"Right this way," she replied, guiding the new girl off. She called back over her shoulder, "Charlotte, you can go ahead and take that break now. Twenty minutes."

A break, already? I just got here. Heck, anything better than being in a stuffy place like this, she thought sourly. "Thanks," she called to Laurel as she headed off with the new girl. Charlotte quickly headed out of the Library to get some fresh air.

((Heh, well... Charlotte is just trying to portray an image. And so far it is going fabulously. As long as her true self doesn't get in the way... stare ))

Laurel gave the new girl, Elspeth, the tour and then set her to shelving the books that she had cataloged earlier. "I'll be down in the workshop."
When she reached the basement, she made a bee-line for the closet, and shut herself inside, then she threw the breaker, and watched the secret door open.

Her twenty minutes were up. She went in and asked Elspeth where Laurel was, then headed off down the stairs after her. "Laurel?" She called, making a makeshift flashlight appear in her hand. She made the flashlight guide her way around the room easily. Now where was Laurel?

The door had a handle on the other side, so Laurel pulled it closed behind her as she stepped into the chamber.

Funny, Laurel wasn't there. Charlie glanced up the stairs to make sure the new girl wasn't around, before she created a blood hound that then sniffed out the area.
Find her for me, boy, she told the dog telepathically.
The dog scratched the closest door. Now why would anyone be in the closet? She set an illusion so that if Laurel was locked in there she wouldn't be able to see the bloodhound, but the dog was still present for Charlie's sake. Charlotte opened the door, "Laurel?" She called as she opened it.

The closet contained a variety of cleaning supplies - paper towels for the restrooms, soap, floor cleaner, carpet shampoo, feather dusters, mops, brooms, and on a bottom shelf at the back of the room, a plunger that looked (and smelled) like it hadn't been cleaned since the Bush administration - the first one.

This didn't make any sense. Where was she? "Where is she boy?" She questioned the dog, who was sniffing around in the closet. She was getting irritated, where was the Librarian, there was no other place in the basement. And the dog said she was in the closet, so where was see. "Laurel, you can come out of your hiding spot now?"

Laurel heard the voice calling her from the other side of the door - it was Charlotte! She was tempted to just open the door, but she didn't know if Charlotte could be trusted, or was a spy for the Union. She would have to misdirect her somehow. There was another way out of the chamber, an open passageway. Maybe she could get out, and back into the Library without being seen by either Charlotte or Elspeth. She headed quietly down the passageway, letting the Shadow Cloak grow to cover her in darkness.

The canine still sniffed around in the closet. This was hopeless, how could she not find Laurel? There was no place else to hide? She grumbled something to herself.
The illusion couldn't be malfunctioning, it was a real creature it would be able to sense Laurel, so why couldn't he find her?
"Laurel?" She said moving out of the closet, though leaving the door wide open, and looking around the basement again. Searching the place thoroughly.

Moving quickly but quietly down the passage, Laurel finally found what she needed - another door. She slipped through and found herself in the basement of a furniture store that was situated behind the Library, on the next street. Before long, she was at the delivery entrance. Luckily, no one was around. She retracted the Shadow Cloak, back into its disguised form, and slipped outside. She ran across the alley to the back of the Library and let herself in.
