Maou Klyamoor People think since I am an atheist I am like uber depressed all the time and they mistake my mourning for my father (who died recently) as the absence of God. Me: *Looks sad* Them: That's what happens when you don't believe in God Oh and this happened during school. Friend: Hey these guys over there wanted you to read this. *Hands me piece of paper* Paper: What's the point of living if there is no point at all. Me: Uh... wtf is this about? Friend: I don't know. They though since you were atheist you could figure it out. Me: *Storms over to the people* Listen, just cause God doesn't exist doesn't mean I find no reason to live! I'm still here am I not? What is your reason to live? Them: God/Jesus. Me: You live for God/Jesus? Them: Yeah. Me: What do they want you to do? Them:... Me: So stfu. stare OOh, I can't stand people like that (so mean)! Who were those people anyway? question Did you know them? Because it would be twice as rude if they were just random people.

Lock The Cards My grandmother thinks atheists can't be good people, because they don't believe in god xD how retarded? xDD I've heard that before. My step mom syas that christians do good things from their devotion to god, but since athiests have no god, they only do good things for themselves and are therefore selfish. If that isn't bullshit between two buns with ketchup mustard and onion, I don't know what is.

She said about the same thing. I said I had nice atheist friends, and she said they weren't "true" atheists.

My dad's opinion on the matter: NO DAUGHTER OF MINE IS AN ATHEIST! When I made sure he understood that yes, indeed, I was, he tried to blame my ex-b/f saying that he "turned" me into an atheist, which would have been a funny trick for a catholic to do...
My dad stated, "Atheists have no morals! THEY IS EVIL!" I was stunned, then slowly explained to him that unlike him, I didn't need some hooboojooboo in the sky to scare me into being a decent person. I was a good person for the sake of being good. I treated others well because I wanted others to learn from my example. I did point out that I was disturbed by the rather violent and hateful behavior I saw from "good christians" such as himself... He was livid, but there wasn't much else he could say. I was right. I did also give him the last little jab of, "I don't recall Jesus saying anywhere that thou shalt be a judgemental a*****e."

O.o Parents should be supportive, not demanding and disrespectful... you don't see us atheists teasing others about their religion... ninja (all the time) Seriously, it's crap that people think atheists are evil. Most of us are really great people. All my friends know im an atheist and are great about handling it. So are my parents. (although some of my friends don't get along with other friends of mine because of different religions sweatdrop ) I wish that more people could understand us better. We give them a chance and don't complain. A lot of people think Im a goody 2shoes... until i tell them i am an atheist. That's a real shocker for them. All i hear is 'Atheists are EVIL.' talk2hand which is so not right. Good for you standing up for your beliefs, too! whee 3nodding

MightyHikaru Eternalnight666 2. Some know-it-all teenager who pretends to hate religion, but celebrates Christmas because s/he is a greedy hypocrite. blaugh hah yeah the christmas thing... well i guess i am i greedy hypocrat but believe you me I need my yearly presents. It would be hard to live without. And since Christmas was made up from the winter soulstice, I decided to make up a new name for christmas "THe you give me s**t, I'll give you s**t DAY" Woo, I've never thought about christmas like that. Oh well, everybody knows christmas is all about gifts anyway. Jesus' birthday... ha! Here's the atheist stereotype I hate most. When they think atheism means satanism. They think that you don't believe in god, just in the devil... Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle all the way... I had a Mormon "friend" who thought Satanist and atheist had the same definition. He also told me I was in a "stupid religion". hypocrite stare

Atheism is inherently negative... negative (i.e. lacking) god-belief. But atheistic philosophies can be quite interesting, indeed. People who think atheism is bad are goddies without a clue.

[.caustic.] I've never really had any situations with this personally. Other than one or two responses to finding out I was atheist that made it seem that they were surprised...I could kind of tell I didn't fit whatever stereotype they had in mind, but they didn't say anything directly. Just a sorta 'Really? You are?' kind of thing. Most people I've known don't care, and I even live in a quite conservative place. *shrugs* I have heard people talking about church and state stuff, and part of their logic was tied up in the idea that society needs religion or it would be lawless and completely immoral. Yes, the same thing goes with me about that. One person found out that I was an atheist and she just said "You are?" But she is a different type of christian than the ones who live out near me. The ones who live near me, who are fundamentalists (people who believe that the world is 6000 years old) if they found out I was an atheist, would probably try to burn me on a cross rofl / try to convert me daily, every second I am near them eek / subject me to their brainwashing movies whenever they can (i'm not lieing about the last two eek ).

I hang out in a Christian group and they know I'm agnostic/atheist. Nothing happened so far. A few attempts at conversion but I'm still good.

About two months ago, I was the defending party in a athiest bashing meeting... below is an exerpt from my Live Journal that tells of my survival during the ordeal. It is long... Quote: Then their was the long-asss drawn-out christian/atheist debate. Not really much of a debate, just athiest bashing. Again, I was not allowed to put one word in. I did happen to get out, ?I don't really care what you think. I respect your views, and you should respect mine." Then I was told not to be surprised when I get struck down. God this and god that. I tried to ask why I have to believe in christianity.... somewhere I must have got lost because they asked why I kept bringing up christianity (mind you, they are all christian). I said that if I was to believe in any other god I would be just as blasphemis as if I didn't believe in any god at all... if there really is this god. They said it doesn't matter because basically everyone believes in the same god. I hate to say it, but when I was christian I did research and even christians don't all believe in the same god in the same way. They can't all be right. So I asked how they knew they were right, but the only reply was it doesn't matter. By the end of the night I was then being called stupid, not literally. The real phrase was that my brain was the size of a pea and i only use half that. Good christians they are... any witness they had was lost long before it got that far. I as an atheist know more about their god then they do. Tghey just believe becasue they are afraid of what may happen if they don't. Going about it that way is still the wrong way... if there is a god. I would say I acted way more mature then all 4 of them... but that was just my point of view. They asked me if I celebrate christmas... I said no, I son't celebrate that holiday that was originally pagan. They asked if I give or recieve gifts... I said yes, because it is a tradition. BAM! Right there I was a hypicrite because christmas is a religious tradtion. I follow it because it's a family tradition and I respect my families traditions. I was also asked if I loved McDonalds when i was younger. Of course I did... I was a kid. Somehow that was supposed to tie in with me being a hypocrite. I have no idea how. Out of all this Steve-Bashing... I wasn't the one that was getting angry. The two black girls were seriously pissed off and offended that I didn't agree with them. They asked me to remind them how old I was many times... 21 I would say... and they said I was young and immature yet, I would grow out of it. I fished out a bit of info... I was more active in my religious life when i was christian then they are now. i fasted, spent nights at church, went to bible study everyweek, participated in youth group, rallies, and revivals. i even went to church twice on sundays sometimes. I read almost the whole bible, not to mentyion written works by christian authors. I did looked into different forms of christianity. I RESEARCHED WHAT I BELIEVED. Them? They just believe. I thought the athiest was the one that bashed the christian? That's the story I always heard. What went wrong tonight? Here's a post, a day later: Quote: I asked what McDonalds had to do with Christianity (see previous post). The relation was supposed to be that i loved going to McDonalds because of Ronald... which I hated him. The guy said that was supposed to somehow represent why i should go to church or something like that. When I mentioned that it was apples to oranges and asked exactly how they related... he got kinda pissed. Somewhere during the discussion, it got odd. One guy told me he doesn't have to read the bible or go to church or anything along those lines to know how to live and have belief in god. How does he know what rules god wants him to follow, and how he is suppoed to live. The guy said he has never read the enitre bible. They mentioned the Left Behind series. When I said I read every book but the last one, the 19 year old guy looked at me like I was lying. He said his teacher hasn't read all of them and he has a degree and such. I don't know about his teacher, but that's pretty damn slow then. I have read all but the last one. I was insulted again. They said I can't grasp the concept of christianity because I am too think-headed, ignorant, and *I have forgotten the other one*. I was told I am unhappy in my life because I don't have religion in my life. Why is it then that i was as unhappy or more unhappy when I was in church? He said the happiest people he has ever seen were in church and he has never been in church. I let that one go. There are a few grammar errors, I know, please try to bare through it. I think it's also funny how some christians believe that atheists are devil worshippers... I call my self an atehist, but there is another word for what I am *I have forgotten*. Basically, in a way, I believe I am my own god. I control my actions, my choices and my path. I believe I was told it is existentialism.
