Yeah, I've read Tattered Cloth's GARDEN translation. I've never translated a full song before, so I decided to try GARDEN because I love the lyrics and I could check it with another translation to see how close I come to getting it right. ^^;

I am pretty sure the real lyrics have much more to them than the PV subtitles, but I just wanted to know where you got the romanji lyrics. Did you write those out yourself?

No, I looked HARD for them xd

I can't find kanji lyrics... well, I haven't tried looking yet. I think maybe it'll be easier to translate it more accurately with the kanji

Oh most definitely! If I were to set out on a tranlating binge, I would go for the kanji lyrics and translate from those. The translation will probably almost always be more accurate, in my opinion. Which, as we all know, is IMPORTANT when trying to break into the mind of our favorite psycho-singer.

[off topic]Of course, I'd have no hope of translating from kanji because I don't know much Japanese... My school needs so badly to have Japanese for a language course... [/off topic]

good luck with garden xd

translations work like this sometimes:
first someone translate the writing literally, then a professional writer makes it sound... prettier xd

Because pretty words almost always prevail. But to me, in the case of translating Kyo's lyricisms, it's almost hindering. I feel like I might miss double-meanings and such, you know?

yeah, I've tried translating some songs, but I just know I did them wrong gonk

I'll brb, I have to do some English homework

you can literally translate it, but just b/c it's a literal translation doesn't mean it is right... you just get a general idea of what is said

like i was watching a filipino movie and the literal translation was 'there is a pain in my head' or 'my head hurts' but they were trying to convey that someone was annoying them

yeah, I guess I didn't really mean literal... just a very dull, uninteresting translation, and then someone takes it and makes it sound nicer.

I've seen a lot of funny translations in movies too
Like in a translation of this Russian movie... someone uses some very "vulgar language" but in the translation they used very mild words xd

Mimiruu
I've seen a garden translation on some other sites already.

I can't find one with sangeki no yoru ANYWWHERE gonk

the english I posted was subtitles from the PV, I don't think it's the real lyrics... is it? eek I think the real lyrics have more in them.
Um...*raises arm meekly* If you want, I can try translating the lyrics you posted for you ^_^" Seeing as I'm 1/2 Japanese and billingual (sp?) I'm at an advantage... I don't mean to sound big-headed or anything though X_x You can see an example of my translating skills by looking at the page before when I translated "RED...[em]" sweatdrop

*reads* I love how I kinda spawned a conversation about translating things...All because I was curious about Sangeki no Yoru. xd

Thank you though for the subtitles from the PV..A friend and I had the hardest time making those out, even with the handy pause button. heart
I'm sure there's more to it than those subs, but that's ok.

THE IIID EMPIRE
(Lyrics Kyo) (Music Dir en grey)

Brainwash makes us sing a sorrowful song.
People in waves, they sing along.
For the country to prosper.
It's the country's song
It's a bomb that's just covered up.

Freedom Love Riot Power
whores and prostitutes City of illicit sales
Politics Poverty Dictatorship Nuclear.
Is there such thing as freedom inside us?

Other than Victory the result is destruction
Being Supervised + the result equals despair.
For the country to prosper.
For the country to prosper.
It's the country's song.
It's TI that's just covered up.

SPARK SUBLIMINAL VISION
L&P Love and peace is vanished
It's a city of destruction, and it's called Freedom.

Beautiful Fireworks light the night as children smile with joy.

Cheering voices all around. Execute Firearm
Penetrates inside ONE TWO in the cranium ONE TWO THREE
Sounds of firearm swirl like the whirlwind as it strikes the ears.
The prison guard jumps and screams in laughter.

People's emotions swirl in a whirlwind. Rebellion Felony
Shoot away ONE TWO Children ONE TWO THREE
Cleanse away. People scream
Awakening Awakening Awakening Awakening

I always thought it was funny that this part rhymed in the translation:

Brainwash makes us sing a sorrowful song.
People in waves, they sing along.
