Leaning back on the couch with a relieved sigh, Caleb stared up at the ceiling.

"Jeez oh man," he said, drawing out the words. "That was just friggin' weird. Maybe you're gonna have a growth spurt or something, Dru."

"Maybe. Um.... Caleb..."

"I mean, the first time you had a spurt, you went from non-sentient...well, I suppose you were sentient, but that's beside the point...anyway. You went from juice to kid, so I guess..."

"Tha's really inter-stin' and all, but Caleb-"

"Just chill, Dru. I think you'll be okay now."

"Caleb-"

"What is it, sweetie?"

SPLATTER.

The sound of something wet hitting the floor made Caleb jump up in alarm. Had Drucilla fallen off the table? Was she splatted across the floor?

Was that blood?

"Oh my god."

Caleb stared.

It wasn't blood. It was juice. And Dru's overflowing cup was making it spill everywhere.

"That just isn't fair."

Drucilla, looking deeply embarrased and her nerves frazzled, bobbed in the overflowing cup, holding onto an ice cube.

"Am I having an accident?" she asked, her emotions so overwraught that now she was rather deadpan.

"Yes, yes I think you are," Caleb said, picking up her cup and racing for the kitchen. Juice spilled all down his front as he moved, and from what he could tell it wasn't going to be stopping any time soon. He set Drucilla in the sink, watching in bemused frustration as the juice kept coming.

"Try to hold it!"

"What d'you THINK I'm trying to do, you stupid monkey-face!"

"Try harder!"

Drucilla looked up at Caleb in utter annoyance, and submerged herself in the overflowing juice. Better to drown, she figured sulkily, than have to listen to stupid Caleb Monkey-Brains prattling.

Caleb sighed, shook his head, and went for the paper towels. There was a gigantic puddle of juice in the living room, and he didn't feel like having blood-like stains all over his floor.

Running, running, running! The juice is running! By night fall, however, the steady flow of pomegranate juice has been reduced to a slow trickle. What to do about this incessant overflow? It does seem to want to stop!

Caleb sat on the counter by the sink, balefully watching as the juice stubbornly continued its flooding. He sighed, running a red-stained and sticky hand through his hair. He looked like an extra from a cheap horror-movie, positively coated in the fragrant and annoyingly bright-staining stuff.

"This. Sucks," he said dully.

"No. Duh."

Drucilla sat in her cup, looking beyond all fear, annoyance and worry. Her expression was utterly apathetic.

"Any ideas how to make it, yanno, stop?" she asked.

Caleb sighed again.

"Nope."

On a whim, he picked up Drucilla's cup and placed the old kitchen sponge into the sink. He then set her cup back on top of it.

"Better?"

Drucilla simply blinked.

"You," she said formally, "are a dork."

"I know."

Surprisingly, after the sponge is full the excess flow of juice stops. Drucillia's cup is left filled to the very brim, but no more springs forth. Is the worst over?

It was by now very late at night, or by another standard very early in the morning. Caleb, still sitting on the counter, was nodding and jerking back up every other minute. Drucilla was quiet, overdramatic emotions effectively burnt out.

At quarter past two, Caleb fell asleep and also fell off the counter.

WHUMP.

"OW!"

Cursing and mumbling furiously, Caleb pushed himself up and winced, wondering if he'd managed to break anything. It was a relatively short fall from counter to floor, but he had a record of getting injured with ridiculous ease. Testing extremities and satisfied with the lack of damage, he stretched and yawned.

"Well, Dru, how's the fountain of juice comin' along?" he asked, sitting cross-legged on the floor and stretching again. There was no response, and Caleb turned to look up at the sink in worry.

"Dru?"

Getting up and leaning over the counter to look into the sink, Caleb let out a deeply relieved sigh. The juice had finally stopped, thank heavens. Drucilla was asleep, head pillowed against an ice cube. Even in sleep she was still scowling, which Caleb instantly took as a good sign.

"Guess the sponge was a good idea after all," he said. He considered taking her out of the sink, but realized the jarring would probably wake her...he didn't exactly want to be in a different room if and when the problems started again, either...if she got sick, he had to be right there. Right?

Caleb yawned, and stretched back out onto the floor. Drucilla went without a bed, he reasoned as he started to fall asleep. No reason why he couldn't skip it for a night.

Sprawled out on the floor beside the sink, Caleb finally drifted off.

In the morning nothing has changed, visibly that is. Upon waking however, Drucillia will notice that she has gone completely mute. Not a sound or even a harsh whisper can be elicited. Could this be a blessing in disguise? Or something to worry seriously over?

Caleb woke up stiff and sore from his night on the floor, and pushed himself up cautiously. He stretched, and with a staccato crackling a couple bones popped back into place.

"G'mornin', Dru," he yawned, still stretching and shambling around the kitchen looking for food. There was no immediate answer, and so the sleepy-minded Caleb theorized she was probably still asleep.

Drucilla had in fact been awake for the better part of an hour, attempting to scream. She could feel muscles straining and tightening, she knew she was supposed to be making noise...but not a sound. Not a peep.

It was most frustrating.

Dru, pink face gone bright red from her efforts, left off screaming and tried shrieking. When that had no effect, she tried yelling. When that too proved fruitless, Drucilla tried breathing loudly.

No use.

She could hear Caleb blundering around, but since she was still in the sink she couldn't see him. She kicked at her glass morosely. Things lately just weren't working out for her.

"Druzee? You awake?"

Caleb peered into the sink after awhile, eating toast and still blinking sleepily.

Drucilla glared up at Caleb, and immediately launched into a silent - but furious - tirade.

Caleb watched Dru mouthing words with alacrity, an eyebrow slowly arching.

"I'm guessing this can't be good."

Silence is golden the wise would say, but maybe completely mute it a bit extreme. As the morning progresses the young Drinkable's! voice impairement lessens just enough so she can whisper softly. Like that of a soft spoken lady.

It had been a long morning.

Drucilla had bit by bit regained her voice, but after a certain point it had refused to grow any louder. Dru had not taken kindly to this, and her usual stream of complaints, whines and occasional curse words were cut to half-volume.

Caleb, though still deeply concerned for the girl, did not refute the fact that not having to listen to Drucilla shouting and screaming was a bit of a welcome change.

"Any change, hon?"

"Why don't you come down here and say that to my face, butthead! Of course there's no CHANGE, I can barely talk at all and I bet you don't care and what if I'm stuck like this forever and don't you laugh at me I can kick your butt, I'll bite yer nose right off Caleb! Caleb! CALEB! PAY ATTENTION CALEB!"

Caleb sighed. Even at half-volume the kid was still a fiery tempered creature.

"Alright, alright, sorry I asked..."

The young Drinkable!'s predicament doesn't improve as it had been in the morning. In fact, it's exacerbated something more. With each outburst the strain of her whispered yelling causes her face to glow an eerie pink. A shade similar to that of the rain from the party.

"Dru, you're gonna have an aneurysm. Calm down."

"I will NOT calm down! I sound like a wimp and no one'll ever listen to me and I hate this it's prolly all your fault you don't take care'a me Caleb-"

Caleb twitched and his expression darkened.

"Hey."

Drucilla hesitated, realizing she'd just struck a nerve, but then plowed on nonetheless.

"It's true! It's your fault this is happenin', I'm prolly real sick an' you don't even care that this is happening!" she said, body tensed and expression furious, voice straining and cracking in its quiet state.

Caleb whirled to face the pomegranate girl, looking alarmingly livid.

"Don't you dare say that to me, Drucilla!" he said, his voice raised effortlessly over the child's.

"IT'S TRUE! IT'S TRUE IT'S TRUE IT'S-"

"Drucilla, be QUIET!"

"MAKE ME!"

"Oh, I will MAKE you, you spoiled, nasty-tempered little....glowing....aw, hell."

Caleb anger died off at the advent of this new weirdness. Maybe Dru had been right. Maybe that rain had been radioactive.

Drucilla, instantly disliking the expression on Caleb's face, tried to peer down at the juice's sloshing surface to see some sort of reflection. Her angry expression was exaggerated and twisted, and there was an unmistakable pink glow shining from her face like a beacon.

"This is just ridonkulous."

"I agree. I think it's time we did something."

"Like what?"

"Panic, maybe."

The glow only grows stronger with Drucilla's arguing and any annoyance she carries throughout the day. Sometimes her face lights up brilliantly like a Christmas tree light and only dims to that of a garden light when she's calmed. Warning: Sleeping close to her is not advised if you are sensitive to light.
