"Um. I've been good, I think." Elle wasn't sure how to explain how she'd been. She really hadn't been anything. Elle had been spending long nights hidden away under the three metre high blackberry thorns in her hollowed out area, with magic books.
"But I adopted a kid? I can't believe it still. But there she was, a baby, sitting there... and apparently I was supposed to raise her. I don't seem to need to do much, she's already a child."

"Her name's Lirael, she's with mum right now, and she's very quiet. She has a weird little familiar thing that she talks to but she's always reading books. I don't know much about her yet." Elle shrugged. She really did like Lirael, as much as she tried to sound like she didn't know.

A shrug. Maybe. Maybe not. Minds are tricky things. She took the bowl of now-cold popcorn from on top of the coffee table and held it out. Aren't you hungry? You haven't touched the popcorn.

She laughed then, and shook her head. "You probably have nothing that I could drink."

Luna had never intentionally probed a mind before, but she was doing it now. First reaching out with her own consciousness to touch Elle's own, as if to knock or ask permission. And then going gently a little further, and a little further. Not disturbing anything around what she was looking for, not delving into deep, private memories...
It wasn't that Luna didn't trust her. But Luna needed to know that her best friend didn't hurt anyone.

Wow, that was really weird. It was ticklish... but it was her head. Her mind.
Elle blinked at Luna. Was Luna having... a epileptic mind fit? And was Elle feeling it? It felt like Luna's mind. Like Luna had sent out some kind of tenticle of Lunamind into Ellemind and was going 'poke...poke'.
At least, that was how she'd pictured it.
Near the front of all of Elle's thoughts, as it had been since she could ever remember, was memories of bags of blood. Like hospital bags, but with straws and everything. She'd had one earlier that day.

Luna slowly closed her eyes and turned her head slightly, the aforementioned "tentacle" withdrawing.

Well, the tickling had stopped. Elle blinked a few more times then laughed. "No, it's okay. If I could do that tentacle thing, I'd do it too if someone thought about drinking blood. What a weird thing to think!"
