So the b*****d wants to beat around the bush. Fine we can play that game.
Richard leaned back in his chair. He studied the younger man for moment before speaking. "Its very rare for a biologist to change the world Doctor. Biology is not a field that is prone to great upheavals and revolutions such as physics. It is a science of increamental advancement. A clarification here and new drug there. One discovery of crucial drug can impact the world but does little to change it. This is the history of biology. Do you feel you can change that?"

"Feel? No... I know my research will change the world. The potential inside the genetic code is amazing. Not that I'd expect an uneducated man to know that." Moreau said with a bit of a sneer.
"I have never been a man to move in increaments. I take long steps, and cast a large shadow. Believe me." Moreau coughed a bit and smiled. "But I still manage the larger decisions of my company, and many of our inovations in the field of medicine and treatment has come from my research." Moreau leaned back in his chair and crossed his hands on the table.

Richard marveled at the size of the man's ego for moment. All his teachers had commented on the young genius' arrogance but it was another thing to see it in action.
Letting Moreau's unsubtle insult pass him by like a neutrino Richard responds. "The world is full of geniuses toiling away in academia and industry Dr. Moreau. Some produce amazing results others become locked into a cycle or ego and hubris, producing less than the average man. Both can types can talk about the theoritical in such a fashion that causes an average man head to spin off his neck. Has this world changing research of yours produced any tanglible results that the average man can appreacate? Or are we talking theory." Richard pronouces the last word with a hint of displesure.

"Oh we have results. But they'll be more time for that later." Moreau smiled to Richard like a man who knew more than he should.
Waving his hand forward, he continued. "Do you have any other questions for me? Surely the whole thing wasn't about my research?"

Richard smiled, he didn't like the sound of that... one bit.
Producing a small notepad from the inside of his jacket, he slid a pen from its spine and clicked it open. "Of course not, Doctor. Your research is meerly the most pressing topic at the moment, given the setting of the interview. But was can move on if you'd like."
"One thing that I've often wondered about while studying your history was your relationship with your father. Mr. Tristian was all about building the foundations of the bussiness in stable markets and proven products. You've been far more agressive with researching new products and new markets. Does this represent a fundalmental difference between you and your father or is simply continueation of the family's bussiness plan?"

"My father took a small but successful animal pharmasuticals company and expanded it into a multi-national business that serviced the entire industry. He bought out stock in other types of businesses and expanded our horizens. Perhaps he did play it safe on some level, but I don't think that's true. I always thought of my aggressiveness was his inheritance to me, just in a different light. My father expanded sideways, I intend to expand upwards." Moreau smiled in the chair.
Moreau sneered a bit. "Of course, his busy schedule didn't leave a lot of time for wife or children, but that's understandable when there are more important things to secure. He left me a legacy, just as I intend to leave my children a legacy."

Moreau's interest in children presented a new oppertunity and a quandery. If James was to be believed, Moreau didn't leave the island, at least not very often. That meant his chosen mate, Richard doubted the man thought much of true matronony, would have to on the island. But who. No there was only one female name that was mentioned in the same sentance as Nicholus Moreau, "Aubrey Lockhart?" It was a thought that escaped Richard's lips.
Recovering from the slip, Richard continued. "What kind of world do you plan on leaving your children, Doctor?"
Richard took some heart from the fact that the doctor had infered that he knew death would claim him someday. A man that beleived himself immortal did not care for heirs.

"A legacy Mr. Harrison, I intend to leave them with a world that marks my legacy. I don't intend for my works and achievements to be forgotten. Whatever the cost." Moreau smirked.
"As far as Dr. Lockheart goes what of her? She is my fiance, of that I make no secret. She is the only one who could ever keep up with me scientifically, therefore, we'd be best suited for mating and our children will carry our genius." Moreau shrugged, with a smile, he had all of this planned out, and did believe that whatever child he spawned with Aubrey that it would be brilliant. Now, if he could just keep it from being too influenced by Aubrey's softness.

Richard scribbled Moreau words in his little notebook almost as fast as Moreau could say them. He noted that Moreau again refused to speak specifics.
"A true believer in good breeding I see." The comment was offhand, Richard did not expect a response to it.
Richard looked back up at Moreau. "Congratulations then on your engagement then, the news hadn't reached my ears. Have you set a date?" Richard silently prayed for the poor bride to be. It didn't sound like she had much choice in the matter. The word "mate" made the whole affair sound animalistic and not a happy event.

"Not yet, I intend to soon. We are trying to... work out some difficulties." Moreau smiled. "But, aside from that. Things go well at our facilities here."
Moreau crossed his hands. Expecting the next question.

Richard was quite surprised Moreau admitted that his relationship was anything other than perfect. Definitely time to change the subject back to Moreau himself.
Richard was getting comfortable, Moreau didn't seem to be eager for the interview to end. Perhaps he wasn't in as much danger as he thought.
"Your a driven man Dr. Moreau, your also a genius. I believe only one of those is a proven genetic trait. Have you always had your ambition or were you inspired by some one or something?" Richard clicked his pen open.

"That's where I believe your wrong though. My family has always had ambition. Consider the things we've accomplished. You can't deny that." Moreau grinned.
"So one must ask, is ambition genetic as well? Inspired perhaps, but none the less innate, needing just that spark, that drive." Moreau shrugged his shoulders.
Moreau figured there was nothing left that was going to matter at this point anyway. "If you want complete honesty, I found some notes of my great grand-father's scientific research. That was my spark."

"Ambition is not a given among Moreaus doctor." Silently referring to the Doctor's brother. "But it is an age old question of nature vs. nurture. I suppose your interested in that question as well?" Richard considered for a moments and then lauched into another question before Moreau could respond. "On the greater issue of ethics, we are fast approaching the age where children could be tailored to the parent's wishes. Would you consider using such a techinque on your own offspring to guarentee that your children inherited your admirable traits?" Richard could flatter with the best of them and only smirked a little bit as the word "admirable" escaped his lips.
"Your grandfather's research? May I inquire as what it was concerned with?"

"I'm a genetist Mr. Harrison, any engineering a child might recieve would make it no less the fruit of my loins, and perhaps my research." Moreau smiled and put his feet up.
"My great-grandfather's research." Moreau grinned, he had nothing left to hide, Richard wouldn't be going anywhere. "Turning animals into humans."
Moreau waited for it to sink in then continued. "Brilliant, ahead of his time, did amazing things with surgery, fantastic things. Of course, genetic research holds so much more potential, so much more power."

Richard felt the bottom drop out. He was too honest, too straight and to damn cocky. His hand drifted towards his cane which was leaning againist his thigh. He let his eyes widen in shock at Moreau while calculating the distance between himself and Moreau. The doctor's head was out of range unless he stood up which would take far too long. He have to bait the doctor to move closer.
Richard's face recovered as his fingers closed around the cane. He wasn't usually a volient man but this Moreau was far worse than any movie villian Richard could remember. Richard was convince the man was simply taunting him, waiting to kill him. Richard wanted to get at least one shot in before that happened.
"Turn animals in humans? heh. Why would anyone want to do that." Richard's fine control of his face did not extend fully to his eyes which were like icy globes.
