Wrinkling his nose a bit at the other, in slight annoyance, at the laugh, he huffed. It wasn't often he gave other's compliments, unless it was on their body. So the teasing wasn't what he had expected.

He canted his head, and rested back against his palms, head rolling back, while his eyes concealed. "Doubting it," he mumbled lowly, tone getting rougher than before, "He isn't one for...seductive strangers," he smirked, "nor do I think you're so desperate as to try and bribe a -child- to come near you, I assume."

A slight chuckle to wrap off the burst of amusement and he'd convinced himself that there wasn't a problem and that any moments of tension, uncomfortableness he ought to dismiss on grounds that he'd misinterpreted the first one anyway. Therefore... He shouldn't assume anything. (Unfortunately for Alex this tended not to work both ways, for while he would work to forget any assumptions of wrong-ness this in itself would require an assumption of right-ness.)

"He prefers the chase?" he teased further, relaxing into his seat much the same as he had before when talking to Fae. Then, a slight whiff of air at the less kosher suggestion. Yes... clearly a sense of humor here... Though it took him a moment to answer that, thinking on... well... the fact that... no, he wasn't desperate. He wasn't even... very interested, really. So a slightly befuddled look entered his eyes as he smiled, "I don't think I am either."

He shifted, and laid back, legs still crossed, nevertheless. He yawned, and glanced towards his son..who had wandered to something new, this time. He closed his eyes, listening to the other's movements and words..breathing, heartbeat--..words. Yes.

"Mmm probably," he teased, and shifted so his tail wasn't so crushed beneath his form. "Good," he replied, and licked his lips, turning his head so his cheek rested to the cool grass, lips parting slightly. Too much to think about...too many thoughts rushing through his head. A sigh left him.

If he thought to hard about this moment, it was probably going to lose all signficance. Therefore... it would just have to suffice in itself, without implication and analysis of what it meant to befriend someone young so quickly, what it meant to meet anyone at any given time in space, that it was strange to bother after problems - but who better to tell than a stranger?

"Do you want to talk?" as opposed to 'are you all right' - because that's obviously enough a 'no'. He'd gotten enough hints, picked up enough implications to know rather than assume that all wasn't at the best it could be (as opposed to how it 'should' be - how could anything ever 'should'?). Asking after Silver's well-being would be both pointless and a little stupid. All he had to offer was an ear, a response, something different - but a welcome, nontheless. For he could think of few worse things than awkward silence with a stranger.

Eyes lifted a bit to the other, and gave him a questioning look, as well. Why did he care? no, he wouldn't say this. He didn't -know- Alex, and the best he could connect with this male was that his son seemed to have an attachment to him.

He frowned a bit, and sat up straight, running his fingers into his platinum locks...seemingly debating over the 'talk'. He parted his lips, then cut himself off from speaking. He smiled gently, a rare gesture, "It's..all right," he murmured, his mind not even connecting to the fact that Alex knew that he was upset/bothered/etc. He waved him off gently, "No need to burden you." Silver finally added, nodding a bit to assure his words--assure them to not only Alex, but himself, as well.

The gaze returned was simple and open; however closed off he might be about personal space his tendency was towards honesty and that meant a certain clarity to his speech and mannerisms, and that the subjects he cared to conceal were simply not talked about rather than exaggerated or minimized. In this offer he intended simplicity.

Crossing his legs to sit back and one hand drifting to perform the habit of pushing hair behind an ear as he tilted his head with a bemused smile, "It's not a burden to a stranger," he explained himself, "If you need to talk, but can't... well, I can listen at the very least. And it won't matter to anyone else."

He arched a brow, "I'll keep the offer in mind," he murmured, and brought a hand up to massage his own scalp..trying to get rid of a headache. "Ah, yes, stranger..I'd rather not -remain- a stranger, since my son will be seeing you every now and then." He admitted, though he had a slight fear of Ozy getting angry at this fact.

Rolling his eyes at the inner musing, he clenched his jaw, "So.." He began, trying to change the subject, "..Tell me a bit about yourself?" He questioned, though he would also offer to do the same, if he wanted.

Lips pursed in amusement and acknowledgement, a small nod of agreement to fulfill the alliterative triplet. "Granted," a small lift of shoulders that turned into a roll that stopped and eased, forming itself to the back of the bench. It would be a little more than awkward to continue any sort of friendship with Fae without ever bothering to know at least one parent.

A definite change in the conversation here, a broach of topic that was... connected, yes, but not of the prior moment. "There hasn't been much to know of late," he decided after a pause, "I'm... unemployed," perhaps not the best information to be sharing, "Thinking about re-entering college... and..."

"Totally flummoxed when it comes to self-introduction," a certain 'unicorn' drawled, appearing on the opposite side of the bench to lean on the back with crossed arms square between Alex and Silver.

He was of an athletic build with wild black hair and... count 'em - one, two, three piercing blue eyes, one square in the middle of his forehead where a horn ought to be. They weren't quite as piercing as the glaringly loud hawaiian shirt he'd donned, perhaps, but--dear lord, no. That shirt was painful. "Sheez, Alex - 'I'm unemployed'? Worst. Pick-up line. Ever. Who's this?"

Silver seemed interested in the other's words, listening to him...probably a bit too much. Too caught up to even notice the unicorn appear. He parted his lips to respond--but was cut off by the other's words, tensing, starting slightly at the sudden ********--" He growled a bit, before glancing back to where his son was playing..he was still there. Relief, then a bit of anger flooded him...but that soon dropped when he noted that Alex knew the man. He frowned...pick-up line? It's not like they were hitting on eachother.

Okay, well, he had hit on him. But only to an extent.

"...I'm Silver," he responded for Alex, tone slightly irritated, but calming. Dear god.

Though he'd come to the park in hopes of avoiding all current crises - which seemed to revolve quite a bit around his suddenly appearing friend just here - Alex couldn't find it in himself to be exactly irritated. Not yet, at least, not for this. Other things that Kingsley had gotten up to lately? Oh, they definitely pushed the limit. But it wasn't as if he'd said 'I want to be alone'.

His lips drew into an apologetic line as he glanced at Silver, then to the playground and Fae. Oh dear... they hadn't been paying attention to the world, had they? Not the wisest course of action when it came to babysitting - as he'd so often learned when it came, again, to Kingsley. Speaking of which... "I'm not a homewrecker," he said simply in his defense to the 'unicorn' - a joke that might be missed by all parties present, but that was the way of his humor most days.

Silver? ...Not so bad as some of the other things you ran into around here - and hell if he could complain considering his parents. But it wasn't the name that bothered him so much as the Stranger Talking To My Chronically Stupid Naive Friend Alert. Ignoring Alex's nonsensical comment his eyes remained squarely on the coon. "Cody Kingsley," he identified himself in turn, "What's up, Sil?"

Ah, Fae knew better than to run off aimlessly. But, still, Silver was half tempted to go get his child, and keep him around...he sighed, and shrugged a bit to Alex, though turned it to a roll of his shoulders. He smirked at the answer, and half wished he was such a thing...but he didn't speak his mind.

Frowning, he looked up towards Cody, and wrinkled his nose, "Nothing, really," he purred, and willed a small grin, relaxing, "What brings you here, Kingsley?" He automatically went to calling him by his last name. Damn Japanese upbringing, truly.

Silver had caught it, what a relief. He always felt minorly disappointed in himself when his humor failed to catch. Something about inside jokes... Smiling briefly in return, the bird turned and tilted his head in his friend's direction, neck arching slightly as his head came to rest on the back of the bench.

"The weather," Cody responded bluntly, "Or the Easter Bunny," he went on in a sarcastic and deadpan sort of humor, "Possibly a complicated sitcom worthy omen involving both - take your pick." It wasn't that he was instinctively mistrustful of strangers, just that he'd been particularly ornery and overprotective of late, needing to exercise some sort of influence somewhere in his life and finding the only road to assured affirmation in that he still possessed the ability to piss people off, preferably people he didn't care about. Theoretically if Alex was going to get out ad about and make new friends he was all for it - but Alex also had a disturbing history of total lack of judgement.

The coon gave him a strange look, and moved to stand up, slowly, fingers lifting to touch the collar about his neck, in which seemed to be a nervous habit.

He felt as if he was being judged by this man.

He didn't like that.

Sighing a bit, he tucked his hands into his pockets, and narrowed his flaxen irises. "..I see," he murmured, and canted his head, "Well, obviously, you've missed your opening reason to be about...the bunny-b***h has already toddled off." He mumbled lowly, warning the other. he didn't mind the company, but he was kicking into protective mode..and was also slightly offended. He didn't know that Alex had a bad judgement of people, but he wasn't a bad person. It made him uncomfortable that the vibes from Kingsley were..judging, and untrusting.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 19, 2006 9:02 pm

The 'unicorn's' eyebrows raised as the coon stood. Well didn't this look like a confrontation in the brewing. It didn't occur to him that he might be the sole reason for the agitation, only that since the agitation existed at all he'd probably made a good move in showing up.

At least Silver had a sense of humor. 'Bunny-b***h' indeed. That was almost worth writing down. Still, Marks had a sense of humor. Didn't mean much in his book, even if it made talking easier. "So sad," Cody said with mock disappointment, standing to his own full height and arms still crossed, "He owes me money."

Then, gaze turning outwardly scrutinizing to take in the collar, the silver hair - to presume that this was a fellow member of his new species - "So that's my 'nothing doing', what's yours?"

...Did it always have to end like this? It'd barely even begun! Oh Kingsley and his bad habits! Not that they'd even been habits a year ago--but he'd let this year slide so very much, let things just get worse without paying mind to them, convinced that as ever Kingsley was action and didn't need action taken for or against him. And at the moment? It so often felt as if those actions required in his favor really did need to act against him in some way.

But he wasn't about to keep his friend on a leash, either. How was that going to help? "Silver's here with his kid," Alex proffered at something of a mumble, frowning in what he hoped was a chastising manner at his friend.

He frowned a bit more, before the other answered for him. He nodded, showing that what he spoke was true...and Fae wasn't too far off, having paused in his play to look over at the newcomer with curious eyes. Though, Silver hadn't called him over, so he continued on playing..following after a random squirrel that had wandered onto the playground.

At the look he got from the unicorn, he pressed his hands into his pockets, and canted his head curiously at him. He didn't look exactly..innocent, adorned in jeans, a collar, and a black t-shirt, for once. He smiled, weakly, and quite fakely, towards Kingsley..but that was about all he could muster up.
