Talking at the Clinic Amyla Edana Ohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrapohcrap... was the only halfway intelligible thing running through Ali's mind at the moment. After the disastrous phone call with her mother and announcing that not only was she pregnant but she was also now showing, she had realized that not only was she pregnant--and undeniably so-- she was also somewhat estranged from her very conservative family. Uh oh. She had no clue about anything when it came to raising a kid. She was so screwed.
Somehow, in her mental panicking, she had come to the conclusion that returning to the clinic would be wise. Maybe to retrieve some brochures, possibly to pump one of the staff for advice.... or maybe just to find a quiet neutral place to freak out in. Any way she looked at it, going to the clinic was a good idea.
She managed to walk there in record time and very carefully opened the door, edging inside to glance around the lobby. She felt slightly ridiculous, particularly with her hair tied back in a sloppy ponytail and the purple V-neck shirt demonstrating her baby bulge. She had to reason that a pregnant teen was a common sight to the folk here, though, so she opted not to worry about it... too much. Julia the Weird Julia waved to her roommate as she left Mistalina's home, going out to hunt for a job, just in case the one she would probably get wasn't in the bag after all. She found herself thinking about various matters on her mind; her pregnancy; whether she'd be a good mother; what it would be like, and if there would really be aches and pains like Mistalina had said; what her children would be like; and other various matters. Soon, she realized her body was on autopilot, and wondered where she was headed. Then, she noticed that the clinic was nearby, and decided to stop in there. Perhaps she could meet other expecting mothers, or mothers that were already mothers, and learn more about both the clinic and pregnancies.
She trotted into the lobby, looking around to see who she might be able to talk to. The place was mostly empty, but there was one inhabitant. Julia smiled, stroking her belly slightly, thinking, 'I hope that woman, who is obviously pregnant, like I am, doesn't think less of me for being pregnant but single.' Amyla Edana Ali fairly launched into the air as the sound of the clinic door opening resounded behind her. Having determined the lobby was empty, she had settled herself down in a chair to calm down and give herself a pep talk. She had only gotten so far as telling herself that when her heart fairly stopped from shock, and she had to take a moment to compose herself before turning around to look at the new arrival.
Ah ha! So she wasn't the only pregnant one who'd wandered in today. Granted, she still felt incredibly self-conscious, but it wasn't quite so bad. At least the other woman was alone, which made the poor scatterbrained college student feel a tad better. "Uhhh... hi," she said, managing to pull together enough functioning brain cells to speak. Haha. Victory. Julia the Weird Julia smiled timidly at the woman who had spoken. She managed a feeble wave, an incredible bout of shyness washing over her. Then, clearing her throat, she said, "Hello." Realizing how silly it was of her to be shy, she attempted to get over her fear. "Um, I'm Julia. And uh... I'm glad to meet you, uh... Um... What was your name again?" She blushed, forgetting that she hadn't been told the other's name, but rather, thinking that she had just been a ditz and forgotten it. Amyla Edana Ali fidgeted in her chair. Awkward, this was, if only just a bit. She shoved her glasses further up her nose with one finger, a gesture more of nervousness than need. "Hi, Julia. I'm Ali," she said simply, her blue-gray eyes wide behind her rectangular frames. She felt a bit emboldened by the fact that the other woman was as shy as she; she was not alone!
"I'm guessing you've also... got an appointment here?" she ventured in a pathetic attempt at conversation. Being social was not her forte. Writing, yes. Animals, yes. People, no. People were challenging and difficult and unpredictable. Julia the Weird Julia nodded timidly, wondering if she really looked THAT pregnant. "Hi, Ali. Um, yeah, I got an appointment here too. I came in a while ago. I was sorta wandering around town and uh... I was bored and found this place..." She started fidgeting with her hands, then finished in an extremely quick pace, "andImetMistalinawhoisnowmyfriendandroommateandIgotanappointmentandIthinkI'mgoingtohavetwinsbut- MistalinasaystheachesandpainswillcomeandI'mnotlookingforwardtothatbutnowI'mbabblingsoI'llshutup." She blushed, then said in a slower voice, "Er... I met Mistalina, and got an appointment, and I think I'll have twins." Amyla Edana Ali was floored by the idea that someone was bored and simply 'decided' to have kids. She blinked, her eyes looking comically large behind her small-framed glasses. How could anyone just decide to get pregnant on a whim?! Of course, her thoughts were biased against that, considering she was in this situation as a result of stupidity and much too much sugar.
Spending time with Randi and having a little sister finally paid off in full dividends. She actually managed to translate the majority of what Julia said all in a rush, even without the extra addition of explanation. "Wow... twins? Congrats. But I'm so glad it's not me," was all she could manage, still not quite over the idea of simply wanting to get pregnant. She was so going to have a headache before the day was out; she just couldn't wrap her mind around it. Julia the Weird She nodded happily, saying, "Yeah, I'm really excited. I've been wanting children since I was six (though, at that time it wasn't serious, and I wanted twenty), but yeah. Honestly though, I've wanted kids for real for about, oh, three years now. Problem is, I'm a bit... 'relationship-ally challenged' so I haven't been able to get pregnant - until now." She blushed, looking down at the floor nervously, not wanting the other to think her lame or stupid or anything. Amyla Edana Ali managed a quiet "oh." Honestly, she couldn't really understand how someone single just... wanted kids. Maybe it was her bad heart or perhaps just her logical brain that refused to contemplate the idea of willingly becoming a single parent. Ohhh jeeez. She was going to get a migraine from this.
"Errrr, well, I'm glad you succeeded," she said, sounding rather lame. Awww, crud. "Uhhh... I'm not exactly thrilled about the whole concept." That was putting it mildly. She had about had a full-blown panic attack when she'd found out. Julia the Weird She smiled, hoping the awkward silence would end. When it did, she almost wished it hadn't. "Oh? Then why did you get an appointment if you didn't want children?" She blushed, realizing that she was probably sounding like a prying jerk. "I-I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked..." Amyla Edana She really should have predicted that question, but in her selfish wallowing in self-pity, she hadn't managed to come to the realization that that might be asked. "Nah, it's okay. I set myself up for that one," Ali said quickly. After pondering for a moment how to answer, she finally sighed. "Y'know how they tell you not to drink because you do stupid stuff?" she said, deciding that this route was the best one to go. She fidgeted a little in her seat, looking more than a little peeved with herself. "I kinda got high... on.... sugar."
There it was. The awful, embarassing truth. Julia the Weird Julia blinked, surprised by this answer. "You... got high... on sugar?" She stared a little, then giggled, "What was it like? I've never been high at all, nevermind on sugar! Was it fun? I mean... I'm sorry. I'm just a bit curious. I really didn't mean any offense or anything, honest. Pleasedon'tbemadatme,Iwasn'ttryingtohurtyou." She winced, saying more slowly, "I wasn't trying to hurt you; please don't be mad." Amyla Edana Ali gave a glum shrug. She couldn't be offended by it, really. It was pretty dumb, in retrospect, but it was the truth. "Yes. We were drinking apple juice and eating ice cream, and we just kept eating and drinking while we watched Animal Planet," she said, trying to bring back memories out of The Hole that was that fateful night. She frowned. "I remember meerkats and llamas on TV... and that's about it. We were really hyper before we had all that sugar, and I guess we got so hyper that we acted sober. I don't think the people here would have let us get an appointment if we were acting like a couple of high teens."
Ali managed a grin for the other young woman. "It's all right. It's kinda dumb, yeah, I know..." Julia the Weird She grinned, holding back a giggle at the story. "That sounds.. like me, actually. Well, except for the fact I've never been high on sugar... But you know what I mean." She blushed, sounding stupid. She tried to find some words to comfort the other teen, but could find none, so she simply said, "Maybe the pregnancy will be better than you think though? And I'm sure you'll have a WONDERFUL child!" Amyla Edana A grin reluctantly tugged at the corners of Ali's mouth, and she gave in, grinning wryly at her own misfortune. "Yeah, it's pretty... well, it's interesting." She shrugged with a sigh, relaxing back in her chair and resting her hands atop her belly. Her back offered up a protest and a demand for a hot water bottle upon arriving home, and she offered up a quiet sigh in response. She looked over at Julia, her eyes taking on a mischevious gleam. "Oh, I have no doubts this kid's gonna rock. I mean... Randi and I are just... yeah. It'll be fun." She snickered a bit, cheered by the thought. -unfinished-

Journal Entry: AliI'm so FAT! And I keep getting FATTER! It's scary! I'm like FAT!
I can't stop freaking out. School is getting so hard, especially when I'm tired and have to go to the bathroom like every freakin' half-hour! It's BAD! I've been doing well on projects and stuff, though. I'm trying to figure out what to do for a nursery. The other bedroom is pretty much open, except for the twin bed. So, I recruited one of my guy friends to move the bed against the wall. I'm going to have to figure out something. I'm going to have to talk to Randi too.
I've been thinking about some names, but I don't know. I need to talk to Randi about it! I need to talk to Randi, and I keep forgetting to call her. I'm so, so, so, so, so bad. Badbadbad. Bad. Meerkats. My poor messed up brain!

Clothes?! Amyla Edana Shopping, under normal circumstances, was a stressful occasion for Ali. Book shopping was fun, as was video game and movie shopping. Food shopping was a necessary evil and was occasionally even enjoyable, when it included ice cream or chocolate. But clothes shopping was something very different. She had done her shopping for maternity clothes out of necessity, but this whole idea of shopping for her child was completely boggling her logical mind. She, the dateless wonder, was pregnant, and the arrival was... well, far too close for her liking. She felt like she'd swallowed an entire watermelon.
Whole.
She meandered aimlessly through the aisles, wishing that she had jeans that fit her now. She had to go with some comfortable, supportive slacks and a nice shirt which showed off a little more of her enhanced cleavage than she really wanted it to, though that might have been the shy prude in her speaking. She hadn't needed any enhancement in that area, but pregnancy had added extra bulk everywhere. Ugh. At least she didn't have guys hitting on her and staring down her shirt anymore. Well... they did stare, but they didn't make a pass at her. That was the one good thing about having a kid.
After pawing restlessly at a few different outfits, she somehow found herself wandering amongst the clothing racks which held outfits for slightly older infants. While she knew that these were quite a ways off as far as necessity, she couldn't bring herself to face the reality of newborn-sized outfits. It was too scary. mistalina13 Mistalina walked along the aisle and wrinkled her nose, all the children's clothes seemed so cutesy these days. Not much seemed to suit Nymue, but he did need some new clothes. Perhaps overalls or something simple.
Said infant was in the crook of his mothers arm, with the bulk of his weight resting on her hip. He was awake and looking around somewhat, now that he could see a bit better. His little pointed tail swishing back and forth and his head rested against his mother's chest.
She hadn't noticed the other female until she nearly bumped into her. "Oh, I'm sorry." Amyla Edana Too pink, too green, too.... eww, that's so wrong. Boys are not supposed to wear dresses! Ali thought, crinkling up her nose at one particularly ghastly outfit. People actually dressed their babies in that?! She looked down at her distended belly and gave it a pat. Sorry, little'un. You might have two socially awkward and completely nerdy parents, but at least we won't make you dress like a freak.
She went back to her distracted browsing, more to avoid the reality of impending doom than to actually search for some necessary clothing. She had just rounded another clothing rack--which, of course, was taller than her by several inches-- when another person appeared in her field of vision, whom she nearly walked into. She gave a startled yelp and stumbled back a step or two, quickly setting her glasses properly on her nose.
"Oh... uhh... n-n-not your fault. I was distracted. I'm sorry. Kind of... not with it today," she stuttered out quickly in apology before being momentarily distracted by the child the woman was balancing on her hip. Hey, that kid was kind of cute... in a devilish sort of way. He had a creepy tail. She shook her head. No, no! Must focus! mistalina13 "His name is Nymue. I'm afraid you won't get much out of him he's only a little over a month old." Mistalina looked down at the girl and smiled. "Do you have a child of your own?" She hadn't taken the time to look the girl over just yet and wasn't too sure of her age, or what the proper age of adulthood with humans was for that matter.
Nymue looked at the girl and grinned widely, making a little gurgling noise. Amyla Edana Being a shorter than average person in a society full of... giants, Ali was used to looking up at people. Still, she was momentarily taken aback when she had to crane her head back that far on her already-sore neck to look up at the woman she'd nearly bumped into. Well... now she really felt like a midget. "Ohhh. Well, he's pretty cute anyway," Ali said, waggling her fingers in a wave and grinning at Nymue. Only she could find mildly demonic things cute. She was odd that way. "Nymue... that's a cool name. Haven't heard it before," she commented, more to herself than anything.
She cringed a little at the query. "Errr... yeah, sort of." She looked mournfully down at her obviously swollen belly, poking at it with one finger. "Expecting, anyway. I still think I'm too young for this. This was not what I intended.. to... do. Yeah," she trailed off, sighing loudly. Awkward, much. mistalina13 "It is an elvish name, that's probably why." Mistalina smiled softly and her own tail swished from side to side lazily and her headwings relaxed slightly. "I didn't think I was really ready for this either..." She looked down at Nymue, "...prepared or not though, you'll still love the little darling that's for sure."
She remembered how much her back had hurt while she carried the boys and felt for this one, who seemed little more than a girl. "Would you care to go sit down somewhere, I saw a bench just around the corner..."
Nymue's eyes followed her hand and he reached out to grab her fingers. Amyla Edana Elvish? Yep, that would explain it. Ali grinned faintly, feeling a bit more at ease with this other... non-human female of some race she couldn't identify. Her scientific brain was curious, as usual, but she opted to be polite and not ask. She saw Nymue grabbing for her hand and moved her fingers within easy grabbing reach. She couldn't couldn't help it; he was too cute.
"Oh, I'm not worried about loving them. That's kind of a given. Randi, I know, is going to love him... her.... him-her... too. It's just... I never figured I'd be a mom this soon," she managed to get out, her brain finally wrapping around the concept. Pleased that pregnancy hadn't totally destroyed her brain (speaking of brains, she had a test tomorrow. DAMN!), her smile widened a bit. "You weren't planning on becoming a mother either?"
At the reference to the bench, Ali looked thoughtful for a split second. "Oh... uhh, no, that's all right. I was sitting in class for most of the day. Standing up is preferable, but thank you." mistalina13 "I have an adopted son, whose older, but Nymue....." Mistalina hesitated for a moment. "...and his brother, are my only biological children." She shifted Nymue to her other hip easily. "But, they weren't planned." She smiled softly.
After a moment she looked around. "Where is he...I hope he didn't get lost." She sighed softly. Amyla Edana Ali nodded in understanding. She knew all about not planning things, and while she wanted to inquire how the other female ended up with kids, she wasn't inclined to press the issue. It was a rather personal question, after all. "Nymue has a brother?" she inquired. "A twin?" She had to grin. Twins were so cute, especially when identical!
She raised an eyebrow and shoved her glasses further up her nose, looking a bit confused at the other female's face. "Lost? Your older son?" she asked, glancing about. She hadn't seen any kids when she was moping around the aisles, though her belly might have been getting in the way with that. mistalina13 "Fraternal twin, named Alendan, he's with the boys other mother. I likely won't see him again for a long time." Mistalina frowned slightly. "My older son and my....housekeeper." She hadn't thought of something better to refer to Demetrius as in public. Amyla Edana Ali immediately shut her mouth and grimaced. Whoops. There she went again, sticking her nose where it didn't need to be... stuck. She was opening her mouth to apologize for intruding upon private matters when the other female elaborated on the missing... people. Two of them? "Ohhh. I didn't see any kids wandering through here before. There were a lot of people a couple aisles down, though."
She belatedly realized that in her stupidity, she had failed to introduce herself. "Oh, uhhh... I'm Ali, by the way. And I'm sorry about almost running into you before. Kinda distracted about... stuff." mistalina13 Mistalina listened to her, but didn't look down, she was still looking for Shidiomi and Demetrius. "My name is Mistalina."
A tall man, with dark brown slightly curled hair rounded the corner and spotted her. "Mistress!"
She sighed. "Demetrius, it's 'Mistalina' in public remember?"
A catboy of roughly nine years walked after the tall man. "Momma!" Amyla Edana While Ali took a brief second to process the name-- Mistalina, that was an interesting name. Must be elvish too...-- it was apparent she missed out on something. When she came back to reality, she was surprised to note that there were two new members to their happy little group, both of whom were male. After a brief moment of trying to figure out how long she had been lost in thought for, she managed a nervous smile, the smile instantly transforming to a grin at the sigh Mistalina gave. Ah, men. So frustrating.
"Err... hello," she said in a rather pathetic attempt at greeting, nervously shoving her glasses up again. mistalina13 "My housekeeper, Demetrius, and my son Shidiomi. Shidiomi, Demetrius this is Ali." Mistalina motioned to each of them in turn with her free hand. "Did he managed to find any good clothes, Demetrius?"
"He did..." The persacom paused for a moment, remembering his mistress' last request. "Mistalina. It took some time though."
"Nothing fits right Momma." Shidiomi chimed in, and crossed his arms across his chest, flattening his feline ears slightly and his tail twitching in mild annoyance.
"Of coure not sweetheart, you have a tail afterall, we can fix them properly once we get home." Mistalina smiled and put an arm around the smaller catboy. Amyla Edana Ali nodded to each of the two males in turn, feeling rather like a bobbleheaded animal on a car dashboard as she did. "Hi, Demetrius, Shidiomi," she said, suddenly feeling rather out of place with her ordinary, everyday human name. She made a mental note to not name the unborn child anything that could be construed as ordinary or popular. Creativity was a must.
She gave Shidiomi a sympathetic smile. "Yeah, I know how that feels. I sort of wish I had a tail to blame it on, though," she said, wrinkling up her nose in a faint grimace. Clothes shopping was not exactly high on her list of favorite pasttimes, even before the whole kid issue. mistalina13 Demetrius nodded to Ali and shifted the small stack of clothes to his other arm and reached up to brush some of his hair behind his 'ear', it was a human habit he seemed to have picked up somewhere in passing.
Shidiomi waved to Ali and leaned against his mother on the opposite side Nymue was on and put an arm around her. Just a little grumpy and tired, likely quite ready to go home.
Nymue peeked over Mistalina's arm at the catboy, then leaned over and tried to make a grab at one of the boy's feline ears.
"No, no, Nymue. What has Momma told you about that?" Mistalina shifted the infant back so he sat against her hip again and looked down at him. "You don't pull hair, or ears. It hurts." Amyla Edana Either this was the oddest mix of a family that Ali had ever seen, or her own family had been so abnormal in its homogeneity that it was almost unnatural. Her overly logical brain couldn't decide which of the two options it was, so she decided not to think about it. Her brain was in enough pieces already; there was no need to cause further damage.
She smiled a bit at Shidiomi and then had to hold back a giggle at Nymue's grabbing. Awwww, how cute! Of course, she'd be howling up a storm if he had a hold on one of her ears, but that was another issue altogether. "You have a very interesting family," she told Mistalina, glancing back and forth amongst the four of them. mistalina13 Mistalina laughed. "Thanks, I love them all the pieces." She wouldn't mention that fact that Shidiomi was left on her doorstep as toddler by one of her friends and she found the boy alone and crying.
"Mistalina, shouldn't we be going to get lunch soon. I think the boys are getting hungry, and Shidiomi looks like he could use a break from shopping." Demetrius was merely offering a suggestion, based on his internal clock, besides the children seemed restless.
"Your right, would you care to join us Ali?" Amyla Edana "I can see that. Can't blame you at all," Ali said honestly. Really, she could see how easy it would be to love all of them, odd as they were. They seemed kind, as well as interesting.
She raised an eyebrow at the mention of lunch and snuck a look at her watch. As a full-time student, she was used to skipping meals every day, but while her own biological clock didn't signify it was food time, her stomach (and apparently, the baby) were telling her a different story. "Errr... yes, I'd love to," she said, finally realizing she was hungry. She grinned and shifted her purse on her shoulder, her face flushing when her growling stomach betrayed her state of hunger. "Didn't realize it was lunchtime yet." mistalina13 Mistalina chuckled. "Mmm..well, sharing your body with a child tends to mess up the schedule a bit." She smiled. "Know any good places to go for lunch around here?" Amyla Edana Since her main mode of transportation was walking, Ali knew just about every store, restaurant, and recreational center within a couple miles of her house. She tilted her head to one side and squinted a bit, deep in thought. What places were there within safe walking distance to eat at? This store by itself was on the edge of her home range, but there had to be something close by.
"Ahhh... fast food place about three blocks... that way," she said, pointing her hand in one vague directions. "Pretty healthy, for fast food. Good salads. Sushi place in the strip mall about a block past that. And there's a deli... somewhere near here. That isn't so bad either," she added. She looked down at her belly and gave a sigh. Oh, the trials and tribulations of pregnancy. Yuuurgh. mistalina13 "Whatever is closest will do fine." Mistalina smiled again.
Nymue twisted in his mother's arm and rested his head against her chest and let out a little whimper. The infant was hungry and tired as well. Amyla Edana "Uhhh... fast food, then. It's got a playplace too," Ali said, the last part directed more at Shidiomi. She fidgeted a bit and shoved her glasses further up her nose, trying to work out a bit of inexplicable nerves. She looked at Nymue, giving him a pitying look. She knew how it felt to be hungry like that. "Did you need to stop by the check-out first?" she inquired. The girl hadn't found a single thing, mostly due to fear and distraction, but it looked like Mistalina had a few things, courtesy of Shidiomi's focus. Ali was jealous; why couldn't she have that much focus?! Stupid pregnancy was killing her brain. mistalina13 "Demetrius, take the boys and go with Ali; I'll take care of getting the clothes and things." Mistalina walked to the persacom and plucked the clothes from under his arm with her free hand and handed him Nymue.
Demetrius nodded and held the infant carefully. "Of course."
The infant tiefling roused enough to notice he was being passed, letting out a little near cry until he realised who he was being passed to. Nymue had long since labeled Demetrius in his mind as 'Daddy'. He shifted and buried his face against Demetrius' chest.
"M'kay, Momma." Shidiomi nodded to Mistalina.
With that Mistalina walked off toward the front cash, leaving Ali with the boys. Amyla Edana A little surprised, Ali nodded, watching as Mistalina headed off. She glanced back at Demetrius and the boys, smiling a bit nervously. "Shall we?" she said, turning to stride toward the front of the store. She shifted her purse on her shoulder and shoved the glasses back up her nose.
"It's only a couple of blocks away. Did you guys drive or walk here?" she inquired curiously, including both Demetrius and Shidiomi in the query. mistalina13 "We walked, Mistress doesn't drive." Demetrius nodded and followed after Ali, shifting Nymue in his arms as he walked along.
Shidiomi padded after them, staying on the far side Demetrius, closer to his brother and away from Ali, because frankly strangers made him a little nervous. Amyla Edana "Oh." Ali was pleasantly surprised this time as she headed through the front doors of the store and made a right turn to head down the sidewalk. "Can't say that I blame her. I'm not much into driving myself."
After a few moments of silent walking--no, she was waddling, really--she became even more on edge. Silence like this made her nervous. "So... do you all have any pets at home?" Oh, she was terrible at this smalltalk thing. mistalina13 "Nope, not right now at least. Momma says we can get a dog or something, once Nymue is a little older." It was Shidiomi who piped up this time as they walked, as Demetrius wasn't one for idle chit chat, mostly because he didn't understand. Amyla Edana Ali gave a happy sigh and glanced back at Shidiomi, grinning from ear to ear. "Ooooh, a dog! I had dogs growing up, and it was great. They're wonderful to talk to, and they never make fun of your ideas or put you down. I used to tell Princess everything," she said, her eyes sparkling at the memory. Being away from home and family and her dogs... it was lonely.
Except for Randi and The Baby, of course.
She spied the restaurant up ahead and gestured at it. "There it is." She glanced back at Demetrius, curious as to why he wasn't very talkative and why he referred to Mistalina as 'Mistress.' mistalina13 When they got a bit closer, the older tiefling caught up with them a couple of bags looped over her arms. "Sorry, lines were bad." She smiled and moved to walk beside Shidiomi.
Demetrius shifted in his arms again, it seems the infant had fallen asleep on the way over to the restaurant. Then he leaned over to give Mistalina a peck on the cheek and smiled at her when he drew back.
"Uck." Shidiomi's ears flattened and he stuck out his tongue. As much he loved his Momma, seeing her kiss someone, or be kissed still seemed gross. Amyla Edana Ali had just about reached the door when she heard the sound of approaching footsteps. She turned to spy Mista on the approach, bags included. "Hello again," she said cheerfully, somewhat glad now that the most talkative member of the family was back.
She had to giggle at Shidiomi's expression. "Kisses are gross, aren't they?" she observed, grinning widely. "I agree." mistalina13 Shidiomi grinned over at Ali then grabbed onto his Momma's free arm and held onto it until they got close to the restaurant door. The little catboy let go when they reached the door to hold it open, since Demetrius couldn't, apparently the persacom had managed to ingrain a few manners into the catboy.
Demetrius looked down at Shidiomi smiled and nodded before glancing to Ali. "You go ahead, you too Mistress."
"Mistalina." The tiefling rolled her eyes.
"I appologize." Amyla Edana Ali returned the grin with fervor. She was pleasantly surprised by Shidiomi's manners when he opened the door for them. She offered up a prayer that she could put those kinds of manners into her own kid; heavens knew she was going to have a hard enough time to being a mom without having to add discipline difficulties to it. "Thank you," she said to the catboy, nodding politely afterward at Demetrius before waddling her way into the climate-controlled restaurant. She took a brief moment to ponder over the 'Mistress' versus 'Mistalina' debate and decided not to press the issue. If it was necessary for her to know, they'd explain it, she reasoned. mistalina13 Mistalina walked in after Ali and glanced back at Demetrius for a moment. As sweet as the persacom was, he pressed his luck sometimes, though likely not on purpose. "Go ahead and sit with the boys, I'll take care of this."
Demetrius nodded and walked over to sit down at one of the odd little booths.
Shidiomi let the door shut, careful to get his tail out of the way before walking after the persacom and sliding into the side of the booth next to him. Amyla Edana By now, The Baby had decided to make its presence known as well as demand immediate sustenance, for Ali felt a distinct kick to the side of her belly as well as an unhealthily loud stomach grumble. She simply sighed and stared down at the offending bump. "Yes, I know food is required. Ya don't have to be so forceful." It occurred to her later that she probably looked like a complete moron by talking to her own distended abdomen, but considering how hungry she was, she really didn't care.
When Mistalina sent the boys over to a booth, she glanced in that direction and then headed for the counter, eyeing the menu and trying to decide what the healthiest and least fattening item on the menu was. mistalina13 The tiefling walked after Ali and looked down at the shorter girl. "So, what's edible here?" She glanced at the menu and frowned slightly she'd never been here before. Amyla Edana Ali craned her neck at an almost painful angle to look up at her new acquaintance. "Salads are the safest bet. Their hamburgers and cheeseburgers are good too. Anything with grilled chicken is safe, fried not so much. I usually go with the salad topped with grilled chicken strips, but I'm a fussy healthnut like that." She returned to looking at the menu, resisting the urge to rub the sore spot on her neck. "And Baby isn't fond of fried food, so I tend to avoid it as much as possible. Oh, and the milkshakes are good, but they're pretty fattening." She turned a sad look down at her belly. In her current condition, fattening was not a good idea. mistalina13 Mistalina chuckled. "I wouldn't worry too much, you'll loose the weight again soon enough. The little one will keep you busy and running around plenty." She smiled pleasantly.
"And good to know, I'm not so picky myself but Shidiomi is a bit paticular about food. You know, little kids and their whole 'I don't like vegetables!' thing." She glanced back toward the table to make sure the boys were behaving for Demetrius. Amyla Edana Ali managed a weak grin. "Yeah. If I was a few years younger and had my old speed-of-light metabolism, I wouldn't worry so much. But I grew out of that, and it takes me ages to lose any weight. Though, I suppose Baby will keep me running ragged," she commented, imagining herself chasing around a miniature Randi. Her eyes widened. Oooh. Scary!
She had to chuckle at Mistalina's reminder of how finicky little children could be about their food. "Oh, yes, I remember. My little sister used to pitch a royal fit every time we tried to get her to eat peas." The college student paused and looked thoughtful. "Y'know, come to think of it, she still does that." Grinning at the thought of her preppy little sister fussing over eating peas, she returned to examining the menu. "I think I'll go with my usual salad. How about you?" mistalina13 "Salad is fine for me as well, a hamburger is likely fine for Shidiomi and Nymue I can feed once we're at home...since he's napping right now." Mistalina put a hand on her hip and her tail swished lazily back and forth. Amyla Edana Ali nodded and stepped forward toward the register. She was in mid-stride when something occurred to her, and she halted, pivoting slowly to give Mistalina a curious look. "What about Demetrius?" she inquired, perplexed by this whole issue. Where exactly did the strange man fit into the household? mistalina13 "He's a persacom, so he doesn't eat." Not unless you count the ocassional battery recharge. Mistalina chuckled at her companions strange expression. She was used to people asking questions about him by now, once they found out. Amyla Edana Having no clue what a persacom was, Ali just managed to get out a simple, "Oh." She didn't want to be polite and push the issue with more questions, so she left it at that. Besides, she could google it when she got home. The Internet had to give her some sort of information to work with, right? Recovering, she stepped up to the counter to give her order to the gum-popping teenager behind the register. Weird, the creatures that inhabited Gaia. mistalina13 When it was her turn she took care of ordering as well and then it became a small case of waiting. "You can go sit Ali, I'll wait here." Amyla Edana Ali was torn between pride and comfort, and at the moment, the latter wasn't playing fair. Between her neck, back, and ankles, she was one giant walking ball of sore muscles, and sitting down, even in a hard plastic-seated booth, sounded heavenly. "Thank you," she managed to get out, before waddling her way over to the booth. She eased herself down on the opposite side of the booth from Demetrius and Shidiomi, sliding over to make room for Mistalina and cringing at the aches in her back. Oh, she was so sick of pregnancy. mistalina13 Shidiomi was still sitting beside Demetrius on the booth bench, being well behaved as he could manage with his current mood. His ears perked up when he heard footsteps and noticed Ali come over. "Momma told you to sit?" He cracked a smile.
Demetrius nodded to Ali when she sat down. "Mistalina understands how you feel, she was much the same before Nymue and his brother were born." He shifted the sleeping infant in his arms. Amyla Edana Ali nodded an affirmative at Shidiomi, leaning back against the hard plastic of the seat booth and exhaling a massive sigh of relief. Her back might not feel any better, but her ankles surely did. She quirked a hint of a smile at Demetrius. "Yeah. And I'm grateful for it. I'm just glad I'm not having twins too..." she said, resting one hand atop her belly. That would have been awful, to have twins. She would likely have exploded long ago. mistalina13 "It was hard on Momma. S'why she got Demetrius." At least that's what he'd been told, but no matter the reason he was glad for someone else around the house. He leaned over on the bench and rested his head against the persacom's arm. Amyla Edana Had she not been pregnant, tired, and hungry, Ali reasoned that it was quite possible she could have had a more intelligent response than a nod of understanding. For a moment she just sat there, resting and trying to regain enough strength to sit up straight. After a moment, she sighed. "Wish I was that lucky. I've got some help too, but I live alone and work and go to school. It's rough." She grinned a bit at Shidiomi. "You like having a little brother?" mistalina13 "Mhm." The catboy nodded. "I help Momma and Demetrius take care of him."
Mistalina came back finally with a tray balanced on her hand and she slid it onto the table before carefully taking the seat next to Ali. "I used to work, haven't had to for a while, sometimes I miss it though." Amyla Edana "You're better at being a big sibling than I was. I was little when my sister was born, and we've fought since she was old enough to smack me," Ali said, chuckling faintly. Despite the fact that they fought, she missed her sister a great deal. The girl was fun, if a royal pain in the rear.
She was distracted by Mistalina's arrival. "I wish I could get away with not working. I won't for a few weeks after the baby is born, but I have to otherwise. It's not so bad, though. You get to meet all sorts of people," she commented, wrinkling up her nose a bit at some of her creepier memories of the zoo. "Usually nice ones." mistalina13 Mistalina chuckled and nodded. "School and work, at the same time is a lot. Especially with a child too." She picked up the hamburger off the tray and offered it to Shidiomi who unwrapped it and thankfully started eating without complaint. With a sigh of relief the tiefling picked up the salad and popped the lid off. Amyla Edana Ali nodded vigorously. "Yeah. I'm just glad school will be out before the baby's born. Or... I hope so." She went a bit pale at the thought and then shook her head and retrieved her own salad. "Thank you again for waiting. I appreciate it a lot," she said, giving Mistalina a grateful smile and then commencing to glance around for a fork. mistalina13 "Your welcome."
Mistalina wasn't terribly impressed by the greens in the salad, they had probably been sitting in that odd little refridgerator too long. It was still edible though, especially when dressing was applied. The tiefling wasn't one for talking much while she was eating so she would eat in silence unless Ali felt like being talkative. Amyla Edana After finally locating a fork and opening her salad, Ali picked through it for a few minutes, sort of shoving the lettuce and toppings around with her fork. She managed to eat a few bites of lettuce before switching her attention to the much more appetizing grilled chicken strips atop it, wisely leaving the dressing aside. Like she needed the fat that was in that. She was about halfway through her silent meal when she felt something odd in the region of The Baby. She paused in her eating and set her fork down, eyes wide and the odd rolling sensation. It almost felt like the baby was rolling over inside her, and it was strange. "For the record, and I say this with you all as my witnesses, I am never getting pregnant again! Ever!" she squeaked. mistalina13 The tiefling chuckled, she knew that odd look. "Moving, hm?" She put down her fork. "Alendan and Nymue used to keep me up nights." Amyla Edana Ali carefully closed her salad and put the fork atop the lid, looking decidedly pale. "Yeah... I've felt kicking and stuff before, but that was the first time I felt that rolling thing." She shuddered a bit, giving Mistalina a nervous smile. "How did you manage to get any sleep, with two of them doing this??" mistalina13 "You get used to it; it gets sort comforting almost...after a while." Mistalina popped the lid back on her salad for the moment as well, having only finished about half of it. "You feeling alright, Ali?" Amyla Edana Ali swallowed a bit. Comforting? This? It felt like she was on a roller coaster ride, inside her own belly. It felt odd, and suddenly, she wasn't hungry any more. "It's not very comforting at the moment..." she said, giving her salad a longing look. "And I'm not feeling very hungry anymore. Well... I am, but I'm not. Just... blurgh," she said oh-so-eloquently, not quite sure how to communicate what she was feeling. She tentatively wrapped one arm around her belly. Oh, this so did not feel right. mistalina13 "Need to get home and lay down, perhaps?" Mistalina looked concerned and started to slide toward the end of the bench seat to get up if the girl said yes. Amyla Edana Ali nodded, looking several shades paler than before. "I think... I think that might be wise," she said, tucking a few stray strands of hair behind her ear. She gave the family an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry. I just... I don't feel well." mistalina13 "Entirely understandable." Mistalina slid off the bench and got up. Amyla Edana Ali carefully scooted off the bench and stood, cringing a bit as she straightened. She picked up the remains of her salad. It'd make a good snack later, if she ever managed to settle her stomach. "I am sorry. It was nice meeting all of you. Hope to see you all again soon," she said before turning and heading for the restaurant door. Oh, bed sounded very good right now.

Check-up Ali arrived at the clinic for a check-up. She was given a brief physical exam, and a few spells were performed to check on the pregnancy. Everything seemed to be proceeding normally, so she was instructed to maintain a steady diet and exercise routine. No problems are expected.

Time to Panic! It was a good thing Ali's apartment floors were made of Staten Island marble or else there would be clear paths worn on it. After having woken up, promptly burst into another crying jag, and then feeling too much like a slug to do much besides drag herself to class, she had broken down and finally called her partner in... chaos. Honestly, if she had to go through one more of those hormone surges....
Meerkats.
"AAAAAARGH!" she cried aloud, covering her face with her hands and continuing her pacing. Her distended belly was appropriately covered by her tanktop, but it was so obvious that she was almost afraid to look at herself in the mirror much, as well as look down. She couldn't see her feet any longer, and it distressed her greatly.Boy, hadn't that been the coldest her house had ever been? How do you tell your parents that a girl they don't know all that well is having your kid? She imagined any boys that had to be the bearer of bad news had it faaaar easier than she had. Randi was running towards Ali's again, finally free from the bonds of being grounded. Well, not entirely free. Elsewhere was still in lockdown, but there was no way they were going to keep her from her best pal now. She arrived at Ali's door, fixing her clothes quickly. Vanity had been sneaking up on her lately. Not too much, just a little to being annoying. Knocking softly, she touched the doorknob and gave it an experimental twist and shove. "Ali? You in there?" Duh, stupid. She called. Still in mid-panic, it took Ali a moment to realize that there was a familiar voice floating through the cracks of the front door. She froze, listening. Randi? Randi was here?! Why?!
Oh yeah. I called her.... she remembered, blinking. Oh my, she really was losing her mind. "Uhh... come in! It's open!" she squeaked out, growling quietly at how bad her voice sounded. Sheesh. She needed this pregnancy thing to be over and done with before she went bonkers. Well, she already was bonkers but before she went totally bonkers! The door opened easily, and she stepped inside. Ali sure looked... different. Not too much, but something inside of her seemed to agree that Ali was pregnant. The something was then reprimanded for being stupid and sent back to Something Camp with all the little somethings that would someday be. "Wow." Randi looked over her friend, whistling quietly. "I'm sorry. I got grounded for bad grades and well... I'm sorry." Sorrys were going to run short soon, she supposed. He hand ran nervously through her hair habitually. "You okay?" Ali, having finally halted her pacing in her living room, pulled her face away from her hands and looked at her friend, following Randi's gaze and sighing as she looked down at her... baby... bump-belly-growth-thingy. "Yeah... wow. I got... fat. Really fat. And tired. And dizzy sometimes. And I keep crying!"
She sighed and planted her hands on her hips, transforming from freaked-out to annoyed in an instant. "Ehh, it's okay. My parents are officially pitching a royal fit, so... yeah, guess I'm sorta on my own for this." She sighed and then looked royally ticked off. "I am not okay! I am fat and pregnant, and I'm gonna be a frickin' mom!" As soon as the words were out of her mouth, she clamped her jaws shut. Crud. "Sorry.......""Anyways, I can help?" It was all she could do to keep from saying 'I'm Sorry' again. At Ali's instant change in attitude, she bit her lip. Part of her wanted to cry because she was getting yelled (yelled being defined as being in trouble and being told so) at. "You're not gonna be alone! You got me, for whatever that's worth. I got my parents. They'll help. Y'don't have to be so mad." Frick. Don't get angry. Being angry at Ali's not fun for anyone. "And... so yes. You're gonna be a mother. My cousin was a mom when she was fifteen. There're people everywhere who have kids who're worse than you with no morals and absolutely no one to help them set their kids right." Randi just had to make valid, logical points, which only made Ali feel worse. She sighed, her shoulders drooping noticeably. She looked rather funny, looking all sad like that with her belly sticking out and not-drooping, unlike the rest of her. "I know... I'm sorry. I just get... panicky, y'know? It's scary." She sniffed a bit, rubbing the back of one hand across her eyes. "I'm acting like a baby. Ugh."
She meandered over to the couch and sat down, the action minus her normal flopping and dropping. She had to be careful now. Baby no like it when she flopped. Then her brain made the proper connections, and she looked up in surprise. "Your cousin was a mom at fifteen?! Your parents? Do they know about... this?"The image given by her friend was rather comical, but the part of her brain that laughed was scolded for being insensitive to the rest of her which despaired at Ali's unhappiness. "I know. I'm scared to death too." Randi glanced about in hope of seeing a tissue to give to help Ali to dry up. Failing in her mission, she looked back at her friend. "Nah, you're just... I don't know." She watched as her friend walked over to the couch, nodding slowly at her question. "They do now. Mom wasn't going to let me come over, so I had to explain to her. I'm officially grounded until me or her dies."

Journal Entry: Ali I have decided that the next person to touch my belly, make any reference to me giving birth to an elephant, or ask me if it's a boy or a girl.... will get severely mauled. I'm fat, I'm tired, I'm whiny, and I keep getting these dumb cramp things that the books say are 'preparation for labor.' Preparations are way overrated. I can't even sleep without my belly doing crampy things, and then the baby flops over. And yes, it's a flopping sort of motion. It's like a roller coaster feeling, except it's inside, and it's all gross and stuff. I mean... I'm going nuts here! Just nuts!
So, I've been thinking about names. I'm going to have to pester Randi for ideas. I like the name Charles. We could call him Chucky!
Or not. Okay, bad idea. Bad Ali! Bad! And now I'm talking... writing... to myself. Pregnancy kills my brains! But the good news is that school is out soon, so hopefully, this baby will be kind and wait until I'm done with finals.
What was I talking about? Oh yeah... names. I like the name Racelle too, for a girl. I like Stella too. Stella is a good strong name, but it's pretty too. I'm not going to be one of those cruel people that gives their kid a totally random name like... Apple. No. And this kid shall not be named 'Joe' either. Maybe Giovanni.... or Carmine! I'm on an Italian kick today. Mmm... Italian sounds good spaghetti.
Focus, Ali! Focus!
Yeah, baby just did rollover thing again, and I think I'm going to go curl up in a miserable ball in the corner.

So, um, Ali wanted me to write something in here, so I'm just going to sum up everything pretty much because if I don't I'll start doodling and forget what I'm doing and then I'll get in trouble...
Anyways. I got grounded for low grades, some of the lowest I've ever had. Being grounded for me means that, well, no Ali. I explained everything to Mom and got my groundingness extended to forever, but I could come see Ali, which I sorta figured was going to happen.
[There is a bunch of scribbles on this part of the page. Beneath the scribbles is a barely legible doodle of what appears to be a poodle with fangs.]
Oops. Toldja so. See, kid, it's not you. Randi really is insane.
Anyhow, Ali wanted me to think up some names. Let's see... For girls I like the name Racelle that Ali said earlier. Though, other ideas'd be Shari (The name of my piano teacher. I think it's so pretty! Anyways.) or Kaley. Dunno why. Don't ask me questions, darnit! Boys would be... hmm... Gabriel, Alexander, Thomas, other old-sounding names like that. I'm a very weird girl, I guess.
Well, I better let go of the journal now before I really start to ramble. I don't think Ali's going to like my messy handwriting messing up her pretty diary journal. It was so perfect before I broke it.
~ Randi
