Kira looked at the needle Rivera had just pulled out and heard her words. "What kind of poison is it and what should I do to prevent it from spreading further throughout your body!" Kira exclaimed quickly, willing to do whatever was necessary to keep her from dying. "Where was it embedded in you? If I know that I should be able to drain the blood that's poisoned..." He told her, willing to risk his personal safety so she'd be alright.

"I don't know what poison it is... but I do know that I can't die from poison." She held up her hand, revealing a silvery ring with a single clear crystal. "As long as I don't take off Chloe's ring, I'll be okay..." She shook, falling to her knees. Her energy was draining quickly. "... I've determined the poison... it's only reversible by time..." She whispered. "If I survive for a full forty-five hours, I'll live. But if I wake up before forty-five hours is up, take off my ring. I'll wait fo--" Her voice cut off as her body crumpled to the ground. It took a few moments for her frozen eyes to close, but they did, with a look that almost said death.

Kira looked at Rivera in shock when she dropped to the floor, and just a few minutes ago they had been enjoying lunch. And he had drank from her. "Ri... Rivera..." He listened for her pulse, and found it, though it was as if she had slipped into hibernation. He picked her up gently and set her on her bed, being extremely careful. He felt as though he wanted to cry. He actually didn't feel like it. He wanted to. But the tears just wouldn't come.

Rivera slowly opened her eyes. She had no perception of lost time. Her body was still somewhat paralyzed... it'll take some time for her to get back to her feet again. She couldn't move anything from the waist down. Pushing herself up with her arms, she looked about... the place was empty. Looking down on her hand, she saw that the ring was still there. That's a relief... So Kira didn't have to kill her after all. If she did wake up in the middle, there would be a good chance that she'd be pretty much insane. "Kira?" Is he even in the house? He shouldn't be outside alone. There's a good chance that people are targeting him as well.

Kira walked into the dorm quietly, unaware that Rivera had awakened. His clothes hid a great amount of bandages, as he had suffered from fights he had started out of trying to blow off steam. The fact Kestrel had broken his word, the needle that had poisoned Rivera, all of it had made him go into a strange blur of every negative emotion known to man. He struggled with breathing, a series of broken ribs causing that. He was in pain, emotionally and physically. His arms were bloody messes, and his face was bruised. He looked terrible. Even his wings were bandaged, causing them to look more like angled bones poking out of his back. He slumped into a chair, still unaware of Rivera's awakening, and fell into a deep sleep.

Rivera bit back a gasp when she saw Kira walk in and completely ignore her. He looked like he needed some serious help... but she couldn't spell him without physical contact. And she couldn't get off the bed. Where was Vesper anyway? She couldn't feel her... that meant Ves was probably in the realm of the gods. Rivera wanted to cry... it's been a long time since she's felt so helpless against everything. Trying to keep her mind off of this, she leant her head against the wall and thought about what she should give Kira for Christmas... there's plenty of things she could give him...
Time was running out for Kira.

Kira awoke with a start, coughing and hacking. Blood frothed from his mouth. Between coughs he growled lowly, "Not this again..." He fumbled through his jacket pockets, his body quaking as he coughed uncontrollably, and found a syringe with a long needle. He stabbed the needle through his heart and felt the coughing fit subside. He wiped his mouth quietly, and caught the feeling of Rivera's weak, but active aura. He knew he would probably be killed by Christmas, it just seemed so likely that tragedy would befall him and Rivera on such a day that was supposed to be filled with happiness. He stood and limped over to Rivera. "You're... Awake..." He rasped. Tears were now streaming from his eyes. "I'm pathetic... The day you wake up, I'm battered and bruised, unable to help you in any way..." He rasped again. "This is so unfair... We get reborn and you're nothing but a book with blank pages, and I'm threatened with death if I can't win back your heart!" He sobbed, pain stabbing into his lungs as he fought to control his breathing. He didn't care if she knew something she shouldn't. He was probably going to die anyway, so he just wanted her to know that his death was caused by her goddess. "Your goddess told me I would die if I couldn't win you back... And the time she gave me to do so is impossible for any man!" He sobbed then collapsed from pain, unconscious on the floor by her bed.

"Kira... " Rivera was shocked, but her face did not show it strongly. She leant down over the edge of the bed so she could touch his face, so her spell would work. "Viera Dominus..." The spell of all healing allowed only the kings of Aeterranchise... she was no king, but she was the last remaining heir to the throne. The royal spells were at her disposal. She could fell Kira getting better the moment she cast the spell. Seeing him like this made her sad. Some feeling was coming back into her legs. She could move herself off the bed now. Squeezing Kira's hand gently, her eyees were filled with sadness for him. She couldn't understand much of anything he just said to her... but she couldn't bear to see Kira like this... Apparently, someone took the liberty of changing her into her black silk nightgown when she was out. Prettymuch, it was just a long tank top, with the frilly edges ending seven inches above her knees. That was barely anything. She sighed. She'll deal with this later. Going to the bathroom, she got a basin and a wet towel to clean the blood off Kira's face. The bruises should be gone with her spell, and his wounds be no more than scars. Sitting down on the ground with her back against her mattress, she cradled his head in her lap and gently dabbled at his skin.
"Thank you..."

Kira wept through his slumber, constantly sobbing out two words, "I'm sorry..." He couldn't tell anything that was going on around him. He was in a strange delirium and all he did was weep and sob out those two words while he was asleep. His breathing went unlabored and painless thanks to Rivera's healing, but his emotional wounds were too deep for a simple healing spell.

Rivera didn't know what to do anymore. She finished cleaning up and set the washcloth and the basin aside. She propped Kira up against her chest, trying to think. There wasn't much she could do to comfort him at this point... what was it that he did back then...? She remembered feeling calmed down, but at the same time afraid.... no, that wasn't fear. It was... different... something else. "It's not your fault, Kira... if it's anyone's fault, it's probably mine..." She whispered to him, "You should've just told me earlier... I'll go have a talk with her." Rivera hesitated before she even tried, but some things were not meant to hesitate over. She leant down and kissed him, caressing his lips gently as she held him against her. "It'll be alright... I promise."

Kira's tears were ceaseless until he was kissed. His face fell into a peaceful expression at last as his tears subsided. The strange delirium faded after a half an hour and Kira awoke, finding himself held to Rivera's chest. "I'm sorry Rivera... I shouldn't have let you see me like this..." He whispered quietly. He hesitated before saying the words he would give anything to have returned by her lips. "I love you..." He told her quietly.

Rivera didn't say anything. She didn't want to say something that she regretted. After all, she couldn't understand what love means. She kissed him on the forhead. "Everyone has hard times... it's not unusual. I don't suppose you've seen me break down. At least... I hope you haven't." Rivera whispered. There was that once... and never again will she go through it. If she does, there's a good chance she would be lost to the world forever.
Rivera got up slowly. She sighed. "We need to have a talk with... whatshisname? Oh, right. Shinko... 's that him? And Kes too." She picked a black biker vest ouf of her closet. It's been a while since she's worn it. It's not like she really biked much or anything. She had a shiny black and modified Kawasaki 2k8, but she only just figured out how to turn it on a week or two ago. It was just comfortable to wear. Selecting a pair of black jeans, Rivera pulled them on under her pajamas, then pulled off the black silk nightgown to slip on the vest. Zipping up her jeans and securing all buckles on the vest, she slipped on a pair of plain socks and stuck her feet into sturdy black boots with heavy soles and nearly no heel inclination. "It's about time we made this Birds of Prey alliance back into an... alliance, I suppose. Christmas is when I'm thinking they'll strike next. That when we'll least expect them, after all. So why don't we have our little christmas on the twenty-fourth instead?" She pinned up her hair with a metal clamp so it would be mostly out of her face. It was more comfortable this way if she had to move faster.
"I had a little talk with Chloe... it's obvious that my goddess is jealous that I can love a mortal more than I love her. I do love her... but not in the same I supposed I loved you. I think... this is a test to see if you truly deserve me. I don't know why she would go through all this trouble..." Rivera sighed and checked her weaponry. "Prove to me that you are worthy, then. Believe in yourself a little more."

Kira was unsure whether to laugh or do anything else. He actually found it humorous that a god was jealous of what he had with Rivera. He may not have a god to worship, but he believed that a god should be glad if their creations could find something that they loved more than the god. Kira stood up quietly and reached for his two guns through darkness and light. They both appeared in hip holsters and he fitted Koishi onto his back, the sword in a flamberge form resting on his back. "Yeah... Shinku really needs to stop holding a grudge against us though... How're we going to talk with him if he tries to pull a gun on us again?" He asked, but decided to forget the question. "Regardless, let's go speak with Kestrel first..." He said quietly.

"Sounds good." Rivera picked up her cellphone. She finally got a cellphone! Must be Ves' pick. It had a funky disco pattern that only Ves would like in this age and time. At least it had black next to the grannysmithapple green and very hot pink. "Her phone's off... I think she's somewhere she doesn't want to be tracked..." Rivera murmured and flipped her phone closed. she had a really cheap looking flipphone, but it served the purpose. "Should we wait for her or should we go and look for Shinko?" Rivera didn't even bother to correct Shinku's name. She called him Shinko... and it stuck that way.

Kira sighed, he had a feeling things would turn out badly, seeing as Shinku probably didn't know Kleptos was dead. But he could be wrong, he had been before. "Alright... Let's go find Shinku, he's probably still at his hangout at the racing club, so we'll probably find him there..." He said with a massive lack of enthusiasm.
