.
"True..." the teen nodded and chuckled slightly, even though she was many years ahead in real time mentally she often felt she and Ai were reatively close, maybe only a few years apart at most.
Her gaze traveled through the window and she sighed. At least they'd gotten the two Tales to promise, she knew that, if only for that reason, they'd make an effort to get back relatively on time.Five minutes have passed, bordering on ten before Huni could sense her son was nearby.
"We're almost there..." Linny murmured to himself.Chao had migrated to the window, watching outside to see if she could catch sight of their children.
The Stationary Shop loomed into view and Aido caught sight of her mother and immediately grimanced, they had to be late for her to be watching for them.
Rael slowed as they approached then stopped just before the Stationary Shop door. Giving her friend a worried look Aido slid off the Shadow feeling the bizarre sensation of doom looming closely overhead.Linneas braved ahead, but just before he entered he looked back to see if Ai was right behind him. He gulped then opened the door.
"And were you planning to come back?" Huni began, her tone already in scold-mode.
"Sorry mommy, we didn't have watches and didn't really notice the time..." Linneas apologized.Once inside Aido quickly stepped up so that she was beside Linny, taking the full impact of the looks on their mother's faces and grimancing, "we're really sorry, Aemu, Auntie Huni. It really was just that we lost track of time and didn't think to ask for a watches. We're really sorry if we worried you and that we broke the promise...."
Chao sighed and leant back against her hands and looked back to the clock, "you two are rather late and thusly did break your promise," her tone was scolding but already she was relenting slightly, the Author was still a teen herself and could easily relate to forgetting to ask for things as simply as a watch. Besides neither she nor Huni had asked if the Tale's had watches on them...."What were you doing?"
"Talking and exploring a bit."
"Where?"
"The forest."
"Our forest?"
"Yes." Well, an extention of it at least."That's all you were doing?" Huni quirked a brow as she folded her arms across her chest.
"Yes, I promise mommy. Auntie Chao, don't be mad at Ai, we lost track of time cuz I kept talking." Linneas spoke.Aido vaguely wondered what else they would have been doing but didn't speak the question aloud. "It's not just Linny's fault either, Auntie Huni, I talked just as much. But that's all we did and time passes really oddly when you're talking for a while and...yeah." She shrugged, that was it really. If their Authors wanted to get mad because of that they could.
Chao eyed the two Tales with a well hardened look before sighing, "I imagine the losing track of time was very much something you both shared in. But," her gray eyes shifted to Huni, "our forest is fairly safe and familar territory. They could have been in much worse places if they'd wanted."Linneas looked up at his mother and done something he hadn't done in weeks, he gave her the sweetest, most adorable pair of puppy dog eyes ever. Linny hated to do that, but if it would help keep Huni and Chao from getting mad at Ai, he'd do it.
Huni never had any intention of really punishing them, since after all they went somewhere safe. But with Linny doing the puppy eyes, Huni's intentions of scolding just melted away.
"Alright, I'll let you go with a warning, but the next time we make a deal I expect you to keep your end of the bargain. Same goes for you, Ai." Huni added with a smile.Silently Chao thanked whatever higher beings exsisted that Aido did not know that look.
Aido smiled and nodded, "we will."
"Ah, well, now that that's all settled, we should be off," Chao said with a grin. She gave Huni a small hug then turned and gave one to her godson as well before heading to the door. "Let's go Ai."
Aido nodded and quickly gave Linny a brief hug and a smile, "bye Linny, bye Auntie Huni," with a wave she dashed after her mother and the two left the shop, heading for home.
Out of earshot It wasn't until the pair was nearly home that Chao looked over to her daughter, mind reminding her of why they'd originally headed to the Stationary store. "How's your jaw?" "My jaw?" Aido asked, shifting in the seat of the car to look at her mother. "Yeah, where Dillon hit you, silly." "Oh," Aido put a hand to her cheek. She'd forgotten all about the events of earlier that day. The wound twinged slightly in pain but it was no where near the sharp stabs of fire from earlier, "it's alright. Chao looked over as they came to a red light and frowned slightly. Where the skin had been shaved off was still rather evident but the bruise, which had been causing most of the discomfort, looked days old rather than hours. "Wow," she reached over, gently manuvering Aido's head back and forth to check it before looking back to the now green light and pulling forward. "That's so odd. I thought it was going to take days for that to heal, considering it took, what, two weeks for tree falling the cuts to heal?" Aido shrugged, "I guess." "Hm, maybe this is just one of those 'don't look a gifted horse in the mouth' type situations..." she mused aloud glancing back at her daughter. But Aido had slumped downwards in her seat, face resting against the cool glass of the window. Chao smiled softly and ruffled her daughter's hair gently before turning her eyes firmly onto the road, navigating them towards home.

[The chance with traps.]
"Romeo! My cousin Romeo!" It was an odd cry to hear along the streets of Barton, espically if one added the slightest hint of some unidentifiable accent.
Turning, her bi-colored eyes swept across the street, trying to locate the source of the sound. A dark shape, not exactly sinister, more simply exsisting, though it could be argued that simply exsisting was a sinister action in itself, standing near the Stationary shop's fence provided it and she strolled closer until a face became clear.
With a laugh Aido tried to greet Nalira, but rather than 'Nalira! What are you doing here? Who's Romeo?' what spilled from her lips was, "He is wise; And, on my lie, hath stol'n him home to bed," the words left her her blinking and slightly stunned as Nalira turned to her and gestured to the wall.
"He ran this way, and leap'd this orchard wall: Call, good Mercutio."
Were they still talking about this Romeo character then? But already well known words were rising forth on her voice, which sounded a touch too deep for comfort: "Nay, I'll conjure too. Romeo! Humours! Madman! Passion! Lover! Appear thou in the likeness of a sigh," she clapped a hand over her mouth to stop the surge of words as something clawed at the back of her mind. She knew this all from somewhere but she couldn't place her finger onto where.
"Good Mercutio, hast thou taken ill?" Nalira asked, cocking one eyebrow in her direction, then she laughed cheerfully, "or has our Romeo's flight of love causing a spring of words to blossom through thine throat and out yonder mouth, taking on cupid's voice whilst thine lose thine own?"
"It seems it has," or something else was happening, though possession sounded like a fair idea. Aido let out a tiny strained laugh and moved away slightly.
"Aye, well," Nalira looked back to the fence, "Tis for the best. If he hear thee, thou wilt anger him."
"Yes yes, wouldn't want to anger him," Rael was already in being and Aido quickly hitched herself onto his back, before she could ask him about the odd flow of words they were rushing down the street.
The scene shifted and suddenly where there had been road, there was a only a wall with an alleyway branching out the side.
Rael quickly turned, but not soon enough. Aido's shoulder skid against the wall and before any more damage could be wrought she smoothly leapt off his back, nearly ruining the motion by tripping slightly over her own feet and falling headfirst into the chest of another.
The owner of the chest was shrouded in shadow, as they all were in this dark place, the moonlight only provided a shilloite for her eyes to take it. Large, black wings arched off of its back, causing Aido to tilt her head a take a step back.
"Ang'lus?" she asked curiously, he was the only Tale she knew with wings like this, and it seemed logical that since they were [had been?] near the shop that she'd run into another Tale. Yet, this figure was taller than she was and last she knew Angelus was still much smaller.
Before the figure could answer a voice stirred behind them, a chant arising in a language she couldn't place, echoing throughout the night.
A shiver wormed its way up her spine but before she could dwell on it the figure had her wrist in its grip and was leading her swiftly down the alleyway.
"Where are we going?" she managed as she found her footing again.
"Away!"
She recognized that voice, though it sounded deeper. "Linny?"
He turned back and the moonlight caught his features for a moment, "yes?"
"You look different," she paused, searching his face and nearly losing her footing at the same time, unable to put her finger on just how he was different. Old words drifted back to her and she laughed mirthlessly, "still Linny, right?"
"Still Linny."
The chant suddenly grew louder and they increased their pace, steps echoing loudly against the walls.
"Why are they coming after us?" Aido gasped, looking back to catch sight of what appeared to be a hundred of shadowed faces, each one holding up a torch or a shining pitchfork. She felt her stomach tighten and her hand tightened its grip instictively on her friend's. "They're coming for me...."
"Run!"
"But they'll just take you too!" her heart was jackknifing in her chest, fear and adrenaline racing through her system, but she couldn't turn away.
"You're not the only one allowed to protect others Ai."
Her head snapped back at the new voice, sighting Khia running beside them. Different, somehow, like Linny....
"I know but..." she really didn't have an argument for that. Suddenly she felt hands grabbing at her, dragging her away from the others in a frenzied haul. The mob had caught up.
Her hand slipped away from Linneas' and before she could even get her bearings and attempt to fight back she was thrust into sunlight.
Her bare feet scrapped against warm earth and she had to blink several times before she could see again.
She was no longer on the streets of Barton, she'd found herself standing on the edge of a riverbank, the dark rushing waters looming just feet away. She tried to shuffle back but found her feet bound and tied to something far too heavy and her hands gripped by those behind her.
"Find her and kill her," the words ran like a current through the mass of beings behind her and she shook, trying to look back.
"What have I done?"
The nearest figure, the one gripping her hands, smiled cruelly, "you live, that is but enough." And suddenly the stone that was tied to her feet was thrust over the edge and she was dragged after it-
Bi-colored eyes snapped open as Aido jack-knifed upwards, breathing heavily with one hand clutching her throat and the other firmly gripping onto the slim portion of blanket still covering her. She'd kicked away the majority of her sheets and blankets in the heat of the nightmare, leaving her lying on her bare mattress.
"A dream..." she let her head fall forward onto her chest and eased her grip away from her throat.
-Are you alright?-
She nodded at the glowing gold eyes watching her, "just a nightmare." Her eyes flickered to her clock. 4:24AM was displayed in glowing red. It was only a few hours since she'd stumbled into her bed after delivering Khia's gift.
With a groan of a yawn she pushed her legs off the bed and straightened out her light bed clothing, "I think I'm going to go work on Linny's gift... in the kitchen." There was no way she wanted to go back to sleep now, not with that memory still fresk in her mind, best to shove it to the side and attempt to pick it apart later, if at all.
Rael rose from the Shadows easily and padded after her, casting a last look towards the Shadows that had stirred during the night. But all had settled once Aido had woken.
Shaking his head he followed after Aido.
