Nodding her head, Chris smiled to Kumoru. "You should have more use for it than I do. Considering I don't exactly want to raise an army by planting dragons teeth in the ground." She said with a soft laugh. "There's a couple spells and that sort with dragon parts as ingrediants. It's just foolish though- who'd want to hurt a dragon?"

The mage laughed a little at her allusion, and told her, "Getting spell components often is sadder for the hopeful spellcaster than the dragon, since dragons are usually so much more powerful than we are." He smiled as he closed the book and set it on the corner of his desk. "Dragons do have powerful magic in them, though, if one knows how to use it. But even dragons are subject to death, somehow or another. So perhaps the power I draw upon is even greater." Kumoru rose slowly, smoothing his hands down over his pants out of habit before remembering that they didn't wrinkle upon standing like his robes did. "So you won't have to worry about me sowing dragons' teeth, or killing them for bones or blood or anything," he said in conclusion.

"Wouldn't have worried about that sort of thing anyway, I don't take you to be the sort of person who'd do that sort of thing to any creature." Chris said calmly, looking to Kumoru with a quiet laugh at how he tried to straighten his clothes. He seemed to want to keep his appearance flawless as it seemed to Chris, though it did make her look as if she didn't much care for how one perceived her. After all, it looked like her shorts had been cut off at the knees with a dull razor and the tank top she wore was ment for being outside in the sun in.
"I guess we should get putting the books away then..." She said as she stood as well, picking up some of the books that had just been put down and going to file them in Kumoru's shelf.

Kumoru was silent for a moment; so she thought him a kind person? He figured he was satisfied with that. He often had doubts at what he was and was not, particularly when it came to terms such as "ruthless", "callous", and other things that came close to the razor's edge between the more basic "good" and "evil". He rarely feared himself because of it, though, because he'd been brought up to be largely unfeeling. If he had to, he would go ripping teeth out of a dragon for a spell, but if it wasn't necessary, he wouldn't try. Just like it would matter to him no more than it had to, what Chris thought of him.

Abruptly, Kumoru realized that foreign hands were moving his books towards his shelves. "Er, wait, you don't have to," he said quickly, grinning sheepishly and nearly stumbling over another stack of tomes on the floor as he stepped towards Chris. "My filing system makes little sense to people besides myself," the mage told her. "As long as we get the books up here and near my desk, I can get them filed away on my own." Which meant he was more than a little picky about the arrangement of his library. But he wasn't going to put it quite like that. "Thanks for the offer, though," he added.

"So you file with organized chaos?" Setting down the books, she smiled at looking to Kumoru. "Didn't mean to bother things..." Chris didn't know what was going through Kumo's head, of his own contemplations of himself, though she did think he was a kind person at heart.
"So... what else is there to do then?" A sheepish smile came to her face- she'd seen the lantern that had been gnawing on her thoughts for the longest time, and she felt as if she was simply intruding now.

"Organized chaos?" the mage huffed in mock indignation. "You cannot begin to comprehend the thought that has gone into the organization of this extensive collection of knowledge!" He laughed a little and stepped over a stack of books toward the door, then turned back to Chris.

"Not too much more to do, I don't think," he said. "I mean, I seem to shed books where ever I go around this house, but I'll probably be able to track them all down sooner or later. Would you like anything to drink or eat?"

Scoffing quietly with a smile at Kumoru's impression of someone who was upset, smiling at him as he offered a drink. "Do you happen to have hot chocolate?" She asked hopefully. "You can tell me about some of your spells over a hot drink."
PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2005 6:06 pm

Kumoru nodded and started out of the library. "I'm pretty sure I have some hot chocolate. If not, could you settle for some tea? I know I have enough tea to last me several months."

"Coffee if there's no hot chocolate." She gave a sheepish smile. "I've never much had a taste for tea, but coffee's pretty good if you're used to it." She probably made him think she was weird, forcing a blush to her face, though Chris headed out of the library and toward the dining room before he could see that.

Seeing the lantern, she took a seat at the table a short distance from it. Watching the whisp encircle it and the knife stuck in the table.

The mage followed her down into the kitchen, and went to fill the teakettle with water. Once it held enough water for two, he set it on the stove, turned on the gas, and lit it with a snap of his fingers.

"So you wanted to know about my magic?" Kumoru asked as he walked over to his pantry. He glanced at Chris, then started rooting through one of the shelves in search of hot chocolate mix.

"Yeah, I did." Chris turned to look at Kumoru, smiling cheerfully. "I wouldn't want to be rude to ask something foolish like asking you to do some sort of magic, though I don't see how magic can really help around a normal house... I mean, what place has magic in the modern world?" She asked curiously, not trying to put him down in the least.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 04, 2005 7:35 pm

"Plenty of a place in the world I come from, actually," Kumoru said with a shrug as he withdrew a box of teabags from the pantry, tossed it over onto the table, and continued his search for hot chocolate. "Here, really, magic is used the same way. Either to make someone's life either, or to make someone's life harder. Just like technology, really." The mage grinned a bit. "Except magic isn't something just anyone can do. And it tends to be a bit... prettier."

"Pretty?" She questioned, looking at him curiously. "Like how?" Looking to the lantern, she watched the whisp swirling as if it were hypnotic. Thinking that it's color and vague appearance had some influence from the one who had placed it there to begin with.

"Aha!" Kumoru said as he shoved a few small boxes aside and took out a packet of hot cocoa mix. He shut the pantry, selected a teabag from the box, then took both that and the cocoa over to the counter beside the stove.

"Pretty because the magic draws power from the caster and from the elements around the caster," he explained as he went to fetch mugs. "Spell-casting creates a whole different feeling around the wizard."

"Do you think you could teach me?" She asked hopefully, smiling at Kumoru. "Something simple... Like an illusion spell... I imagine drawings I plot out perfectly in my mind, the perfect sketch of how it should look, but I always fall short because I don't have anything but my imagination. It's always hazy when I try to draw from my imagination, and rarely does my hand want to work with what my imagination has thought up." Blushing slightly at realizing she was ranting, Chris looked away from Kumoru. Hating for Kumo to think she was some foolish person. "I really admire you can do magic. I'd like to see some of it one day..."
