I don't know if my bd believes in seating people because she dosen't want to hurt anyones feelings and she knows we will move regardless. So on the first day of band everyone walks into the bandroom (most of the time late from lollygagging in the hallway) and sits wherever they want.

Our school's policy on seating: Grab a chair as fast as you can, and put it where you want it. If you don't get a chair, it's your own fault, if you don't like where you're sitting, then get to class sooner.

well, our band is so small and informal that we don't even have set chairs! i mean, everyone knows who gets 1st and stuff, and we do have assigned seating, but not by chair.

We kind of do, kind of don't. We don't have much of an official chair system so seating is pretty much established on the first day. Section leaders (the unofficial, implied ones) sit at the end of the row and everyone else sits anywhere else but where you sit in the first month is where you're going to stay FOREVER! rolleyes I wonder if that made any sense... skylar elliott well, our band is so small and informal that we don't even have set chairs! i mean, everyone knows who gets 1st and stuff, and we do have assigned seating, but not by chair. My band is like that...

In our band we do have assinged seats and If you are doing something wrong that gets on our BD's nerves he will throw a shoe at you. Seriously. One kid acctually got hit one year. It was bad. Our seats depend on how well you can play. Flutes, which I play during concert season, are first row. The section leader or the oldest player is normally the section leader and first chair. The clarinets are also in the first row. The second row consists of more clarinets, bass clarinet and alto sax. The third row has trumpets, tuba, baritone, tenor sax, and trombone. The final row is just percution. During marching season our BD wants you to sit in your assigned seats but no body really does. During Concert season you have to try out to be in upperclass band (wind Enssemble) If you do not try out you are automatically placed in concert band aka Zoo band. lol It is a mess.

We didn't have set seats in high school persay... but we had set areas that we had to sit in... and then everyone would fight over who got what part... my section was really easy... i would get the parts first, pick out what i wanted and let the other three fight over what they wanted.. but hey, I WAS the b***h of the trombone section.... I could do that.... Now that's Joe.... it fits him... rofl and now, in college, we don't seem to have set places, we just sit where ever we want as long as it is in our section... or at least near it (i usually sit with the sousa player... females low brass players unite!!!) anyways.. that's about how it is.........

In my band you just have to sit with your instrument section. But you can sit anywhere within that section.

In the past, we didn't have assigned seating, but our BD wanted them this year, so we have them. For our band, the best in a section start in the middle, then expland from there. We also started Tryout's this year. I liked it better without assigned seating, 'cause we all got to switch around part's and play different things for each show. Now that we are assigned seats, we get stuck with a part. (Which is bad for me...I totally blew my chair tryouts, and got stuck at 6 chair out of 13 clarinet's. xP I hate second part, it is always so...inored.)

We don't until concert season. But aside from Monday mornings, we don't have inside rehearsals. If the director wants to fix something, he'll fix it outside. sweatdrop

we do have a certain seating place, but the BD doesnt really care in what position we play, just as long as it sounds good. i usually end up playing 1st when he assigned me last chair because im a girl. okay, the way it is is 4 guys, 2 girls. guess where the two girls are? AT THE END PLAYING 3rd!!!

Right now, since it's marching season, we don't even sit, much less have seating arrangements. When we played a bit of concert music, we just sat where we thought we should according to skill. Later, though, we'll audition for chairs...Because freshmen that barely made it into symphonic aren't supposed to have first parts when really good seniors that didn't make it into the wind symphony because there was no room get second parts... whee
