BassClarinet12 My band directer has no problem with us tapping our feet in fact he taught us to! In class we can do our whole foot but at concerts when we are wearing our fancy shoes we have to do our toe inside our shoe so it doesn't make a loud clunking sound. I don't think tapping your doot is for babies but maybe you should try the toe tap instead so you don't get in trouble! we're supposed to tap too, but we're told to juast tap our heels lightly.. though for the tuba section it's hard because most of us are right footed and we keep our tubas on our right knees (or I do..) but we learned (we took a whole day of class last year) to tap our left toes.. in the show choir concert tho, Mrs. B got really pissed because most of us wore clicky shoes so you could hear the music and our very distinct steps on the wooden stage.

Well our band director insists that you tap your foot. It's not baby-ish at all. Our band director taps hers too. ^^

tapping your toes helps, but tapping your foot is just annoying; everyone can see or hear it half the time, and if you're off it throws others off as well. stick to the toes, the whole foot is a bit excessive.

I personally tap my foot before the song starts to get the tempo into my head, then when the song starts, I stop. It works. sweatdrop

It always looks more impressive when a band doesn't tap their feet, but I'm FAR more impressed with a band that sounds good and taps their feet than a band that sounds craptacular and does not.
...
And yes, I tap my foot. Constantly. xd It's fairly slight, though.

I'm a percussionist, and my band director told me ever since the 6th grade, to tap my foot, course I never did because I have the tempo nailed shut in my head, I just need those first 4 beats (or two, or maybe three) to get it...
A trick I found to work... (I don't really use it but it's still cool) If you tap your foot, you tap rather loud because you're making sure you have the beat, (especially if the tempo is fast) if you try and lower the sound your going to lower the tempo automatically... it's natural, you can't really stop it... So a good trick to use is to (If your can) tap your foot, but switch off from toe to heel, that way your not rushed to hit your foot againist the ground, when you switch off between the two it is kinda like the speed you need is halved, this will not only make it easier to do, but since your not so rushed, your foot won't go as high, so it can't really be seen, AND since it won't go as high.. it won't make that loud of a noise.. It can't really be explained, you have to try for yourself, it works for some, and others... not....
As for tapping your TOES.... ewwwwww, I hate that because it always hurts my toes in a concert, with the "spiffy shoes" and all that, but eh, if you can and it doesn't bother you.. go for it.... razz stressed <- that is so cool....

Absolutely not! My band director MADE us tap our foot last year. But as time wore on, he wanted us to start tapping our toe inside our shoe, because the audience wasn't there to "hear a huge tapping storm". xd Yeah, so tap your toe inside your shoe. It works. 3nodding

My band director will actually beg us to tap our toe. Anything to stay in time.

If you have to rely on tapping to keep a beat all the time, that's not that great...I'm talking about when it keeps you from developing an internal sense of pulse. So moderate...<3
Our band director gets kinda pissed sometimes because one of the baritones taps really loudly...like you can hear it over quiet parts of the music. I'd get pissed too, if I were him.

i tap my toes sometimes. there's nothing wrong with tapping ur foot unless it's too loud or it's not at the right tempo. we were doing melodic dictation once and the guy beside me was tapping his foot and it was so off stressed but i couldn't say nething or kick him cus it might've looked like i was cheating

In percussion in my school we are supposted to. So whenever I play the piano I tap my foot to get used to it (I haven't quite started I just made the Perucussion audition.) And i'm playing a duet in piano and the other kid does Percussion also. Now he can't play the piano without taping his foot. I don't know why your teacher would not want you to tap your foot. That's just odd. neutral
