Anastazi sat in his study, frowning over the books from the last month's shipments. At a knock on his door, he looked up.

"Come," he called, his eyes narrowing. He most definately did not have an appointment...that meant this would be bad news.

Sure enough, the door swung open and there stood Serefina's Tutor, looking somewhat pained. Anastazi checked the clock on his desk. Yes, it was time for her lessons. That girl...he raised an eye at the Tutor, his expression knowing.

"You lost her again, then?"

"Yes, Lord Anastazi, just on the outskirts..."

It was clear they'd held this conversation many times. Anastazi simply sighed, pushed back his chair, and slung on his overcoat in one fluid movement. "Very well. Alert the stables to have my horse saddled up, along with my guard's."

"Er..." The Tutor continued to stand there, fidgetting. "Yes, about that, sir...she kind of...took your hunting saddle."

"She WHAT???" Anastazi's eyes could have just gotten a touch rounder...

"She took your..."

"I HEARD you the FIRST time! Get out there and have them use my day saddle, hop to!"

The Tutor scurried down the hall and away from Anastazi, thankful to have gotten away with only a verbal repremand.

------

Five minutes later, Anastazi and his personal guard were saddled up, 'Stazi feeling more than a bit annoyed at having his bookkeepping interrupted by his sister's flight. And the day before their trip, to boot! Didn't she understand that everything had to be in order before they left? No, probably not...she had never really been interested in the family economic affairs...just so long as she had plenty of money to spend, she could have cared less. Well, that was fine, as long as she went along with what would KEEP her having money to spend.

He kicked his stallion into a gallop and took off after Fina's bodyguard who led the way.

Serefina nodded "Yeah, actually it did... I might have to look into that." Finally noting how late it was getting. "I'm sorry for taking your time, I best be getting on to my brother, I wouldn't want to delay your trip any"

Her knees digging into the sides of her horse, "I hope to meet you again Rose" The horse instantly pulling away, obviously well trained as well as well bred, her hair flying about her face as she turns the destier tho it shortly came to an abrupt halt as she spotted a very distinct rider coming towards her. "shite"

Hailing the group of riders coming towards them with a sigh, she hadn't found her wimple, she had stolen her brother's saddle and had probably interrupted his bookeeping as well, he spent far too much time indoors. He was supposed to be a good fighter yet she hardly ever saw him practice. She wouldn't run it would just make matters worse anyways.

"It was a pleasure to have someone to talk to, I hope our paths cross again some day. O and one more thing Serefina please don't tell your brother you met me or anything we talked about?" Rose wasn't sure if Serefina had heard her since she had already started to move her horse. She sighed and hope her defiant nature would prevent her from telling her brother what she had been doing.

Not bothering to look back Rose made the horse pick up its speed it was still a wile's way to her first stop but she had atleast enjoyed herself on this trip. Rose smiled to herslf and thought 'who knows maybe the Silver Arbiters would gain a new member that could really move the orginization'.

The ruckus from the crazy chicken lady drew the crowd away from the area Evalie was standing in, and her path to the door of the Bardic Circle was unhindered. So, she walked right in. As she entered the building, a young man looked up from the desk opposite the door.

"Hi," Evalie addressed him, "Is this the musicians guild?"

"Yes miss, it's the outer city branch. Our main branch is in the inner circle, but we can do pretty much anything you need us to here." The lad smiled...she guessed he was around 14...and offerred her his hand. "I'm Kris. Can I help you with anything?"

She had to shift her guitar to a less tenuous grip to take his hand, but did so with a firm, confident shake. Her master had taught her that much, at least, about public relations. Confidence always won out over timidity.

"Actually, I was wondering if there were any openings for a bard? My master said that sometimes houses placed requests here, or even businesses," Evalie's voice rose in a hopeful question as she finished. The boy leafed through some papers, then beckoned her into a back room.

"We'll see what you can do...Master Ormar will take a look at your repertoire." The boy pulled open a heavy door, ushered her in, and shut it behind her.

Anastazi pulled up his horse and slowed it to a walk, seeing his sister just ahead, and another woman departing. He turned to the bodyguard.

"You lost her...and she was THIS CLOSE???"

"Well sir," the man stammered, "She has apparently been on her way back. She was further away before..."

'Stazi's eyes narrowed. Obviously, this man was incompetant and could not be trusted with the safety of his dear sister...

"Enough. We'll talk when we return to the house." Anastazi's tone said they would do more than talk, but the guard felt it wisest to remain silent.

An unspoken cue led his personal guard to stay behind while he approached his sister, his face carefully molded to reveal none of the frustration he felt and much of the disdain. But, mostly, his face held the knowledge that she had to follow his wishes because he had control over something she loved.

One word from him and she would be restrained in the manor while he rode to Laburnum city without her. And her love of Eastern culture made her subject to his will, in this instance.

"Fina, what do you think you're doing?" He asked her, cool and pleasant.

She had heard Rose's last words so she would honor the woman's request, surely it was for an important reason. Her brother approached, and she moved the horse towards his. He had dropped the face, revealing nothing as usual. She mentally sighed, while trying to figure out what tactic to take. Finally just settling on the truth, it was less likely to get her into trouble. "I got bored, that tutor won't teach me anything I don't already know" Blowing her hair out of her face before she continued, her blue eyes welling with tears. "I just wanted to go riding"

The tears shimmering at the edge of her eyes only adding to her attractiveness, that was one of the main reasons she would be consdiered a good wife someday if she was ever tamed anyways. 'Fina's hair glinted in the fadiing sun as she held her brother gaze. She knew she should've behaved but the lure of a ride was just a bit too much for the beautiful young woman to take sometimes and she had to go out, she had at least resisted the urge to go hunting...that was something wasn't it?

"Your Tutor," he said, "has been instructed to teach you things that you need to know. And I am quite certain you have not learned eveyrhting there is to know, my dear sister. and you know full well that you have plenty of time to go riding. What YOU wanted, I'm sure, was to go riding without your bodyguard."

He appraised her, horse, saddle, outfit, and all.

"And I suppose you have a good reason for taking my saddle instead of your own, as well?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 06, 2004 1:25 am

"B...but why on Gaia would I need to know why Westerners are superior to Easterners? That seems sto be all he drones on about" her lower lips trembling slightly as she looked at him, admittingly the fact she could escape without her bodyguard had held that appeal as well but she had been severely bored.

Serefina winced slightly as she watched his eyes take in her ragged appearance, while she was dressed to the nines, her wimple had been lost, her hair was in a total state of disarray and she was riding astride. "Actually, I do....It works better to guide the horse like this and she still haven't bought me a regular saddle, each of mine are side saddles and I dislike them"

She knew she was being a bit brassy but either he would punish her by leaving her at home or he would not. Maybe he would just laugh off her courage for standing up to him,not that she held out much hope for that. He didn't exactly like anyone defying him, tho she suceeded on occassion.

"If that's all he talks about then he has disregarded his intsructions." 'Stazi's eyes narrowed at her. "Perhaps we shall have a proxy sit in on your lessons from now on."

Her hair was actually rather pretty like this, so he didn't mind her uncovered head. When they got to Laburnum, she'd have to be more presentable, but for now, he would let it slide.

"You raise a good point, Fina," He acceeded, a slight smug smile crossing his face as he waited for her surprise to register. It was clear she meant to defy him at every turn. However, he was trained to ride his stallion well, in war or peace, and knew the value of a steed trained to the touch rather than the crop. "As much as it is proper for a lady to ride a proper saddle, there will be instances when you will need more control over your mount. I would hate to lose you to a bandit attack simply because you lacked the skill to control your horse in a side saddle.

"So, if you will give your word that you will ride properly in affairs of state and show, then I will arrange to get you the saddle you prefer for other less important matters."

He eyed the tears brimming over in her wide, deep eyes.

"Oh, and if you don't mind, stop the histrionics..." He grinned playfully, turning his mount homeward. "You know they don't work on me anyhow, right Princess?"

A proxy....? ugh one more person to have to avoid if she wanted some quiet time. Le Sigh....But at least she would learn something interesting hopefully. Then he mentioned that she had a good point, she couldn't contain her shock, her eyes widening just slightly before a big grin caught her face at his next words. Finally he gave in that she should be able to ride astride at times. She almost fell off her horse in her exccitement but she didn't she knew well how to hold herself, but the warm smile she gave him was sincere.

"Thank you 'Stazi' , I promise!!!!" her words a bit more fervert than most would think was really needed but not if they understood how much she treasured her freedom, wether it be literal or simple freedom of movement. She was just grateful at the moment he didn't know about the traveler's pants she sometimes wore when she really just had to move on "Noir', her stallion, that would probably be unpardonable in his eyes.

The tears drying up quickly at his playful tone, nodding and watching the bodyguards gathering around them with a sigh, she would never understand the need. She had been surounded by bodyguards her entire life and not once had anyone tried something. Clicking her tongue, she dug her knees in slightly to the horse's barrel, tho not a actual movement was seen, so precise dis she move.

She didn't bother responding to his comment beyond moving her horse up next to him "So will you tell me now why we are going to Laburnum?" Looking at him carefully, he didn't give things away very often, but if you watched him enough you could pick up small things. Personally she thought they had drilled all of the fun out of him at school, but he had his moments of understanding like the one just now with the saddle.

The ride towards home was quickly being eaten up by the conversation. Perhaps dinner would be ready by the time they got home and would food in his stomach, he wouldn't have time to personally look over her wardrobe and approve it and she could sneak a few things in. Like the kanzashi , not that he would think they were but hair ornementation anyways, but better safe than sorry, one of hte main reasons she had found them anyways. She still didn't think she needed bodyguards however, who would want to hurt her.

*Ippi let out a frustrated groan as she trudged about Cameliard.* I KNEW I NEVER SHOULD HAVE LEFT WIGMUND!!! *she dropped to her knees, and began to wail, making a huge scene. Of course, everyone would notice someone as obvious as her, but she didn't care. She was hungry, tired, dirty, and angry. Why couldn't she have been smart? Her wailing reduced to whimpering in the middle of the crowded street, her long blonde hair wrapped around her in a consoling blanket, and people giving her odd looks. The young alchemist girl didn't realize how tough it was to be out in the world by herself.*

Chaos4546
Mammon had been deep in thought upon the lenght of it's dash. Yet sounds erupting from before it brought the Imp back to reality. Screams echoed down the alley walls to fall upon the Imp's ears. One sounded distinctly human, most likely a man. Yet there were others alongside it, none of which were very appealing. Why were people screaming? Had it been spotted? Were they coming to kill the Imp even as it crouched down in thought. No! They would not catch it! This thought almost screamed itself within the Imp's head as it turned and bolted the other way. The claws upon it's feet and arms resounded through the alley with each movement. No longer was stealth key but had instead been replaced by speed. Mammon had to get out of there before it was seen once more. In truth it did not even know if it had been seen, yet paranoia would keep one safe far better then stupidity.

This ideal would not seem to work in Mammon's favor this time around though. As the Imp bolted down the alley it completely missed the convient turn it meant to make, instead hurtling forward. As fast as it's short legs and arms would carry it the creature ran. All thought had been dismissed in a need to get away. To get far away from the source of that scream that would draw people unto it. Obviously though more thought should have been put into it's run. For without knowing the Imp dashed out into the street, racing across the earth as if the hounds of hell persued it. For only a second Mammon would tilt it's head to the side to allow sight over it's shoulder. Yet another mistake to add to the list.

Mammon felt the impact before actually see'ing it. The Imp's snout collided with something solid only seconds before the rest of it's body followed. Wings spread outward purely by instinct as if to fly away, yet they did nothing more then send it further off balance. Down it fell to the ground unto it's side. Fortunately this provided an excellent glance at what it had impacted with. A person! In the imp's need to excape it had collided with the very thing it sought to avoid. For above Mammon stood a man with short blonde hair with a hat. That was all the Imp needed to go on the defensive. Before the man would even be given a chance to direct his attention downward Mammon had snapped to attention. Wings came together and then out, propelling the Imp unto it's feet. Two quick jumps back would put distance between them, the imp bringing it's wicked claws up in what could have been a fighting stance. What could have been one were it not for the fact it looked quite unsteady toppling on the claws of it's feet. Still, Mammon would say nothing, expecting the man above him to run in fear.

That would be you he bumped into VT...heh....

((Ok, sorry about the delay, power has just been restored over here. ^_^))

What the deuce?

Looking down, Theodore saw what looked at first like a feral child-dog-beetle thing.

Ah!

He squeaked in surprise but didn't run. This was a bit more fascinating than scary. He took his hat off slowly, and decided that food was to wait.

Hey there little, um... thing. I'm not gonna hurt you.

He crouched down slowly, as not to startle the... whatever-it-is, and put his hat back on his head.

What are you, some kind of living statue thing?

Being consumed with curiosity and scientific fascination, he decided to poke it with something. But he didn't want to scare it, so he took a small piece of wood from his bag (once again, very slowly) and cautiously offered the other end to the... whatchamacalit.

*Ippi nodded briskly, then quickly shoved her fingers in her mouth to hush an outbursts she might have. She had a tendency of doing that. She let the hair that had cascaded into her face during her nod remain there, so as not to frighten the imp. She sat there, wide eyed, staring at the imp. "Maybe he could be my pet? No, only golems can be my pets. I am no good with living things," she thought. She whimpered a bit in displeasure, but stifled it quickly. She just stood there, allowing the man to do his work*
