Mecca shot her a glare at her impatience and placed the food into his mouth. He chewed for a few moments tyring to experience the flavours. If he was truthful he hadn't tried normal food since he was a child. It actually wasn't bad.
He swallowed and handed the fork back to her. "It is satisfactory I suppose." He said taking a sip of his water. "I am still not sure I would choose to eat it."

Covet smirked at the glare he shot her and smiled happily as he ate it. Waiting expectantly for his reaction she reached out for her fork and rolled her eyes with a bright smile at his response. Satisfied that he had at least tried it, she didn't press him for a better one.
"Told you. You really miss out because you won't try new things," she smiled as she dropped her eyes down to her plate and started eating. After a moment, she paused to sip some tea and glace over at him.
"Do you really think he'll come for me?" she asked softly, dropping her eyes away again.

Mecca tore off a piece of flatbread as she spoke and studied her for a moment. "I would think he would at least be worried." He said taking a bite. He thought as he chewed. "Is that not what friends do? Try to discover why one is upset?"
It was a genuine question. Having never had any friends he had to go purely on what he witnessed around him.

"Yes. That's what friends do," she said, stirring her lettuce around on her plate with her fork. She took a deep breath and forced a smile onto her lips as she looked back up. She watched him for a moment then looked out over the rest of the tea house at all the happy, carefree shu.
"The other day I asked the owner if I could sing here some nights. He said he would think about it," she said, changing the subject. "I really hope he says yes. I miss making people smile."

Mecca watched her sadness and wished he could do more to help her. As cruel as he could be he knew Covet did not deserve to be abandoned by those she cared so much about. "That will be good." He said reaching across the table despite himself to take her free hand in his. His action was more to please her than to do with his instinct, though he had to wonder why he wished to please her. "It will help you improve your powers too."
He fell silent for a few moments eating his bread and sipping his water. "Do you have aspirations Covet?"

Covet was more than surprised when she suddenly felt his hand slip into hers. She turned her head back to their table and looked down at his crimson hand in her pale one. Staring down at their hands for a few moments, she slowly looked back up at him at his question.
"Aspirations?" she repeated a little uncertainly. She had never really thought about it before. She had been more than content to live with Matador and help him run Veronica. It was a good life and one that filled her with contentment. "Um... not really. I was pretty happy with the way things were," she replied with a small shrug.

Mecca nodded and withdrew his hand from hers, returning to tearing his bread to eat it. "Nothing but that?" he said just to make sure. There was a whole world out there and all she wanted was to work in that bar with him. Well, if that is what she wanted then that is what she deserved to have. He thought as he ate. "You truely long to be back there don't you?" He asked looking up at her.

Long to be back? Yeah, she really did. It wasn't much, but it was hers. "Yes," she admitted softly, then looked up into his eyes. "I really do appreciate you letting me stay with you, but as you said earlier, it's your home, and I'm really sorry that I messed it all up earlier," she said, looking back down at the table. "But Veronica is my home and... I do miss Matty," she continued softly, feeling a tightness in her chest.
"Excuse me," she said, rising to her feet and walking towards the door. She really needed some fresh air.

Mecca watched her leave and had the urge to throw his palte against the nearest wall. He refrained of course, he was in a public place and such behaviour was not dignified.
Throwing some money on the table he swept out of the teahouse, pulling his jacket on as he went. He stalked Covet all the way back to the shop, passing her to unlock the door and drag her inside. "Did I not clear that up?" He growled pinning her to the wall inside. "I told you, this is your home too now." He continued raking his fingers roughly into her hair. "Just not the shop, it's dangerous."
Why could she not be happy here as she was there.

Covet blinked as he suddenly appeared and unlocked the door. She frowned slightly as he grabbed her to pull her inside and pin her against the wall. She closed her eyes as his nails grazed her scalp and she had to swallow down the pounding of her heart at his sudden rough treatment. When her eyes opened tears were in them and she suddenly leaned forward to wrap her arms around him. Burying her face into his shoulder as the tears she had been holding back finally poured out and began to wrack her small body. She had been wanting to cry from the moment she had heard Matador's confession, but had not let herself. But she couldn't stop them any longer.
"I-I'm sorry M-Mecca," she cried. "I kn-know that but... it w-was my home f-for so l-long," she barely managed to get out between sobs.

Crying? She was crying on him? That was unexpected and hard to deal with, only adding to his frustration and his anger. Literally crushing her to him he tightened his hand in her hair trying to think of a way to dissolve his anger without hurting her badly. "Don't cry Covet. It doesn't suit you." He said through gritted teeth his eyes going to an old teapot on the mantle above the hearth.

She was trying. Really trying, but the tears wouldn't stop. Clutching his black coat in her hands she tried to make herself stop by taking deep breaths, but it was a little difficult with the way he was crushing her against himself.
"Why does it have to hurt so much?" she managed to get out as she began to slowly calm down.

"You are asking the wrong person." He said pushing her away from him and storming over to the fireplace. Grabbing the teapot he threw it across the room where it landed with a satisfying smash against the wall. That was slightly better. He thought taking a deep breath.
"I don't know why it hurts Covet. But I told you. You need to take that pain and convert it into strength." He walked back to her and lifted her chin up for her to look at him. "Don't cry." He half demanded.

Covet fell back against the wall when he shoved her and watched as he stormed over to the fireplace. Wiping the tears off of her cheeks she watched him throw the teapot. Flinching when it shattered, she turned her eyes back up to him when he returned to her. When he practically demanded she stopped crying she sniffed softly and pulled her chin away from his hand so she could brush her palms roughly over her cheeks.
"Why do you have to be so angry with me all the time?" she demanded, shoving him away from her so she could walk around him to go clean up the shattered pieces of teapot. "Can't you see that I'm trying? But I'm not you Mecca. I'm not as cold as you," she said angrily, kneeling down and picking up the big pieces first.

"What do you want from me Covet?" He shouted glaring at her hard. "So Matador has a girlfriend?" He grimaced in distaste at the word. "Does that really give you a right to be so angry? Did he ever make you feel like you had a chance?"
He knelt down and picked up a couple more pieces from the floor. "You come to my house and I do everything you ask. I make you forget, I give you a home, a job. I've told you I don't understand your emotions. When you cry ... I don't understand. I don't want to see you cry but I don't know how to stop you." He kicked the stool and stormed past her. "I'm going out, because I really need to hurt something and I don't want it to be you." He said glaring at her.
